Part of the problem for me is narrowing down to picking one. I Upcycle clothing from antique linens, I decorate on a dime by thrifting, I own a hair Salon and I am also an Artist with a small studio in my yard… Eeny Meeny, Miny Moe! Lol
I love You Tube University. You need help? There's a video out there. Need to vent? Create a video. I'm coming up on retirement here soon. Looking for something to do but not hurt myself doing it. Manufacturing and distribution warehouse work has taken it's toll on my body. I love my job. Great pay but management has to make things soooooooooo difficult. My put up & shut up is about done flushing down the drain. I've thought about starting a channel about nothing (Ala Seinfeld). It's the tech side that I will struggle with. But then......there's You Tube University.......
Hi Diane! Loved to hear your thoughts and I subscribed! I've thought for years about starting a channel but I have many diverse ideas, so stagnation is all I've accomplished. Is it crazy to think about starting more than one channel instead of multiple things on one channel? I seem to spend more time thinking about all this instead of actually DOING anything! 😖Anyway, I thought maybe this might be something interesting for you to consider talking about.
@@MermaidmomUP did you know that on your channel you can create playlists? Perhaps start one channel and create playlists for your different areas of interest?
From a girl in her mid-20s, if you are in your 50s, 60s or even 70s please don’t shy away from creating and posting! Ya’ll are much cooler than you give yourselves credit for and many people my age would benefit from sharing your part of the world.
Suggestion .. if anyone does not care to show "their face" ... I enjoy many that simply show their hands "doing; fixing; making" something. Cooking, repairs, cleaning, crafts.
I do Zentangle (a meditative art form). I’ve thought about trying to teach here in YT, but I’m AWFUL with caring for my fingernails! Even just showing my hands is an issue for me. LOL. I have finally sorted out using my phone as a document camera, though. So I’m one step closer to doing that! Baby steps. :)
@DawnDavidson I would watch this. I love new ways of meditating especially involving using your hands. I would not even notice or worry about your fingernail.
Some of my favorite channels are ones I just listened to like a radio program. If the narrative or text is good one almost doesn't need to see any video. For outdoor projects where the microphone can have difficulty, I like videos that are voiceovers describing what's going on in the video including explaining what one might do differently the next time.
@@DawnDavidsonWould wearing latex gloves help you with that? It would look like you were protecting your hands from paint when you’re using them as a mask.
I’m thinking of starting a channel to document cleaning my mother’s house. I’ve cared for her the last 6-7 years and she just passed a few days ago. Her 88th birthday is next week. She was a “collector” of things and it’s a LOT.
So sorry for your loss. I think having a channel like that sounds great. Also we don't talk about how the "cleaning up" when someone dies is an essential part of the grief process. Go for it!
I’m a professional housekeeper and I’ve often considered starting a UA-cam channel because so many of my clients don’t know how to make a bed or properly clean their toilet or clean their blinds or organized their stuff…. There are lots of things that people never learn because they were never taught and now they are in a position where they have to get a housekeeper which is great for me, but I would love to empower people to master those skills themselves if they want.
It sounds like a great idea! I've read many books including Kondo's Magic of Tidying - and I'm still trying to figure out organizing after a recent move. Need to further get rid of the stuff that made it past this initial cuts!
It could have a title like “What your parents should have taught you, but didn’t”. You could do videos on laundry, organization, ironing (does anyone do that anymore?), how to properly clean/sanitize countertops or clean dishes without a dishwasher - amazing how many don’t know the correct way.
Yeah, I like hearing from young people on YT but I do wish there were more older people. I'm just 42 but I have a disability which makes me feel much older. I definitely feel invisible.
I'm also 55, and my life changed when I became a widow at 52. I've since discovered a new passion for solo travel; so much so that I decided to become a travel agent. I was on the fence with starting a UA-cam channel for my new business and hesitated for a while because of my lack of knowledge of technology and social media in general. I've since taken the plunge. I decided to make simple, one-shot videos and not worry about editing and making them all 'fancy' like others I see. I'm getting more and more comfortable being in front of the camera and, just like you said, it's a huge confidence booster. I may never become the biggest channel or even make money from it, but UA-cam is giving me more than I ever expected. I do it for nothing more than 'ME'...another reason to be proud of myself for overcoming a devastating loss and recreating my life to become a 'brand new me.'
I just went and subscribed, Teena! I’m really sorry for your loss but am glad that you’re moving ahead with a channel. Great approach with keeping things simple - we grow as we go! 💥
When I was 70, UA-cam taught me to knit! I'd never had anyone to teach me what all the abbreviations meant and how to do them. Through UA-cam I found new techniques and equipment to make my new hobby a joy. I follow knitting podcasters and share in their experiences and trips to yarn shows, virtually.
My car needed plugs, and I couldn't pay a fortune, so I did it myself after looking on UA-cam. I have also worked on my washer and dryer thanks to UA-cam. Saved me money.
I have NO IDEA HOW this video ended up in my suggestions feed. But I’m glad it did. This was SO relatable for me and encouraging and inspiring. So thank you for that. I am planning to seriously consider this.
