One of the greatest rock singers of all time R.I.P. Brad.
He was definitely a one in a million voice. That range was 💥🎶
Even one in a million seems way too common of an estimate, but I catch your drift.
It’s so great to see younger generations enjoying classics like this.
Classics? I remember this song. Didn't think much of it then.
Odd response! Not classic? Let me guess, you don't like Journey, Kansas or REO Speedwagon, Rush either@ThomasFromTN
@@ThomasFromTN I don’t care what you think
It's like when this song was on Guitar Hero and Rock Band in the mid 2000's and tons of young people were introduced to this song.
@@mjcole12 70s arena rock is as dated and faded as John Denver and Bread. At least Journey and Foreigner had legit lead singers.
The magic of Brad Delp!
In many ways Boston was the Tom Scholz show but he was extremely fortunate to have Brad Delp as a vocalist. I couldn't imagine anyone else singing those songs. He hit those high notes with effortless ease. That is truly talent.
He worked with Delp for a while, so he knew what he had with him, and wrote accordingly. Hard to know what to expect had he paired with a different singer.
The look on your face when Brad Delp started hitting the high notes - I started to cry.
A child of the '80s, I've been a lifelong Boston fan, and I've always appreciated his vocal talents. I was saddened when that voice was silenced so young in the 2000s...
To see how you react to Brad Delp's gift makes me so happy, thank you!
RIP Brad Delp
Perfect voice on an absolutely perfect album.
The band Boston was one MIT student.who had an idea of what a rock band should sound like, set up a studio in his home, and began recording all the parts, then one day he stumbles on a man with this voice, and the rest is history. What amazes me about his upper register, is when he taps into it, the electric guitar comes in for the pre-chorus, and I genuinely have a difficult time telling his voice apart from the guitar.
They’re all perfectly seamless. To pick the end of one and beginning of the other is beyond the ken of us mere mortals. 🤷🏼♂️
Fortunately, the proof is in the pudding of the isolated voice track. It’s quite amazing!
Tom had been playing in bands for a few years before setting up the studio. Brad was pretty well established on the local club scene when he joined forces with Tom to form Mother's Milk.
This absolute timeless classic album was released in 1976. It's sounds just as good to me now as it did when I was a kid in 1976!
Thankfully, disco didn't last, but the good music did.
@@jeanclaude7018 Disco lives on through dance pop. Donna Summer is more relevant today than Brad Delp.
@@Spo-Dee-O-Dee Yes, to those who prefer a mindless monotonous dance beat to complex musical craftsmanship and lyrics that are actually RELEVANT to real life and intellectual thinking, rather than a desire to get down and boogie. So deep, isn't it?
@@jeanclaude7018 Why what you like is terrific, a classic - while what someone else likes "sucks"...
Is an old old OLD argument - as old as when Cain complained that Abel was gettin' favored treatment from Adam.
@@jeanclaude7018 As well as to journalists and historians...
Brad Delp sang ALL vocals on the Boston albums that he performed on. That’s all lead, all backing, and all harmonies. 💯% Brad Delp!
The drummer Sib Hashian who passed in 2017 was the father-in-law to Dwayne The Rock Johnson.
One of the best and underrated drummers of all time!!!
@@ChadAdkins-hx5zz Absolutely 🤘
I think you had a totally fitting reaction to Brad Delp’s singing- you clearly grasped the significance of his astonishing high notes. It’s been said he had a genuine four octave vocal range. I wouldn’t quite know myself, but I do know one thing. These still have to be some of the greatest high notes ever hit in rock.
Boston was your quintessential in your face, American rock band. Such memorable tunes that will never grow old. Brad was definitely one of the greatest rock vocalists that has ever been. " Don't be sad that he's gone. Be happy that he was here." 😊
RIP Brad.... you were one of the greatest!
This whole album was written and recorded by Tom Scholz (The guy in the silver jump suit with the gold guitar) in the basement of his Boston apartment building in 1974/75 which was unheard of back then. He also built a lot of his own recording equipment (He was an engineer at Polaroid) and helped to make home recording what it is today with some of the gear he designed. The fact that he got these kinds of sounds in a basement with home-made gear in the mid 70s is incredible. And he wrote great songs on top of it (He played all the guitar and bass parts along with the organ, the guy is crazy talented). Your reaction to Brad's high notes was awesome, great job as always!
