Oh my gosh! I do so many of those things you talk about! Thanks for the hints... I want to get better. Super helpful, Diane!
You can do it! 💥
You’re blazing the trail. I started my channel 3 months ago at 80 years old. I’m doing pretty good. Love your channel. Old Mike
That's fantastic, Mike!
I’m 43 and just started my channel. I’m so nervous that someone is going to hear me talking to my phone and think I’m a weirdo. Ugh I wish I didn’t care lol. But I’m getting better than I was 10 days ago!
I am 40, started channel in July. You will also have sucess
@ thank you! ❤️
@aprilshealingjourney All the best to you!
@ thank you! 😊
It’s more normal than ever these days (if that helps) 🙂
I like the idea of recording and keeping your practice runs. Later on, once you have an endearing following, you can use old footage as comedy relief content. One style some creaters use is to always tack on bloopers and obvious awkward moments at the end...it keeps the watchers hanging onto the end when they expect that type of "bonus" footage
My blooper reels would be twice the length of my videos :)
Dood, I just rush, trying get talking part done quickly... thanks for reminding me that the conversation can be done artistically.😮
Not sure I understand your comment, but always happy to remind :)
@DianeMoore * I edited it!🫠
I love that you record in segments! This makes it feel so much easier, and will help me stay in topic... cuz man... I can TALK 😂
Ha! It’s a huge help for me
I started a chat video just to get it out 😂some people watch and it seems to inspire me. 🌟
You’re absolutely right. It does get better in time. I’ve come to a point where I truly enjoy it.. being in front of the camera that is. Thanks so much for your video.
That's a wonderful point to get to! And certainly one that helps us to just speak more authentically
Wow! I saw your latest video and I believe a post asking what we would like you to cover (what we need to work on) and then I found this video. This is exactly what I was looking for. I have a 9-5 job working from home and talk on camera for the job constantly, but for some reason, when it’s for my own videos, I just can’t figure it out! If you’re still looking for content recommendations-this one right here is what I’m looking for. Thanks! 😊fellow gen x’er.
Great! Thanks for the feedback
43 year old new UA-camr here and this is one of the most helpful videos I’ve watched! Thank you so much!
So glad to hear that Gwenith!
I really like CONFIDENCE vs COMFORT. Thank you so much.
I think it's a good mindset shift. At least it is for me
Dianne! I did it! I’m 63 and I started my own channel. I have posted 6 vid🎉os so far. Thank you so much for your help and encouragement. ❤
That's fantastic! You go!!!
Haha I don’t even like seeing myself on FaceTime talking to family 😅
I usually point the camera to the ceiling 😊
Ha - that’s intense
your videos are so great❤
thank you!
57 to introvert here, have trouble talking to people but this camera lense is worse for some reason
I feel the same. I am just hoping to get better with time. Keep trying!
Hmm - not sure what to suggest, hope that practice makes this easier over time for you, Pops!
Agree
The first time I had to give a speech, I put a stuffed animal in front of me and pretended it was my sister 😂
I know it sounds silly, but it worked. Maybe it'll help you ❤
Hello! I’m Brazilian and recently started posting on UA-cam. I’m 50 years old and was so excited to discover your channel! It renewed my hope that there’s a wonderful audience out there for people over 50. Haha!
I’ve already subscribed to your channel and turned on all notifications so I can keep supporting and following your success. For all of us new UA-camrs, I pray that our channels grow so successful that we can make a living from them. May we be blessed with creativity, effective strategies, and the resources needed to create amazing content. Amen 🙏
Hey I appreciate you connecting. The 50+ crowd is thriving!
Key point in case you missed it. She is using the back camera not the front for the best quality. Not looking at yourself talk helps to reduce anxiety about being on camera.
May we all reach our target Audience 🙏
Glad you picked up on that! 🙂
Hi again Diane. You, my dear, are a natural on camera. Love your videos. I need to improve these skills desperately.🙄 Good points you make…I’ll keep trying. ~ Carol 🙏
Oh keep trying, Carol!
Hi Diane! I am 63 and yes, I agree --- no one is ever too old to be a content creator on UA-cam. I am so amazed at how you have truly tapped into a market that needs the authentic and sincere help that you offer and I am so happy to have found your channel! Wow! Wohoo! I had to subscribe because you know what sets you apart? You are so you! You are so personable and really come across as genuinely wanted to inspire others to get on the UA-cam wagon and soar! Congratulations on such a successful channel. Much love from Vancouver! (BTW, this weekend is crazy! Taylor Swift ends her Eras Tour this weekend : 3 straight nights beginning tonight at BC Place stadium!)
