Thank you for making this review and being honest about the machine lasting age 5-7 years. Thanks for the heads up on the problems associated with each brand.
I have the Whirlpool shown here. It works just fine. One little tip: if you have a load that you think is likely to get off balance...use the bulky/sheets cycle. That cycle features a spin that spins slower, but longer, than the other cycles and usually doesn't get off balance.
Great review however I find it unacceptable that a machine is only built to last approx 5 years. I have a Speed Queen Awn432 that has lasted 10 years so far with absolutely no repairs. Not that these are touted to be, but how can this be considered 'eco friendly'. Manufacturers can and should do better!
I completely understand your concerns about machines being built to last only about 5 years. It's unfortunate that engineered obsolescence is a factor in many appliances today. You made a great choice by picking a Speed Queen for your washer! If anyone else is interested in a durable and reliable washing machine, I recommend checking out my Speed Queen washer review at this link: The Best Washing Machine You Can Buy In 2023 - ua-cam.com/video/qlkdxWfTZVw/v-deo.html. Speed Queen is known for its long-lasting and dependable performance, as you've experienced with your own washer. Thanks for watching my channel!
I agree. I bought a Kenmore washer/dryer set the first year after I married. I still have the dryer. The washer died after 27 years. I figured it was because we moved three times and the machine was hurt during the last move. I replaced it with a Speed Queen AWNE92SP113. Dealer claimed the SQ would far outlast the Kenmore. Kenmore cost me $300, SP $800. SP stopped working last week after 8-9 yrs. Cost to repair (maybe, it was left open to needing more than one part) $500. SO I bought a new machine. Every still claims Speed Queens are the best. I did love mine, it was very close to my Kenmore and was quieter. The NEW Speed Queen TR7003WN cost $1500! And it arrived damaged/defective. It is Friday, I have a hole in my laundry room. Found Speed Queens are all hype. Their life is no greater than any other brand! And their horsepower means they cost more to buy AND operate. And like an luxury car, they cost more to keep going. I have to do laundry but not large loads most of the time. Because I live in a older home I thought the Speed Queens would be more dependable. I never considered those circuit boards though! I can't understand why they use better ones or put them in and price them so end users can replace them easily and cost effectively. As it is right now I am SO SO overwhelmed by all of the sales claims by the dealers who want to push the Speed Queens. I miss Sears so much right now ! They really looked out for consumers and carried merchandise and quality dependable appliances and were there to help someone make the best choice. LOWES/HOME DEPOT are terrible. And Best Buy is worse. I just don't know where or how to get a washing machine right now. Speed Queen claimed they were going to help me but they lied. It's hard to do stewardship math for appliances right now. I feel I have fleeced and foolish. I drank the kool aid and fell for the Speed Queen claims twice. And neither times did I wind up with a machine comparable to my Kenmore!
Speed queen is the way to go. I have the front loader built like a tank. Better to spend the extra money for great quality rather than replace a piece of junk every few years
Mine lasted 3 years. Splutch melted. Changed , with amzon splutch, that melted in less than a month, changed it again with OEM splutch that melted, changed splutch and the actuator still not operating (yes I cleaned out the agitator too).... After seeing this guys utube channel Speed queen it is
Thank you for the review. Because it does help people who were on a strict budget, but as for me I prefer to spend more money and get a machine that will last closer to 15 years. Perhaps you could do a review on machines you would recommend that would last closer to 15 or even as far as 20 years?. Your perspective is unique and valued. Thanks for a great video, take care.
@@seriejohnson698 Really? That's not what I hear about Speed Queen commercial washing machines that are available from non big box stores. Do you disagree with this point?
Have you ever heard an amana the basket hitting cabinet even with even loads and not overloading? This happen right after unboxing ? Now the agitator clicks and doesn’t wash . I admit I think my teen overloading the washer when I was in hospital so I can’t be too mad .. but i did have the one problem straight out of the box with amana. My recommendation would be the GE I have done lots of research if one gets it on sale the value is worth it .
Bought the whirlpool model in this video 2 years ago. Transmission upper bearing already howling. My last washer (Roper) lasted 12 years which I was able to fix and give to a friend. The only way to really save money on these new machines is to learn how to repair them. At least they are all nearly identical inside.
I tie dye so after a hand rinse, I like to place it in a full washing machine of water so it doesn't cross dye other items. Having the ability to freely control every cycle is a must. Applying an extra spin without the spray that's intended to even out the balance of the load, I need it without the spray because I spin out a PH treatment to the fabric to make dye bond molecularity. That spray dilutes my treatment. I also pull the drain hose to catch the unused chemical so I can spin it into a bucket and reuse it. Also being able to stop after the the rinse and back up to rinse again, is good for sensitive skin issues and rinsing out excess dye before switching temperatures for second washing.. I start cold and then hot. Hot is great for getting out the the last of the dye, but if there is too much still leftover, hot can also cause an activation in the chemistry process, making dye bond places I don;t want it too. But it also makes the white parts of a tie dye shirt whiter than hand or cold washing if the dye was sufficiently washed out in cold wash. .And there is no point going through the full 5+ minute spin. Maybe just a quick wringing of about 30 seconds to a minute then Refill and rinse to get all that detergent/residual dye out. Just wish I could do it hotter in cases of detergent. Hell, dye, too. on hot wash . I need control over all of it. All of it. lol Honestly the safety switch in the washer lid was sufficient enough. I don't need to be saved from myself. Unlock the damn washer. Darwin's law will sort things out.
