Andy & Alex I first heard this song about 1980 round at a friends house... his folks had (looking back now) the greatest record collection ever! Boston, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Queen, The Doors, The Rolling Stones and so many more! It is without doubt a timeless song and one that is a go too for me when I hit a bipolar episode.! Great stuff lads. Hope you’re both well 👍🏻💚
Andy & Alex Well boys....now you know why it’s my go-to-feel-good song.😁 Discuss that note! Hardly no one can hit it. Brad Delp had a high roof to his mouth!!!
Double tracked hard panned 12 string intro... double tracked hard panned solos... this song was played literally twice an hour on FM radio... Check out Rick Beato's review of this from an engineering perspective.. ua-cam.com/video/ynFNt4tgBJ0/v-deo.html
The best way to hear this song is being 16 years old, driving your first car, packed with your friends, and driving down the highway feeling badass, pretending to be an adult....and thanking God that you're not.
I am 71 yrs. old. I was working in my Brother-in-laws Custom Cabinet Mfg. business. Small business, a dozen employees. “More than a feeling” came in the FM radio station we piped in the shop. It hit me …. Like this is the greatest song l have ever heard! I was 24 years old. I am very happy to have grown up in an era of some of the most beautiful music ever recorded and performed ! Some of the mist Brilliant musicians and writers ever lived !
This album is displayed in my lounge right now. If Brad Delp lived in SA we would be buddies. When we harmonize Boston songs it is as if he is there. We cannot forget him or get over him. Truly the greatest voice and the NICEST Guy in Rock n Roll. ❤
As a 53 year old male, I love that you guys are giving the music I grew up with a listen 👍🏻 I feel that I’m fortunate to have grown up in the best age of music
I'm 56, and couldn't agree more. There is no point in time that had that volume of great music. Before OR after. I used to think I was biased b/c that's when I was young and it's the music I grew up with, but I'm convinced it just WAS the best time for creative bands.
Being 53 too, I wrongly assumed that great music would always be around and continue to evolve. I was so very wrong. Nothing like this is happening today! Great shows as well that you could actually afford to go to. I took that time for granted.
@foreigner fan do you realize that the whole first album was done by one person! He had to hire people to go on tour. You cannot accept the greatness that is this song?
True, he does brag quite a bit, but you still have to admit that the whole first album was exceptional. Their first 2 albums were good and 3rd stage was good as well, after that, meh!
@@Ldunk : Dead on!!!!! Tom Scholz was a M.I.T. graduate. Another person of his era who was a great music innovator and hardly recognized was Todd Rundgren.
Summer 1976 I’m lying in my bed late at night with the radio on and for the first time I heard More Than a Feeling. I was so blown away that when the DJ announced the the band and song title, I got out of bed and wrote it down so I wouldn’t forget! Now in 2019 I play bass in “Don’t Look Back - The Boston Experience” which is a touring tribute act. I literally get goose bumps on stage when performing those songs!
This is a Stop Whatever I'm Doing And Rock Out song for sure. This song was a summer in grade school, on the transistor and car radio, my older cousins, boys and girls, all with long hair, Coppertone and baby oil... This song is transporting. It is perfection. Love your reaction video(s.)
People who didn't live it and the times, don't recall that at the time this came out, disco literally stood on the precipice of world domination. Their album, at least as I recall it, was among the first rallying cries that rock wasn't quite dead just yet.
this is the song that got me into Rock I was 14 in 76...they toured with Sammy Hagger in 77..I saw them at MSG in NYC ..remember it like it was yesterday
Delp's voice was pure and real. Overstacked and produced, but no it was real. RIP. This Scholz guy was a tech-geek and a multi-talented musician. 'Nuff said.
That is so true!!!! Delp's voice is awesome!!! I'm 54 & I was lucky - grew up with Black Sabbath, The Beatles, Joe Cocker and Soul. I got in to RUSH at 12, Metallica, Anthrax, Motorhead and MegaDeath at 13!!! Da La Soul & 2 Live Crew, blew my little mind!!! I kinda hate pop music, some of it is good.... but mostly it's whatever.... I must say that Hozier's track "Too Sweet" is outstanding!!! That song is a classic!!!
