yeah these games are not for everyone and tbh I've never had patience for these types of games myself. Very draining and soooo difficult I can relate to Joe.
I'm not going to get on Angry Joe but you know where you had died at where you saw a ghost sitting in the chair you were supposed to had jumped down off the cliff that's where it shows you how to use the controller for your character that's where tutorials plus the messages on the ground once you jump down there it's also part of the tutorial so it's good to always check those signs out not just for the tutorial but once you get into the game is fast from around the world that helps you buy leave a message to let you know to Warrant you that there's an ambush or treasure stuff like that also you locked, by pushing in the R3 my mistake your on pc with a Xbox controller click in the right trigger to lock on and to switch between Target is simply tilt the right analog stick to switch between multiple targets you were supposed to buy the craft kit from the Merchant to equip your horse you got to go to your equipment it's the ring that the lady had gave you you can dual wield on this game you can have special ability for your Sword you can learn new skills in the game and don't get me started about the horseback battles that you can do on here and you can summon I can go on and on and on but it would take all day.
yup. It's funny how people complain about this guy, that's it's stupid to put such a hard enemy right at the start. But I love it. Yea, it teaches you that's it's ok to skip stuff. It also reinforces that RPG leveling people love so much. Why not put an impossibly hard enemy at the beginning? Try him out a few times, say nope no way, come back to him much later, and it's actually a fair fight. Each level up seems so small and incremental, but it all slowly adds up.

@@HeilRay yes I rushed to Margit with a base confessor and died like 10 times until I beat him. Then I went to the autistic summon albericht and died like 30 times before I just left the area. I wouldn't have had to do so but my runes bugged out and didn't come back upon picking them up anymore so I said fuck it and went off to explore more of limgrave and the rotting corpses area.

Man, how can people be so obtuse. The moment I saw the tree sentinel I knew I wasn't supposed to tackle him just right away. I tried like 5 times and realized I was too underleveled.
The problem was that Joe didn't just go to other areas and explore other things before fighting bosses he was too under leveled for. It's an open world game, just go and explore other things. It's not his fault though, he's too used to modern cookie cutter open world games that literally hold your hand and tells you where to go constantly and puts markers on the map of where EVERYTHING is. Not trying to suck Elden Ring off or anything, I have plenty of personal problems with the game, but it's an open world game that is actually about exploring not another open world game that TELLS you what to explore and where. An actual exploration game.
yup, youre supposed to explore and level up. Even in the beginning if you die to a boss you go farm some mobs find items see what else is there level up and come back.
I'm other games the lack of explanation is annoying because the world is so empty, but Elden Ring gives you a big pile of tools to use, dumps you in a sandbox that's fine with fun stuff to find, same gives you just enough guidance so you know what the objective is but lets you go about that however you want. I was almost Lv 70 before fighting Godrick because 1) I suck, and 2) I just kept finding cool stuff by running around and exploring random places. Even just grinding runes from the Vulgar Militia is fun, because improving your assassination technique is immediately fulfilled with tangible rewards at any level.
Well it’s hilarious because the game is designed for everyone to get into it technically … but it’s still absolutely brutal as all the other souls games lmao so that doesn’t help for newer players who don’t understand the difficulty design philosophy of the souls games. So in essence … “Git Gud Scrub” lol
@@TipppedScales1015 This is my first game in this series, tbh. I'm not very good, and I'm not likely to get better since I'm limited by my biological reflexes. But most of that can be got around by exploration. "GiT gUd" is worthlessly reductive.

