After being committed for over a year, I still hadn't reached 1K subscribers, etc. As a full time classroom teacher who then had to work almost day and night through the pandemic, I couldn't do 3-4 UA-cam videos a week anymore. Thank you again for this super valuable video. I greatly appreciate your comments at around the 6:00 minute mark where you share that the highest value you see, is to create content that benefits your audience. Your authenticity comes through clearly. I feel the same about content I will be putting out on my future channel. I founded my own company that installed renewable energy systems for remote homes for 27 years. As one of the only women, that I know of, who worked in this field, I want to share my expertise and knowledge to anyone who can use it. I believe in empowering people, as you do. So sharing knowledge is the way to do it. You are a wonderful inspiration. Thank you again. 💐
I set up a new channel to document our journey of moving/retiring from the U.S. to Punta Cana and all that's involved. The goal is to help/inspire others with all the questions we had when we made this decision. It's become such a popular place to invest in so I want to share our experiences. I haven't posted a video yet but hope to very soon. Yes, I've been suffering from the infamous "fear factor" of putting myself out there and I'm working hard to get over it. You are so inspirational! 🙂
I wish the You Tube system didnt punish creators for uploading different types of content - ie, a channel that has playlists on travel, gaming, cooking etc and the algorithm would "see" those playlists and recommend those videos. Unfortunately the way it works is to get confused and sideline mixed-topic channels and it pushes channels that are very niche into one specific thing. Thus, picking your niche is a big deal bc you're going to be spending a crap-ton of time on it.
I agree. I've only had my channel for a couple of months but it's all the different arts and crafts I do and sometimes I feel like it's too much variety and that's why I'm having such slow growth. My boyfriend on the other hand, started a channel one week ago for Pokemon cards and has absolutely blown past me as far as views and subs go. It's frustrating 😂 but I'm used to slow growth i guess. And I am enjoying it. The right people will find me eventually 🥲

I was lucky enough to gain the required subs and views within a 45 day period and I made $500 my first month - BUT, making money via adsense is very difficult as you must have a phenomenal amount of views to earn any significant amount of money. I just got very lucky with a small series of videos on a game that I knew was very popular right then. Since then, Ive been inconsistent with uploading (inconsistent uploading kills your channel, trust me) bc of family stuff so now I get adsense deposits every few months (every time the total hits $100) just on my old videos. Biggest thing you can do for yourself if you start a channel is pick a topic you really like bc you'll be spending MASS hours on it, and be CONSISTENT.
You are so informative! I have watched quite a few of these pro youtubers tutorials with hundreds of thousands of views, and they don't cover the topics or explain them as well as you do!

Hi Diane. This was incredibly interesting info. I cover several of the niches that you mentioned so that's really inspiring. You are one of my motivators for my new UA-cam channel here in the South of France. Three videos published and just fine tuning and editing my fourth video as a solo dual nationality 62 year old. Lots to learn. What I find challenging is not having to refer to a script which you never seem to do. Do you have a teleprompter or experience of speaking to camera? I really appreciate that you want to encourage us on this journey. Merci!
I’m so glad you’re taking action! 62 year olds from the south of France are sorely underrepresented 🙂 I usually outline what I want to say in the video. If there’s a part I know I can talk about off the top of my head, I leave as is. If there’s a part I know I need to think through, I basically write a script out to get it in my head. I’ll have it up on my computer screen and look it over before I get to that part, then just record but talk about it and not read. I’ve learned just to do chunks of the video at a time so I can remember better, then edit them together.
Bravo🎉. I hope you are able to truly let in the positive reaction you are receiving. I am thinking about starting my own channel and I feel seeing your videos is a nod from the universe to solidify my decision. Can’t thank you enough. I have always felt contribution is the real goal in life and please know I SEE and Value you😍
One fear I have is all the warnings about setting up your actual channel. Nervous I could screw that up. Retired high school English teacher, and technology moron. Should be interesting.