A note about this song, and the whole album, regarding how "flawless" it sounds. 1) It is flawless. 2) This album was a demo done by Tom Schloz in the basement of his apartment complex. The record company wanted him to re-record it and he refused and went with the demo. Keep in mind, this was in the 70's decades before the digital tools of today. This was all analog tape. A truly classic and perfect song..
Aannndddd... He very successfully marketed that processor as the Rockman, a very successful product line unto today, eventually sold off to Dunlop. In the beginning sales helped keep their heads above water during the long drawn out court battle with their record label from Sholtz’s slow turn around for a second album due to his annal perfectionism... which also drove Brad and the gang nuts! There’s so much to the Boston story...
@@shoeflystudios5903 I was a sophomore in college when the Boston debut album came out, and I listen to it often still. People don't realize that not only did the group create the music, but Sholz actually invented all the technology to make the sound. Mind-blowing. The Boston sound did not exist before Sholz invented it.
Brad Delp, sang ALL the vocals! That is why the harmonies, the clarity, the vibrato, the perfect timing is so perfect! This band is my top 3 bands of ALL time, along with the Moody Blues & the Eagles. I am 71 years old. I have enjoyed some of the greatest music ever written! It’s a thrill to view y’all’s reactions… genuine ! Thank, guys!
Welcome to me headbanging in 2020 :) No but seriously, school must have been great back in the day! I graduated In 2017 and everyone listened to rap music and it was pretty lame
thatguy onxbox back then we had certain places to hang out. Someone always had a great stereo system that could be cranked up. And we had 8 tracks. Then cassettes. And of course albums. Great times!
I won't be around in 40 years, but you will be. And you'll still be listening to this song and singing along no matter who hears you. Because it's Boston. And you don't care. This I guarantee.
@@ExploreNC You seemingly know absolutely nothing about true music, nor can appreciate this on any level. When you can and do, return back to this thread and you'll understand the hype of why others understand this as genius (ala Scholz) and a timeless musical masterpiece.
My father taught me music from the 60s to the 90s when I was a child and since then I couldn't be more grateful. The feelings that listening to the great songs that were in those years brought me freed me from depression, I became a Heavy Metal maniac and started playing the bass. I instantly became obsessed with the voice of my idols such as Rob Halford from Judas Priest or the energetic way of playing of Steve Harris from Iron Maiden!! I'm only 22 years old and I'll surely carry my good music with me until the day I'm no longer in this world.
When you hear us younger boomers complaining about how music today is crap, this is why. We were so fortunate to experience the music between 1967-1989
Which is exactly what people 40 years from now will say about today's music. What you fail to understand is that this is a neverending, repeating cycle.
@@ghsf1234 Not necessarily. There are golden ages that begin and end -- some long like the Italian Renaissance, some short like the French New Wave for cinema. It may be that the 20th century was a similar time period for popular music: rock, R&B, jazz, country, pop, avant-garde, etc -- at least for the English-speaking world. I hope not but who knows?
Storm Rising I still say this about music from Boston. While some bands and songs sound dated and have lost their appeal, Boston songs still sound fresh as the day they were first released. Not sure why they sound so fresh, but guessing that part of it is in the mixing and part is in the outstanding vocal talents.
@@shananagans5 Ahem...might I remind the kindly old gentleman of the wisdom of the age? "Too old to Rock n Roll, too young to care about it!" 😁 Rock steady dude!
Plus Boston had a unique sound, you knew it was them when they were on the radio Today everything sounds the same...auto-tune, auto-temo...songs are written like Henry Ford assembly line Very little creativity and bad lyrics. It's gone down hill big time
I'm 56 years old, and I was very happy when my 14 year old son, making a selection to listen in the car, included this song among them, commenting that it's one of the best of his selection. I think he and his brothers are on the good way ...