I'm thinking you could get yourself one of the old style Whirlpool direct drive washers and just use a test box like I showed how to make in this video ua-cam.com/video/56OI7euGTEc/v-deo.html. You could also wire the water valves to a bank of toggle switches to select hot or cold inlet or both when you want warm. This way you can completely bypass the timer and pressure functions and fill the tub to the level and temperature you want and select agitate or spin and drain at the times you want them to occur. TOTAL CONTROL. This wouldn't be hard to do at all! Thanks for watching!
I just got the Speed Queen TV2000WN commercial washer and dryer. I’d rather pay double for metal parts and no computer with proven (lack of) technology (totally analog). The washer is about 2x as heavy as the one it replaces. No bells and whistles but I expect these to last a long time.
What this review has told me is I might as well pony up for Speed Queen because they come with what amounts to buying an extended warranty and at should last at least a decade. I have owned 3 washing machines in my house which includes the one that came with the house when I bought if and they have all lasted about 25 years
Thanks for the good in-depth review. When you talk about years of expected use for family of four (5-7 years),how would that translate to a family of two or a single person. Could a one or two person household double the number of years (10-14 years)? I would expect a young active family would wash several loads daily compared to retire couple doing may only do a single weekly load.
Great point and a good question! Unfortunately I don't have the answer. Perhaps somewhere someone has worked out the number of loads one of these machines are expected to do within its useful lifetime but I've never run across those numbers. If you find out please share that information with me. Thanks for watching!
I have a direct drive Roper Basic machine that is not overused. Two motor couplings a motor capacitor and transmission fluid exchange. So far, twenty six years give or take. 🎉
Thank you for your comment! It sounds like you appreciate the design of GE's top load washers. Your feedback adds valuable perspective to the discussion. Thanks again for watching and sharing your thoughts!
Great review on these washers. I have the same exact Maytag model that you review. The bleach dispenser was rusting. I just painted it yesterday with appliance expoxy paint. I can tell you that the machine is made of thin metal. I found this out while doing the repair. The machine is four and one half years old and it's not abused. We don't overuse bleach. I researched that these never do rust first at the bleach dispenser.
I always advise my customers to put the bleach directly into the tub with water. That is a weak spot on modern machines. Gone are the days that manufacturers used porcelain coated machine tops.
Today I just had a defective NTW4516FW4 warranty/service contract replaced. We only had the washer for 1.5 years. The washer was used at least twice daily. We were careful not to overload. For the price the washer did an excellent job cleaning the clothes. You do have to review the manual and watch videos to learn how to use it. For power protection, washer was plugged into a GFI with a surge supressor to protect the electronic components. Amana is made by Whirlpool and I find it quite disappointing that the quality control has gotten worse. Bottom line here is that for any major appliance purchase, you need to budget to include a service contract for any major failures. Overall, appears that we got a bad one in a lot, and judging from other posts, we just got unlucky.
I bought the whirlpool 4816 washer last year and beat the sh!t out of it. Runs min twice a day everyday on superwash mode with full water level! Washes great, but the minute the "gear case" implodes, I will get a speed queen TC5.
It's great to hear that your Whirlpool 4816 has been holding up well despite the heavy use! That's a testament to its durability. If you ever decide to switch to a Speed Queen TC5 in the future, it's also known for its reliability and performance. Remember to research and read reviews to make the best decision for your needs. Thanks for watching my channel, and if you have any questions or need assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out!
You did a great job with this review! The “add a garment” is really a silly feature since I don’t know of any front loader that fills with enough water to spill out of the front if you open the door. The DA agitator on the whirlpool and the Amana are better than the agitator on the Maytag, which doesn’t give you enough water movement, it’s just an extended wash plate. Just My opinion anyway.
Thank you for your kind words and for sharing your opinion on the "add a garment" feature and the different agitators! It's always interesting to hear different perspectives on various washer features and how they perform. Opinions can vary, and it's essential for each person to find the right washer that meets their specific needs and preferences. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out. Thanks for watching my channel!
4:10 I notice these nachines with interchangeable parts have quite different agitators, that the Whirlpool has a true agitator with a dual action auger but the Maytag has a one-piece "agipeller" or as I call it a "fraudgitator" without separate action for the auger. The problem is, the one-piece moves the clothes up and down hampering the roll-over of the clothes where the true dual-action contributes to the rollover. My choice was the Speed Queen TC5. A bit more expensive, but it does th job and it will probably outlast me.
