Brad Delp was one of the greatest rock vocalists who ever lived. 🎤He was a tortured soul who unfortunately took his own life in 2007. He has been sorely missed ever since.
Brad played in a cover band Beatle Juice They played Beatles songs all night at Mosley's on the Charles in Dedham Ma I went up to him and asked if he would play Across the Unverise he looked to the heavens and said I love Across the Unverise with a smile, next song was up and the world moved on
@@31carrier So many talk about Brad's voice, but as you experienced, his smile and heart were even better. What a beautiful, gentle, humble, and caring soul. He was my college roommate's neighbor when he lived in Londonderry, I got to know him a little after 3rd Stage when RTZ was starting to pull together and would run into him around New England over the years. I last saw him about a year after his accident and not long before he left us. I do miss him.
Boston is a great American rock band who had their biggest success in the 70's-80's. They had a lot of great songs such as "Foreplay/Long Time", "Peace Of Mind", "Rock & Roll Band", "Don't Look Back", "A Man I'll Never Be", "Feelin' Satisfied", Smokin'", "We're Ready", "Amanda", "Hitch A Ride", "Hollyann", "Cool The Engines" etc.
Yeah, of your suggestions I'd narrow it down to three for a follow-up. "Foreplay / Longtime" - Overall composition and musicianship "Amanda" - If she's diggin the harmonies here, "Amanda" takes it up notch. "Peace of Mind" - We know she loves a good groovy vibe, lol... nice bluesy guitar section, but up-beat. They're all great songs, but those are the three I think would hit her the hardest.
Quite possibly the greatest debut in rock history! Every single song got substantial radio play! Not a bad track on it! Brad Delp’s voice is everything! So underrated and under appreciated!
RIP Brad Delp, one of the greatest rock vocalists ever. Incidentally this song has won numerous polls for best rock song of all time and the story of how Tom Scholz basically created the entire album by himself (except for the vocals) in his basement is legendary. Also, this is '70s rock at its finest. This album was released in 1976 and yes, they were from Boston.
The pipes on this man are incredible. I’ve always thought he is the best male rock vocalist of all time. His voice, those blue eyes. So sad he’s gone RIP Brad
I feel sorry for those of you that did not grow up with these amazing bands. It is hard for me to find anything as uplifting in music today. The 70's and 80's were definitely a great time to be alive for music.

great reaction aileen... over 47 years ago (i.e. september 19, 1976) boston debut self titled album was released. the stunning title track "more than a feeling" took five years for the musical genius tom scholz to complete while working his day job as an engineer for polaroid. the arrangement and all the creative musical instruments were performed by scholz in his studio except for the drums which were developed by jim masdea and played by sib hashian. the lyrics are based on losing someone close and how music allows one to connect to memories from the past. all vocals (lead and backup) where provided by the late brad delp. the album became one of the biggest success stories of the 1970s and still considered one of the best rock albums ever... since the music was entirely created in studio, tom actually put a band together afterwards in order to go on tour. crazy what effect one person's dream can have so many others through music. enjoy and have a good week 😎
Tom was also a genius with a masters degree in electrical engineering. He created many of his own effect pedals and built his entire studio that he recorded Boston I on
This album held the record as the largest selling debut album by any artist for roughly 14 years until it was eclipsed by Guns N Roses' "Appetite for Destruction"
Not many can come close to a perfect debut album like Boston did. Definitely one of the the top debuts ever, The Cars also had a great debut album. When I think of elite first albums, I think of these two.

From Boston's debut album, which is a masterpiece. My favorite Boston song is "Peace of Mind". The lead singer is Brad Delp, who sadly took his own life in 2007.