The same thing happened to me. I was surprised this showed up in my feed too. But , now I am thinking there is something to it. I may take this as a sign. Thank everyone for sharing their experience.❤
Ditto!! i'm a 65 year old single woman who uses youtube university to fix things. the hip replacement channel helped me and i do think the "invisible" older person has waaaaay more wisdom than the 20 somethings out there.
If I make it to September 2025 I'll be 80 also. The time is NOW. The knowledge, experience, and, yes, wisdom that folks our age have acquired over all thosee years is worth a lot ... even if only grandchildren watch.
Starting my UA-cam channel was the best decision I ever made!!! I found my passion in wanting to help women be confident and love themselves.. but to be honest.. they have helped me way more than I have helped them! New Subscriber!!!
@@Cindybin46 conservative videos come into my feed all the time. Did they say what the problem was? Is there something else you can talk about? I actually found that taking a break from politics was helpful for me. 🫶
I'm a 67 year old woman been a painting contractor for over 45 years I'm still painting smaller projects by choice i have so much to share maybe I will do it here on UA-cam thanks for sharing your wisdom 😊
I'm 64. I started a channel for the fun of it and decided I might be able to help others who were beginners at crochet with easy tutorials. Then I started travelling and did videos to show my holidays. Then I got a puppy so just had to make videos of her too!! Now I do knitting and have done simple tutorials and a knit-a-long! I don't get many views but I'm enjoying myself and feel like my subscribers are my friends! 😊
@@CuriousMoonDesign hi. I already knit for a store and make lots of other things! I'm going to be travelling again in my little caravan. I'll make videos about that too! 🥰
In 2011, I stopped attending my Uni classes (I was in my 4th Year) and just went to the internet cafes to learn how to sew on UA-cam. I dropped out a term shy from graduation, went home, started a tailoring shop. This is still my source of income until now.
That is badass. Good for you! I wish when I was in my 20s I had the courage to follow my heart - even if it meant not completing (my now useless) degree.
@@AskPiaAkashic i was 21 then and had zero support from my family they could only give me money if i went back to finish my studies. So i bootstrapped my way up. It was not very easy. You can always start to do the things you love anytime you want 🩷
I went through childhood trauma. I have had complex PTSD. My trauma therapist is thankful I survived because not all do. I have been thinking of starting a channel to help others. That is a fear I need to get through in order to do so. This video is nudging me.
You will always feel fear. Every successful person feels the fear (listen to Brene Brown sometime) Just do it. Be bold be brave. The right people will gravitate to you. ❤
You don't know how much this video means to me. I was in tears today because I was so frustrated trying to make a new video after years. I have 3 sons in college and one in basic training now and youtube is a great distraction but I could never get enough subscribers but that should not deter me. Thanks for the encouragement!!! Love your videos

Dianne, thank you for your encouragement on starting a UA-cam channel. I'm 58 and have a daughter who is on the autism spectrum. She is 20 and struggles to fit in with society's expectations. It dramatically affects her social life, and I want her to be happy and self-reliant. My wife recently passed away after fighting cancer for sixteen years. My daughter's connection to her mother was strong, and my connection to my daughter is strengthening. I am not writing this to get sympathy. It's just that I would like to share our struggles and victories with autism, and I think that by having a channel and recording our experiences would be a great way to see how our relationship grows. It may also help someone else who's struggling with a similar situation. Thank you again for your encouragement.
Yes, that's definetely a great idea! You could also look up other channels by autistic people or their family members, I am subscribed to a couple of them, that way you could connect with people who might understood you and your daughter better and you both could make friends. 💜
Hi! I’m also a parent of an adult with autism. I used to blog about our family’s experiences but I stopped after giving it a lot of thought. Although my motivation was the same as yours-helping others-I realized that my son was incapable of giving his consent for me to share his images and details about his personal life. It was my choice to blog about us, not his. If your daughter is capable of giving consent, that’s great! I respectfully suggest that you reconsider the idea of a UA-cam channel if she isn’t. Best wishes to you and your family. 💐
@quietspaces632 Does your daughter have something she is good at, something she is passionate about? My granddaughter is on the spectrum. She's brilliant at making cosplay costumes and used to make videos about them. It's given her a lot of confidence and she has a small circle of like minded friends. She now turns her artwork into stickers and sells them online and, with the help of a friend, sells them at cosplay events.
When my family experienced a major health crisis and needed meals prepared from scratch with limited ingredients, we turned to UA-cam. Not one of us thought we’d ever be dependent on this level of culinary skill and had no interest in cultivating it until our lives depended on it. The creators were so generous with their knowledge and insight that it legitimately saved us. I’m older, and I remember a time when cooking secrets were fiercely guarded. Aunt Sue might share a recipe, but it would be altered to ensure the result would be less than stellar, thereby protecting Aunt Sue’s status as the family’s top chef. Thank you for creating this channel. You are right. 💙
@@DianeMoore Thank you the encouragement! I’m working up to building a channel around a mostly DIY, full-gut renovation of a small cottage. Because I’m old enough to know me, I’m going to stack up a few “extra” videos to cover my down time when I over-do it. Maybe those will be my favorite cooking hacks for good eating when I’m too tired to cook? Ha! I enjoy your content. We’re at similar points in our lives, so much of what you talk about resonates with me. Keep up the great work!
