So many bad takes on Elden Ring out there, but I think I've found the WORST ones. Normally, I would link the videos to provide context for my criticisms but almost every video by Quantum TV and Red Bandana Gaming were deleted. Still, they doubled down on their terrible takes so I don't feel bad about making fun of them.

Yeah, the one game that's actually trying to be for everyone is WoW imho ... and that's what makes the game increasingly worse. How about pleasing half of MMO fans (which is still a LOT of people) and disappointing the other half, instead of slightly disappointing EVERYONE :D. Trying to make a game for everyone is guaranteed recipee for making bad game.

The paradox of this statement is that if you dumbed down Elden Ring to be for babies, then you’d turn away all the fans that love the challenge, ergo, it’s not for them anymore. There is literally no way to achieve this standard for anything ever, game or otherwise.
But Quantum abuses DMCA to silence criticism so fuck whatever he has to say anyway.
That statement made me physically say what. I dont like puzzle games so should all puzzle games not be made? I feel like I lost brain cells after hearing that.

when he said this I immediately just thought of different gaming genres. not everyone like fps, not everyone likes rpgs, not everyone likes racing games, not everyone likes horror games. does that mean these genres shld just be deleted?
People need to just accept that every game isnt going to please them, and thats ok, doesnt mean its inherintly bad (unless its a broken unbalanced piece of shit, obvs)
And hell, even on the opposite side people gotta realize people wont see eye to eye on things. Ppl gotta agree to disagree too, thats the problem so many of these reviewers have
I couldn’t enjoy Elden Ring much when I bought it. I was just not good. I was bad at difficult action games.
Recently, I picked up Cuphead which has a beautiful difficulty curve and finally realized why people love extremely challenging boss fights. The first time I defeated a Cuphead boss, the rush set in. It was a very different sense of progress. It was not a level up or ticking off an item in a list of quests. The progress was in my head. I had gotten better with my reflexes and control and the progress was saved in my head. I started a new game and my brain immediately knew how to react. It made me realize that you can progress through difficult challenges if you open your mind and embrace failures without giving up. This has now become an IRL philosophy for me.
I thus picked up Elden Ring again. And now I can’t put it down.

The solaire-git gud video from vldl also helped.
I got Elden Ring. It wasn’t for me. I could see why people liked it though.

My exact experience w the game rn. I put it down after killing margit for like 3 months then came back and killed godrick and put it down again for like 2 years. I am now about 60 hours into my first play through and 90% of that occurred within that last week.

I think the fact that Mischief now has more subscribers than Quantum T.V is the best example of poetic justice I've seen in awhile .....

a racing game is not made for people that dont like racing games

a sports game is not made for the people that dont like sports games
and so on
exclusivity is not a bad thing, more often than not its better because spreading your approach thin, leaves your substance almost run dry so not trying to appeal to the most audiences possible means there's more resources poured into the experience. the world has gotten so bothered by making everything about inclusivity and accessibility (which the latter is fine) that they end up harming the quality of the product, and its kinda sad to see tbh
Exactly. What exactly is a game made for everyone? That's a pretty arbitrary thing anyway because you can never please all of the people all of the time.
When I played Elden Ring for the first time, I had never played a souls game. I got stuck on the soldier of godrick in the tutorial cave for 10 attempts. But even I was not stupid enough to attack the first NPC. Also, after playing for only a short while (around getting to Godrick/Ranni), I had a good grasp of mechanics of the game. If you actually TRY to learn the game, you can do it. If you just sit and complain when you are too bad to get past an enemy or too idiotic and stubborn to actually talk to NPCs, you will obviously not get anywhere.

I don't get people who hate on souls borne esque games for being too hard. Its like watching a horror movie and getting pissed its not a comedy.
It's a very narcissistic view on things. "If I can't enjoy it, why does it even exist?" I didn't like the Soulsborne series until Bloodborne and Sekiro came out. But I wouldn't want Demon Souls or Dark Souls to not exist. The playstyle of those games just don't appeal to me. That's fine.

Considering it took me 8 months of quitting and retrying the first level of Demon's Souls before beating it and finally understanding how the game worked I am in the best position to say people give up too easily. 40 hours later I had the Platinum trophy.