I am 58 and saw them when I was 16 Bic lighter in hand screaming for multiple encores 3!!!! Such a complicated song on how it was put together. Check out UA-cam video What makes this song great Ep. 17 This is my go to song when I just want to get lost and play some great air guitar !!!! Loved your comment what the XYZ generations will never get to experience or feel
Right? Some songs are simply perfect as they were recorded. Two other examples are Comfortably Numb and Gimme Shelter. There’s nothing that could be done to it to make it better.
being 74 i get a kick and enjoyment out of all the young reactors on youtube that are hearing songs and bands that i just took for granted because i grew up listening to all of them. i guess i was really blessed, keep up the great music, thanks.💚⚒
I am 57 years old. I owned this album when I was a teenager. My reaction was the same as yours when I first heard it. So wonderful to watch your smiles! Awesome
I owned it as well, played it until it was almost worn out, then gave the album to my daughter who also loved it, lol. I bought it again years ago on CD and now have it on digital. I will have this album with me in some form until the day I die.
No way to overhype it. Boston is one of the best gifts to the music lovers ear to ever grace the airwaves. So far beyond their time. Love this reaction.
I come from a large family that all grew up in the 70s and 80s and I can tell you without a doubt that we grew up listening to the greatest music of all time...
Agreed!!! Yes we did have the best music EVER!!!! We were blessed with great lyrics they actually meant something to people, not the nonsense of today.
It warms my heart (seriously) to see the next generation appreciating bands like Boston. Two thumbs WAY up! No one makes music like this anymore. Thank God it's timeless.
@@angela-vi2hh Totally experiencing that as I read your comments. I am at the age where this nostalgia for my youth has me an emotional wreck as I keep reliving/remembering all the great times with friends and loved ones who are gone.
nah theres a few mediocres on there, Id say 4 really good ones & the rest are ok imo. But everybody has their own openion. But theres a reason there wasn't more hits off the album.
Guys, this is the ultimate Boston tune. Not just the production, but the song itself. This tune has gotten me through so many times in my life. This is my all-time favorite tune.
If you are old enough, “More than a Feeling” is actually a mental time machine. I transport back to a body so young and strong, to a mind so clear and full of hopes and dreams, and to a heart that is not yet jaded.
I was 16 living in Melbourne Australia when this came out and it got played to death on all the radio stations, to the extent that I almost got sick of it. But hey what a great song, timeless.
@@AussieBill128 I’ve noticed that songs that got overplayed back in the day, and we all got tired of them, somehow they can come back to us decades later and it somehow just works again. I’ve had a resurgence of Journey lately. I got so tired of Journey, but now, I find I can really appreciate Steve Perry’s voice so much more than I used to.
I grew up in the 70’s and graduated high school in 1981. The best times of my life growing up in that time period. I’m so glad that I grew up back then. I wish I could go back to those times. People that grew up back then know what I’m talking about. There is no way to explain it.
I totally agree. I think you'll both love this song more after seeing Rick Beato's breakdown. I've heard this song hundreds of times and he points out things that I simply never heard before (like an electric finger picking with the acoustic in the intro). I was an audio engineer and I still didn't notice that until his breakdown! There's some real gold he draws your ears to.
I’m going to add another recommendation for y’all to check out Rick Beato’s What Makes This Song Great video on this song. It’s incredibly in depth and you will definitely enjoy! Rock on fellas!
Love his channel. you learn more watching his videos than if you took a year of guitar lessons. (slight hyperbole). he knows theory like nobody. and he can teach it in a way that isn't overwhelming.
I LOVE how these two young guys immediately started grooving to it and feeling it! Yeah, this is music. Iconic...incredible. I could not love this video any more. The look on their faces had me reliving my first time hearing this masterpiece. For a few moments in time, I was 15 again. Life was good, the music was pure and real. Thank you for this gift. I need to watch it again..and again!
I’m a Gen X’r. I would never have thought my parents music to be this cool. We truly lived in the best time of music. Even Ten year olds love our music.
Man...it does my heart good to know that younger guys like you appreciate Boston, especially More Than A Feeling. This coming from an old lady who was in high school when this album dropped. Yep, this song (the whole album, really) is truly TIMELESS. Your grandchildren will be listening to it and lovin it.
Just close your eyes and slip away...How cool is it that we've been doing that for a at least 40 years? Maybe more, who's counting? We just hide in our music and keep loving Boston! Flawless, indeed!
Errr ummmm, no mention of Queen? While Boston had a unique sound, A Night at the Opera was way out there. And don't forget, Elton John still had some good music left in him at this time, and then along came Don't go breaking my heart and Philadelphia Freedom, sigh.