I never really understood why people do that. The whole "tribal knowledge" thing. I mean, so what? Maybe someone else will get it to turn out just as good, but they probably won't. Why? Because they don't have a "feel" for it yet. It takes years of practice to get your groove in cooking. Or, for that matter, for just about anything. You can get technical points perfect, right off the bat. But it takes passion and practice to develop true technique.
@@karynstouffer3562 It comes from a time when women were primarily valued for their culinary/homemaking skills. It was what women traded for safety and security, so it was fiercely protected. You might be “fired” if you lost your edge. I understand it, and I’m glad we’ve steered away from it.
Great message, Diane! I am 76, and I started a UA-cam channel six months ago. I’m a big believer that we should all share our talents with one another. It makes the world a better place.
Great video. I am 70 and bought a fixer ranch. You tube helped me fix so many things. I started channel about Montessori and Indigenous people. This is something ive been obsessed with. Narrow topic but i love talking about it. Hope your surgery went well
@sarastilson8669 It would be great if you made a channel about fixing your ranch. I'd totally watch that! I want to buy a ranch one day and it would be great to see what types of things you're dealing with on the ranch.
I'm a retired teacher. It's a miracle I lasted 25 years in the profession! Much of what I'd have to say about teaching is negative. Sample video titles might be: principals from hell, policies from hell, curriculum from hell, facilities from hell, parents from hell, students from hell, coworkers from hell, etc.!!! It might be cathartic for me, but I doubt it would be very well received! LOL
I have two channels set up: Crow Quill Tarot and A Painterly Home. One has 28 videos so far, one has none yet, but a link to my blog (a journal.) I have so many ideas for both. I'm having all manner of troubles, namely health issues that have kept me from being consistent, and I don't have any technical skills. I will not give up. I'm 70, live quite isolated and long for connection, and have many interests to share. And YOU have been so encouraging today. THANK YOU.
I hope you're encouraged to keep going! Maybe just stick with one for awhile? I would think that two might get hard to keep consistent with.... but certainly try some different things to see what works!
I'm 50 years old, and this year (2024) I decided to start my own UA-cam channel to support my study journal and share my journey with others. It's not too late to open a UA-cam channel, and it's definitely not too late to continue studying. It's never too late to take that leap and create something valuable for yourself and your audience!
I keep toying with UA-cam…. Was fairly diligent with posting, it kept shifting. Then life shifted (spent the better part of this year so far downsizing and learning to empty nest) and posting videos definitely went to the back burner. You’ve convinced me to get back to this. Thank you!
I came to say what ☝️ said. Ive watched several people on UA-cam go over down sizing and their approach. I like getting different perspectives. Good luck ❤
Love this! You are talking to me! I am almost 73 and I made a video a few weeks ago that I thought I might put on UA-cam. I really want to sort of give my kids something to look at after I go to the other side which hopefully won’t be for another 20 years or so, but who knows. Anyway, I am an artist and a crafter and, I have an Etsy shop and I keep super busy and I have loads of fun doing all this stuff. I thought it might be fun to share it. I’m a little intimidated by having to get the camera in the right spot, but I did buy a ring light that holds a cell phone so I guess that’s a start. Thank you for this. I have subscribed to your channel!
Hey! We share a name & our age! I’m in the same spot as you re: toying with doing this & for some of the same reasons (like leaving stuff as a legacy). Best wishes!
You don't have to her behind the camera or even talk. There are plenty who just shoot video of what they are doing w music in the background. It seems as though a utube video could be thought of as a blank canvas.
Good for you. I am usually a very courageous lady, your age, but somehow, the idea of doing a yt video fills me with horror! I would love to share my life lessons, insights, etc with others but the thought of it.... ouch!!!!
I’ve been on the fence for a while, and even commented on videos similar to yours about almost mustering the courage to get started. But I end up doing nothing. The reasons are too many to list. I have videos I’ve created before but have never published. Today I finally created a channel and will begin posting soon.
I’m thrilled that you posted this! You’ll always have reasons not to, but the reasons to do it are better…. Even if it takes awhile to get traction. You’re getting better at it each time you post. 🔥 Feel free to drop the channel name here - I’d love to subscribe!
@@joysachs9032you can always turn comments off or filter them. Just try it once and I know you'll be hooked. It's not all about the views and how many subscribers you get, it's about actually learning new skills , new hobbies and enjoying the process. Good luck 💕
Love this info. Just start. I've been fighting imposter syndrome, but this was my sign to get over it, put my face on my channel and actually say the things. Thanks!
I'm so curious how many subs you had when you posted this, because this video took off! Congratulations! I love it so much!! I started out with backpacking content, and I have expanded more and more to broader outdoors subjects, and I may even go wider than that. I agree that people would be surprised what people would love to see them share!!
I’m a new subscriber and 68 years young. Several of my wonderful friends are in their 70s. They would surely appreciate what you have to say. I’ve considered starting a UA-cam channel. I will tell people about your channel. I like what you’ve said. Thank you! Pam from Chicago 😀
I started a blog but I didn't make it public 😬) and then started to play with the idea of having a UA-cam channel for very long time... Fear is one of the main barriers we have to overcome, thank you for your encouragement!
