I’m 43 and just started my channel. I’m so nervous that someone is going to hear me talking to my phone and think I’m a weirdo. Ugh I wish I didn’t care lol. But I’m getting better than I was 10 days ago!
Hello! I’m Brazilian and recently started posting on UA-cam. I’m 50 years old and was so excited to discover your channel! It renewed my hope that there’s a wonderful audience out there for people over 50. Haha! I’ve already subscribed to your channel and turned on all notifications so I can keep supporting and following your success. For all of us new UA-camrs, I pray that our channels grow so successful that we can make a living from them. May we be blessed with creativity, effective strategies, and the resources needed to create amazing content. Amen 🙏
Hi again Diane. You, my dear, are a natural on camera. Love your videos. I need to improve these skills desperately.🙄 Good points you make…I’ll keep trying. ~ Carol 🙏
Excellent tips Diane. And the best one is not enumerated but you express it near the end of the video ... focus on helping the viewer, _NOT_ on making a video that will boost your channel, etc., etc. Don't make videos just for the sake of making a video, publishing consistently; and all those other supposed UA-cam "Imperatives". If you have something to convey that will help the viewer, make the video. Otherwise, there is always cross-stitching ...
I like the idea of recording and keeping your practice runs. Later on, once you have an endearing following, you can use old footage as comedy relief content. One style some creaters use is to always tack on bloopers and obvious awkward moments at the end...it keeps the watchers hanging onto the end when they expect that type of "bonus" footage
The first time I had to give a speech, I put a stuffed animal in front of me and pretended it was my sister 😂 I know it sounds silly, but it worked. Maybe it'll help you ❤
Gen Xer here. Definitely an introvert extrovert that get's stuck all the time on camera. I love all of your points and I took some notes to help. Thanks so much!
Wow! I saw your latest video and I believe a post asking what we would like you to cover (what we need to work on) and then I found this video. This is exactly what I was looking for. I have a 9-5 job working from home and talk on camera for the job constantly, but for some reason, when it’s for my own videos, I just can’t figure it out! If you’re still looking for content recommendations-this one right here is what I’m looking for. Thanks! 😊fellow gen x’er.
Hi Diane! I am 63 and yes, I agree --- no one is ever too old to be a content creator on UA-cam. I am so amazed at how you have truly tapped into a market that needs the authentic and sincere help that you offer and I am so happy to have found your channel! Wow! Wohoo! I had to subscribe because you know what sets you apart? You are so you! You are so personable and really come across as genuinely wanted to inspire others to get on the UA-cam wagon and soar! Congratulations on such a successful channel. Much love from Vancouver! (BTW, this weekend is crazy! Taylor Swift ends her Eras Tour this weekend : 3 straight nights beginning tonight at BC Place stadium!)
I like your speaking pace. Not too fast but not too slow either. Also, your video length is great. Anything over 15 min, is harder to watch because too long for most channels. I’m 47 for reference.
This is a very helpful video. The part that I find more challenging with my UA-cam is actually talking. I communicate better in writing than in speaking, I've always been like that. Also, Eglish is my second language, but still I wont give up, I believe that with time and practice it will feel more natural.
So my plan with youtube is to do the opposite from all of these young and good looking, fast talkers. I'm probably going to keep my mouth shut for some time, but I think you're doing a good job, and sharing great content, Thanks!
Thank You Diane! I'm sharing your videos with my group. You have an incredible presence on camera and provide much needed support to help our generation get their wisdom out there. I just found you about a month ago and I'm a fan! ❤️
Diane I feel a lot better about the last three videos I made, thank you. I made them with a title yet without a script. When I watch back I could edit out the um’s and the occasional teary eyes. All that aside, its videos like this that encourage us to keep going 🙏🏻 🥰 xx
Thanks! Happy to hear what you have to say about how strange it is to talk to my phone's camera. I am just dipping my toes into creating content and this is what I need as my voice comes across so quiet and meak because I do not have confidence doing this yet.
Thanks for this! I’m the queen of Um um um. Working on breaking it though. I talk out loud to myself in the car to try and learn to keep things smooth. I have a way to go. I also try to not get all tripped up if I mess up while recording. That’s what the cut is for in the first edit! Much thanks to you and all the over 50 women out there for the inspiration! Who of us genx women ever could have dreamed we would be making videos that could reach anyone on the planet in 2024? Flying cars yes! Videos? Never would have dreamed of it 😂
Great tips Diane, really enjoy your videos! I’m another proud Gen X’er and wanting to take the UA-cam plunge, so I really appreciate the coaching content you post 😊 Thank you!
Such useful information. I just turned 61 and have had my channel for years, but I mostly post unlisted videos that I share with family. I've been planning to become more active on my channel and your tips are very helpful.
Was a photographer for 15 years... I've avoided the camera for a reason. haha. I'm still in the SO awkward stage. Finding my 'voice' has been the hardest issue. I am excellent at writing the scripts, organizing them into bullet points, but I still sound like I'm reading word for word. Thanks for the tips!
@ Hi Diana, with creating a UA-cam channel. do you think it’s better to create a personal gmail account, or select the business gmail? I’ve seen different content creators say different things about it. What’s your opinion please.
Diane, I’ve been a YT consumer since… I guess, the beginning. And after coming across your profile recently (and a handful of other 50-yo creators), I’ve decided to take the plunge with my own content/channel. Thanks for the information and inspiration-signed, JB (Gen X - LVL 52).
This is helpful, Diane! (As are all of your videos). Thank you so much. As a new UA-camr I love that you are sharing such practical and useful advice. And the fact that you are so relatable is a bonus. Wishing you (and all your viewers) much happiness on the journey. 🩷
Thanks for a very helpful video. I made four videos two years ago but because they were so cringy I gave up. 😬 I’d love to get back into it… Tomorrow will be the day (but at this point ‘tomorrow’ still hasn’t happened)
Diane is great. I hear you about about the videos. But just keep trying. I started with shorts and I also listen to Think Media which has some helpful tips and information about starting out on UA-cam. I hope this helps. Take care and I wish you well.
I am out of your target audience age range ….. but I don’t care cause I’m getting super good information from you. I just started my channel about a month ago actually channels there are several and I am turning 76 next week but thank you thank you thank you for all the great information.