The vocals are one thing, but Boston is one of the few bands that I will contend you can actually FEEL the guitar notes hitting your brain in its special place. This is the definition of power rock right here, folks.
Man I’ve been waiting my entire 24 years of life to hear an engineer breakdown a Boston tune, and Rick knocked it outs of the park. Hearing Brad’s vocal’s alone brought a tear to my eye:)
I wholeheartedly support this comment. Just discovered Beato and I can't imagine a more competent or qualified analyst of music. He knows theory, he knows production, he can play almost any part himself. Best of all, he is truly *analytical* in the best possible way.
Every time I hear this song...I have an immediate flashback to my freshman year in high school. Every kid in school had this album. Songs like this blasted from cars going down the Boulevard. It was a cool time to be young!
Tom Scholz made the ENTIRE 1st Boston album in the basement of his home in Watertown, Massachusetts. He worked on it during his spare time while taking leaves from his day job at Polaroid as an engineer.
What's really weird about it is that the same thing was done by Dave Grohl with the Foo Fighters. He did the entirety of the first Foo Fighters album by himself. Only, Dave's a drummer so he handled the drums too.
I truly believe that these guys haven't heard this before... because they didn't start belting out the lyrics as soon as it started.. it's impossible not to...haha
Did the guy with the long hair slip and mention the song "Smokin'" which is on the album? That would indicate that he may have heard "More Than A Feeling".
One of the purest songs of rock and roll ever. Timeless. Perfection in Rock music. Cant believe you've never heard it. After Brad died it wasnt the same, jmo.
The 'production' was done by one man - Tom Scholz - in his basement. He played all parts but drums and vocals - which were added after he laid the main tracks with beats. This is a masterpiece of art that can't be compared to other groups at the time because of one man's vision and his genius - he also designed the studio and invented tech to make this sonic sound. Glad to see younger audiences appreciate Boston, just thought I would add some additional perspective to your analysis.
Hey Jim you've got that 100% wrong. The debut album was not the result of one man's vision and genius. It was the sum of three . Tom and i wrote that music together in my basement in Jamaica plain starting in 1969. As the tunes began to come together I would bring my drums to Toms home in Watertown.Tom had built a 4 track recording set up where we would track the drum beds for each of the songs. No one but Tom and I were ever in the studio. I would play the track by myself. Tom would play along with me only as a unrecorded scratch track to help me know where I was in the song arrangement. Over the years I became very good at ignoring his performance because he would always screw up but i could still use it as a road map for where I was in the song.My contribution to this masterpiece is the percussive foundation that supports the melodic structure above. Over many years Tom relied on my percussive foundation to inspire him as he searched for the chord changes on the debut songs. When we started to work in my basement Tom's Instrument was keyboard. This is why the first Boston music ever recorded was Foreplay in my Basement in JP. He had just bought a guitar when we first started working in my basement and over the next few years taught him self to play as we wrote the tunes together. The first demo we ever did was at Natural Sound in Maynard ma. in the spring of 1970. The demo was turned down by all the labels but they all wanted to buy one song San Francisco day which later became Hitch a Ride. We displayed the talent we possessed at this early date but it would take over six years of hard work before we achieved success. Brad is the third contributor to this masterpiece. He did not join the band until spring of 1972. After he joined he re-sang all the vocals on the demos that had been done by other singers. A year later after getting married Brad quit the band at his wife's request. Tom and I continued with another singer until spring of 1974 when i told Tom i could not play in mothers milk any more because i was going broke. We only did about three gigs a month because we could not take regular club gigs because Tom worked a full time job at Polaroid. A friend of mine had called and ask me to play in his band because his drummer had just quit two weeks before they would start six months of booked club gigs on Cape Cod.I told Tom I would still work on the demo recordings just not the few cover gigs we had been doing. Over the next year Tom and I did all the drum beds then Tom would perform the rest of the instruments for the final demo. After the music was complete Brad would come to the studio and track all the vocals. There were no drum machines to make beats.if there were the first album would sound just like the last album. The sum of one person can never compare to the the sum of three.