What an encouraging video! I've been working on this for 3 years and not monetized yet but hopefully next year I can make that happen 😊 with your 23k now, I'm assuming your monetized now! Congratulations 🎉
I very much appreciate your channel. I was not doing that, but I watched your video, and I decided to give a chance and began with videos that probably only showed half of my face. After that looking at your videos, I began talking a little bit and I hope I will build more confidence. I like to search about psychology, cooking, gardening and how to build up a channel on UA-cam.
Thanks Diane. I'm a solo 61 year old woman and so happy I've found your channel. Thanks for sharing your experience. Makes me feel homely and no so alone.
You're 55. I could be your mother! You showed up in my feed, so I thought I would take a peek. I have immediately learned that our age difference, and probably our different circumstances, will cause me to move on. But I applaud your courage in stepping out and giving this a try. Good luck to you, and God bless.
You’d be surprised at how many people view that as a ‘feature’. When I was an artist, people complimenting my work would often say, “I wish I could paint, but I can’t draw a straight line!” Well, you know what? No one wants a straight line. A ruler can do that. A computer can do that. A PERSON offers the beautiful flaws we all admire. It’s the unapologetic baring of your innate inconsistency that people admire. Consider your on-camera time as a chat with an old friend and your light will shine through. It’s valued more than you think. Do you prefer content like this channel, or do you gravitate to polished, corporate training-type instructional videos? Right?! Same, here. I prefer regular folk sharing because it’s comfortable and comforting to learn from people’s lived experience.
Thank you for the advice! I’ll be incorporating this into my channel. I’m currently in the process of growing my channel and figuring out how to grow and serve my audience.
We first looked at UA-cam (not the paid UA-cam) about six years ago when we retired and quit cable tv. Now it’s where I go daily for entertainment and information. I’ve pondered creating content for our kids and grandkids when we are traveling in the rv but still on the fence. The points you are making are very good food for thought. Thank you and God bless you.
I know a librarian and her husband (both in their 60s or 70s) who travel A LOT. They've been to every state at least twice, including Hawaii. Alaska just the once so far. It's fascinating listening to their stories, the places they've been, things they've seen, mishaps on the road...I'll probably never be as blessed as they are in that regard so it's nice to travel vicariously through them.
Thank you for sharing you are an inspiration .I love the comment that you forgot to use your microphone. It made me chuckle and feel more relaxed about considering a UA-cam channel for myself.
I agree with so much of this. I think if you keep posting (which I need to do more of) your YT audience will always find you. My channel is summaries of personal development books. This is a good kick in the butt for me to get back to it. Thanks
Once again, you have inspired me tremendously! Thanks so much! 🥰 I’ve been greatly encouraged by so many, and created this my channel a week ago. Only did some shorts but will climb up from there. Keep going lovely lady! What you had to say was addicting to watch and this is my second time viewing your channel in a row! New subscriber here! 🥰 You are making great waves! ❤
I am 51 and just started my UA-cam channel to talk about my healing journey and the book I wrote to process it. And it is exactly like you say, it firstly helped me and then the one thing through my mind is that MY STORY CAN BE SOMEONE ESLE'S SURVIVAL GUIDE ❤ thank you for this 🙏🏼
It must be fate that I found you. I needed to hear what you had to say, I love that you look at the camera and hence I feel like you are talking to me instead of watching yourself! Everything you said is true and I'm trying to work up the nerve to start. I'm 60, letting what I look like, worried about old friends finding me and feeling embarrassed and not being able to push the start button. You hit everything! I subscribed just to see what else you have to say. Thanks so much for sharing, and WHEN I get up the nerve to post my first video I'll be sure to give you the credit you deserve.😊
I'm so glad to be connected! Oh I hope that nerve gets worked up soon - what you have to share is way more valuable than the worry that's keeping you from it. You can do it!
You should be Commission for the items you recommended on Amazon. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who purchase the items you recommended when going thru neck surgery. On the side note you should start a series of recommended youtube channels that you use for "do it yourself" you're a great promoter!
Same here: wanting to know specific DIY how-to's for things to do around the house, incl woodworking matters, and then I taught myself to weld, and never looking back. Will launch mine soon.
Not sure how I got here but here I am. I'm 56 and just started a new crafting hobby. I don't have enough experience to really share but I think I might anyway. Then I can see my improvements over time, just as you mentioned. Thanks for the inspiration.
Just subscribed! UA-cam algorithms brought your channel to my attention as apparently the robots have finally figured out that smaller UA-camrs are my new rockstars. I have and embryonic channel myself and am still figuring out what my “niche” will be. Just enjoying a bit of community for now…..
Ah you’re sooo right! I hope people here really do share their wisdom via UA-cam, because I’ve started having a bit of a mind shift after watching women talk about their life experiences often in regards to relationships and dating as well as other topics, and I’ve come to think of these women as “big sisters” sharing their life advice with me. It’s been incredible to see things from other peoples perspectives I’ve never heard before and quite mind blowing. So things that might be obvious to you, might not be obvious to others and it could really help people! Thank you for posting this, hopefully people get inspired!