The TC5 is my choice too. However, this video is about "Affordable" washers. Not everyone can spring for the cost of the Speed Queen! Thanks for watching!
I bought a Best Buy washing machine when I moved to Georgia in 2021 and I regret it. It won't spin out if there are towels or jeans. Sometimes I spend 12 hours trying to spin out the clothes because it takes a long time to fill up. It fills up and tries to spin out but can't so I take out towels and heavy items then try again. I tried opening and shutting the lid 6 times and that didn't work. I tried using bulky setting. I tried balancing the feet. I ordered a mop bucket so I can wring the water out.
If it’s a GE you probably need to change the belt. If another model it could be suspension problems. You failed to say the brand. Best Buy sells several brands. Thanks for watching!
Thank you but I'm sick of the rust problem in the top corner bleach container that's on my Samsung. I need a large load washer for blankets and bedding too. My last washer did the same thing. I need one with the agitator like the old days. Living off SS and wanting something that actually cleans is a wish for me. But it's that time again. Any suggestions?
Add a garment feature is because of the lid lock. And yes like you said you could push pause and wait for it to finish spinning then unlock. But that button is so not pressure friendly cuz you can feel it giving way from its mount that maybe they're trying to offer you an alternative so you don't wear your start button out. I will say that first Whirlpool one. I have it without an agitator and it lasted all of 3 years. But it was a hunk of junk within the first year. Waste of money.
i have low water pressure in my duplex, the waterfill takes 45 minutes on my 20+ yr old whirlpool. Want to buy a new machine, but i seen below you said "if the water inlet flow is too low it may just drain the rinse water before spinning or due to a sensor reading or something like this" ? I guess I will have to buy one to see if this is the case? Ive had this whirlpool forever Im afraid to risk it but there are no parts & as the technician told me this a couple months ago.
This is a difficult problem. If you don't have correct water pressure you are going to have to stick with older style used machines. If you are on a public water system, in the USA, I am pretty sure that they are required by law to provide adequate water pressure to the people they serve. You may want to investigate this and take it up with the public service commission in your state. Otherwise....I have no solution for you other than find an old style machine in good shape. Thanks for watching!
it was the water company that had the landlord put in a lower pressure unit/gauge so said him. I imagine it cost ^ $ to undo but ill look into it. Thanks for your reply. For now I bought a $160 manual clothes wringer. This will have to do for now. @@HarperandKnowles
I have spent most the day reading customer reviews on washers that claim they have a deep fill option. People claim the Maytag models with deep fill and the Whirlpool deep fill do not give a deep fill. I read this over and over, what am I missing? Or is there a certain type of load they must set on for that deep fill option to work? I even saw people ask Maytag, and they would not answer why theirs would not fill deep.
The “deep fill” option in modern washing machines has become a point of contention for some customers because it often doesn’t provide the amount of water they expect. This change in how washing machines fill has a lot to do with regulations imposed by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) under the Energy Policy Act of 2005, which aimed to improve the energy and water efficiency of appliances. In particular, the shift started around 2010 when new standards were enforced, and manufacturers had to design machines that used less water and energy per cycle. These regulations are tied to the EPA’s WaterSense program and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). The goal was to reduce the environmental impact, but it led to machines using less water, even when “deep fill” is selected, to comply with the requirements. So while manufacturers still offer a “deep fill” option, it’s limited by these regulations, meaning the fill level often isn’t as high as older, pre-regulation models. This change became widespread in the early 2010s when manufacturers adapted their machines to meet the efficiency standards, which sometimes led to customer dissatisfaction due to the lower water usage not meeting their expectations. Thanks for watching!
I have the washer that's mentioned @2:09. I use the deep water wash option for everything. It fills up pretty well. I just washed a king-size comforter, and when I opened the lid, it had more than enough water. I've had it for 4 years. I wash a lot with a family of five, and I'm happy with it.
I have that first one and hate it. Weak anemic agitator. First time I ran it thought it was defective. I want a maching that will help the soap knock the dirt loose. Not to mention the ridiculous lid swith broke and left a load of clothes in water. The thing would run but for a broken lid switch. Is there a washer like the "old days" that beats the dirt loose?
I bought a whirlpool 5000 washer with the wash plate when they were fairly new to the market and had decent reviews. On my machine all those "options" are pretty much useless, whe water level and wash time stay exactly the same. My workaround is to pre-soak what i can and to add extra water with a external hose, this means i jave to lift a 6 gallon pail with soaking clothes up from the floor, allow the washer to "fill" and then add 3 or 10 gallons of water with an external hose so it will actually clean the clothes. What earthly use is a water saving washer if you have to wash things again to actually get them clean? I should have sprung for the ASpeed Queen which while not water saving does actually clean clothes and is much more reliable