@@jamesmasdea947 Well I certainly stand corrected! The information about the band on UA-cam often suggests this idea, so maybe someone should make a documentary that represents the facts as you present them here. Boston was so unique, and many of the tunes are anthems of our youth, so I'm sure we would love to hear more.
@@jamesmasdea947 So interesting to hear all of that. You really need to reach out to someone to get this all recorded for posterity. Thank you for letting us know some history behind this amazing album!✌️
When Brad Delp’s voice, and the guitars begin to soar, THEY GRAB YOUR SOUL on the way, and ALL rocket together, STRAIGHT INTO THE STRATOSPHERE!! Still takes me there decades later. Thanks guys for experiencing this song! RIP Brad❤️
This was Boston's first song out of the gate. It carries the same weight as other debut songs; Hold The Line - Toto, Feels Like The First Time - Foreigner, It Doesn't Really Matter - Platinum Blonde, Lucky Man - ELP. All phenomenal first songs.
Right! The 70s have the best music in my opinion. Not that all music eras dont have great stuff....but I listen to 70s most and over and over. I grew up in the 70s.
Best era for music. I love the 80s, too (my teenaged years,) but the 70s were the best for the incredible variety of genres you heard - stadium rock, prog rock, art rock, pre-hair metal, singer-songwriter, soul, funk, disco, Bowie, early punk... Also the best for sound / production. Best era for music (other than Baroque).
@one crying in the wilderness listen to the vocals only version like one person said. All brad. Lead and backing. No help. Tom Scholz confirmed that himself.
Me too, babe. Me too. The great thing about being in the high school band was I could legitimately get out of class to go "practice" in the band room. Instead some of us would go into the sound proof practice booths, turn up the stereo to 10 and nearly blow the door off!!!
Rosemary Paul I know! You’re so right! My cousin was in a band in the 80s and still in the same band to this day. I used to feel so privileged to be there with them. All their instruments and hair, mustaches like this dude on the right used to make me giddy 😛
As someone who loves rock with musicality this track is spot on for me. It ebbs and flows, rises and falls, rages and calms like the ocean at a beach. It has great melodic touches and the vocal and backing blend is one of the best examples of that art I know of. There are few rock tracks which "don't let up" that I really like, but this one is THE outstanding example of classy rock - though of course a lot of people emulated the style after this became a hit.
Keep in mind, their wasnt a "they" as in a band when this album was made. It was made by guitarist Tom Scholz by himself. He brought in a drummer and hired Brad Delp to sing. But everything was him. He recorded this album in his basement.
Cirtical comment. His bass lines are so wrapped up in the tune's overall groove and easy to overlook. Glad you brought it up and I hope a lot of people catch it!
@encryptor Actually, there was a "they". Tom Scholz did indeed do most of the album. But the drummer who recorded the demos, Jim Masdea, was more than just a hired gun. He was a friend who played in bands with Tom for a number of years and worked on many demos with Tom. Sib Hashian came in to record on the actual album and was an actual band member for both of Boston's first two tours (and recorded all drums on the 2nd album too - and a few on the third as well). Jim Masdea's drumming is the record version of "Rock 'n Roll Band" though. Brad Delp was far more than a hired gun. He even wrote the last song on the album - and co-wrote "Smokin'". Both Tom and Brad were signed to the first record contract (it wasn't just Tom). Barry Goudreau and Fran Sheehan also played on the first album, but their roles were very limited. Tom deserves a ton of credit, but that should not diminish the contributions of the others.
@@Dante95240 There were a few lawsuits over many years. The longest involved CBS (parent to Epic Records), where it has been suggested some or all of Barry, Sib and Fran cooperated with CBS. They were not a party to the suit and would not have been awarded anything had CBS won though. For their cooperation, they continued to receive artist royalties whereas CBS withheld royalties from Tom (until the suit was won by Tom - and CBS ultimately paid punitive damages for withholding those royalties). Years later, some or all of Barry, Sib, Fran and maybe even Jim Masdea brought a suit against Tom for the right to the Boston name. My opinion is that the feuds amongst band members had more to do with a lack or respect (on all sides to varying degrees) than it did with money.
