@@thomasdevlin5825that's why I like the avionettes ashes. They aren't too powerful, but it is a lot of fun seeing them flying around and spinning like beyblades
Miyazaki was right. I played this whole game with my jellyfish, leveling him up to +10. Did not even know some ashes could be useful, i thought only taking aggro from me once per bossfight is good enough
Deenh was my spirit ash of choice for my first playthough. She was literally my life saver by taking agro so I could heal. And because of that, she’s always been my favourite too.
I knew Mimic Tears would make number one with it being the best possible one If you actually know what to do, but if you don't it could place literally anywhere in the list.
7:15 My favorite part about these guys is that every translation had to slip in some sort of reference to "The A-Team". Their Japanese name is "Kamikaze Attack Bastards", which was what the show was called in Japan, the English name is a pun on the "Soldiers of Fortune" bit from the intro, and the French description is a riff on Hannibal's catchphrase "I love it when a plan comes together" (in this case, "I love it when a plan ends in pieces"). Absolutely godawful in gameplay, but top tier in terms of goofy references.
33:11 it should be noted that Ogha can actually follow an order from the player. If you use one of the Roaring Ashes of War (Barbaric Roar, Braggart’s Roar, Warcry, Beast Roar, Troll’s Roar, Shriek of Milos) he will fire a rain of greatarrows upon the enemy. Works great for characters that already use the roars in their build, but for those that don’t, you can just put Beast Roar on a dagger. It’s always good to have a projectile on you so you can keep up the poise damage on a boss, and when you fire off the roar, Ogha will respond with his own rain of arrows. It’s a fun, underutilized effect he comes with that makes him unique to other summons.
Ow that is kinda a cool thing will have to try that out at some point. Maybe I can find a mod that can increase the health and poise of enemies and go for a playthrough where I can summon anywhere. Be a bit of a buddy thing. Will just have to avoid %hp damage.
Wasn’t the black knife assassin and mimic tear super op ? I haven’t played since release basically but i remember those snd the sht guy’s ashes were super good
@@Insideman666 Tiche is as good as she has always been - as far as I know the ash was never changed. The Mimic was slightly tuned down, especially in sorcerer builds that delete bosses with Comet Azure. You also have to remember that the Mimic is an exact copy of you, including equipment, Ashes of War and spells. This means that the Mimic varies wildly in capabilities, weaknesses and strengths depending on your character. One example: You're a squishy caster who wants a tank summon - the Mimic is not a good pick in that case because it is just as squishy as your char. Or if you're a melee character who wants long range support in a fight where the boss runs away all the time (like Elden Beast) your Mimic doesn't bring much to the table either because it's occupied with chasing the boss just like you. There's a summon Rusty ranked too low in my opinion btw: Latenna the Albinauric. Yes she's stationary and squishy and therefore doesn't work for any build because she can't tank anything, but her range and damage output is insane. Take the arena of Dragonlord Placidusax for example: Summon her at the columns - far away from the boss - and she will still cover basically the entire arena. She's a great summon for tank builds that can keep the aggro away from her and survive while she deals all the damage. She looses a bit of damage against the more agile bosses because she'll miss occasionaly, but her damage output is still substantial even in these cases. There's nothing more fun than Malekith getting shot right out of the air while he jumps and whirls around for like 50 seconds.
@@HH-hd7ndI basically cheesed the fuck out of him doing that by staying on the outer rings of the arena , dodging around with quick steps away from her , and he never even entered his second phase, he just kept trying to lightning bolt me to death uselessly while she unloaded shot after shot until his death
I love spirit summons that let me feel like I'm fighting a boss as "me and the boys". Albinaurics, Greatshield Soldiers, Wandering Nobles, Oracle Envoys, Souljars and all the faction soldier ashes. Love 'em to bits.
Believe it or not, despite how bad Noble Sorcerer is, he was actually the soul reason I defeated Rennala the first time. I was at a sliver of hp, with the only summon I could summon, with no crimson or cyrullian flasks, and that absolute unit Glintstone pebbled Rennala in the middle of one of her summons and it actually kicked her out of the summon…then he spammed her as quick as he possibly could till she died…I have no clue how it happened but it did
That’s so awesome cause his description says he was so bad at magic he got denied a place to study at raya lucaria, and then you gave him the opportunity to prove himself by glintstone pebbling the academy headmaster to death lol.
@@Crackheadcentral2188 Invade someone and hide near a difficult enemy (preferably, there is nearby clutter) When the host is distracted, seize the opportunity
Yeah..... I was going to try beating that boss without a summon, and after a few attempts chat asked me to bring out the mimic just for science... I was horrified to watch it pretty much solo Rykard... it was hilarious .