This is called government overreach. When we allow government agencies to make rules we are giving a room full of idiots power over us. Take for instance the requirement for water saving toilets. You have to flush them 3 times before everything goes down! How does that save water? And like you, many people find ways to circumvent these regulations so that their appliances work. I'm all for taking care of the environment but some of the things we suffer at the hands of government agency regulators are ridiculous! Thanks for watching!
These new washers don't clean clothes well because they are made to use less water, so some have deep water buttons which my daughter almost always uses - so how is she saving water? Also, they supposedly use less electricity, but to get your clothes clean you not only need more water with them you need the longest cycle. A lot of people also say you need to use a second rinse to get all the soap and dirt rinsed away. My daughter usually always uses deep water and second rinse. So, someone tell me how these new machines save water and electricity?
My maytag washer and dryer 29 years old. They made good machines back then. I should have bought 2 sets of them. Them days are over. My mother and father had appliance business and sold maytag and GE, Hot point . I worked for them for 5 or 6 years till I moved on as a electrican. I worked on all kinds of them machines over the years. They weren't throw away machines back then. Now a days. My apinoin I'd buy the cheapest one. Run it till it dies. 5 years. Tops. Get another one. And more features, more crap to break. It's just an appliance not a sports car
The key take away for me was, no model is meant to last more than 5-7 years. That is the reason, I'll spend the extra money when ours goes out and buy a Speed Queen.
I enjoyed your review. When a washer gets way out of balance for a long time, why would it be impossible to fix? Is it because the holes in the drums enlarge? There are shims you can buy for that. They tighten the fit between the shaft and the baskets.
I have pondered this problem for a long time. I’m skeptical about re-engineered product fixes because most of the time they fail too soon. I’m going to test out Ben’s shims to see if they hold up over the long run. I have thought of boring out the tub hub and installing a brass sleeve turned to specs to see if that would improve the design but so far it’s just a thought. You’d think Whirlpool would step up their game and fix this issue but engineered obsolescence is the game now. Thanks for this comment. Perhaps this is just the excuse I need to justify buying that lathe I’ve always wanted!
@HarperandKnowles I agree about re-engineering, in general. But seeing the foam bumper pads inside the cabinet as an engineering solution shows me they're willing to squeak by. I've ordered Ben's shims and I hope they fix my problem. It's possible that my drive shaft has narrowed from rust. I'm not taking it apart again until the shims arrive. I'm sure we agree that better materials would've been the solution. If this doesn't work, I'm buying a Speed Queen TR7. Money isn't an issue and I'm tired of repairing washers. My Maytag Bravos is 9 years old. It looks brand new, but I've fixed it 4 times already.
I installed Ben's 1mm shim. It was a tight fit but I don't think the .75mm would have done the trick. The .5mm wasn't thick enough. The installation was straightforward and easy enough. All the slop between the basket and shaft is gone. The washer has minor shakinging at a couple times in the spin cycle, but it's mostly quiet and no longer walks across the floor. It doesn't move at all. I call it a success. I may install some new, more expensive suspension rods again and see if it can get any better. The rods in it now are the originals (from 9 years ago) but they're repacked with very tacky grease. The basket doesn't bounce when I push on it, but another $65 at this point is worth the chance for me.
I have a washer that is severely off balance. I got the shims in the mail today. If I have time next week I'll install them then test the snot out of them before I sell the unit or scrap it. I hope he's come up with a solution. I've sent a bunch of machines to the junk yard that I could have otherwise turned a profit on. I'll let you know how it works out. Let me know how successful your repair is.
I do videos about Hotpoint! I can only do videos about those models that come into my shop. I live in the USA! I don’t see many European models. Thanks for watching!
Old single guy here. I want to set my own water level. I do not need a wide variety of wash cycles - and since i only have cold water running to my machine, i will want to do what i do now, which is create a Y and have the cold water running to both sides(my machine would not turn on without 2 hoses connected)............does this washer even exist? On the water level, does the dad gum auto sensing - put enough water in the tub? I'd hate to have to use the deep water setting on small loads. Please advise? Thanks man Oh and it should go without saying, yet i do not need no wi fi either :)
Wow! You want to bypass all the EPA regulatory silliness??? How un-American! LOL! Speed Queen is the only brand that I know of that somehow gets around some of these limitations. Thanks for watching!
@@HarperandKnowles I prefer 'crafty American' ha. I'm going ahead and getting my old washer repaired - a new pump and rods i thins is all it needs. Comparison shopping for anything these days is a whole lot of work, so we appreciate your knowledge. Cheers
On the suspension rod, there's a sliding white cap. It's just above the lower socket and with a little push the socket will pass over it. When that lower socket is snapped into the outer tub, does it matter where that cap sits on the rod? I almost looks like it's supposed to snap into the lower socket to keep the socket from coming out. But nothing is ever shown on this. Any ideas?
See your other reference to this question on this video How To Replace Suspension Rods in Washing Machines: A Mechanic's Guide to Balance & Repair ua-cam.com/video/xmBJdpUfV-Q/v-deo.html.
Hello I owned an amana washer for 5 years a month a go started shaking terribly so my husband changed the suspension rods it was working great for couple weeks but now started shaking again in every cycle I’m guessing at this point I just need to purchase a new washer.