I was 5 when my parents bought this album... I still have it. “More Than A Feeling” is in my last request to be played at my funeral. It’s such a perfect song.
Love the way you two genuinely experience this incredible music...with your eyes closed feeling every bit...much like the way we used to when we were young.
There's a little "had to be there" aspect to this song and this album. The production had such clarity, tightness, and coherence - it was a quantum leap in quality. I remember clearly hearing it for the first time walking past someone's dorm room. I turned around and poked my head in to ask them who it was. It was a revelation.
All the more remarkable in that there really was no band. Tom Scholz did this in his spare time while working at Polaroid, played and recorded all the guitar, keyboard and bass tracks himself, and invented a lot of the equipment to produce the unique Boston guitar sounds. He brought in others do do the vocals and drums and then mixed this song, and most of the rest of the album, himself in his basement. None of these songs were ever played live in their entirety by a real band until after this album was made.. The guy is a genius.
Have seen some shorts recently on tic tok of Tom and his days at Polaroid and how he got the album and insisted he produce it at home. Even visited the house/basement at his old place. He was taller than parts of the ceiling😁 His work stories are coll too. Check it out.
You had to live it, high school in the 70s...it was more than a feeling. Do they know Scholtz is an MIT grade and designed his own line of amps, plays multiple instruments.
He also designed and owns the patent for the portable CD to Cassette adapter that allowed you to play CD’s through your cassette player. A great invention for a time.
Every song on their debut album is a gem. I listened to the whole thing start to finish when I bought it back in the seventies. The quality of the production is awesome
I'm 40. I wasn't born until a couple years after this album came out, but my mother made sure I had a background in great music. This song's been with me my entire life, from records to tapes to CDs to digital and... now I have it on vinyl again, just like when I was a kid. You guys *really* need to hear some good stuff, just watching the expressions on your faces as you're watching this tells me that you've been missing out on what made music such a cultural force for decades. Modern music just doesn't usually have whatever it was that made it that powerful, it's all commercialized and commodified. A lot of music is just a plastic product anymore. Try listening to "Roundabout" by Yes (1970s), or "Rosanna" by Toto (1980s), or even "Technical Difficulties" by Racer-X (1990s?).
Best front side of an album ever. 3 songs - More Than a Feeling, Peace of Mind, Foreplay/Longtime. No other album has ever had such 3 hits on the front cover. No other. Period.
@@kurtfrancis4621 Um.....yes...many had 3 hits....WHOS NEXT.....FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE......EAGLES albums......AEROSMITH......many more.....I LOVE me some Boston though.
If you check out some of the videos on here about the making of this song you will find that every single part of this song was written by MIT graduate Tom Scholts who started playing guitar at 21 years old. He also played and recorded all the music in an extremely small basement and had Brad Delp come in and do all the vocals ans harmonies. You used the words mature and polished when in reality it was preformed by armature musicians and when the masters that Tom recorded in that basement went to the studio they did very little polishing, the guy is just a frickin genius!!! There is also a footnote on the original album cover stating that all music and sounds were created without aid of computers or synths, Tom built all of his own effects and all were analog. What an impressive guy, he actually wrote and played almost all the music on that album with the exception of "Let Me Take You Home Tonight" which Brad Delp wrote. Amazing song!!!
@Reality Bytes you said it perfectly. Best ROCK group ever 2 me. I can listen all day. A man I'll never be sadly described BRAD DELPH'S true heart. It was a beautiful song. Thanx 4 posting.🇺🇸🎧🎼🎵🎶🎹🎻🎺
Tom Scholz was an engineer at Polaroid, I believe and he built a bunch of the effects used here. It's sad that Sib Hashian , the drummer and Brad Delp who had the voice of an angel are no longer with us.
No such thing as over hype when it comes to Boston. Watching you guys react to music I grew up on is great, but not nearly as great as hearing the appreciation. Keep up the great work gentlemen!!!
This song is timeless. People from all ages will find the absolute joy of rediscovering it. This is one of those "hit songs" I will never tire of, along with Ace of Spades.
@Victor R. Actually a lot of young people listen to Pandora or Spotify and if they aren't listening to classic rock then songs like this don't get recommended to them. It's possible.