I’ll go ahead and blow some very deserved smoke up Tom Scholz a bit more, by pointing out that he wasn’t just any engineer for Polaroid (which is already impressive enough); by age 27, he was one of the senior design engineers there.
Let Me Take you Home Tonight was written by Brad, and Smokin' was also co-written by Brad
If one didn’t already know this was the 70s, the phrase “silver jumpsuit with the gold guitar” would give it away.
@@gavinsheridan4680 🤣
Hmm, obviously Tom is awesome, but I wonder what would of transpired without Brad? 🤔
Some say he’s still holding that note. RIP my friend gone but never forgotten .
RIP Brad. You gave us some great music.
Thanks for the great reaction! Brad Delp really has a wonderful voice!
Congratulations young lady, youre the only reactionist ive seen for this song that picked up that super high note that matched the guitar towards the end👏
Thank you for taking the time to review this iconic song. Delp's vocal abilities literally shocked the music world and is one of the many reasons why Boston has stood the test of time. Once you hear them, you can never forget them. They were that good. I look forward to seeing more of your reactions to this group. Cheers from Texas!!
The 'test of time' doesn't start ticking until the generation that first rocked out on it dies off.
remember when Bostons first album came out. It was the being played everywhere it seemed. Every song was fantastic. The second album was fire too!
Their title album "Boston" is pretty much the perfect album, from which this song comes from.
The guitarist is an mechanical engineer from MIT
Born in Holy Toledo, ohio
Mechanical engineer.
REST WELL BRAD!!!! One of the greatest voices in rock history who ended his life WAY too early! This album is one of the greatest ever(and this is the first album) and this song IMO is top 3 all time!!!!!! Oh, and it brings a tear to my eyes when i see you enjoy this like I have for way too long!!!
The power and beauty of Brad Delp's voice was incredible!
Brad Delp R.I.P, My God what a Voice!!!
Best Debut album of all time.every song on it is 🔥
Yes, you will find that in the 1970's there was something in the water. The talent of the singers back then were quite extraordinary.
The secret to his singing is that mustache. A mustache like that gives you special powers.
If you haven't already, check out Pat Benatar. She was a classically trained singer who was accepted into the Juilliard School of Music but chose a different path and married her high school sweetheart. Her mother was an opera singer who gave it up to raise her kids. Fortunately, Pat found her way back to music. Fun fact: Pat & her guitarist Neil Giraldo have been working together since 1979 and married since 1982. Pretty remarkable.
Especially for a couple to be the rock business.
Look up Brad's isolated vocals on YT for this song... Beautiful !
The 1st 3 Boston albums will change your life . Every song ! Always love your classic rock reactions Aaliyah, Enjoying your discovery ... ; )
Brad Delp's voice is just so easy to listen to. Some people can hit high notes but it may not sound the greatest. Yet, Brad Delp can hit those high notes and it is so pleasing to hear.
RIP Brad. You are missed.
Brad could actually SING those highs, not just scream them like others.
We played this Boston album to death when I was in college. The whole record was great!
Brad has one of those voices you can't teach.
First song I learned on guitar 40+years ago. Even before "smoke on the water"
I'm speechless! Their first two albums were masterpieces. INCREDIBLE BAND!!!!!
Music from my youth that’s near and dear to the heart. Enjoyed watching you react to the man’s amazing singing talent.
He has one of those voices that makes me say, "I wish I could sing like that. Him and Klaus from Scorpions. Hope to listen to them soon. Always enjoy listening to this song and, as always, great reaction. 😊❤
Fun fact Tom Shultz the founder of the band and plays lead guitar he wrote this song about when he was a little kid and he had a crush on his older cousin (Marieanne)
Boston was a huge smash when they came on the scene. We were in awe the same as you.
This song is definitely top 10 all time rock songs. Brad is top 5 all time vocals. R.I.P Brad I miss your talent.
I loved your reaction! So genuine and honest ! It’s an amazing band and loved your interpretation
I am from the northeast USA! We love Boston and NRBQ!
Weren't you famous back in the eighties for mailing loud packages to people.
@RobWool Couldn’t be him. He’s not wearing a hoodie and sunglasses. 😄
A truly iconic and legendary band with a great voice that gave us some classic, amazing and timeless songs.
From Boston's debut album, which is a masterpiece.
Brad had such an incredibly powerful voice. Rest in Peace.
Shockingly, Rolling Stone magazine did not include Boston's album in their 2022 list of "100 Best Debut Albums of All Time".