@Lookusa That is some fiction for sure. As the other poster pointed out as documented in the liner notes of every copy of this record that was ever made, Sib played drums on all songs except for one and Jim Masdea played drums on that tune. Barry plays on three songs. Fran plays on two songs, and Brad plays acoustic guitar on one song on the record. Tom was forced to tell the truth in sworn legal documents involved in the Goodreu vs Scholz lawsuit Tom most certainly did not mix this record in his home studio. Toms scully 12 track tape machine and console could not begin to handle the mixing of this record. This record was mixed at Westlake Studios. and this is all well documented as fact. All of Brads vocals were recorded in big name studios in LA by Boylan and this is a well documented fact. The band as pictured on the back of this record existed before this record was finished and before any tour was even planned. The band as pictured on the back of the record recorded three songs at The Record Plant LA with Boylan. The band started out being called Mothers Milk, but that name was changed mid recording process at the recommendation of Boylan and Dewey. and Tom had to use what was left of that Mothers milk to do a live show before the record company would sign Tom and Brad. Brad had been singing with Tom on live gigs and other demos years before this record was released. Barry introduced Tom to Brad back in 1969/1970 about the time when Tom auditioned to play keyboards in Barry's band.
This first Boston album is widely regarded to be one of the best debut albums in rock music history. You will probably get a lot of suggestions to work your way through it in sequence. Because this is literally the first song on their first album and this whole album is fire. And you will hear so much variety in it, and you will come to recognize their specific sound, and there is so much good bass guitar playing on some of these songs, and everybody was wonderful. I got to see them as a youngster in 77 and 78, and they were absolutely fantastic shows both times. I have seen several reactors do this after playing this first song, and it is fascinating to watch them fall in love with Boston.
When I was in high school I live and worked in a town North of Boston for a landscaper. On Fridays, we used to cut the lawn next to the drummer of Boston, Sib Hashian (R.I.P.)… We would plan so we were eating lunch on the curb on those sunny and warm Fridays. The band would rehearse at his home and we would just sit and listen… Thanks for the warm reminder of this very sentimental memory. Fun reaction and review 👊🏻 Oh, and how about four octave Brad Delp (R.I.P.)
"Don't Look Back", "Foreplay/Longtime", "Amanda", and "A Man I'll Never Be" are my favorites from Boston. "Don't Look Back" is a speeding ticket song LOL. You'll know what I mean when you hear it. Great reaction as always.
You just put this album on and listen from beginning to end. Every song is "wow!" with a sound we had never heard the likes of before. Easily among the top rock albums of all time.
Bostons ALL ABOUT souring melodies , in the vocals as well as the guitars , and also memorable riffs that just carry you along , thats why theyre TRULY one of the greats ;)
That is the radio version of the song. The album version has another verse before the solo. Every song on the first two albums are all great songs. I would recommend Foreplay/Long Time, Piece of mind, and feeling satisfied as the next songs to react to.
I've been around and played bands as a guitarist, 64 years and I've never heard a voice as powerful and prolonged as Brad Delp's.. I understand this was mixed in a basement by one of the bands members who was into that stuff..But the kicker is, they could deliver as good playing LIVE !!! RIP Brad , your missed.
Wasn't just mixed. it was recorded in Tom Sholtz's studio he built in his apartment Basement. Sholtz played everything except the drums on this record. Rest of the band was hired so they could tour. Sholtz has a Master's degree in Engineering from MIT. Built a hugely successful company with the Rockman and Powersoak. When he wanted a particular sound, he invented a device to produce the sound. He also was an excellent Hammond organ player.
@@tomthemusicandoutdoorsguy3376 It is very well documented that this record was mixed at Westlake Studios by Boylan, Warren Dewey and Tom with assistance from Steve Hodge. In addition there are 5 musicians playing instrument tracks in this record other than Tom and Tom was forced to admit this in legal documents involved in the law suit between Tom and Barry
Boston had some great music. It always warms my heart to see a younger generation discover the music I grew up with. Boston had some real rockers, but my favorite song of theirs was a ballad: "Amanda." It's well worth a listen. Loved your reaction, young lady.
Aileen I must admit extreme pride on my part for I saw Boston Live on their first world tour! Brad Delp's voice live was so crazy good! The world lost and incredible singer when he passed... Being a 16 year old during this time was so damn cool! The MUSIC was so damn GOOD! I LOVE how this music grabs your heart, you are someone special...
