Brad Delp was one of the greatest rock vocalists who ever lived. 🎤He was a tortured soul who unfortunately took his own life in 2007. He has been sorely missed ever since.
Brad played in a cover band Beatle Juice
They played Beatles songs all night
at Mosley's on the Charles in Dedham Ma
I went up to him and asked if he would play Across the Unverise
he looked to the heavens and said I love Across the Unverise with a smile,
next song was up and the world moved on
Also loved his work in RTZ.
He was the greatest rock vocalist to ever live
@@31carrier So many talk about Brad's voice, but as you experienced, his smile and heart were even better. What a beautiful, gentle, humble, and caring soul. He was my college roommate's neighbor when he lived in Londonderry, I got to know him a little after 3rd Stage when RTZ was starting to pull together and would run into him around New England over the years. I last saw him about a year after his accident and not long before he left us. I do miss him.
@@scottjswenson it was awesome moment in my life i know it sound like BS but it is something I will always remember you are so right my friend
Boston is a great American rock band who had their biggest success in the 70's-80's. They had a lot of great songs such as "Foreplay/Long Time", "Peace Of Mind", "Rock & Roll Band", "Don't Look Back", "A Man I'll Never Be", "Feelin' Satisfied", Smokin'", "We're Ready", "Amanda", "Hitch A Ride", "Hollyann", "Cool The Engines" etc.
Yeah, of your suggestions I'd narrow it down to three for a follow-up.
"Foreplay / Longtime" - Overall composition and musicianship
"Amanda" - If she's diggin the harmonies here, "Amanda" takes it up notch.
"Peace of Mind" - We know she loves a good groovy vibe, lol... nice bluesy guitar section, but up-beat.
They're all great songs, but those are the three I think would hit her the hardest.
66 yo guy here and they were fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!
All of these are amazing songs, heck just about everything from Boston is amazing.
Thank you for mentioning Hollyann. By far the most perpetually underrated song from Third Stage - and their entire catalog.
All their great songs were on the debut after that kind of copied that formula
Legend has it that he's holding that note to this very day
Hard to believe that song is almost 50 years old. I always said they were ahead of their time.
Crazy part is I remember buying that album new at our local record store on the town square {same square as the Dukes of Hazzard} ✌💖☮
@@SquirminHermanthe1eyedGermanyeah , orange dodge challenger v 8 haul ass ,
Ahead of and right on time 👍
Boston is forever
50 years. Man where has the time go. We old, music is younger than we are. Lol
Brad Delp was a magnificent singer. Too bad he always felt alone. RIP, Brad! Always will be remembered.
Also RIP Sib Hashian, whose daughter is Mrs. Dwayne Johnson btw.
@@brewswillis9783 I did not know that.
If this is your first experience with Boston, you have truly missed out! One of the GREATEST bands of the 80s without any doubt!
RIP Brad, one of the absolute greatest rock vocalists of all-time.
Every track on the debut is a banger.
Its kind of weird how good it is......
AMEN TO THAT BROTHER. . i so agree with you on this. Fantastic debut. 💯💯💯💯💯
It might still hold the record for high selling LP debut ever, so good
I feel sorry for those of you that did not grow up with these amazing bands. It is hard for me to find anything as uplifting in music today. The 70's and 80's were definitely a great time to be alive for music.
@@johnlongstreth1525
I was born 1970. Grew up in the 80s. . Thank God. The 70s. And. 80s. . Best Rock music ever. I went to ALOT of heavy metal concerts in the 80s. . Good times. . Good memories. . 💯😎🎸🤘😎🎸🤘
This version criminally cut a whole verse and chorus out of that magnificent song.
I also immediately noticed that. This is a truncated version bummer 8:07

This was obviously a video thing, but classic rock stations have been doing this with classic songs for a decade or so where I live. They carve the songs to pieces, solos slashed in half, verses missing, it’s awful.
Everyone I know of who listens to 70's and 80's rock and roll say they grew up in the wrong era. I was fortunate enough to live through it and attend just about every band of that era's concert to see them live. I don't think modern music has the same soul as it did back then but maybe its just me.
Their first album is incredible. Definitely listen to Foreplay/Longtime!
Best selling debut album for 11 years.... EVERY song got radio play, not many albums can boast that.
I think this song is legit the happiest song ever written, never fails to make me smile 😊
Growing up in the sixties and seventies, and uni in the early eighties was the best.
I was immersed in the best music that was ever going to be. Every year, I went to concerts that are now considered legendary. I’ve seen sabbath, ozzy, skynyrd and the eagles. zz top. srv in austin. so many others. Proposed to my bride on the way home from a Scorpions concert in Saint Petersburg, Florida.