You are the second video that has popped up after reading my mind about how I feel being over 45 and starting a channel. Thanks for your insight. I’m here for it! 😊
This showed up on my feed at a perfect time. I'm 70 yrs and looking for an opportunity for extra income and personal growth. I have not found an opportunity in my community where i can use my skills , experience and knowledge. I am not looking for a career. This seems perfect. Thank you so very much for the inspiration😊❤🎉
I appreciate you, your encouragement and your inspiration. I recently "revived" my channel and have been finding inspiration from creators like you. I'm 58 and trying different topics as well, but truly believe we ARE the niche due to our life experiences. As for the negative comments, I was worried about those to, but another creator, New Era Adventures, gave me some great advice. He said think about and digest them before taking action. Since I've been doing that, I've not deleted one nor have I argued with the commenters. I thank them for their input and ask for additional feedback, unless of course they're downright antagonist. Thanks again for creating this video.
Sharing and learning: it’s a sad thing to realise that although an octopus is super intelligent, they are not especially sociable and tend to live their whole lives alone, and have to learn all they learn and know for themselves. Which is worth thinking about, and rather sad. Especially that they don’t know humans eat them!
I have had a UA-cam channel for about 9 years. It has been a great way to keep a record of things me and my family have done. It is a hodgepodge of shorts and long form videos - reviews, travels and family fun. I am starting a 2nd channel focusing on travel, but my first channel will always be my hobby and for fun.
Hello Diane. Thank you for this video. I find it very encouraging to hear you say all this because these are the exact reasons that I just started my own UA-cam channel. Like you I would love to gain an audience and possibly get monetize one day but for now it's just a great outlet for me to talk about the things I don't really have people in my life to talk about with. And I'm also hoping to help people that have the same rare condition that I have. Wish me luck. I'll be watching. 😁
Glad you’ve gotten started. And I think your account name here says it all. Pulling for you to find ways to be consistent in generating videos and posting! Your voice is needed! 🔥
Great video and very informative and inspiring for new businesses just getting started. You hit on many important points in this video that can be inspiring and reassuring for people just starting. More and more of the older generation are getting involved with UA-cam which is amazing, we all have some form of value to offer and benefit someone in one form or another, especially within older age groups. All the best!
Thank you! Lately, I've been seeing videos of a generation older than me more and more often, and I'm fascinated. So many different topics, people start learning something new in their 50s, 60s, even after 80s - it's amazing and gives hope. That life can be fascinating and interesting at any age, that curiosity does not disappear with a certain number on the birthday cake or after difficult turns of fate. Please keep doing it!
Just found your channel today. Loved the sound of your voice. So calming and encouraging. Would love to hear you play the piano. Keep making those videos. Piano playing, short story telling, how to starting a you tube channel, would love to hear what ever other hobbies you have. Thanks for having a channel!
I started my youtube channel to try to motivate people to do exercises by just watching my shorts training from Monday to Friday :) I wish more people practice any type of exercises since its the cheapest way to keep our health. If we do not get time for exercises we will have to take time to get doctors appointment and buy medice....
I started mine recently for me. To get over my self consciousness. Honestly, talking at a camera makes me cringe and takes so much time to get it together. So huge respect to everyone who gives this their best effort. You can guarantee your biggest critics will be people doing the least with their lives. Stay focused and positive and most of all, do it for you. At the very least you are learning new digital skills, so you keep doing you!
The worst videos of my own to watch were the early ones. In no small measure because I didn't know how my voice sounded to the rest of the world! In time I got used to it, and I am now also used to seeing my face on a thumbnail. The best part is the people who thank me for showing them how to use their equipment.
You’re so funny and nice to listen to. I totally agree that 50’s, 60s, 80s year olds have a lot of gems of advice to share. Experiences to share. I love listening to other people’s experiences. Generations can come together on utube.Diane Moore, you’re a natural public speaker.

I started in Covid but stopped once work picked back up but I am going to get back to it literally tomorrow hah I feel like I am exploding with things I want to share and I honestly don’t even care if no one watches, it’s almost more for me to go back to and remind myself of the life lessons I learned in crazy times of my life. Also- if you’re are in your older years- YES!! The world NEEDS your wisdom! Anyone who is older and is thinking about a UA-cam channel to share their life stories honestly please do it. I am 54 and I have a UA-cam channel but I haven't used it in a really long time because I wasn't sure what to do. I like your idea of trying a variety of things, because I have a lot of knowledge on different topics and I couldn't pick just one thing. Thank you for this.
Thank you! You are inspiring. I’ve subscribed to help you build your channel. I’ve wanted to start for the past 5 years, and have allowed many fears to stop me. I’m gonna listen to this one again and again. Best of luck to you!❤️❤️❤️
This is an awesome video! Thank you for sharing. These are some great ideas, thank you. I have a channel i’ve been working on for about a year. @@DianeMoore Yes this is the name of my channel. I look forward to more videos from you. I will be going back and visiting some of your old videos as well.✨
For as long as I’ve been watching UA-cam, and wanting to become a UA-camr and knowing that I would one day and yet not having actually posted a video, I have watched a lot of videos like yours. A lot of videos trying to motivate me to start a UA-cam channel. But none have done it quite like yours, on such the earthy level that you come to the situation from. Dope, Diane!! Thank you.
Thank you for posting this video. It’s hugely encouraging to hear these words, and it’s wonderful to read all the positive comments, and also realise that I’m not the only one who is more senior (50 years old next year), and wants to start/restart a UA-cam channel. Like many I began about 10 years ago, posted about a dozen or so video, created many more that ended up in the trash bin, and just lost enthusiasm. But I’m back trying to get going again, at a new stage of life, and I’m doing it as much for myself as well as to help others.