And THAT my friends is why the 70’s and 80’s has the best music ever... your welcome 🙏🏻
Well, yes and no.. I guess we are all bigger fans of what we grew up in.. i was born in ‘72
Nuff said Beth!
Why are you saying you’re welcome? Did you play in a band? Lol 😂
70's 80's 4 EVER...
foreigner fan, I was born in 65... 70s are my Favs... I love a lot of 60s.... And the 80s had a ton of great songs.....
As a 53 year old male, I love that you guys are giving the music I grew up with a listen 👍🏻 I feel that I’m fortunate to have grown up in the best age of music
You're not alone bro.
Same!! Our music is the best!!
I'm 54. I hear you!
I'm 60 years old and now i know that the world has a chance if kid's like Boston!!
These guys are quality. They a finding it hard to believe there was an album where every track was sensational.
@@Ldunk : Dead on!!!!! Tom Scholz was a M.I.T. graduate. Another person of his era who was a great music innovator and hardly recognized was Todd Rundgren.

If Brad Delp's voice doesn't give you goosebumps during this song, you're not a human being.
RIP Brad Delp.
Brad was a genius, and miss him and that voice!!!!
My first rock concert was 1976 Boston,, Louisville,Ky,,,,damn I’m old I was 13
Miss Brad so much. Think about him probably more than I should. But his voice is that important to me. Very sad he's gone.
guess I'm an alien now
Summer 1976 I’m lying in my bed late at night with the radio on and for the first time I heard More Than a Feeling.
Awesome!!
And we will be playing it again same time tomorrow better than any alarm clock
No auto tune. Technically complex, even more so in public. Just pure talent!
Delp's voice was pure and real. Overstacked and produced, but no it was real. RIP.
This Scholz guy was a tech-geek and a multi-talented musician. 'Nuff said.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scholz_Research_%26_Development,_Inc.
Aaaaannnd, he designed, engineered and built the guitar processors for that unique "Boston" sound.

Can't believe I took great music like this for granted when it was current. Now I appreciate it more than ever.
Welcome to high school in the ‘70s :)

I still say this about music from Boston. While some bands and songs sound dated and have lost their appeal, Boston songs still sound fresh as the day they were first released. Not sure why they sound so fresh, but guessing that part of it is in the mixing and part is in the outstanding vocal talents.

Tom Scholz made the ENTIRE 1st Boston album in the basement of his home in Watertown, Massachusetts. He worked on it during his spare time while taking leaves from his day job at Polaroid as an engineer.
That's a truism. He did it ALL except drums and vocals. Sib Hashian and Brad Delp covered drums and vocals respectively.
What's really weird about it is that the same thing was done by Dave Grohl with the Foo Fighters. He did the entirety of the first Foo Fighters album by himself. Only, Dave's a drummer so he handled the drums too.
The producers wanted him to record somewhere else and he said nope, it my basement or no deal.

We called this “clean metal.” Best debut album ever! ❤️❤️❤️
@@jamesmasdea947 This story (and much more) would be nice to hear from you in a video...!
It makes my heart swell with joy knowing that the next generation is loving songs as much as I do
When Brad Delp’s voice, and the guitars begin to soar, THEY GRAB YOUR SOUL on the way, and ALL rocket together, STRAIGHT INTO THE STRATOSPHERE!!
These guys make me feel one hundred years old. Please do yourself a favor guys, ask Alexa to play 70's tunes, you will be better people for it.
Right! The 70s have the best music in my opinion. Not that all music eras dont have great stuff....but I listen to 70s most and over and over. I grew up in the 70s.
Kellie Lemay so funny .. so true. (Applying moisturizer right NOW,)
Best era for music.
F-ing chills...EVERY freaking time I hear this! Boaton was my high school sound track. Chills man!
@Reality Bytes excellent album for sure. Boston just sounded so huge and epic. Like they were playing for the word to hear. And they were.
And this was recorded in a time where there was no auto-tune.
Recorded mostly by Tom Scholz in his basement.
It was recorded in Tom's basement!!
Listen to More than a feeling vocal isolation sorry Brad didn't need any help ! Just multitracked the vocals.
@@TenereTales Damn straight.