Thankyou ,i need all the help i can get! I started uploading really for recording daily life for myself and my grandchildren to look back on in the future. How things are living in a new country, the good and not so good parts. Im enjoying the process, and connecting with viewers ( a very tiny number so far). I see it really as a hobby not related to my " dayjob".
Wow, I just found your channel and watched this video. I have posted a few videos and get discouraged and keep thinking on how to push through. So, I want to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing what you did. I know that I have to make more of a schedule for recording. THANK YOU

Great information. Your communication skills so good and you presenting that way that everyone can understand what you saying. Hi Diane, I’m curious to know what you are using to film your videos. Are you using an iPhone, and is it a recent model? I’m wondering about upgrading from my old iPhone soon. Thanks for making these interesting videos!
Hello my 70+ UA-cam power player, Diane! :) I had to check - I have an iPhone 14. I record my videos in cinematic mode to slightly blur the background. hope that helps!
Great job Diane 🎉! I’m 60 retiring now and look forward to a part time side hustle from home. May want to consider partnering up for videos on helping people over 50 find side hustles? I was a vocational rehab counselor for 30 years putting people with disability to work…. Your thoughts? I’m impressed and subscribed 😊
@@DianeMoore what!? No way, you've actually replied. lol seriously you're an awesome teacher. I believe there's value in learning something creative, even if as a stress reliever but let's face it... who has the extra money to spend. Maybe those with a budget and willing to elimination what's unnecessary like cable is who. I'm thinking of canceling mine, I watch UA-cam mostly any ways. Hmmm maybe I'll turn that into a video... okay sorry for writing a book here, just wanted to thank you for replying as I know you're very business producing more great content. :)
Hi Diane 👋 I’m in adult novelties being a sexual wellness coach. I’m comfortable being on camera and help educating, menopause for example. I can’t pull the trigger, I’m used to TOS, non monetizing, etc. Basically setting myself up for failure instead of an educational channel.
My video with the image "these questions will help", might help you with some of that. If you're wanting to monetize, your channel isn't about you at all! :)
@@DianeMoore I definitely did. I am familiar with he terms CPM / RPM a bit from setting up my google adsense, but the details you covered in this video and on the UA-cam partner program is a plus.
The only thing I’m still not sure of is whether or not they take out taxes. I’ve heard conflicting comments concerning that. Do you know if each person is responsible for paying taxes? And do people get paid once a month?
When talking just Adsense income, you are responsible for paying the taxes. Paid once per month and I believe payments are sent sometime between 21st and 25th of each month.
I hear ya! The beauty of a small channel is you can try out different things, mainly to feel out what you’re going to want to talk about the most. Sounds like you shouldn’t have to narrow too much for those areas you mention, but build an audience with a focus on what you feel most comfortable with and then expand some. You can do it! 🙂
No reason not to try. I will say if you can’t find one, you might want to start with a bit of a broader approach just to get some traffic. If you see there is sufficient interest, then narrow from there. But seeing no evidence of that now might mean a pretty lonely path starting out …. Unless you just want to do it as a hobby which would be perfectly fine! 🙂
For broader appeal why not do a faith craft channel. It can be applicable for any faith with a goal of meaningful craft. It might enrich people’s faith lives. You would need to learn about other traditions, but aren’t you curious? You can always use Catholic examples along with others. You can sell your creations. There is a lack of meaningful craft in some faiths and people want it.
My daughter who is 45 thinks I’m too old for utube because she thinks it’s for the young folks. I’m extremely shy and don’t want to show my face at least right now. But from I’m learning utube has become the ‘it’ thing. I want to super niche and take advantage of AI, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Do you have a particular video? Thank you
I’ve been a UA-cam contact creator for almost 7 years. I have had a total of three different channels. Only one of them got monetized, and it was because of only one video that I put out which was a van life video that got me over the monetization hump in those seven years I’ve made a grand total of $500-$700 total in the last seven years, add sense. So I don’t know how anybody makes any money on UA-cam after seven years of doing this I’ve tried. I have tried all kinds of different things and nothing has worked.