Great advice about thinking about one person that will be helped by my content. When I started my pain management channel in 9/24 I aimed for authenticity - my authentic self has a raspy voice that sometimes mispronounces words. Also, I have a droopy eye that resulted from surgery that went wrong. Thinking of the one person I’m helping motivates me to show up at 72 & practice the “spirituality of imperfection” - citing the right research but sometimes stumbling over words.
I’m brand new at starting a channel and only have a phone to post videos to UA-cam. From what I understand, there are limitations when posting from a phone versus with a laptop, and more options that are available with a laptop. Is that true? If I’m posting from my phone using UA-cam studio, am I able to post longer videos of say 15 minutes, or am I limited to just shorts or things under 5 minutes?
As far as I know, you can basically do the same things via the studio app. And you always have the option of logging into the studio via the browser on your phone too. Then I think it would mimic it pretty much exactly.
Wouldn't an "early boomer" mean someone born at the beginning of the baby boom? I was born in '61, so I always thought i was considered a "late boomer".
Oh my gosh! I do so many of those things you talk about! Thanks for the hints... I want to get better. Super helpful, Diane!
You can do it! 💥
You’re blazing the trail. I started my channel 3 months ago at 80 years old. I’m doing pretty good. Love your channel. Old Mike
That's fantastic, Mike!

Haha I don’t even like seeing myself on FaceTime talking to family 😅
I usually point the camera to the ceiling 😊
Ha - that’s intense
your videos are so great❤

My blooper reels would be twice the length of my videos :)
57 to introvert here, have trouble talking to people but this camera lense is worse for some reason
I feel the same. I am just hoping to get better with time. Keep trying!
Hmm - not sure what to suggest, hope that practice makes this easier over time for you, Pops!

The first time I had to give a speech, I put a stuffed animal in front of me and pretended it was my sister 😂

Yes, energy and being animated is a good idea.

Brilliant video Diane. I’m loving your work. You’re right, there’s not enough YT videos for over 50’s. X

@@DianeMoore Yay thank you, Diane! :) Love your channel!

Your a pro! Such great speaking, video quality, and audio quality. Such helpful tips too!
Hey, thanks! Glad it's helpful for you!
Great tips on how to look at the process of recording. I feel more confortable and confident already,
Wonderful, Anna!
Comfort while recording is a great goal. I really appreciate your videos.
Comfort is way better than "confidence" every time.
I figured the recording in segments eventually. Especially if your topic is educational! Chitchating is much easier to do without editing! Thank You!
I like your speaking pace. Not too fast but not too slow either. Also, your video length is great. Anything over 15 min, is harder to watch because too long for most channels. I’m 47 for reference.

Really good content, my highlight: be comfortable instead of confident. Thanks 👏💐

Good suggestions. I haven't tried the rear facing camera yet. Practice makes a huge difference.
It truly does!

The timing on this could not have been better. I, literally, just finished my first practice video with editing.