Aileen- I have to thank you. Your reaction to this was exactly mine... in 1976, when I first heard Boston LIVE. The emotion carried me to new heights and appreciation of what was possible in the day. And your emotional connection renewed mine and filled me with gratitude. So again, thank you and I'll continue to watch. PS... I wore that Concert Shirt until it fell off my body. Oh, yea... ;-)
I looked out this morning and the sun was gone Turned on some music to start my day I lost myself in a familiar song I closed my eyes and I slipped away It's more than a feeling (more than a feeling) When I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling) I begin dreaming (more than a feeling) Till I see Marianne walk away I see my Marianne walkin' away So many people have come and gone Their faces fade as the years go by Yet I still recall as I wander on As clear as the sun in the summer sky It's more than a feeling (more than a feeling) When I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling) I begin dreaming (more than a feeling) Till I see Marianne walk away I see my Marianne walkin' away When I'm tired and thinking cold I hide in my music, forget the day And dream of a girl I used to know I closed my eyes and she slipped away She slipped away It's more than a feeling (more than a feeling) When I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling) I begin dreaming (more than a feeling) Till I see Marianne walk away
I love watching you react. You are so real and genuine. You have very clear, intelligent and descriptive narrative and yet you really get into the emotion and feel of a song. That’s what I really love! That’s what I’m here for. You help me relive that first time I heard this song!
@RickF940 Impossible to pick top 3, but assuming its rock only, thus excluding the obvious Sinatra, off the top of my head, these guys I would all rank over Delp: Justin Hayward>Moody Blues Greg Lake>King Crimson, ELP John Wetton>Crimson, UK, Asia Steve Walsh>Kansas (70s) David Gilmour>Pink Floyd Phil Collins>Genesis David Pack>Ambrosia Steve Winwood>Traffic etc Donald Fagen>Steely Dan Burton Cummings>Guess Who Enrico Rosenbaum>Gypsy I'm also excluding female singers such as Linda Ronstadt, Karen Carpenter etc
Look, I love you (in a non stalkerish, don't write poems about you kind of way) but I find it hard to believe that this is the first time you've ever heard this song.
I was lucky enough to see Boston live after their first album. They were so tight live, they sounded so perfect, almost a note for note performance sounding like the album, amazing !
I love watching people reacting to Boston for the first time, because I get to hear Boston for the first time through them and that never gets old. Thank you for doing this and I hope there’s more to come.❤❤
Hi Aileen! I really appreciate your reviews of these fantastic bands of yesteryear. As Steve Perry says, I enjoy "rediscovering" these songs with you. When you get emotional, I do as well. I know you are true to your feelings and reactions, making your videos great. I look forward to more of your reaction videos.
Growing up in the sixties and seventies, and uni in the early eighties was the best. I was immersed in the best music that was ever going to be. Every year, I went to concerts that are now considered legendary. I’ve seen sabbath, ozzy, skynyrd and the eagles. zz top. srv in austin. so many others. Proposed to my bride on the way home from a Scorpions concert in Saint Petersburg, Florida. I think I love your reactions more than most other on UA-cam because you have this fresh zest and energy and it makes me feel like I did when I was hearing this stuff or seeing it on stage for the first time.
My father introduced me to boston at a very very young age I used to think some of the music sounded like a spaceship!!! They are one of my top 5 favorite bands ever My father passed away 3 days after 9/11 in the same way brad delp did later and i have a tattoo on my arm that is the spaceship/guitar on the first album cover , but with nyc in the bubble A tribute to my father and to new york The words "its been such a long time" on it too Boston has been a regular part of my listening for more than 40 years now and will be til the day i die Ive had the pleasure of seeing them live many times BOSTON FOREVER!!!! BRAD FOREVER MY DAD , JPD, FOREVER ❤ So so very glad you and your wonderful smile reacted to this incredible song
Boston's first album is probably the best single album ever made. Every song is fire. It is one of those albums you bring with you to a deserted isle for the rest of your life.
Boston was among several groups that came out pretty close to each other. Boston, Kansas, Chicago that had a wide variety of songs that were ballads but could rock as well!
As a staple on AOR radio for the better part of the last 40-plus years it’s hard to believe that anyone hasn’t heard this niblet of awesome before. That said, because I’ve been listening to AOR radio for 40-plus years it’s an absolutely pleasure to re-discover this (and other) songs through the lens of those who haven’t. Thanks for your hot take on this and all of the classics you’ve reviewed - it gets me emotional.
Boston has so many hits. I recommend checking out every single song on their debut album. Yes, literally every song on that album received massive airplay on the radio. It's the best debut album of all time.