I’ve seen cheap rods wear out quickly. You should only use OEM (original equipment manufactured) rods when changing them. You can also check to see if the tub has been bent from overloading. Check out this video for that: Unbalanced Washer? Here's Why & How to Fix ua-cam.com/video/xmBJdpUfV-Q/v-deo.html. Thanks for watching!
@@HarperandKnowles I also have an Amana washer that is 5 years old. I was tempted to buy cheap suspension rods on Amazon but went with OEM. Changing the rods was not my idea of fun. When It goes, I am tempted to get a Speed Queen TC5. Enjoy your info.
I got this Amana and it is just three years old and already broke. Something to do with the switch inside the washer that controls the water level. The water is not filling up. Will cost me almost $400 to fix therefore I’m getting a new one. Waste of money so sorry I bought this. There are two people in my household. This washer machine was only used once a week.
If it is a problem with the pressure transducer you could just change the control board. You can find used boards very reasonably on eBay or buy a new one. I saw a guy that bought some pressure hose and experimented by starting with a long piece and kept cutting segments out of it until he found the perfect hose length for the amount of water he desired in the tub. $400 is an exorbitant amount to charge for fixing this. Thanks for watching!
Roper is a Whirlpool brand. When you order parts for one they are Whirlpool parts. Speed Queen is the jewel of American washers in today’s market. Thanks for watching!
Speed Queen only comes in 3.2 baskets and I need a large capacity for my King Size bedding which I wash often so I have to buy one of these cheap junk machines that have a 5 cubic basket.@@HarperandKnowles
Chip uses an old style Estate washing machine that I bought in 2009 and is still working. The dryer is one that was given to me because it had a squeal in it and was only two months old when the lady replaced it. It is an Amana. And the squeal was a screw that got caught in the felt drum seal. If either machine goes out I plan to replace them with Speed Queen machines. The best on the market today! Thanks for watching!
@@HarperandKnowles my next wash & dry set will be Speed Queen! I currently have a set from Bosch I still have & bought them new back way back in 2006 & no issues or one single repair since I owned them. . The washer is a front load . . I plain on running it until it gives up . Until then I’m setting money aside now
Are there no washing machines made now that don't use suspension rods? I know why they use suspension rods because they fail and the machine needs to be replaced. Aside from Speed Queen, does any manufacturer make a decent washer without suspension rods??? Thanks!!!
Why the new washers have the drum COMPLETELY LOSE?… I order a new GE FROM HOME DEPOT and WAS TOTALLY LOSE AS I PUT THE FIRST EASH IT WAS BANGING LIKE CRASY
The tubs are suspended by four rods at each corner. If it is banging around and a new machine something is not correct. If it is a stacked unit make sure you have removed the shipping rod from the right side of the machine. Thanks for watching!
I wonder at what point in the GE and various Whirlpool brands do you get a better built machine? For example better struts and something that’ll last more than a few years. Is there a particular series or price point, or just all the same up to their top models?
If you search out those made for the commercial laundromat market you can get a better built machine. Like those in this video Choosing the Best Commercial Washer for Home Use: Maytag vs Speed Queen ua-cam.com/video/tcwRiOMpVEY/v-deo.html. Thanks for watching!
My mom just had the first whirlpool washer you showed installed but the drum is moving a lot and seems loose. It seems almost as loose as what you showed of a broken one. How much is the drum supposed to move?
I have a Bravos that we have been able to replace the actuator and pump on ourselves but now I think the suspension is going out. How much does this to hire someone replace typically? I'm not sure if it's worth the cost to replace the rods or if we should use it until it dies and get a new one. I think it's about 8 years old.
The cost of hiring a service technician can vary greatly depending on your geographical location. In general, you might expect to pay somewhere between $50 to $200 for a service call, plus the cost of parts. Keep in mind that this is a rough estimate and actual costs can be higher or lower. The suspension rods for a Bravos washer can run in the ballpark of $50 to $80, again depending on where you source the parts. Therefore, you'll want to weigh the potential repair cost against the cost of a new machine. If your machine is already 8 years old and has had multiple issues, it may be nearing the end of its lifespan. However, if it's in good condition otherwise, a repair might extend its life considerably. Ultimately, the decision will depend on your budget, the overall condition of your machine, and the cost-effectiveness of the repair. Thanks for your question, and for watching my videos!
We have the Bravos and so far my husband has been able to find videos on UA-cam to repair himself. He currently has a “tub shaft and bearing kit” in the Amazon cart ($50) as they have gone out again. It’s a 15 year old washer and we’re trying to decide if we just buy a new one.
@@reneejohnson7505 I just got a new one recently. The actuator went out again for the third time and it's still bouncing around too much. My husband thinks it could be why the actuator broke. I hated to spend the money but I feel like the new front loader does a better job. Hopefully it lasts 🤞
Hi, I have a 26-year-old whirlpool washer and dryer. It is basic and does a great job. I hope it will last another 26 years. Today just a bunch of over engineered junk. No, you don't need a button to add things to a top load machine, but you get one. Something else to fail. I'm not sure when we forgot how to build anything to last. I'm sure companies enjoy watching people going to spend their money every few years on new junk.
