    As someone who used to fight my older brother with lightsabers, I can see why gauntlets are essential

    No matter what sport or activity you're dealing with the nr.1 thing about gear is being "hurt" vs. Being "injured"
    Hurt means you're feeling pain, injured means something has stopped working
    Never cut corners if it risks injury, it's not worth it in the long run, get a good helmet, good gloves and for the love of god wear your cup.
    If the risk is getting hurt corner cutting is acceptable; that big bruise on your thigh that you got for wearing sub-optimal trousers hurts like hell but will be alright in a few days
    Getting hurt is annoying, but alright. Getting injured is a problem

    Gentlemen, don't skip the cup. You'll regret it when a cleanly delivered thrust tries to end your lineage.

      Anyone needs groin protection, really. Even if your bits aren't dangling they're still in the line of fire if a thrust ends up low.

    I remember when I was playing rugby in high school I snapped both bones in my forearm straight through in two places and shattered my growth bones apart. I can only remember walking up to a teacher and them just acting normal because they couldn’t tell anything was wrong and then recoiling at the sight of the arm. At the time I found it really funny the nights in hospital were much less fun.

      @@SuppperWormy Yes, friend. I am familiar with the hardware. :D
      We are having a funny moment to appreciate that many viewers were expecting an explanation of what gorget, helmet, gauntlets, etc... they use.
      But instead, with the exception of the jacket, the content was more like: [This is a gorget, these are gauntlets, this is a padded fencing mask.]
      It's ironic. It's funny!

    Could you link the gears website to the description of the video so it is easy to find the product?

    how does it feel to wear all this in hot weather?

    • @Arcavi0us
      @Arcavi0us Рік тому +1

      SUCKS. Most of the gear comes from eastern/central Europe, airflow usually isnt a thing. Recent gear is better about it by having the back have holes which can help vent hot air but generally speaking after each bout you'll see people with their helmets off and jackets open.

    • @SuppperWormy
      @SuppperWormy 2 роки тому

      @@yoavnissen8390 you don’t change the grip for bicornio, just the arms… the thumb stays on the side of the grip… just never put your thumb on the grip for better aim, if you get hit on the thumb in that moment, the lobsters won’t really help against the pressure of the strike you receive :)

    In HEMA can you wear Historical reproductions of armor like Gambesons, Cuirass, Helmets... Etc hat are rated for battle reenactments?

    • @wildrangeringreen
      @wildrangeringreen 9 місяців тому

      most clubs don't care, as long as it is of actual armor quality. Unless you're going for fighting in armor, you are pretty much limited to a padded jack/Gambeson/ Arming Kaftan/ ect (to include jack-chains). If you wear articulated steel gauntlets, make sure they fit you really well (they're a bit dangerous if not). Something like a Spangenhelm and padded cap or aventail isn't too crazy, but you need mesh to protect your eyes and nose (once again, the issue is that most HEMA is aiming at civilian or lightly equipped troop use of weapons). Throat protection is important (but an arming jacket should cover the throat).
      That being said... some clubs and tournaments are absurd, and won't allow anything historical to be used, not matter how well made, functioning, or fitted they are.
      Once you get beyond the bargain dedicated HEMA PPE, it's a toss up whether a Historical reproduction or a top-shelf HEMA piece is cheaper.
      Best bit of PPE you have when fencing is to actually act like the things you're holding are actually swords (you know, sharpened iron bars, which can easily take off fingers, run you through, cut limbs off (or to the bone), ect with very little real force, to the point where even with modern surgery, you are not terribly likely to survive wounds sustained in a sword fight long enough to make it to the surgeon to fix you)... if it's coming at you, GTFO of the way anyway you can. Too many people are so focused on "hitting the other guy" that they set themselves up to seriously get hurt. The goal of fencing is to survive with as few crippling injuries as possible, not to "hit the other guy"; we only cut/stab the other guy so that he doesn't cut/stab us (you cannot simply "tank" a sword, axe, club, or knife strike).