Your reactions are always so wonderful. It’s evident what a true lover of all music you are.
This is the radio version. There is another verse to this song
Yep. “So many people have come and gone. Their faces fade as the years go by….” Critical verse
😎I believe this song after hearing it for 40 years now is probably the Best Rock Song Ever!
I grew up South of Boston. Boston, Aerosmith, The Cars, J.Geils, all Boston bands.. Pretty good teenage years!!
So glad to see this music not being forgotten as well as all the great music of the past on UA-cam reactions.
RIP Brad Delp. Such a great singer..
You just put this album on and listen from beginning to end. Every song is "wow!" with a sound we had never heard the likes of before. Easily among the top rock albums of all time.
If your going down the Boston rabbit hole, I suggest, Boston- "Foreplay/Longtime" as your next iconic song by them!
Totally agree!!! Boston were amazing - up there with RUSH!
*you're
RIP Brad. Your voice was an instrument in itself. Boston is gone but not forgotten
Boston really is something special.
Wow! Brings me back to middle school. This always played on the radio and I burned out my vinyl hearing it sooo many times.
Boston was a band with a timeless sound.
I’m not much of a reaction guy but love your content Aileen and find myself coming back to your videos all the time. Keep up the good work.
Aileen pick any Song on the debut album every single song was a hit! The Album name is Boston 🥰🎸
Many (including me) consider this in the top 10 rock and roll debut albums of all time
@@KennethSavage-nn2vv and I will agree with you!!!
@@KennethSavage-nn2vv No one should be arguing with this. It just IS.
@@donkeydarko77 agree 👍🏻
Their whole first album is an absolute joy. React your way through it!
Great road to travel down , Boston's First album was full of Hits
Best selling debut album for 11 years.... EVERY song got radio play, not many albums can boast that.
Best. Song. EVER! Listen to it with headphones at max volume to fully appreciate this song.
Been listening to this for 48 years and it NEVER gets old
RIP Brad Delp. That whole album is amazing. Also check out "Don't look Back" and "A Man I'll never Be". Keep rocking Girl!
Boston had some great music. It always warms my heart to see a younger generation discover the music I grew up with. Boston had some real rockers, but my favorite song of theirs was a ballad: "Amanda." It's well worth a listen. Loved your reaction, young lady.
Classic rock at its finest 🤘🏻🎸🔥
I'm now 66 years old and I tell you it's more than a feeling when I hear this old song they used to play. It was an unreal time to grow up.
Brad Delp was very special. A masterpiece of a vocalist.
Back in the day this song was on the radio like once every half hour. Awesome opening when the guitar comes in.
Truly, this is one of the greatest songs of all time!
Brad Delp and Tom Scholz...the dynamic duo
Aileen- I have to thank you. Your reaction to this was exactly mine... in 1976, when I first heard Boston LIVE. The emotion carried me to new heights and appreciation of what was possible in the day. And your emotional connection renewed mine and filled me with gratitude. So again, thank you and I'll continue to watch. PS... I wore that Concert Shirt until it fell off my body. Oh, yea... ;-)
I looked out this morning and the sun was gone
Turned on some music to start my day
I lost myself in a familiar song
I closed my eyes and I slipped away
It's more than a feeling (more than a feeling)
When I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling)
I begin dreaming (more than a feeling)
Till I see Marianne walk away
I see my Marianne walkin' away
So many people have come and gone
Their faces fade as the years go by
Yet I still recall as I wander on
As clear as the sun in the summer sky
It's more than a feeling (more than a feeling)
When I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling)
I begin dreaming (more than a feeling)
Till I see Marianne walk away
I see my Marianne walkin' away
When I'm tired and thinking cold
I hide in my music, forget the day
And dream of a girl I used to know
I closed my eyes and she slipped away
She slipped away
It's more than a feeling (more than a feeling)
When I hear that old song they used to play (more than a feeling)
I begin dreaming (more than a feeling)
Till I see Marianne walk away
She skipped over the second verse
That note reached beyond moon
Aileen I got (I man I'll never be) from Boston thanks
Love the fact you tuned in on the claps. They added so much to the dynamics of this song.