I think I love your reactions more than most other on UA-cam because you have this fresh zest and energy and it makes me feel like I did when I was hearing this stuff or seeing it on stage for the first time.
Quite possibly the greatest debut in rock history! Every single song got substantial radio play! Not a bad track on it! Brad Dell’s voice is everything! So underrated and under appreciated!
Best selling debut album for 11 years.... Still #2
Fun Fact- Brad Delp did a vocal backer with the guitar after the line "slipped away." If you listen to the isolated vocal track you'll hear it. Brad Delp's voice is so powerful and beautiful. The band's synchronization on all fronts is what all bands need to aspire to. Who else LOVED playing this song on Guitar Hero 1?
The mighty Sib Hashian on drums. He was Duane The Rock Johnson's father in law and sadly passed away while performing on playing drums several years back. Rest in peace, Sib and Brad.
The drummer is Dwayne The Rock Johnson's father in law.
Sib Hashisn
React to by BOSTON
"FOREPLAY / LONG TIME"
"SMOKIN"
"PEACE OF MIND"
This whole song was Brad Delp flexing on everyone.
Brad Delp's voice will always be legendary in Rock.
You may not know this but the riff to this song inspired one of the most well known songs Smells Like Teen Spirits.
Somewhere in Heaven? Brad Delps still holding that last note!
Possibly the greatest song of all time, my only regret is never seeing them perform live.
If your going down the Boston rabbit hole, I suggest, Boston- "Foreplay/Longtime" as your next iconic song by them!
Totally agree!!! Boston were amazing - up there with RUSH!
*you're
My single biggest regret in music is never seeing this band live.
Those of us who were born in the 60s, and spent our teenage years and early 20s in the 70s and 80s had no idea how lucky we were to grow up with the music/bands that we did.
As per invitation to leave songs to review:
tasmin archer, "sleeping satellite" (powerful, amazing production quality)
skrillex, "ragga bomb", ft Ragga Twins (VERY different!)
W.a.s.p, "Miss you", emotional, incredibly powerful.
Pink Floyd, "Great Gig in the Sky", famous for having no words, but all the vocals!
I can imagine this conversation in heaven..."Nope, those aren't angels you hear singing, that's Brad Delp."
You have only scratched the surface..!! Boston is one of only a handful of bands that literally NEVER released a bad song..!! The songs were also mixed and mastered in their own studio..!! It's hard to believe I grew up listening to this..!! It was a great era..!! Simple living with a high quality of life..!! I would time travel back in a heartbeat if I could..!! You would have loved it..!!
If someone ever ask you how do you define rock and roll? Play this song
Guitarist and founder Tom Scholz, graduate of MIT also invented guitar effects processors called Rockman. Mixed and engineered this LP in his basement and passed it off as actual studio recordings to the label. He is the only original member left in the group that tours to this day.~Terry
RIP Brad Delp, one of the greatest rock vocalists ever. Incidentally this song has won numerous polls for best rock song of all time and the story of how Tom Scholz basically created the entire album by himself (except for the vocals) in his basement is legendary.
Also, this is '70s rock at its finest. This album was released in 1976 and yes, they were from Boston.
Sib Hashian and another guy did the drums on that album as well.
Boston’s self titled debut album is one of the best rock albums ever recorded, every song is a banger, so you can pick any track at random for a reaction and you won’t be disappointed.
This song was written in opposition to the American war in Costa Rica in the 70s. It made a powerful statement.
Back in the day this song was on the radio like once every half hour. Awesome opening when the guitar comes in.
This is one of if not the greatest rock songs in history..
6:37 "That went by so fast!" Sadly, most people react to this video, which edits out an entire verse of the song.
It's criminal that Brad Delp isn't mentioned every time someone makes a list of the greatest vocalists in Rock history.
The album was recorded by Tom Scholz in a basement studio he built. FWIW, in this song, Delp did all the vocals, Tom Scholz wrote and played all of the instruments except the drums which were played by Sib Hashian. That's the lineup for the entire album with the exception of "Rock and Roll Band", where Jim Masdea played drums. Once the album took off and they needed to tour, they added Barry Goudreau (guitar) and Fran Sheehan (bass) for the stage shows. This video is a stage performance synched to a cut version of the album track.
This album, their self-titled debut, probably saved rock and roll.
The secret ingredient is the clap. Boston is one of my favorite bands I'm still listening since teen in 80's.
Aileen you DEFINITELY need to listen and react to the whole ENTIRE debut "Boston" album! EVERY song is a banger and NO songs get skipped! These guys are so AWESOME!
Greatest debut album ever! There's not 1 bad song on it! When he hits those high notes I still get goose bumps.
Best selling debut album for 11 years.... EVERY song got radio play, not many albums can boast that.