These type of games always have a sharp learning curve. I hope you all stick with this as it’s a blast to watch you 3 pass that controller. Reminds me of mortal kombat couch coop days when a death meant passing that controller
Well done guys! Couple of things I´d like to point out: There was a tutorial telling how you can equip spirit summons and steed summoning in a separate system, where you don´t have to put them in the same place where your normal items (healing etc.) are used. Makes things a lot easier. Another big thing, horseback fighting is a new feature in Souls games like Joe noticed. Another hugely important new thing is jumping attacks. Those will benefit in many situations. For me (having a big sword) jumping R2 attack is probably my most used attack in the game. Covers nice distance, does big damage and is good for guardbreaking /poise breaking. Hope this helps a bit and I hope you enjoy the game. I sure do!
@@SamxSZN_ Basically you just go to menu and see the pouch on the right side of your screen. You can assign stuff for those slots and activate them by keeping interaction button (triangle /Y as default) pressed and then hit the chosen direction from D-pad. @shootoman Nice to see a positive and constructive comment amongst all the childish squabbling (most comments divulge into utterly petty nonsense), so well done to you ser!
I really liked that AJ and OJ get closer and closer to beating the boss after repeated attempts. That’s the best part. It is doable even if one is under leveled. Seems like they learned the pattern of attack.
Just level up your weapon of choice at least 2 levels and be around level 15-20. Definitely fight him on horseback its way easier stick and move. His move set is pretty easy after awhile make sure to memorize his attack pattern. Next charge your heavy attack before every strike and then run out of the way. Make sure your always holding down sprint he's incredibly fast with Op strikes. Stick and move with heavy attacks and you will defeat him. Note that he will spit his moves out more rapidly and chaotic closer to death but he is still avoidable. Good luck I defeated him this way it was pretty easy once I got his moves down and my timing right.
The weirdest thing watching new people play Souls is that their perception that the game is meant to be "brutally difficult" actually causes them to make the game harder for themselves than it actually needs to be. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy, you perceive the game to be impossible/impassable and so when you hit what is clearly a difficulty spike instead of thinking of ways to deal with it (now or potentially later) you go "SEE, I TOLD THIS GAME WAS BS."
As a new player im right there with ya. Died about 50 times trying to beat him.. about to give up for the night. Next thing you know i just ran around him and got to like level 30 over the course of a few days and killed him im 2 tries.
Same thing happened with me when i did heists in Payday 2 solo when first bought game. I lost all the time and had no clue how to play any contract. Then i did some tutorial heists and then proceeded on to the main low level heists, then slowly beefed up my character and proceeded on to missions on higher diffculties. Memorized all the map patterns for every heist. Now i can easily tackle a Deathwish heist on Solo.
Every streamer I've watched play the intro of this game fell into the trap of thinking they had to kill the Tree Sentinel before progressing. It's an open world game, just run past him if you can't beat him and come back later.

@@ByrgenworthGraduate Thank you for the answer. Being part of a franchise doesn't guarantee a sequel's quality, as one can clearly see on Star Wars and many other movie franchises. Would you be willing to name a few qualities of Elden Ring which would make someone who has never played a souls game play this one?
i am saying this, but i also would love to see them create an actual coop system as well as keeping the invasion and summon system along side a new one
You gotta review this game man. Take your time with it, you will come to love it. I hated souls games, but this one is more approachable, there are a LOT of ways to go through the barriers that existed in other souls games.
Everyone uses pop-ups for donations/subs, but these with long videos of AJ, OJ or Alex talking are very distracting. Sometimes I could not tell if the talking was live or the pop-ups videos. Often it was both and was hard to concentrate on any of it.
The main advice I would give them is to dodge into your enemy and don't be afraid to stay close to them. When you dodge away, often you're distancing yourself from being able to attack them. Just my two cents!
The whole point is exploring and finding more areas, loot, bosses, etc., but there is the lore that gets you invested with attention to detail around it.
You mean like enemies hitting you through walls? Or the fact you can swap to empty inventory spaces? Lol or NOT hitting a boss/enemy your standing right in front of...I am sure there are more issues for me with the game. Besides the ass performance on pc and I just hate games that force you to use Lockon systems in an action game.
@@douglasduda9826 Like BF 2042? Sounds like your rig needs an overhaul or you need to "git gud". I've been playing the Soulsborne series since 2009. This is not your Mario or Zelda.
So new players get a reference, I’ve played every single fromsoft game multiple times, beat every ending to all the souls/sekiro/bloodborne games and I didn’t really have much of a chance with the Tree Knight until I spent about 4 hours getting better equipment and leveling up. You aren’t supposed to beat him at the start. He’s there to show you how to overcome the challenges the game throws at you. I could have beat him but it would have taken several tries, come back a few hours later one try and I have his sweet axe.