@@x_trio_3_po333 I wouldn't call it shocking - it is a good album, radio-friendly from end to end, but it is not hard to find 100 better debuts.
It's Rolling Stone. What do they know?
@@ZiggieZoo In 2013 it was #41...staff does turn over over time.
@Spo-Dee-O-Dee True enough. I like what I like and dislike what I dislike. I trust my ears and mind to provide me with my enjoyment response to music. I don't need music journalists telling me that. That's all I meant. There are hugely popular acts that I despise and obscure bands that I love.
Quite simply one of the finest Rock songs of all time. 🙏🏻
All the harmonies and vocals on this and all the songs on this album were Brad Delp. This album was essentially the genius Tom Scholtz writing, producing, engineering, and playing every instrument except the drums, and Brad singing. Amazing.
Yes, even though they are showing the band “playing” in the video, it is the studio version for the music. So it is Tom playing all the instruments, except drums, and Brad harmonizing with himself.
My whole life listening to this song I'll never understand how he hits those high notes. It just seems so natural for him. By the way, the Les Paul electric guitar has a distinctive sound and I just love the way it sounds on this song. Flawless.🎸 Good reaction! 🙏😎😎😎😎😎
the baking vocals are ALL done by Brad, So perfect
S brilliant performance and incredible vocal ability
Every song on that album is pure gold, perfection personified! It is probably the greatest debut album by any band, of all time.
I would love to see you react to other songs from this album!
It was the #3 debut of 1976, behind The Ramones and The Modern Lovers (who have two more members in the RRHOF than Boston, albeit as members of The Cars and Talking Heads.)
You need to check out the rest of this album. Your mind will be blown.
Brad Delp outstanding rip
This is now my #1 go-to reaction when I wish to enjoy this song.
An iconic cornerstone of classic rock. My favorite band since introduced by my brothers in the late 70s. Hope you do the entire album, every song is fantastic.
This is one of the most distinctive bands ever. No mistaking this patented sound. R.I.P. master Delp. Music Will never forget you.
Not in the Hall of Fame
Love that this isn't just a reaction, but that you added technical exposition (particularly on the open mouth shape to achieve greater projection).
What you surely hasn’t noted is that , before the first guitar preparation to the chorus , when he sings “ I close my eyes and I slipped away” he sings the same notes that the guitar plays” . Rick Beato channel puts the voice track only and it’s incredible how Brad sings . This part it’s not notice by many , like me that has been listen to Boston since 1976.
R.I.P. Brad Delp, one of a kind.
There's something ethereal about the song... especially the last super extended note with the harmony... if you close ur eyes and listen , it has an angelic choral sound ❤
Boston was a great part of my rock and roll era, and Boston and Bruce Springsteen were incredible bands.
First time was 1976, and Bruce in 1977. Ended seeing both 7 times. Great review
thank you for your honest reactions
I've watched reactions to this video probably fifty times. Their phenomenal.
Love your reaction. Boston was the first concert I ever went to, and it set the bar so high for how a band should sound.
I was 14 when this song came out loved it straight away
Seeing young people today enjoying it for the first time brings back memories
Love your reaction
YES BRAD DELP THE SINGER AND TOM SHOLZ ON GUITAR WERE A TEAM
Absolutely GREAT review and reaction!!!
Keep up the amazing work! 🩵🩵🩵
This song is Perfection!
Beautiful smile = beautiful soul 🙏
From my youth this band is one of the most awsome bands from my days and will never get old and is uplifting also glad you discovered them
Love to go back to 1976! Was only six but had a great childhood!
RIP Bradley Delp. Word has it God was putting together Heaven's house band and they needed a lead singer, so he was called home.
This entire debut album was amazing, for my money Hitch a Ride is a mesmerizing can't miss song You have to check out
You must react to their whole debut album. Every song on the album were big hits. The lead singer of Boston is Brad Delp.
Such a great song! The vocals are out of this world. That riff during the chorus is so iconic. Nirvana kind of used a version of it during Smells like Teen Spirit. Boston influenced so many bands.
Thank you Aaliyah, enjoyed the reaction as always!
Excellent choice. All their songs are good or better.
Like so very many others (Kansas, Styx, America, Blue Öyster Cult, Ronnie James Dio, Slade, Ted Nugent, Triumph, Waterboys, and many more artists that turnstiles & record sales along with radio play have been legendary with fans) Boston remains completely snubbed by the elitist music industry scum at The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. 🫨 This album and tour were groundbreaking beyond words, yet because Sholz did things his own way and against the grain are banished to the R&RHoF “Island of Misfit Artists.”