It's impressive that your Whirlpool washer and dryer have served you well for 26 years! Basic, reliable appliances can certainly withstand the test of time. While modern machines may come with additional features, it's understandable that you appreciate the simplicity and durability of your older models. It's true that advancements in technology can sometimes result in more complex designs, but there are still brands and models available that prioritize longevity. It's always good to research and choose products known for their durability if longevity is a priority for you. Thanks for watching!
No, the right-wing fascist dictators created these laws in order to force us to buy this junk. Blame the democrats for it though, despite the fact it takes both parties to pass legislation.
We have the first model you reviewed, the Whirlpool and man it is terrible. We've had nothing but problems and needed to have it completely overhauled and a few years. It will not clean cloths due to low water levels.
I have the G.E adjutator modle and deep fill sucks, we have to add 2 buckets of water, it also smells moldy and we cant get the adjtor off to clean it, how do you get it off. We hate this washer.
I got over 20 years with the old washing machines made by Kenmore and I was allowed to put all the water I needed to succeed in cleaning my dirty clothes
Thank you for the information, just got done with emptying my washer by hand, still have a lot to do. Hoping to get some more done in the morning. Water everywhere. Maybe I can get a used one from you. As well as the dryer. What do I do?
I’m afraid you would have to be located within 25 miles of me. That’s my service area and I don’t sell machines outside of that. I bet you could find someone in your area that flips used machines. Thanks for the comments!
Lol, Amana is a Whirlpool brand name. Whirlpool Corporation acquired the Amana brand as part of its purchase of Maytag Corporation in 2006. Maytag had previously owned Amana, and when Whirlpool acquired Maytag, it gained Amana along with other Maytag assets. The acquisition allowed Whirlpool to expand its portfolio of appliance brands. When you disassemble an Amana washer every part in it is interchangeable with Whirlpool parts. So, what you really have is a Whirlpool machine! Thanks for watching!
I bought the GE based on the good reviews it got. I absolutely HATE it. If you choose warm water wash it doesn’t mix it from the inlet. It alternates between hot and cold. Also, even if you select max fill it is not enough water to wet the clothes and agitate properly unless it is a small or medium load. The repairman checked all over and told me that if I wanted a good fill for bedding and such to get the a hose and fill it that way. What a PITA!! Oh how I wish I had gotten the Speed Queen TC5.
Even the best new digital machines are still made out of mostly garbage. Give me a real Whirlpool , Kitchenaid Kenmore, Roper direct drive washer. They are only available used, but this is your best option.
@@HarperandKnowles yes SQ was always pretty good . but much more of a pain in the neck to replace even typical things like a pump, or they’re super weird clutch that was filled with oil , and especially something horrific like a transmission. My only complaint today is the digital boards. Do they make a Speed Queen with an analog timer?,
A magnet can still stick to stainless steel. The cheaper grade of stainless steel *is* magnetic, it's called Martensitic stainless steel. The non-magnetic stainless steels are "Austentic" and more expensive and have more corrosion resistance and have more chromium and nickel. But yes, Maytag is using the cheaper grade of stainless steel, but apparently even though it has more iron and isn't as corrosion proof, that type of cheaper stainless is still used in pumps, valves and boat shafts, medical instruments, kitchen knives, etc. It has good weldability, and other engineering advantages. Ferritic stainless steel is also magnetic, there are more types than just these 3 I mentioned. Who knows which one Maytag uses?
Maytag, like many other appliance manufacturers, may use different grades of stainless steel for various components in their products. Without specific information from Maytag, it is challenging to determine which exact grade of stainless steel they use for their appliances. Thank you for providing additional information and shedding light on the different types of stainless steel and their characteristics. It's always interesting to learn more about the materials used in our appliances. Your comment is both insightful and informative and adds to the value of the community. 400 series stainless is magnetic 300 series is magnetic both will not rust. The claim that the washers have a stainless steel tub is a sales gimmick. The washers today basically last about 5 yrs so what is the need for a stainless steel tub.
Hmm, so if you go into a store that has these brands and pick out the least expensive of all of them those will be the ones in this video. If you start adding extra features the console will change as well as the model numbers but what’s inside will be the same. Thanks for watching!
Oooooh boy....I'm soooo tired of garbage products EVERYWHERE!!! I have that #2 Maytag. I bought maybe 4-5 years ago. I hated it from day one. Noisy and washes that can take hours! Finally this thing is having electronic issues so it's time to get a divorce. Unfortunately, finding something I won't hate will be difficult. Even the Speed Queen TR's are garbage! People complain they DO NOT clean. The SQ TC5 looks good but that is over priced for the simplicity. I like simple but I want a lower price.
We have a POS Maytag Centennial with commercial technology that has broken down three times in three years. They are no longer Maytags but Whirlpools. DO NOT BUY !
Yep. I’m 65 yrs old . My entire life Maytag was very reliable. The 4 yr old Maytag commercial technology is the biggest piece of shit we’ve ever owned.
So you advise to stay away from a Maytag and whirlpool when looking for a basic 4.5-5 cubic washer? My old 24 yr old whirlpool finally went out and would cost me 350-400 to repair. I’m looking for something simple that’s reliable. Please advise