I hope these guys enjoyed their time with Elden Ring; as much as I want to watch I can't spoil myself until I get some time to play this weekend. Then I'll come back at a later time to see how this went. Just don't go to a ditch and die guys!!
I skipped gold horse guy. Figured I'd come back to him later. Elden ring is my first souls game so I figured I'd level and learn a bit before fighting him. So far I'm enjoying it more than I thought I was going to.
I hope you're still having fun with the game and able to overcome some of the many challenges. I'm hoping for an Angry Review no matter how late the review is. I'm thoroughly enjoying the hell out of this game. My main genre are RPG's and while there are soooo many good ones out there, this game was a breath of fresh air where you just gotta get out there and figure stuff out on your own.
I watched the trailers, read the Metacritic reviews, watched UA-cam reviews. All of them praised this game for its open world and lore, exploration, mini side quests from random character encounters, etc. I was expecting the next Skyrim or Breath of the Wild. Instead I got Dark Souls 4 with a horse.
I assume people saw "Open-World" and thought it would basically be Far Cry or Fallout with a medieval skin. Finally From was going to make a game that was just like everything else in the industry but with a unique fantasy setting!
@@geodude3966 All those things you mentioned ARE in the game, it's just not designed like a bethesda or nintendo game which is another reason why it's so successful. You should really try it again since the reason it's so highly praised is not only due to how it's similar to BotW and Skyrim but because of the ways it's NOT similar. One thing I noticed all those reviews also say is that along with all those things this is an open world dark souls so if you expected it to be not like the previous games that's on you. Can you find me a single review that doesn't remind you that this is still a dark souls game?
Why is Joe playing this game when he looks like he hasn't slept in like 4 days. Dude has no energy, barely reading the tutorial prompts, and closing his eyes during dialog. Still entertaining but I'm not holding my breath for a full review.
SOme pieces of advice: -Explore, do not hesitate to explore, a LOT, while the game is HUGE, it is densely packed with stuff to find, enemies to confront and rewards to collect, it is an Open world, where Exploration is (mostly) rewarded. And there is MANY secrets to find. Be wary that the game doesn't scale around you, so you'll end up in places that you're under leveled and have no business and get your ass handed to you. -There is always (in 80% of the casses at least) Another way or another solution to a problem. Once again, its an Open world, if you're stuck someplace or on something, go back and explore a bit more and find something else to do, sometimes you'll find a key item, or a piece of gear/spell/weapon that will GREATLY help you with the obstacle that you had. -DOn't be afraid to upgrade your weapons, you'll find LOTS of items that allows to upgrade your weapons, while you won't be able to Upgrade EVERY weapons in a single run, you can have a couple of weapons that are upgraded. WHile your stats are important, it is the level of upgrades that do factor in the most when damage are calculated. -DO NOT SKIP ON VIGOR, no matter the kinda build you wanna make, be at least in the 25-30 Vigor is a huge boon. Seen too many people running with 15 Vigor then complaining that the NPC's and Bosses where One shotting them... -If you struggle, when you can, USE THE SPIRIT SUMMONS, no matter what anyone says, if they are IN the game, its for a reason, they are an integral part of the game, you can challenge yourself to not use them, but it would be a shame honestly. -Depending on personal tastes/believes, do not hesitate to watch some builds or early guides, there is QUITE a lot of weapons/spells and Ashes of War that you can pick VERY EARLY in the game, to get an headstart with any kinda build you have in mind. Preparation can make a difference. -Use the custom markers on the map!, there is a LOT of things that you can find, and Outside key locations and NPC's, Sites of Graces, anything else is NOT marked on the map, so its up to you to do it. -Contrary to other Souls games, you can Jump at will, Jumping attacks can also greatly help. -Don't sleep on crafting and crafting recepies books, most of the items that be really usefull and are relatively easy to make. -Don't agonize too much about your build/stats if you made a mistake. You can respec, it does require you to beat a Story boss in a later Zone and it require an item that is not infinite and that is a drop loot, but it is possible to redo completly a character. -HAve fun, YES its still a Souls game, with its challenge, but Fromsoft gave much more tools in the toolbox for you to choose from, making it more "accesible" but not neccesarly easy.
As a souls born vet I gotta say this one in particular is very hard to put down i broke night a few times already just searching for caves and little goodies looking at the gorgeous view this one ill be playing for a while