Best selling debut album of all time when it was released.
Best selling debut album for 11 years.... still #2.
EVERY song got radio play, not many albums can boast that.
I love watching you react. You are so real and genuine. You have very clear, intelligent and descriptive narrative and yet you really get into the emotion and feel of a song. That’s what I really love! That’s what I’m here for. You help me relive that first time I heard this song!
You will never forget your first time getting Delped.
Indeed. Hearing Boston for the first time was love at first hear. Brad grabbed me with his gorgeous tone and never let go.
Yep. Your great reaction pretty much sums it up for everyone's first time to hear this exceptional song. Boston left a mark.
The drummer is Dwayne The Rock Johnson's father in law.
Sib Hashisn
This song was all over the radio how could you not have heard it
100% Brad is in my opinion one of the 3 greatest voices in rock history.
😮🤪
@@kbrewski1 u agree or disagree?
@@RickF940
Not even close. He had a good voice, but no where near one of the top 3.
@@kbrewski1 so what is your top 3?
Mine is Steve Perry, Robert Plant, Brad
@RickF940
Impossible to pick top 3, but assuming its rock only, thus excluding the obvious Sinatra, off the top of my head, these guys I would all rank over Delp:
Justin Hayward>Moody Blues
Greg Lake>King Crimson, ELP
John Wetton>Crimson, UK, Asia
Steve Walsh>Kansas (70s)
David Gilmour>Pink Floyd
Phil Collins>Genesis
David Pack>Ambrosia
Steve Winwood>Traffic etc
Donald Fagen>Steely Dan
Burton Cummings>Guess Who
Enrico Rosenbaum>Gypsy
I'm also excluding female singers such as Linda Ronstadt, Karen Carpenter etc
i enjoy watching your reactions, and love that you are diving into some classic music
Look, I love you (in a non stalkerish, don't write poems about you kind of way) but I find it hard to believe that this is the first time you've ever heard this song.
Agreed, but, maybe I could pen a few poetic lines if someone forced me to. lol.✌🏼
I was lucky enough to see Boston live after their first album. They were so tight live, they sounded so perfect, almost a note for note performance sounding like the album, amazing !
I love watching people reacting to Boston for the first time, because I get to hear Boston for the first time through them and that never gets old. Thank you for doing this and I hope there’s more to come.❤❤
I'm old enough to have loved this song, this album, this band from the day the album came out. It makes me so happy to see how happy it made you.
My father introduced me to boston at a very very young age
I used to think some of the music sounded like a spaceship!!!
They are one of my top 5 favorite bands ever
My father passed away 3 days after 9/11 in the same way brad delp did later and i have a tattoo on my arm that is the spaceship/guitar on the first album cover , but with nyc in the bubble
A tribute to my father and to new york
The words "its been such a long time" on it too
Boston has been a regular part of my listening for more than 40 years now and will be til the day i die
Ive had the pleasure of seeing them live many times
BOSTON FOREVER!!!!
BRAD FOREVER
MY DAD , JPD, FOREVER
❤
So so very glad you and your wonderful smile reacted to this incredible song
Off their debut album, arguably one of the best debut rock album ever..every song is amazing
To watch the unadulterated, unbridled joy on your face reacting to this song/video is well worth the price of admission. :)
I love seeing people realize how epic Boston is
Boston has so many hits. I recommend checking out every single song on their debut album. Yes, literally every song on that album received massive airplay on the radio. It's the best debut album of all time.
Great reaction as always, Aileen. You are a musical empath; your emotions come out so freely with each song.
Love your reactions. Keep them coming Aileen!
Thank you!! 😁
Every song on this their debut album is undeniably a hit
Love your reactions! My Boston favorite is HITCH A RIDE. The layered guitar work is AMAZING. ROCK & ROLL BAND is another great tune about them on the rise...love it.
I can't listen to this song without tears. This album came out when I was in high school, And it brings back so many memories of lost years. Can't think back to those days without crying my eyes out.
You've only scratched the surface of an epic catalog of music from these guys!
Great job as always! Your channel has to be one of the best AND fastest growing on UA-cam! Keep growing Aileen!
The extra 3 note bit in the last prechorus is one of my favourite details in any song ever. So simple yet so perfect