After finally just starting elden ring yesterday i don't see how ppl still think it is hard, i mean hell, they have many ways to easily get runes even going as far as to give a seemingly unlimited way of getting golden rune (1)s, all u have to do is run around and break glowing skulls, go back to a grace to reset, find and break more, rinse and repeat

All of these people with shit reviews and game devs with terrible takes think games have only 2 possible setups for players. It's the most linear hand holding as possible because we wouldn't want the players to have any ideas of their own or get lost or have to think. Or have it setup so you can just be a total murder hobo with no consequence or boundaries in the game whatsoever.
There are only 2 sides and it's the complete extremes. Nuance in game design? Pfft, wow you must be terrible at making games!
Reminds me of this time I saw a complaint about undertale where they were angry you were locked out of the true/best ending if you killed someone. And that if you killed everyone (which is a very difficult thing to do accidentally), you’re permanently punished.
Some ppl just hate the idea of any form of consequences in video games.
This was my first time ever playing any kind of souls game and honestly I love elden ring - personally I didn’t find it super challenging overall definitely some boss that killed me dozens of times tho 😂 but none of my deaths were cheap - they were just me making mistakes I learned from my mistakes and overcame the bosses - I think that’s a great feeling and message to learn from your mistakes and overcome adversity to make yourself better
If only we knew from the start that Quantum had lied about ever even picking up the controller...

Ignoring the fact that you don't lose everything, just your runes, which you can easily pick up with a button press. Y'know what game you actually do lose EVERYTHING when you die? I always leveled up Vigor/Vitality in Demon's Souls because of the item weight limit, so by doing that, I was able to both carry more items and have higher HP as well.
@Christopher Regan Funny thing is you don't even need THAT much vigor to prevent yourself from being 1 shotted, with just 25 vigor my character still managed to survive getting hit by Rahdan...did I still panic roll till I used my last flask...yes, but still lol
or do what the average player does: use a wiki.
This way you can find out what are the good builds, where the good/important items are, the good tactics to beat each boss and how to realistically do the questlines.
I am not entirely sarcastic either, just look at the percentages of the achievements. The secret ending that requires you to do a questline has more completions than the standard ending (6.5% more as of now). This means that among the people that completed the game only once and got only 1 of the endings there are more players that got the secret ending. To get this kind of consistency in Elden Ring's contrived questlines it means that most of the players used a guide in their fist playthrough.

Art is subjective as story is so yeah that's why Graphical Fidelity is of "almost" universal praise but people like fortnite which isn't realistic or artistically brilliant so yeah... Saying Art good is usually subjective.
One brilliant bit of art direction is how no matter where you are in the world, you can always see the Erdtree. When you get to the mountaintops of giants and see that you're almost into the stratosphere yet still can't see the top of the Erdtree, it really sells how massive and impressive it is, and it makes it all the sweeter when the endgame arrives and you can finally go inside of it.

On your first playthrough unless you watch lore videos, you’ll have no idea what’s going on and the story doesn’t make sense. The game doesn’t do a good job storytelling. I had no idea why I was fighting half the bosses, or why I had to fight maliketh and the godskin duo after the fire giant even though I already burned the erdtree. It’s a valid point.

I said before that the first guys review was FAR WORSE than Quantums, he didn't even play the game what so ever, but he wasn't such a huge POS as a human being and didn't dig his grave deeper and deeper like Quantum did. Quantum simply doesn't understand THATS what caused him all this pain, not his review, but his sh*tty-ness as a human being did. He genuinely is a bigoted, hateful, spiteful, little man filled with hubris and unjustified confidence (if its not just an act to cover up what I assume are his many many insecurities). Wishing gay people to have been murdered in the PULSE shooting and even beyond that, his comment history is an illuminating insight into the mind of a deeply troubled and unstable person.

these videos are one of the biggest reasons i got back into elden ring. for a long time i was so consumed by the rune aspect that i was pissed no matter how i died. i took a better look at the game and realized it's more than just a boss killing game. i guess it only took some horrible hot takes for me to realize how good the game was

Funny thing is, when I first got elden ring it was my first souls like game, I dont know how but I missed the tutorial, i went outside, was amazed by the graphics, purposefully attacked varre cuz funny, died a ton, then killed them after getting used to it WITHOUT LOCK ON and then still loved the game, found out killing varre was bad cuz rip early mohgwyn, and now a thousand hours later I still love it
Never played a souls game and was intimidated by the “difficulty”. 130 hrs later and it’s one of my favorites of all time, right up there with RDR2, Skyrim and New Vegas.
And besides, isn't Elden Ring the most accessible FromSoftware game? The whole Ashes and Summons thing really make the game a cakewalk and it doesn't take too much effort to initially access them. I feel like Ashes and Summons IS the easy mode. It's really cool that they built an easy mode into the game without actually making the game easier.

@@YasaiTsume having been here since Dark Souls 1, yes. Elden Ring is easily the most accessible FromSoft title. That doesn't mean it's easy, but the game gives you so much right off the bat. Get stuck somewhere? Move on, explore, find a dungeon and get a sick new piece of gear to level and use. The game is only as hard as you make it on yourself. It gives you the tools, you just need to learn how to use them. You're going to die, yes, and it WILL be frustrating, but if you learn from those mistakes you'll begin to die far less frequently. Two years later I'm here as a first time player on souls games. Picked up Elden ring literally 4 days ago. I'm getting absolutelly shit on by every single enemy. And I can safely say this game is fucking amazing.