Okay, I want to learn how people share their content without looking like they’re reading off the screen…. Lol. Do you use a teleprompter app or write a script or how do you do it, Diane?…..
Sure! 🙂 I usually outline what I want to say in the video. If there’s a part I know I can talk about off the top of my head, I leave as is. If there’s a part I know I need to think through, I basically write a script out to get it in my head. Bravo🎉. I hope you are able to truly let in the positive reaction you are receiving. I am thinking about starting my own channel and I feel seeing your videos is a nod from the universe to solidify my decision. Can’t thank you enough. I have always felt contribution is the real goal in life and please know I SEE and Value you😍
Kind words - thanks. Hope you’re able to move forward, Barbara 💥
One fear I have is all the warnings about setting up your actual channel. Nervous I could screw that up. Retired high school English teacher, and technology moron. Should be interesting.
Great video! Craft stresses me out too. Thanks for sharing.
Glad I'm not alone in that!
Thank you for this encouragement at my stage of life.
Glad it was encouraging for you!
You’re bringing light to this space keep it up🎉❤
Hope so! Thanks
Great video. Thanks.
Hope you got some helpful info!
Sounds like a wonderful goal!
Wow, I just found your channel and watched this video. I have posted a few videos and get discouraged and keep thinking on how to push through. So, I want to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing what you did. I know that I have to make more of a schedule for recording. THANK YOU
Glad it’s encouraging to you, Susie! You can do it 💥
Love your voice!!!
I worry I would run out of things to say
Then just make shorter videos 🙂
The info in my UA-cam Studio says creators need 3000 watch hours, not 4000. Either way it's a huge watch hour threshold to meet.
It is, but I got there WAY before I expected. 3000 gets you into a small part of the partner program. 4000 allow you to earn ad revenue.
@@DianeMooreThe audience must really love your videos, that's great! They never made that distinction. It just says 3000 watch hours. Thanks for your informative videos on this subject.
Thank you, Diane! Very informative information!
I just started a budgeting channel in February of this year. Slowly growing, but I’m in for the long haul 😊
Consistency + quality content = 🔥
Great information. Your communication skills so good and you presenting that way that everyone can understand what you saying. I am now waiting for pin and later I will see how my payment will look like. In this moment I can see is very high to my surprise. Thank you and I am wishing you lots of success on YT. 🌞
Thanks! Best wishes for your channel!
Thank you for confirming my fledging UA-cam directions in arts & crafts and travel! I will try to get them going again.
You can do it 💥
Omg yes, me too. Crafts stress me out too!
Glad I’m not alone! 🙂

🎉 great tips!!
Hope they help!
I record my videos in cinematic mode to slightly blur the background. hope that helps!
you rock
hey thanks!
These are very good tips and ideas. I’m going to try a few things I have experience in and see how they do. Thanks
I’m so glad! You can do it! 💥
Hello Diane this was really interesting. Thank you for sharing. 💕NonnaGrace 🐓
Hope it was helpful for you! 💥
Great information!
This is such a great video, I'm going to do then share how to budget for crafting, it changes SO much but I love making things with my hands. :)
You go Bonnie! 💥
@@DianeMoore what!? No way, you've actually replied. lol seriously you're an awesome teacher. Me not so much, I'm better with my hands/hands on instruction but my problem is I have SO many interest, lol I'm a boarder line hoarder of art supplies. Finding my niche was answered here... :)
Thank you for your interesting info❤🙏🏼
Hi Diane 👋
I’m in adult novelties being a sexual wellness coach.
Thanks very helpful 👍
Glad it helped! 💥
hi again
Hi Diane, off topic but what microphone are you using? Your voice sounds really clear. Great video.