I'm so happy you did a UA-cam channel. I'm having acdf surgery on the front of my neck on the 23rd and then the next day PCDF surgery. I have found no videos on both together and very few on what you had done which I appreciated a lot and you're positive uptake of it. I'm thinking once I get through this I may post some videos too since I have seen no one that's had both done in 2 days. I just want to help people. Thanks for your videos
You absolutely should, Jan! And I bet you'll find some other stuff to talk about too, down the road. God bless you as you go through the surgeries. You'll be glad to get on the other side of them!
I hope your recovery is going well. If you have the energy, take iPhone video of your rehab. When you feel better you might edit it and add comments and post to UA-cam. People will want to see challenges you faced and coping techniques you discover that help you live daily life. Best wishes.
I started my channel 19 days ago and have put 30 videos on so far. Most are small but about outdoor subjects. I will need a winter time stay indoor type subject soon. As it turns out I am really gorgeous in a very funny looking way. Somehow, 67 years of age can really sell it for you. Thanks for your channel, see ya!
Thanks for the fantastic and detailed reminder! I’ve been on this UA-cam content creator journey since 2014 and actually a few years earlier. I’ve been through all those fears and concerns you mentioned. At the end of the day, it has been worth it simply to have a platform to share my boundless creativity. And yes I believe I’ve contributed to others’ lives along the way and I appreciate the personal journal element of it. Still going strong and I’ve never managed to monetize nor do I have any particular desire to.. it’s the journey ❤ All the best with your journey ❤ And for anyone on the fence, just go for it. Why the heck not?
I have wanted to start a UA-cam channel for years, but can't think of a subject to start it in. Diane, great video, I have watched a couple of your videos and subscribed. :)
Thanks so much! Don't worry about narrowing down yet, Lisa. Just think of a topic that you know you'll feel pretty comfortable talking about and just start! You can course correct as you go.
I am a 73rd old piano learner. I put up little youtubes of me playing short bits of hymns and folk tunes with countryside photos. I like doing it, have had about 600 views since I started a couple of months ago.
I am almost 54 and I’m so glad this video showed up on my feed for 2 reasons. 1st. I had an ACDF C6-7 last year. So it’s nice to see a channel for people with similar issues. 2nd I have been talking about starting at least 2 UA-cam channels. One to demonstrate doing crafts, which has been put in hold due to my neck rehabilitation which got further set back because I got rear ended and have had to start PT back from the beginning. Uggh!! The 2nd channel, well, once I create that one and get it rolling, I will let you in on what it is. I don’t want anyone nabbing my idea. Lol.
Hello, this came upon my feed, I am a Girl Dad of four adult amazing daughters, and I work with Fathers of Daughters aka Girl Dads. I Live Stream every week since 2023, and I am building my UA-cam Channel 100% organically. I'm beyond blessed because I am giving back to all Fathers of Daughters. Blessings
Hey! What topics would you talk about on a UA-cam channel? Or leave me your link if you already have one!
Part of the problem for me is narrowing down to picking one.
I Upcycle clothing from antique linens, I decorate on a dime by thrifting, I own a hair Salon and I am also an Artist with a small studio in my yard… Eeny Meeny, Miny Moe! Lol
Thanks Diane for allowing people to share their links!! I love it when other UA-cam channels support each other!!
Love hearing that - and hope lots of your peers feel that way too :)
What a really nice thing to post!

💯as a 22 year new creative I look forward to hearing advice from those wiser with more years of experience than me.💓
Yup🎉 agree subscribed
Suggestion .. if anyone does not care to show "their face" ... I enjoy many that simply show their hands "doing; fixing; making" something. Cooking, repairs, cleaning, crafts.
Excellent point!
Go for it!
My condolences to you and your family! 🤍🕊️I think that’d be a great series on your channel. And definitely cathartic. I love those kinds of videos!
So sorry for your loss. I think having a channel like that sounds great. Also we don't talk about how the "cleaning up" when someone dies is an essential part of the grief process. Go for it!
I'd watch ❤
I"m sorry for your loss. If it's not a burden for you to do so with all you'll already be dealing with, I say go for it!
I think that’s a great idea to start with 💥
Please do it! I’d definitely watch
You’d have your first subscriber right here! 🫶
The world definitely needs the wisdom of the 50’s to 60yo people. Instead of the 22yo pretending to know.
Yep! 💥
and they learn from books, I agree people need wisdom.
you hit it on the head
Yeah, I like hearing from young people on YT but I do wish there were more older people. I'm just 42 but I have a disability which makes me feel much older. I definitely feel invisible.
I completely agree with it. Wisdom comes with age and experience.
@@DianeMoore Awww...thank you Diane. I actually leave tomorrow for another cruise. I'm so excited. Keep watching for more content.
Good for you! I'm 60 and sitting on the fence.

❤
The "University of UA-cam," my first go-to-place for anything I need.
That's a great term for it!
Good name for it. Probably the most educational site there is, where people just share their gifts, knowledge, experience with the world.
" Even IF no one watches"

It's how I look at things.