Personally I dislike ER because it is just so very janky. I can deal with some level of weird input schemes in action RPG's - I love both witcher and gothic after all. But the souls games just deviate too far from anything that I consider enjoyable game design and hence I do not enjoy them. Why is the pause function hidden in a submenu for example? If you can look past these things and enjoy the game, I'm happy for you but personally I expect more polish on functional game elements.
Someone who pretends that this puts me on the level of Quantum TV just isn't someone I can take serious.
@@stefankuhn7830 I like the way you present your dislike for the game, you don’t really come off as an asshole, but the pause function isn’t meant to be a thing to enhance the experience. Everywhere in elden ring is meant to keep you on edge, thats the whole point, and adding a pause feature would mess with that experience. If you want to pause and have a break, then you can take the time to go through the menus and do the weird pause menu thing.
I die in two hits also, but I am just dumb and level strength, Dex, endurance, and faith(or what ever faith is in the game) so I literally get two shot from the most easiest bosses. My viger is currently at 26 so I have no health.

Something SO incredibly and obviously, factually incorrect, but also with an antagonistic attitude where he tells Elden Ring fans to kill themselves, that they're losers with no life and no family or friends, that the game looks bad, that people who like it are FUCKING ABUSE VICTIMS (honestly the rest of the shit was funny but as someone who was assaulted in multiple ways by a female stalker i had at university, that shit genuinely made me angry) all because that fucking retard couldn't figure out basic shit, and made ZERO attempt to learn about it, ask questions of the fanbase, or spend some time understanding it. As someone that’s always been the type to hate solo games or non FPS games. This game is freaking amazing. I’ve never felt so eager to play a game before than Elden ring or at least since BO2 and prime Fortnite. Sure, it’s definitely harder for me as a player who’s never had to deal with rolling, combo attacks, which element is better against a boss, which one isn’t. It makes me realize that just shooting or movement will NOT get you a win or even better in general. Strategic solutions and thinking outside the box is absolutely needed for this game and I freaking love that. I genuinely believe that’s what games should be made to be. Strategic and helping you think outside the box. Even dying is something you need to take into consideration. It puts me at an edge where I am like “omg, I’m gonna die” and kicks my flight or fight and survivability skills. I’ve never felt this rush of adrenaline being chased by a Knight Calvary or trying to heal and Godrick just throws air at me until now 😂. I’m so glad that the game isn’t easy. Because why would I pay $60 just for a game to be beaten in less than a week or even a month? I want to sit down and enjoy the game. I want to seriously learn while playing, grow as I play. That’s what I believe games are for. Not just “shoot, heal, runaway, heal again, then shoot and dance on him”. I understand what they’re saying and where they are coming from. But this game is so much more than just “game too hard for me so it’s bad”.

I think it's funny how Quantum constantly brings up the fact that he's new to the franchise and tries to use it as an argument for why Elden Ring is bad, yet literally EVERYONE who's played a DS game before was also new to the franchise at one point, and they all got by just fine. Only problem I had with Elden Ring was the lock-on. Might've been my shitty controller, but when I would press the lock-on, it wouldn't lock on.
I feel that elden ring is the most accessible out if the souls games, since you can just go a farm some Ai while exploring getting fat on runes for upgrades, every boss has a super weakness so people saying it's too hard are crazy man, this game is the easiest out if all of the souls games but you the player can make it hard just by not exploring fully and just going after the bosses.

Hard disagree. Sekiro has that title as the lack of rpg mechanics means there's no need to find a good build and you can instantly start learning the mechanics. This also makes it potentially more challenging due to not being able to cheese wins by over leveling.

The fact that Elden Ring is open world means that if there's a boss you're having trouble with, you can just run away and explore somewhere else. The best part is, everywhere in Elden Ring's open world is lovingly crafted.

15:00 I've beaten dark souls 1 several times, I've beaten Elden ring once. I've decided to play dark souls 2 scholar of the first sin. And i decided to play bloodborne.
I have rage quit dark souls 2 at least 5 times and am forcing myself to play through to the end. I got my meat slapped by bloodborne because i am a very heavy armor tower shield kind of player, and bloodborne does not give you that option.
100% I'm gonna play dark souls 3 and demon souls and Sekiro after beating dark souls 2 and yeah, i think "I've beaten other fromsoft games, how hard can this be?" And i get annihilated every single time. You are meant to learn patience and humility from these games. I 100% agree with you Actman and just wanted to add on what you were saying.

I absolutely agree and a lot of the media works in similar ways by exaggerating things for clicks, it's unfortunately a method that gets attention. In QuantumTV's case though it goes much much deeper than that. It started off being about Elden Ring until he threatened to copyright strike Mischief and some other UA-camr's called him out for it and people discovered some really nasty things he's said which continues to this day. It's a deep rabbit hole.