Another great reaction, maraming salamat po. 🙏
Remember, there is no Boston without the late, great Brad Delp. I say this with immense respect for the unmeasurable genius of Tom Sholz!
Scholz could care less about the hall of fame. He says the music world is filled with very low forms of humanity.
It great to see a very young and very talented musician appreciating the fact that fantasy music is fantasy music from all decades.
I wish I could have a quarter of what Brad had. His voice and registers were jaw dropping and just straight bad ass.
Best voice ever
RIP Brad Delp , a true pioneer in classic rock , one of the unmatched timeless vocalists with amazing talent gone too soon , an amazing band to see live , lucky enough to see them once at PNC Art Center in Holmdel, New Jersey.
I was just coming into loving music in my young tweens when this came out. I heard it a few times in the early years, but it wasn't until I could drive that my friends and I realized how amazing this band was. One of the best albums ever. Period. And in a road trip?!? Best.
However, in those days, we simply had no idea, and never discussed, Brad's voice. We just took it completely for granted. It wasn't until the UA-cam reaction age that I learned enough to understand how absolutely amazing he was.
I feel the music world is still stuck in that old way of thinking about music ("DUDE! Cool band!) and hasn't evolved in their knowledge enough to give this man what he deserves: reverence of his vocal capacity and a spot in the Music Hall of Fame!
Most impressive vocally on their stellar 1976 debut album. I'm a keyboardist, so Foreplay/Long Time is my favorite.
His voice is an instrument.
Brad Delp is the lead singer and is hitting those high notes legitimately. I saw Boston in concert for their Don't Look Back tour and he was just absolutely killing it. Some singers will low ball their high notes in concert, but this dude let it all hang out. So sad he's gone. RIP.
Thank you for mentioning melody, which no one mentions anymore. For the last 15 to 20 years, all anyone talks about is vocals and lyrics. I have been leaving comments for years, and no one ever responds or relates to what I say, which is indicative of how the concept of melody has been lost in the narrative today about music and why music in the past was so great. Music in the past had melody both in the choruses and in the instrumentals. Rare today.
His range was G♯2 - E♭6
His natural range went to G4; the rest is a decent falsetto. Remember also that in the mixing the producer could layer a track that emphasized the harmonics over the fundamental, making it seem higher than it was and increase it progressively to give the "SOARING!!" effect.
With certain music it's often best to just lean back, close your eyes and enjoy. This is one of those tunes!
Nice! I knew she would love those vocals.
My first concert--1977 at the Capitol Centre! And yes, they sounded just as powerful and pure that night as they do in this video.
Brad Delp had unreal vocals. RIP
Thank you for the samples of your singing. It really helps to give us context of what you are at in your journey, and it's already quite impressive.
Never get tired of this @ Beautiful girl, Aaliyah its timeless always from generation to generation - enjoy classic rock forever
its artistry is everlasting..
Evokes deep even spiritual feelings emotions memories significant with meaning within all of us..
As does Music in various ways and yours singing voice
R.I.P. Brad Delp 😥Everytime I hear this I tear up and goose bumps!
Incredible vocals
Your face is SO great in this reaction. This is why I watch reaction videos. Thumbs way up!
Boston was one of my favorite rock groups when I was growing up.❤😂
Thanks for reacting to them.
I have a request. So if you get a chance and would like to hear a beautiful multi-talented music artist... Please check out this young woman by the name of Putri Ariani and her Golden Buzzer performance on AGT 2023. And then anything else she has done. She is an up-and-coming singer and songwriter and pianist.
You will not be disappointed in any way shape matter or form. ❤❤❤
Her vocal range is beyond mesmerizing.
One last note she has been blind since birth..
Brad Delp is phenomenal. His voice is far from common. I have never heard anything like his voice.❤ ❤❤ 9:03
EVERY VOICE in this song IS BRAD DELP. They recorded this in Tom's basement, and Brad sang all the parts, and Tom mixed it together. Because of their success, they had to put a band together for touring. Tom played and recorded all the instruments except the drums. He even designed and built electronics to modify the sounds of the guitars. This is why no one else sounds like Boston. Brad was such a beast at singing.
Brad did all the harmonies on the record. Amazing band, glad you found them.