I have NO IDEA HOW this video ended up in my suggestions feed. But I’m glad it did. This was SO relatable for me and encouraging and inspiring. So thank you for that. I am planning to seriously consider this.
Serious consideration is warranted, Sherry! :) Hope you'll do it

I totally agree! Was not expecting this and feel totally inspired to get moving on a channel I haven’t touched in seven years.
Great advice. I am 80 and I think a UA-cam adventure would be a challenge.
You never know until you try! :)
If I make it to September 2025 I'll be 80 also. The time is NOW. The knowledge, experience, and, yes, wisdom that folks our age have acquired over all thosee years is worth a lot ... even if only grandchildren watch.
I would watch !
Good idea! Create a channel with Grandma's advice!!!
Have you seen the 87 year old lady who does UA-cam videos. Her channel is Nanny and the Moose. You are never too old. Best wishes.

In 2011, I stopped attending my Uni classes (I was in my 4th Year) and just went to the internet cafes to learn how to sew on UA-cam. I dropped out a term shy from graduation, went home, started a tailoring shop. This is still my source of income until now.
Wow - what a great story!
@DianeMoore It's a testament to what you said about how one's video may be helpful to another 😊

That would be a great channel... ❤
@@Nurse_Kathy Thank you.

Great insight! Maybe the world needs YOUR cooking secrets in UA-cam 💥

LOL

Do you prefer content like this channel, or do you gravitate to polished, corporate training-type instructional videos? Right?! Same, here. I prefer regular folk sharing because it’s comfortable and comforting to learn from people’s lived experience.
@@surewhatever8843 I come from corporate America and honestly it makes me sick .
I have trouble with speech myself so I can’t sit and talk for even 3 minutes. So I speak one sentence at a time and edit them together.
Thank you for the advice! I’ll be incorporating this into my channel. I’m currently in the process of growing my channel and figuring out how to grow and serve my audience.
Wonderful! Glad it’s growing!
By sharing, our civilisation will skyrocket … many people would like to share but are too shy, kudos to you, and you are so right
Shyness gets us no where. I hope you’ll start a channel! 💥
I hope you’ll take the leap and start! 💥
That sounds like a great idea for a channel. I would watch that for sure!
Ha I have NO shortage of dumb things I do to talk about! Would love for you to start your channel! 🔥
I agree with so much of this. I think if you keep posting (which I need to do more of) your YT audience will always find you. My channel is summaries of personal development books. This is a good kick in the butt for me to get back to it. Thanks
We all need good kicks sometimes! Just keep posting and connecting!
Good topic👍
Great! I’m going over to subscribe to you encouraging you along. Now you have more reasons to get right back in there. ❤
@@AngieNaz That's really kind - thank you. So glad you're getting started! 🔥
I am 51 and just started my UA-cam channel to talk about my healing journey and the book I wrote to process it. And it is exactly like you say, it firstly helped me and then the one thing through my mind is that MY STORY CAN BE SOMEONE ESLE'S SURVIVAL GUIDE ❤ thank you for this 🙏🏼
WOW WOW WOW Your words are gold!!! So true 🙏🏼
Wonderful approach 💥
Aw thanks for the kind words
Diane, thanks for your inspiring video! Keep up the good work!
Hey, thanks for the encouragement!
@@DianeMoore Your welcome! 🤗
DIY is what started me to really watching YT. So I agree, ppl can gain from what you share. Thank u for sharing your stories
You are so welcome! Maybe you’ll be inspired to start sharing your own stories on UA-cam!
Sounds like a great idea, Kim
A channel helps you leave a legacy for future generations of family
Yes!
Just subscribed! UA-cam algorithms brought your channel to my attention as apparently the robots have finally figured out that smaller UA-camrs are my new rockstars. I have and embryonic channel myself and am still figuring out what my “niche” will be. Just enjoying a bit of community for now…..
Makes sense! The good part about small channels is you can experiment and it’s not a big deal. Best wishes for your growth and success! 🎉
I like the way you described your channel as being embryonic. I hope the best for you.
The gurus keep going on about niche. But that can backfire because you might get bored with it. So experiment.
@@LilyGazou thanks!
mY GOODNESS. you are a breath of fresh air! Thank you Diane!
Oh, that’s kind - thank you. I hope you’re thinking about starting a channel! 💥
@@DianeMoore I'm thinking of it... I've made a few short videos but I'm undecided. How comfortable I feel about it..
I like that viewpoint! I hope you’ll consider starting your own channel to add! 💥
You are the second video that has popped up after reading my mind about how I feel being over 45 and starting a channel. Thanks for your insight. I’m here for it! 😊
We are 48 and 58 and started our channel last year! It started off slow but recently has been growing more quickly. So glad we did it, never too old!!
So! What are you waiting for? Start your channel girl. 😊😊😊😊😊
That’s great, Valerie
I appreciate you, your encouragement and your inspiration. I recently "revived" my channel and have been finding inspiration from creators like you. I'm 58 and trying different topics as well, but truly believe we ARE the niche due to our life experiences. As for the negative comments, I was worried about those to, but another creator, New Era Adventures, gave me some great advice. He said think about and digest them before taking action. Since I've been doing that, I've not deleted one nor have I argued with the commenters. I thank them for their input and ask for additional feedback, unless of course they're downright antagonist. Thanks again for creating this video.