Aw shucks, you're making me blush, Jackie. Just trying to help :) Thanks for connecting (and congrats on the 10K subscribers!)
@@DianeMoore Yay thank you, Diane! :) Love your channel!
Gen Xer here. Definitely an introvert extrovert that get's stuck all the time on camera. I love all of your points and I took some notes to help. Thanks so much!
So glad it's helpful for you! Time to get unstuck!
Thank you for sharing these tips!
I recently did some practice videos and struggled with being confident vs. comfortable.
My son offered feedback, and he suggested I be more conversational. I struggled to grasp what that meant.
Your video helps me to better understand, and it's a relief to know that I'm not the only one having this issue.
Comfort certainly doesn't come quickly sometimes. Just takes practice and assessment - which it sure sounds like you're on top of!
This is a very helpful video. The part that I find more challenging with my UA-cam is actually talking. I communicate better in writing than in speaking, I've always been like that. Also, Eglish is my second language, but still I wont give up, I believe that with time and practice it will feel more natural.
Love that determination!
I love your content. I'm in! Thank you! 😊
That's great!
I figured the recording in segments eventually. Especially if your topic is educational! Chitchating is much easier to do without editing! Thank You!
Thanks Diane! I am a relatively new subscriber and am enjoying your videos! I ordered the tripod and mic from your links on another video during which you talked about the equipment necessary for a UA-cam channel!🤗
Thanks for connecting, Lisa! I hope they serve you well!
@@DianeMoore Thanks Diane! I recently became a fully monetized YPP! I continue to look for ways to improve my content and presentation. I appreciate your videos!🤗
Yes, energy and being animated is a good idea.
Yep
Was a photographer for 15 years... I've avoided the camera for a reason. haha. I'm still in the SO awkward stage. Finding my 'voice' has been the hardest issue. I am excellent at writing the scripts, organizing them into bullet points, but I still sound like I'm reading word for word. Thanks for the tips!
You can do it! It takes time and practice. Don't give up!
Comfort while recording is a great goal. I really appreciate your videos.
Comfort is way better than "confidence" every time.
Thank you, Diane. Appreciate hearing your advice.
Sure thing!
Great tips on how to look at the process of recording. I feel more confortable and confident already,
Wonderful, Anna!
Excellent tips Diane. And the best one is not enumerated but you express it near the end of the video ... focus on helping the viewer, _NOT_ on making a video that will boost your channel, etc., etc. Don't make videos just for the sake of making a video, publishing consistently; and all those other supposed UA-cam "Imperatives". If you have something to convey that will help the viewer, make the video. Otherwise, there is always cross-stitching ...
Well I hope my stuff is helpful because I can’t cross stitch 🙂
I am out of your target audience age range ….. but I don’t care cause I’m getting super good information from you. I just started my channel about a month ago actually channels there are several and I am turning 76 next week but thank you thank you thank you for all the great information.
All are welcome! :) So glad you're starting
Hi Diane! 🤗great tips/video, Thank you!
Blessings💜💜💜
I like your speaking pace. Not too fast but not too slow either. Also, your video length is great. Anything over 15 min, is harder to watch because too long for most channels. I’m 47 for reference.
I’m 36, a millennial and you’re helping me. I love your personality. 🥰 That part can’t be taught. Thanks for the vid.
Aw - thank you. That's kind! So glad it's helping!
Thanks Diane, for always providing such great information! You have such a talent, communicating and connecting with the viewer.
Kind of you to say! Hope it's helpful for you
Really great tips Diane thank you!
Hope they're helpful for you, Janice
Brilliant video Diane. I’m loving your work. You’re right, there’s not enough YT videos for over 50’s. X
Oh yes!
I’m here to learn. Mission accomplished. Thank you Diane.😅😅 5:50
Super duper tips!!
Such useful information. I just turned 61 and have had my channel for years, but I mostly post unlisted videos that I share with family. I've been planning to become more active on my channel and your tips are very helpful.
Glad to hear it, Vanessa!
Great tips!🎉
Thanks for a very helpful video. I made four videos two years ago but because they were so cringy I gave up. 😬 I’d love to get back into it… Tomorrow will be the day (but at this point ‘tomorrow’ still hasn’t happened)
Diane is great. I hear you about about the videos. But just keep trying. I started with shorts and I also listen to Think Media which has some helpful tips and information about starting out on UA-cam.
I hope this helps. Take care and I wish you well.
Did “tomorrow” happen? 💥
@@DianeMooreThank you for your reply. 'Tomorrow' still hasn't happened. This way I can remain perpetually stuck in 'today'. Which is actually great. I don't have to challenge myself, it takes no effort, nothing to learn or improve. I know exactly what to do, namely nothing, other than complain. LOL. Maybe I should aim for 'the day AFTER tomorrow' 😉
Thanks! Happy to hear what you have to say about how strange it is to talk to my phone's camera. I am just dipping my toes into creating content and this is what I need as my voice comes across so quiet and meak because I do not have confidence doing this yet.