@one crying in the wilderness listen to the vocals only version like one person said. All brad. Lead and backing. No help. Tom Scholz confirmed that himself.
Best song ever , The arrangements outstanding , voice wow !
Over hyping a Boston track is like herding cats-impossible
Well stated :-)
Sorry you can’t handle the truth
A laser pointer works pretty well. (Yes, missing your point.)
I like the pure reaction as opposed to stopping the song every 40 seconds analyze the lyrics or comment on the musicianship.
no fault of listeners that do that to keep from getting copyright strikes.
This song takes me back to being a 16 year old skipping school, smokin, drinking, flirtin, great memories
And Banging girls in the Girls locker room LOL. Then to the Dean's office ugh 😱😵
ME TOO!
I know I was 11 year even my mom love the this group
As someone who loves rock with musicality this track is spot on for me. It ebbs and flows, rises and falls, rages and calms like the ocean at a beach. It has great melodic touches and the vocal and backing blend is one of the best examples of that art I know of. There are few rock tracks which "don't let up" that I really like, but this one is THE outstanding example of classy rock - though of course a lot of people emulated the style after this became a hit.
Very well said.
Keep in mind, their wasnt a "they" as in a band when this album was made. It was made by guitarist Tom Scholz by himself. He brought in a drummer and hired Brad Delp to sing. But everything was him. He recorded this album in his basement.
... true, and don't forget the 10+ year lawsuit by the other guys in the group demanding 'more money', when they didn't write ANYTHING!!
@@Dante95240 Brad Delp did solid work singing. He deserves a fair bit of credit. (imo)
Boston is essential rock. Glad you young people carry on the music.
That is fascinating I had no idea
Have seen some shorts recently on tic tok of Tom and his days at Polaroid and how he got the album and insisted he produce it at home. Even visited the house/basement at his old place. He was taller than parts of the ceiling😁 His work stories are coll too. Check it out.
I don’t think there were ANY other voices for the original recording…only Brad Delp. He sang lead and backup/harmony.
You had to live it, high school in the 70s...it was more than a feeling. Do they know Scholtz is an MIT grade and designed his own line of amps, plays multiple instruments.
At the end of the 80’s we were still listening to these great 70’s songs. Like, all the time.
He also designed and owns the patent for the portable CD to Cassette adapter that allowed you to play CD’s through your cassette player. A great invention for a time.
Ogden High School Utah, 1977-1980 Foreigner, Styx, Boston, Kansas, etc
Can’t over hype this song or album, every single song is good on this album, only 8 songs. And better than anything today
Best front side of an album ever. 3 songs - More Than a Feeling, Peace of Mind, Foreplay/Longtime. No other album has ever had such 3 hits on the front cover. No other. Period.
K Francis Van Halen I is loaded with hits, appetite for destruction has a good frontside also, but i think you’re on to something..
@@kurtfrancis4621
Um.....yes...many had 3 hits....WHOS NEXT.....FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE......EAGLES albums......AEROSMITH......many more.....I LOVE me some Boston though.
FACTS!!!
The Cult "Sonic Temple" is a perfect album...
You seem like a fan, yet you can't even spell his name correctly.
Best male voice ever. Tom was extremely talented. Brad's vocals are untouched by anyone. Love all the hits.
Scholz drove Delp to suicide.
I’m grateful to have grown up and lived in the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s. What a great era in music! MORE THAN A FEELING is one of the best reasons!
True
👍 This is true.
No such thing as over hype when it comes to Boston. Watching you guys react to music I grew up on is great, but not nearly as great as hearing the appreciation. Keep up the great work gentlemen!!!
Yeah they are great I love em
This song is timeless. People from all ages will find the absolute joy of rediscovering it. This is one of those "hit songs" I will never tire of, along with Ace of Spades.
You made it to college without hearing More Than a Feeling?
You must not have had a father growing up
Lol
@Victor R. Actually a lot of young people listen to Pandora or Spotify and if they aren't listening to classic rock then songs like this don't get recommended to them. It's possible.
I still can’t get over they are in a band and didn’t know Boston!! Never been to organized sports either, eh?
Under a rock ...
Ever hear of the Lakers ? Lol