I think you went in to this with the wrong mindset, think of it like a Breath of the wild Dark souls 4 :P you have to understand you dont have to toss yourself up against a wall like the golden knight or margit, just go and explore, there are like 20 more bosses in the beginning before you go to margit. just get the: oooh what's over there aah my son can w8 or the elden ring can w8! u feel me :P hope you go in with this mindset next time, because i think you will enjoy it way way more! love u guy! It's kind of fun to watch someone who has no idea what's going on. It's a little bit surprising how many people are picking this game up as their first Fromsoft game. I think Dark Souls 1 or Demon's Souls are more approachable entries into the series to learn the ropes. Elden Rings is basically Dark Souls 3 but massively expanded, and Dark Souls 3 was already a very deep and expansive game.
@@unafflictedgaming It is if you persist and come out the other end. Everybody's first souls game is the hardest because you need to learn what all the stats mean, what each items are for and understanding the map design, on top of learning the combat mechanic. But when it clicks, it clicks hard and you can get addicted to it.
Find a good ash summon and level it up and rely on those for tough encounters. They can REALLY turn the tide, especially for people newish to the series. And agaisnt some optional bosses even for experienced players since they are so hard. And when you get mimic tear, you can REALLY go beast mode.
I think if you're super experienced though using the summons is both kinda cheap but also ruins the experience a bit. But play how you want, who cares.
this game is different because its open world instead of condensed. if a boss is kicking your butt you can move to a different area and come back. they've also evolved the flask system and i dont think the crafting system is as big in the souls games as here. they also added guard counter. finally, the game brings in folks like me that didnt like the souls games but likes the challenge. this game meshes "accessibility" with challenge to give you the best of both worlds. and the world is cool as hell.
This was my first Souls game and after about 30 minutes of fighting I beat Tree Sentinal with base stat's and gear. Was such a rewarding moment, only reason I could do it though is my friends who are super experienced in souls games telling me about two handing and the special move the samurai sword has etc, so it helped. The game definitely doesn't hold your hand so it's good to have some guidance from friends I think.
Joe: Use jump strong attack attack to break enemy pose. Use block + strong attack after a sucessful block to counter hit. Use a normal attack while snaking a enemy rear to start a execute animation.
Alex being a souls veteran and all i commend him for having patience with Joe and not telling him a damn thing like there little to no tutorials, no easy mode and the fact he has to lock on enemies for efficient combat.. He's really letting him figure out literally everything on his own lmao
with the open world structure there's a lot more room for doing other content like grinding mobs and side dungeons and getting stronger to come back and whoop the boss that whooped you, imo definitely lean into the rpg elements you'd be surprised how much grinding helps in these games
Says the mechanics are the same as Dark Souls and it is just a reskin, then proceeds to be confused about the mechanics.............and just about everything else in the game.😐
I tried this guy for 5 hrs. died many times, but slowly picked his attack patterns and when i can steal a hit or two. Man felt good that i learned and beat him. :D
Magic makes a lot of things easier in the over world, but it makes a lot of the bosses a whole lot harder to deal with. A good many of them are too fast, aggressive, and will one shot you the second you try to cast a spell on them. Magic being easy mode is inaccurate. Eventually you will still need to "git good".
@@tennesseeheckler3014 True, I played a little bit of magic also and I think it requires good placement and timing sorceries (at least when it comes to bosses where you don't have a summon to distract).
I know that this is probably obvious but they said that the pc port has significant frame drops and the developers themselves are working on fixing that
AJ sure loses load of runes when he either dies again or simply does not get his dropped runes back. Also he keeps walking up to enemies disregarding stealth portion totally.
i hope joe didnt review it with rush gameplay what you need in this game is 1. patience 2. learn moveset 3. memorize moveset 4. enemy get stronger at upper level so you got to focus on 2 or 3 stat 5. dodge went enemies weapon half of their strike toward you, dont dodge early because you will be panic roll and has less stamina to attack
Are you sure about that? I love these games but ngl first getting into them requires a bit of effort and not many people want to put effort into a game, its the same mindset that has killed rpgs and immersive sims.
this game DIGS DEEP with its claws, addition is real. I'm AFK farming right now too haha. My only complaint with PC is "Connection Lost" Returning to your World, when co-op with friends.
@@The_Primary_Axiom It is, it's just that much like the weapons and skills, you have to seek it out and piece it together.
Well it’s hilarious because the game is designed for everyone to get into it technically … but it’s still absolutely brutal as all the other souls games lmao so that doesn’t help for newer players who don’t understand the difficulty design philosophy of the souls games. Since it's open world I think you can get powerful really fast by exploring since nothings really off limits (mostly)
I sure do!
Could you link me to that tutorial please man if you get a chance? Still haven't found a ways to have summons in a separate system 😂