Keep working at it - I bet that confidence will come!
Thank you Diane.
Sure thing, Jane
Hi Diane,great video,
Yes its very difficult if your camera shy. What I do is to have my webcam off to one side a bit,and only glance at it while I am showing my my tutorial.
This way its more comfortable for me anyway and less invasive I feel,
Important of course to have it set at eye level .Or sometimes I switch it off via shortcuts in Open Broadcast Studio ,then only switch it on when I need to while talking.
Whatever works :)
Get information. Love the idea of doing videos in sections. This is great information. Thanks for taking time for sharing.
Sure thing, Tony
Are u from the midwest. I lovvvve your sense of humor. You had me laughing so hard numerous times. Content n comfort is awesome. Thanks
🙂 glad to connect with you here, Glenda!
Thank you for sharing. 😊
Sure thing, Debbie
Thank you for the great tips and how to keep it simple.
Keeping it simple gets it done!
Diane I feel a lot better about the last three videos I made, thank you. I made them with a title yet without a script. When I watch back I could edit out the um’s and the occasional teary eyes. All that aside, its videos like this that encourage us to keep going 🙏🏻 🥰 xx
That’s great! Gotta keep rolling!
Laughed out loud several times . Very fun and good tips!
Getting more courage to start each time I watch you.
So glad the courage is growing, Lori!
Really good content, my highlight: be comfortable instead of confident. Thanks 👏💐
Great! Thanks for connecting
I loved this video and I embrace these tips. Love your personality
Hope they help!
The timing on this could not have been better. I, literally, just finished my first practice video with editing. Surprisingly, talking came very easy for me, but I can definitely improve on the "ums" and "uhs". Editing was a bit challenging. Once I made the decision to start a UA-cam channel, I hit all the relevant platforms to make sure I will be able to use the same name/handle across all of them; even grabbed the gmail. Thanks for the great information.
I love when that happens
Thank You Diane! I'm sharing your videos with my group.
You have an incredible presence on camera and provide much needed support to help our generation get their wisdom out there.
I just found you about a month ago and I'm a fan! ❤️
Thanks! And thanks for sharing
That all makes sense! Thank you, Diane. I also like CapCut, tho there is a learning curve 😂
Glad it makes sense :) Hope you can check out my video on simple CapCut techniques
@ will do!!
Thanks for this! I’m the queen of Um um um. Working on breaking it though. I talk out loud to myself in the car to try and learn to keep things smooth. I have a way to go. I also try to not get all tripped up if I mess up while recording. That’s what the cut is for in the first edit! Much thanks to you and all the over 50 women out there for the inspiration! Who of us genx women ever could have dreamed we would be making videos that could reach anyone on the planet in 2024? Flying cars yes! Videos? Never would have dreamed of it 😂
I agree as I’m an ‘ Um ‘ person…I have a piece of paper stating “ No Ums!” as I say more of them when I’m nervous….🙄
You practice in your car? You earned yourself a subscriber for that one 🙂
@@DianeMoore awww thanks! I'm even starting to listen to myself. 🤣
@@SoloSecondHalfjust subscribed to your channel!
@ thank you❤️
You rock. Love this. As a Gen-xer raised on home video cameras, I love your advice! Thank you.
Ha! Good point
Thanks Diane. I’m a beginner. Your suggestions are really helpful.
So glad they're helpful for you, Sandy :)
So much good advice
Hope it helps, Vickie!
Gen Xers for the win! I have just started a channel and your advice is invaluable - thank you! 😀
That’s fantastic, Mandy! So glad it’s helpful for you 💥
Your a pro! Such great speaking, video quality, and audio quality. Such helpful tips too!
Hey, thanks! Glad it's helpful for you!
You made me laugh at the beginning of this video, you made sense with everything. My channel will come next year, I'm practicing. Well done Diane.
2025 will be a great year! :)
@ Hi Diana, with creating a UA-cam channel. do you think it’s better to create a personal gmail account, or select the business gmail? I’ve seen different content creators say different things about it. What’s your opinion please.
You are very helpful. 😊
Hope so!
Omg… the deer in the headlights 🤣🤣when I go to edit my videos, that’s how I see myself!! I laughed so hard!!
ha! gotta break out of that!
Great video Diane! Thank you 😊
Hope you found it helpful!
@ I did 😁
Thankyou I seriously needed this pep talk..❤
Oh, I'm always glad to pep talk!