we bought an Amana 8 months ago, that thing now doesnt work properly, when it fills for the rinse cycle it fills and drains the water right away, then light goes to wash😡 waste of 500 dollars
It sounds like your water valve isn’t working properly. Disconnect the hoses from the back and check for debris in the inlet filters. If your water inlet flow is too low the machine will time out and drain before the correct pressure is obtained to start the wash cycle. This is a safety feature that prevents your home from being flooded if the pressure transducer is defective. Thanks for watching!

Hi there, maytag washer top load I replace suspension road was bad, gear case.inner tub drive hub kit, pulley clutch kit and new washplate bolt screw after that I reset and calibration washer machine and still shake violently also I replace new leg and make I good balance, what outs I need to do to get this washer machine work normal model MVWC565FW1 SER C84747777 please can't you help me thanks.
What will happen with these machines is they will wear out the hole beneath the tub hub and no amount of new parts will keep the tub from leaning over and causing an unbalanced situation. About the only way to truly fix this is to replace the tub. If they only made a bushing that you could drive in there it would probably fix that condition. Thanks for watching!

Thank you for making this review and being honest about the machine lasting age 5-7 years. Thanks for the heads up on the problems associated with each brand.
Well, thank you for watching and I hope it was helpful!
I have the Whirlpool shown here. It works just fine. One little tip: if you have a load that you think is likely to get off balance...use the bulky/sheets cycle. That cycle features a spin that spins slower, but longer, than the other cycles and usually doesn't get off balance.
Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching too!
My grandmother always had a Maytag … but that was a Maytag of the 40’s , 50’s , 60’s and 70’s .
Whirlpool acquired the Maytag brand on April 1, 2006 and it hasn’t been the same since. Thanks for watching!