Basically you just go to menu and see the pouch on the right side of your screen. You can assign stuff for those slots and activate them by keeping interaction button (triangle /Y as default) pressed and then hit the chosen direction from D-pad.
You can check the original tutorials as they are in form of scrolls in your inventory.
Hope that helps!
If you want better instructions, just write "Elden ring pouch guide" to Google :)

I really liked that AJ and OJ get closer and closer to beating the boss after repeated attempts. That’s the best part. It is doable even if one is under leveled. Seems like they learned the pattern of attack.
I'm about 27 hours in and still haven't killed the Tree Sentinel, so props to you guys for taking him on up front! So entertaining to watch.
Just bait his charge attack and punish. That's the one move he has with no followups
I killed him in the first 10 minutes
Coming back later to one-shot Tree Sentinel? Maybe embarrass him a bit for his arrogance? His cousins at the capital aren't gonna like that 🤭
The weirdest thing watching new people play Souls is that their perception that the game is meant to be "brutally difficult" actually causes them to make the game harder for themselves than it actually needs to be. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy, you perceive the game to be impossible/impassable and so when you hit what is clearly a difficulty spike instead of thinking of ways to deal with it (now or potentially later) you go "SEE, I TOLD THIS GAME WAS BS."
Exactly. Honestly this applies to so much of life in general
I love the broken game excuse 🤣

The main advice I would give them is to dodge into your enemy and don't be afraid to stay close to them. When you dodge away, often you're distancing yourself from being able to attack them. Just my two cents!
The giant is not a boss they are a common enemy throughout the world. A boss is when a the big red life bar appears on the bottom of the screen.
The whole point is exploring and finding more areas, loot, bosses, etc., but there is the lore that gets you invested with attention to detail around it.

why did so many people think that elden ring would not be open world dark souls?
What's funnier is the people using that as an insult not realizing it's exactly what we want.

SOme pieces of advice:
-Explore, do not hesitate to explore, a LOT, while the game is HUGE, it is densely packed with stuff to find, enemies to confront and rewards to collect, it is an Open world, where Exploration is (mostly) rewarded.

Big fan from sweden here! :D
after you get your horse dont 4get to goo back to the ruins near the tree sentinel guy so you can get a summon of wolves, it will greatly help.

Find a good ash summon and level it up and rely on those for tough encounters. They can REALLY turn the tide, especially for people newish to the series. And agaisnt some optional bosses even for experienced players since they are so hard. And when you get mimic tear, you can REALLY go beast mode.

@@tennesseeheckler3014 True, I played a little bit of magic also and I think it requires good placement and timing sorceries (at least when it comes to bosses where you don't have a summon to distract).
My only complaint is that when I watch these vods on the ps4 YT, I get 2 ads ~ very 5 minutes…
its happening quite frequently on PC as well.
Alex “ I got strong thumbs “ lmao
lol i love watching joe being a noob :) love your commitment dude!
lmao alex sitting in the back
seeing joe getting the multiplayer work is probably the funniest shit iv seen this whole week
Dark Souls doesn't explain anything to you either.
It drops you into the game and says, "Good luck loser."
I know that this is probably obvious but they said that the pc port has significant frame drops and the developers themselves are working on fixing that
*skips tutorials*
"I don't know what's going on!"
This is the longest angry review ever!!!
AJ sure loses load of runes when he either dies again or simply does not get his dropped runes back. Also he keeps walking up to enemies disregarding stealth portion totally.
the point imho is not to farm the same area unless you are actually enjoying it. Explore the map and gain runes while you are doing it.
i hope joe didnt review it with rush gameplay
what you need in this game is
1. patience
2. learn moveset
3. memorize moveset
4. enemy get stronger at upper level so you got to focus on 2 or 3 stat
5. dodge went enemies weapon half of their strike toward you, dont dodge early because you will be panic roll and has less stamina to attack
I swear Joe purposely acts oblivious sometimes, like the game isn't has hard to figure out as joe is making it out to be
Are you sure about that? I love these games but ngl first getting into them requires a bit of effort and not many people want to put effort into a game, its the same mindset that has killed rpgs and immersive sims.
@@Sleptrockthat’s what he’s saying…video gamers break easily and don’t try
I love these three. Im never gonna stop watching them
I'm happy Joe is giving this game a chance I know he doesn't care for souls games.
this game DIGS DEEP with its claws, addition is real. I'm AFK farming right now too haha. My only complaint with PC is "Connection Lost" Returning to your World, when co-op with friends. Trying to summon others, you'll get the "Unable to Summon" even though you see fresh signs on the ground (you eventually get a summoning though) Over all, I'm 130 loving it and still haven't beating it yet.
Damn other joe is the real gamer here, i thought that was alex playing at first.