Boston's first album is probably the best single album ever made. Every song is fire. It is one of those albums you bring with you to a deserted isle for the rest of your life.
Back when singers could actually sing in tune with no artificial help. More like this please.
Late here to the comment party so sorry if this is a repeat. You spoke of “the bass player” and “the guitar player”. For this album the “band” was Tom Scholz playing and recording everything in his home studio. Brad was the vocalist.
Tom is an electrical engineer and when he didn’t succumb to the record label pressuring him to release more music before it was ready, he started Scholz R&D with his flagship product, The Rockman so you could have that Boston Sound for your guitar. Many a 80s guitar player had that little box (listen to Def Leppard’s Pour Some Sugar on Me as an example).
As others have said, that first album is a masterpiece, every song is a hit. No other debut album comes close in the scope of its excellence.
I looked out this morning and the sun was gone
Turned on some music to start my day
I lost myself in a familiar song
I closed my eyes and I slipped away
It's more than a feeling (more than a feeling)
When I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling)
I begin dreaming (more than a feeling)
Till I see Marianne walk away
I see my Marianne walkin' away
So many people have come and gone
Their faces fade as the years go by
Yet I still recall as I wander on
As clear as the sun in the summer sky
It's more than a feeling (more than a feeling)
When I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling)
I begin dreaming (more than a feeling)
Till I see Marianne walk away
I see my Marianne walkin' away
When I'm tired and thinking cold
I hide in my music, forget the day
And dream of a girl I used to know
I closed my eyes and she slipped away
She slipped away
It's more than a feeling (more than a feeling)
When I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling)
I begin dreaming (more than a feeling)
Till I see Marianne walk away
Boston "Smokin" will get you rockin.
You really can’t go wrong with any of their debut album songs. I have a special affection for “Hitch A Ride”.
The debut album by Boston was recorded entirely by Tom Scholz who played all the instruments, with Brad Delp singing. When they had to go on tour Tom then hired the musicians to fill out the rest of the band
great reaction aileen... over 47 years ago (i.e. september 19, 1976) boston debut self titled album was released. the stunning title track "more than a feeling" took five years for the musical genius tom scholz to complete while working his day job as an engineer for polaroid. the arrangement and all the creative musical instruments were performed by scholz in his studio except for the drums which were developed by jim masdea and played by sib hashian. the lyrics are based on losing someone close and how music allows one to connect to memories from the past. all vocals (lead and backup) where provided by the late brad delp. the album became one of the biggest success stories of the 1970s and still considered one of the best rock albums ever... since the music was entirely created in studio, tom actually put a band together afterwards in order to go on tour. crazy what effect one person's dream can have so many others through music. enjoy and have a good week 😎
Tom was also a genius with a masters degree in electrical engineering. He created many of his own effect pedals and built his entire studio that he recorded Boston I on
there was more true musicianship in that band than in ALL bands out there today
You enjoyed this and wanted more. Well, there is more - the whole song. This video is a live performance edited to the studio audio to make a MTV video, and it leaves out a verse and more.
Every song on Boston's first album was a hit and still they all get airplay on the Classic Rock format - just keep going.
Yes, the bass on Boston songs is a little different because Tom Scholz is a lead guitarist playing the bass also. In fact, he plays all the instruments you hear except drums as well as writing most all of the songs.
Brad Delp did the vocals with an incredible range, and he performed all the vocals including the harmonies and backing vocals.
Other classic rock bands to check out: Styx, Foreigner, and Bad Company.
BTW, if you do Styx's "Come Sail Away" do the studio audio (or re-mastered GH) or a live performance from 1983 or 1996, and NOT the Official Video as it is also a cut-down edited version.
You just put this album on and listen from beginning to end. Every song is "wow!" with a sound we had never heard the likes of before. Easily among the top rock albums of all time.
Scholz is an MIT-trained engineer who designed and built his own recording studio in an apartment basement in the early 1970
This is my most favorite song of all time. You need to hear "A man I'll never be: Boston
One of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time! I had the pleasure of seeing them live in the late 1970s and early 1980s at Redrocks Amphitheater in Colorado! They were truly amazing!!! Thank you for the reaction video, Aileen. I always enjoy your commentary.
You must listen to all of Boston's albums. Read how they came to be. The bassist on every song smokes and the whole group rips every song. Enjoy the ride
Arena Rock, Boston, Chicago, Europe, Asia(never realized how many countries back then), Journey, and the rest, called Arena Rock because they filled stadiums, 150,000 seats, and they still had lines out the door.
Something About You and Peace of Mind, both outstanding Boston songs.
The riff to 'Don't Look Back' has been living rent free in my head for over four decades. That's the power of melody.