Hey thanks! Hope you got some helpful info. 💥 Details/link for the mic are in the video description.
@@DianeMoorethank you so much for the response.
I am crafty and DIY. My problem is that I have trouble narrowing down the topics. I want to do many different things.
I hear ya! The beauty of a small channel is you can try out different things, mainly to feel out what you’re going to want to talk about the most. Sounds like you shouldn’t have to narrow too much for those areas you mention, but build an audience with a focus on what you feel most comfortable with and then expand some. You can do it! 🙂
I have actually been thinking about doing a Catholic craft channel. I can't find one at all.
@@DianeMoore thanks for the advice
For broader appeal why not do a faith craft channel. It can be applicable for any faith with a goal of meaningful craft. It might enrich people’s faith lives. You would need to learn about other traditions, but aren’t you curious? You can always use Catholic examples along with others. You can sell your creations. There is a lack of meaningful craft in some faiths and people want it.
@@FrancesHart99 maybe to some extent. We'll see
Hahahaha. Crafts stress you out. Me too
So glad to know I’m not the only one! 🙂
You’re the best looking 55 year old I’ve seen
I’m 55 too. How long did it take you to teach your monetization goals. Did you post every day? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks so much😊
I'm posting once per week
My daughter who is 45 thinks I’m too old for utube because she thinks it’s for the young folks. I’m extremely shy and don’t want to show my face at least right now. But from I’m learning utube has become the ‘it’ thing. I want to super niche and take advantage of AI, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Do you have a particular video? Thank you
I can’t help you with any of the AI stuff but my video on why you need to be on UA-cam if you’re over 40 can help otherwise
Thank you for this valuable information!!
You're 🌹Beautiful as well!❤
Hope the info is helpful! 💥
Thanks for sharing this!!!. Would you tell me how UA-cam premium pay to creator? Because you gain money for ads. I'm a little confused
If a premium member is watching your video, you get a portion of the fee UA-cam is charging that member. 😊
@@SDKBUNCH thanks
Correct - I'm sure they have some formula for the UA-cam premium payment
@@SDKBUNCH thanks a lot
@@DianeMoore thank you for your tips
I’ve been a UA-cam contact creator for almost 7 years. I have had a total of three different channels. Only one of them got monetized, and it was because of only one video that I put out which was a van life video that got me over the monetization hump in those seven years I’ve made a grand total of $500-$700 total in the last seven years, add sense. So I don’t know how anybody makes any money on UA-cam after seven years of doing this I’ve tried. I have tried all kinds of different things and nothing has worked.
I’m sorry that was your experience. Doesn’t seem like that for all. Maybe another try with another topic!
❤ do you write a script? Just talk off the cuff?
Sorta a little of both. I talk some about my approach in the video I posted today about my simple approach of recording videos with my phone.
Does the video need to be how long to qualify for ads?
There’s no minimum video length for monetization on UA-cam. They have to be 8 minutes long to qualify for mid-roll ad only.
I’ll have it up on my computer screen and look it over before I get to that part, then just record but talk about it and not read. I’ve learned just to do chunks of the video at a time so I can remember better, then edit them together.
@@DianeMoorethank you!
I don’t know why you mentioned crafts. It’s not even in the top 15 list of niches that pay on UA-cam
There's too many conditions .too complicated. Plus if I lost me, what exactly have I really gained
Hi mam,
I am Teja a professional thumbnail designer. Your videos are good in content.
Can I make thumbnails for your channel?
If you are interested please let me know mam.
you know that 90 percent of the people make absolutely nothing
I don’t know any stats in that regard, but there are plenty of people on UA-cam that have channels that have no interest in monetizing either.
That’s sad. If people find value in watching, I like to think the creator gets paid. They could be doing something else that financially supports them with their time.
I learned a lot from this! Super helpful! Thank you so much ❤🩵💙
So glad it’s helpful for you! 💥