My old maytag i got from my grandmother it lasted more then 30 years with a few issues.
Speed queen is the way to go. I have the front loader built like a tank. Better to spend the extra money for great quality rather than replace a piece of junk every few years
I couldn’t agree more. Thanks for watching!
I have that exact Maytag shown at the beginning and it's junk now after 2.5 years!! I'm going to buy a TC5 this week. Thank you!

Bought the whirlpool model in this video 2 years ago. Transmission upper bearing already howling. My last washer (Roper) lasted 12 years which I was able to fix and give to a friend. The only way to really save money on these new machines is to learn how to repair them. At least they are all nearly identical inside.
You can’t beat the old style machines. Thanks for watching!
I expect they will. Thanks for watching!
What this review has told me is I might as well pony up for Speed Queen because they come with what amounts to buying an extended warranty and at should last at least a decade. I have owned 3 washing machines in my house which includes the one that came with the house when I bought if and they have all lasted about 25 years

Oh . But you better live where there's a sq repair person

Pour your bleach directly into the tub and don’t use the crappy bleach dispenser. The chlorine causes the rust. Thanks for watching!

Do these machines lock to lid when running They may explain the pause and add feature.
Yes, they do. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching!
The Speed Queen TC5 is the machine for you. Thanks for watching!
That's what happens when you put a government agency in charge of consumer goods. Unbridled regulation! Thanks for watching!
It's like the Hank hill episode about toilets
My maytag washer and dryer 29 years old. They made good machines back then. I should have bought 2 sets of them. Them days are over. My mother and father had appliance business and sold maytag and GE, Hot point . I worked for them for 5 or 6 years till I moved on as a electrican. I worked on all kinds of them machines over the years. They weren't throw away machines back then. Now a days. My apinoin I'd buy the cheapest one. Run it till it dies. 5 years. Tops. Get another one. And more features, more crap to break. It's just an appliance not a sports car
Thanks for watching!
Maytag isnt anything like it used to be!!😮😮
The key take away for me was, no model is meant to last more than 5-7 years. That is the reason, I'll spend the extra money when ours goes out and buy a Speed Queen.
That’s a wise decision. Thanks for watching!
My choice would be the TC5. Simpler and the agitator is separate from the tub.
I do videos about Hotpoint! I can only do videos about those models that come into my shop. I live in the USA! I don’t see many European models. Thanks for watching!
its because the machine locks itself as a safety feature on the first one. I own that model.

Thanks man
Oh and it should go without saying, yet i do not need no wi fi either :)
Any ideas?

Hello I owned an amana washer for 5 years a month a go started shaking terribly so my husband changed the suspension rods it was working great for couple weeks but now started shaking again in every cycle I’m guessing at this point I just need to purchase a new washer.
I’ve seen cheap rods wear out quickly. You should only use OEM (original equipment manufactured) rods when changing them. You can also check to see if the tub has been bent from overloading. Check out this video for that: Unbalanced Washer? Here's Why & How to Fix

Thanks for watching my video!
I will only buy Speed Queen washer and dryers with mechanical controls.
Thanks for watching!
I like Roper, speed queen.
I would like to know what Washer and Dryer does Chip use?
Chip uses an old style Estate washing machine that I bought in 2009 and is still working. The dryer is one that was given to me because it had a squeal in it and was only two months old when the lady replaced it. It is an Amana. And the squeal was a screw that got caught in the felt drum seal. If either machine goes out I plan to replace them with Speed Queen machines. The best on the market today! Thanks for watching!

Are there no washing machines made now that don't use suspension rods? I know why they use suspension rods because they fail and the machine needs to be replaced. Aside from Speed Queen, does any manufacturer make a decent washer without suspension rods???
Thanks!!!
Aside from Speed Queen the only ones I can think of are front loaders. Thanks for watching!

Like those in this video Choosing the Best Commercial Washer for Home Use: Maytag vs Speed Queen

Any suggestions of why the drum is totally lose or which will be better for this issue
See your other comment. I answered there.
My mom just had the first whirlpool washer you showed installed but the drum is moving a lot and seems loose. It seems almost as loose as what you showed of a broken one. How much is the drum supposed to move?
They all move on suspension rods these days. Pretty normal.
@@HarperandKnowles ok thank you!
Just don’t let the tub bagging against the inner wall. It’s supposed to straighten itself out during spin.

Yeah, budget friendly doesn’t mean top quality. For that you’ll have to buy Speed Queen. Thanks for watching!
I have the G.E adjutator modle and deep fill sucks, we have to add 2 buckets of water, it also smells moldy and we cant get the adjtor off to clean it, how do you get it off. We hate this washer.
Retrieve the service sheet at the back left bottom inside corner of the cabinet. There are instructions as to how to disassemble parts of your washer.

I love my Amana washer and Dryer. Dislike the Whirlpool, clothes come out very wrinkled.
.
So you don't wear out your push to start button.

@@inseasonandoutofseason🤣💀
I bought the GE based on the good reviews it got. I absolutely HATE it. If you choose warm water wash it doesn’t mix it from the inlet. It alternates between hot and cold. Also, even if you select max fill it is not enough water to wet the clothes and agitate properly unless it is a small or medium load.
The repairman checked all over and told me that if I wanted a good fill for bedding and such to get the a hose and fill it that way. What a PITA!!
Oh how I wish I had gotten the Speed Queen TC5.

I hope to see more of your comments in my videos! Thanks for watching!
400 series stainless is magnetic 300 series is magnetic both will not rust. The claim that the washers have a stainless steel tub is a sales gimmick. The washers today basically last about 5 yrs so what is the need for a stainless steel tub.

we bought an Amana 8 months ago, that thing now doesnt work properly, when it fills for the rinse cycle it fills and drains the water right away, then light goes to wash😡 waste of 500 dollars

What will happen with these machines is they will wear out the hole beneath the tub hub and no amount of new parts will keep the tub from leaning over and causing an unbalanced situation.