Glad for your channel's revival! The negative comments truly should be the least of your concerns.... just keep going!
UA-cam is very good for learning how to do things. I had no father in the house to teach me how to tie a tie but i had UA-cam.
Sounds like it’s made you quite resourceful
@@DianeMoore Yes, ma'am
Excellent advice!
Thanks for sharing!! So many good reasons to have a channel 💥
Diane, you are a great encourager! I hope you know that. You have given me some great ideas. Thank you!
You’re so kind - thank you! You can do it, Rhonda!

Thank you for your excellent suggestions and for inspiring all of us!❤😊
You are so welcome! The world needs to hear from you!
Love to see it happening!
@DianeMoore Me too 😃
Thanks for the ideas. Encouraging, I’ll take! Not sure many would agree with calming 🙂
I started my youtube channel to try to motivate people to do exercises by just watching my shorts training from Monday to Friday :) I wish more people practice any type of exercises since its the cheapest way to keep our health. If we do not get time for exercises we will have to take time to get doctors appointment and buy medice....
A very noble cause!
So glad you’ve started! And glad you see the non-tangible benefits and their worth
I love this comment.❤
The worst videos of my own to watch were the early ones. In no small measure because I didn't know how my voice sounded to the rest of the world! In time I got used to it, and I am now also used to seeing my face on a thumbnail. The best part is the people who thank me for showing them how to use their equipment.
You’re so funny and nice to listen to. I totally agree that 50’s, 60s, 80s year olds have a lot of gems of advice to share. Experiences to share. I love listening to other people’s experiences. Generations can come together on utube.Diane Moore, you’re a natural public speaker.
We can all definitely learn from each other
6:00 I am 36 and have been wanting to start a UA-cam channel for years. There are many people who can learn something from you and your life! 🙏🏽🥰
I've recently started a youtube channel called Two Minutes of Wisdom and have had some lovely feedback so far. It's lovely to know people find the information useful. Thanks for your encouragement...😊❤
That’s wonderful! And you’re right - I had no idea this channel would generate such a tremendous community 💥

Wow, thank you so much, Joy! Hope you’re thinking of starting your own channel!
I have a new channel and I’m feeling just like you described in the beginning. I’m still learning.
We all start at zero and learn and grow! So glad you're getting started!
I am 54 and I have a UA-cam channel but I haven't used it in a really long time because I wasn't sure what to do. I like your idea of trying a variety of things, because I have a lot of knowledge on different topics and I couldn't pick just one thing. Thank you for this.
That’s great!
Thank you! You are inspiring. I’ve subscribed to help you build your channel. I’ve wanted to start for the past 5 years, and have allowed many fears to stop me. I’m gonna listen to this one again and again. Best of luck to you!❤️❤️❤️
Lori, you can do it! Just try some different topics to see what seems to resonate with you. There is truly no harm in trying!
This is the big sister talk that I have needed to return to my channel. Thank you. 💜
Yeah it is! You can do it! 🙂

This is an awesome video! Thank you for sharing. These are some great ideas, thank you. I have a channel i’ve been working on for about a year. It’s finally starting to pick up a little bit and I enjoy doing it. The algorithm sent you to me and I am happy to connect with you today.❤ thank you for being here and have a great weekend✨
Hey thanks! I’m happy to subscribe to yours too! Is this the account for your channel?
@@DianeMoore Yes this is the name of my channel. I look forward to more videos from you. I will be going back and visiting some of your old videos as well.✨
For as long as I’ve been watching UA-cam, and wanting to become a UA-camr and knowing that I would one day and yet not having actually posted a video, I have watched a lot of videos like yours. A lot of videos trying to motivate me to start a UA-cam channel. But none have done it quite like yours, on such the earthy level that you come to the situation from. Dope, Diane!! Thank you.
Uh oh - sounds like it’s time for you to do it!! 💥
So glad you’re back at it again! 💥
Thanx Diane. You just popped up! Synchronicity for Sure!😊 I have been toying with the idea. U are so encouraging! New sub from South Africa💛
Synchronicity is the best! You can do it! South Africa - and plenty of other places - needs to hear from you! :)
Still going strong and I’ve never managed to monetize nor do I have any particular desire to.. it’s the journey ❤
All the best with your journey ❤
And for anyone on the fence, just go for it. Why the heck not?
Excellent attitude!
This is a great and inspiring video! Thank you.
Very kind of you to say. Thanks!
I have no idea why you came up in my feed today, but I'm glad you did! :-)
I’m glad I did too! Happy to connect 💥
You don't have to have a channel. Without viewers channels in a way would be a bit pointless. We viewers have our part to play
Just start one and have fun with it. It will evolve with time.
I am a 73rd old piano learner. I put up little youtubes of me playing short bits of hymns and folk tunes with countryside photos. I like doing it, have had about 600 views since I started a couple of months ago.
That sounds wonderful! So glad you’re enjoying it
I am almost 54 and I’m so glad this video showed up on my feed for 2 reasons. Lol.
You have so inspired me to start my channel ❤ thanks so much 😊❤❤❤❤❤❤
Excellent! You can do it! 💥