This was More Than a Feeling.
Aileen, listen to the isolated vocal track, its available here on UA-cam, and remember that this was made WAY WAY before autotune and the like. Boston is amazing. Glad you liked it :)
This is the short radio version. For some reason the wise record people thought people can't handle hearing a song more than 3 minutes.
Fun note, Lauren, the daughter of late drummer Sib Hashian is married Dwayne Johnson.
I'm so glad I was in the 70's & 80's music eras because they are just still the best music there ever was or will be. The "hair" band days were the best. Explore "Take it to the limit" the Eagles with Randy Meisner singing lead, it's the best song ever. "Lonesome Loser" OR "The Night Owl" by Little River Band. "Stay the night" by Ben Orr from the Cars. another "Roller" by April Wine. are some of my suggestions for ya. one last super cool song "Try" by Blue Rodeo. I could go on and on cause there's so many great songs. listening to the radio for hours on end. spending lots of money on music!
Off their debut album, arguably one of the best debut rock album ever..every song is amazing
OMG Brad's voice is incredible!! His range and control is outta this world!! The music is awesome but just listen to that voice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved you appricated this!!
Their whole first album is an absolute joy. React your way through it!
Almost 10 million copies of that album sold in the 70's!
Any album of theirs is fun and great to listen to
RIP Brad Delp. Such a great singer..
The 4 next songs , you must react from Boston are these "I need your love", "Amanda" "Don't look back", & "Livin' for you"
Next: foreplay/longtime and then Rock and Roll Band!
An all-time rock classic. Immortal.
"More Than A Feeling is the world's greatest song."
-- Carl Brutananadilewski (ATHF)
One of my favorite songs and videos! Love it!
I’m not much of a reaction guy but love your content Aileen and find myself coming back to your videos all the time. Keep up the good work.
Alot of big Bands from the 1970's are not here anymore or there is 1 or maybe 2 still alive today pretty sad for them but they're Music stays currently thanks UA-cam.
Yep. Your great reaction pretty much sums it up for everyone's first time to hear this exceptional song. Boston left a mark.
This song is on every rock compilation album there is , its iconic
Brad Delp was the voice of my generation.
This song will live on into infinity.
Boston’s debut album was totally engineered and recorded at Tom Scholtz’s basement. He wrote the entire album, played the majority of the instruments. He then invited Brad Delp to sing the lead and added the vocal track. The record company listened to his master tapes, mistaking them for demos. They told Scholtz to bring the group to the studio and record the album. Scholtz tricked them by using his masters to be recorded on the studio album without actually performing in the studio.
It’s still one of the best selling debut album of all time.
I have goosebumps while watching and listening to this. The perfect song.
What a voice. Amazing RIP Brad Delp🙏🙏❤️
One of the best debut albums of all time. Every song is a banger!
It's a fantastic debut album, Aileen. You wouldn't feel you went wrong playing any of the tracks from it. Have a great day!
Best selling debut album for 11 years.... EVERY song got radio play, not many albums can boast that.
This song was blasting on every car stereo in the 70's. Anybody that was young then that was into rock remembers those days, the best fucking days of our lives.
It went by fast because this was the shortened version. They cut out the second verse completely. They went from the first verse, to the second chorus, then guitar solo, final chorus and fade out. But there's another verse and chorus in the original.
This band was so great they named a city after them!
This is the radio version. There is another verse to this song
Yep. “So many people have come and gone. Their faces fade as the years go by….” Critical verse
Boston, "Don't Look Back" My personal favorite from Boston.
"Hitch a Ride" the ultimate 70s summer rock anthem. Top down, riding through the New England countryside skipping school with my friends, 8-track blasting - the best of times!!
Welcome to the 70s and 80s. We were living😎
Greatest debut album for an American band. Saw them 7 times. Incredible
There are VERY few bands that will be celebrated till end of time, Boston is one of them.
One of the top debut albums in history!
There is no one with a voice as amazing as him. This whole debut album is incredible
Glad you did this reaction to one of the best songs of that era. I've yet to hear anyone compare to Brad's voice. Here are my recommendations to songs a lot of us who have commented below, know oh so well. Slaughter "Fly To The Angels" + Cinderella "Don't Know What You Got (Til It's Gone)" & Skid Row "I Remember You". Hope you enjoy a taste of the 80's Ballads.
This is the best rock song of all time! Brad Delp is the best rock singer of all time! Boston rules, and this song brings me back to my teenage years like no other. OK, you have me hooked. Keep it up!
The bass player, Fran Sheehan, was the only band member with a formal education in music.
Boston was a band with a timeless sound.
Ladies and Gentlemen: The one and only Brad Delp on vocals.