Great video! 👍
Appreciate that, Diane!
Thank you!! Great advice. Yes, the editing is the next challenge...arghh! I literally rather not edit😂. Thx so much
It's not nearly as bad as I thought it might be. Check my editing video... might have some good tips.
Practice…note to self. 😊
☑️☑️ Thank you❤
Great ideas, Diane. I love the suggestion that it is so important to be comfortable. This video has been so helpful!
Glad it was helpful for you, Susan!
Came across your channel today. It's good to listen you
Thanks!
You have the best tips and are such a natural. You are the best at teaching with a bit of humor. Happy holidays!
That’s kind, Beth. Thank you
Another helpful video! I have someone that I'm forwarding this to.
Hey thanks!
Your channel is great and you are so entertaining and encouraging. I love subbing and commenting on relatively new channels to help boost their community and their comment section. ❤
Well, that's kind of you. Hope it's helpful info for you!
That is incredible! My channel is faceless because I take bible studies and prophetic dreams and make them into movies. No one ever comments back on them and I think it's because they feel like it would be making positive comment to Siri or Alexa - good job Alexa, I enjoyed that video.. hahaha! The struggle is real.
Diane, it is so refreshing to come across you! Gen X/Y here. Thank you for this :)
You're quite welcome, Jason. Hope it helps!
Great tips Diane, really enjoy your videos! I’m another proud Gen X’er and wanting to take the UA-cam plunge, so I really appreciate the coaching content you post 😊 Thank you!
Thanks! Hope it helps! 💥
Love your content. Thank you!
Hope it helps!
Thanks! Great Info.
Great! Hope it helps, Pamela
Great advice Diane, thanks!
Hope it helps as you reinvent!
@DianeMoore You made some really good points, that I will action. I just need to be consistently posting. Thanks again.
Love the channel new family member❤
Very glad to have you on board!
Great ideas Diane nice meeting you! How I feel daily...
Hope some of the ideas can help
@@DianeMoore absolutely I can relate to you much better.
Good suggestions. I haven't tried the rear facing camera yet. Practice makes a huge difference.
It truly does!
Thank you ❤
Thanks Diane!! Appreciate the help 😊❤️
You bet! 💥
Great tips, well-presented and acted out! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
You are so encouraging!!
Hope so!
Always helpful. Thanks Diane. 😊
You’re very welcome, Dawn!
I’m brand new at starting a channel and only have a phone to post videos to UA-cam. From what I understand, there are limitations when posting from a phone versus with a laptop, and more options that are available with a laptop. Is that true? If I’m posting from my phone using UA-cam studio, am I able to post longer videos of say 15 minutes, or am I limited to just shorts or things under 5 minutes?
As far as I know, you can basically do the same things via the studio app. And you always have the option of logging into the studio via the browser on your phone too. Then I think it would mimic it pretty much exactly.
Great tips, Diane! I just launched my UA-cam channel this week and these tips are really helpful. From a fellow Gen-Xer, keep up the great work!
Way to go with launching!
hello Diane I am the first person you described. 💕NonnaGrace 🐓
oh no - that forgetting what we're saying is tough! :)
Love
Even when u tried to model speaking in a monotone you couldn’t do it. lol. Good tips. Well done. Thanks.
Ha! I thought the same thing while I was editing. :)
You are so compelling, I’m trying to let you talk me into doing a channel 💙
Well I’ll keep trying!
a gardener channel I watch has the best online persona I've seen. "no till growers"
You don’t look away more than I do. I look away to keep my train of thought. I cannot always be looking into the camera. The problem is I look at myself sometimes, instead of looking into the camera.
Yeah, I'm glad I don't have that option using the rear camera on my phone.
Diane, I’ve been a YT consumer since… I guess, the beginning. And after coming across your profile recently (and a handful of other 50-yo creators), I’ve decided to take the plunge with my own content/channel. Thanks for the information and inspiration-signed, JB (Gen X - LVL 52).
That's awesome, JB!
I feel attacked 😂😂😂😂 Thank you for another great video Diane.
Haaaaaa!
Great advice about thinking about one person that will be helped by my content. When I started my pain management channel in 9/24 I aimed for authenticity - my authentic self has a raspy voice that sometimes mispronounces words. Also, I have a droopy eye that resulted from surgery that went wrong. Thinking of the one person I’m helping motivates me to show up at 72 & practice the “spirituality of imperfection” - citing the right research but sometimes stumbling over words.
So glad you’re pressing on! I’m sure you’ll be helping more than one!
Do you have video on equipment from lighting, camera, computer, software?
A lot of that is covered in my Simple Setup video. Hope that helps!