And if you equip another great spear on your other hand, you and your mimic tear can powerstance and the wind like power is applied to both weapons. its a amusing sight to see kakaka
Using talisman that makes you look like the host also makes your mimic full color. So exactly like you! Then you can fight mimic tear. So there will be 3 of you fighting lol. More funny if they’re all naked.
I like using Godrick soldiers for my Godrick build. Their names are Mark and Estaban, and theyre like the two henchmen a big bad villain knows full well are useless but they got charm so he lets them be.
To say Tiche “solos weaker bosses” is a criminal understatement. My +10 Tiche solo-ed MOHG. Fricking MOHG. I did nothing but pop Golden Vow at the start and watched her slice him into swiss cheese.
I mean it's a little RNG based...her damage isn't that high EXCEPT if she uses her black knife ability which just melts through the boss's hp like it's nothing (the hit does high damage, the drain even more and the maxhp reduction is substantial if it doesn't expire in a critical moment). Some times she'll just be thrown around by the boss being utterly useless, other times she swings the black knife three times in a row and (this happened to me aswell) kills Mogh's 2nd phase all by herself before he's done with his 2nd combo and me not even realizing what happened (thank you Nvidia Experience for always recording the last 10min, otherwise I would've been clueless). That was the last time I took her with me...I just wanted some help distracing the boss, not be the help that distracts him
This is something I only realised later in my first playthrough but I actually got really attached to banised knight oleg like he was my real companion during my adventure. I even remember getting hyped when he would finish a boss.
@@8Kazuja8 I got sad at the end of my first playthrough because I realized Mimic and greatshield/Crystalian/Latenna were all getting used way more than Oleg, who literally carried my n00b behind thru Limgrave, Weeping Penisula and Liurnia on his back.
I think my favorite is honestly Latenna. Something you didnt mention and something I find really neat is that if you summon her near one of the wolves, she can tame, mount, and ride it. Its a really neat attention to detail.
there is a little caveat to the mimic tear, and that's when using any great runes that increase stats (like godricks), the mimic tear can't copy that and instead will be running around with weapons it can't use. This also means that you can pop a great rune before a mimic tear fight, use a weapon you can only use with godricks great rune active, and watch the mimic tear do a bunch of attacks it can't do and deal absolutely no damage. Also i found out that you can put pots in your quick menu inventory and the mimic tear would use as many as you have crafted, so if you want, get 4 poison pots, 4 rot pots, 4 frost pots, and some others, and have that mimic tear apply a myriad of status on the enemy. Yes, this works with sleep pots on the godskin duo. If you want, you can equip the tankiest build known to man with all the status pots in your inventory, walk into a boss fight, summon mimic, re-equip your actual normal build, and then all of a sudden you have a walking tank that can apply status build ups like nobody's business as well as tank damage like a champ.
So basically the Mimic Tears only weakness (that being the build it's copying potentially) is also a strength...I wonder why people love it so much lmao
I feel like the first one is a skill issue. Why would you center your build around stats you don't actually have lol I use Godrick as an extra bonus, not to get to the basics, and like, unless I'm blanking on certain gear, pretty much everything with a min requirement would want you to drop a lot of levels in those anyway for scaling
the fact that mimic tear can use flame grant me strength golden vow and blasphemous blade while also healing itself with blasphemous blade seems like a war crime in itself ngl…that shit broken asf
Mad pumpkin head has one very good benefit that pushes him a little higher in my book. His pumpkin head takes a severely reduced amount of damage compared to the rest of his body and if he faces most big bosses head on he tanks for ridiculously long amounts of time.
I used him exclusively my first playthrough I love that guy so much. The way he will tank and smash and bleed anything and then walk off into a corner and just hit his head against the ground :') that's my boy
Strangely enough, this video made me realise how much we need a Zamor Hero summon. It would probably be OP but I just love looking at them somehow. Their fighting style is awesome
I think Zulithewitch actually did a video covering them and it turns out zamor hero ash summons did exist along side I think 2 or 3 other mobs who don't have summons rn
I'm not 100% certain but I think in the lore there were something like 16 crucible knights in existence who served in Godfrey's army right? And in game we only encounter 14-15. That being said, a crucible knight summon would be so badass. It'd be really op, ofc, but badass nonetheless
The difference between this video and Ms. Chalice is staggeringly hilarious lmao. Chalice is nice and sweet even to the worst of them. Rusty is just rusty 🤣
I like how Deenh can fit into your build "lore-wise". If you're summoning him, chances are it's for the 20% physical & poise damage buff, and if you're prioritizing physical & poise damage, chances are you're using some flavor of a Strength build. Nepheli implies barbaric warriors fought alongside Warhawk companions, and Deenh becomes yours.
The disappointment and absolute hilarity that ensued the first time I picked up Noble Sorcerer Is something I'll never forget. The game had just come out, me and a friend were exploring Limgrave for the first time and... "oh wait, noble sorcerer? that sounds sick" was quickly followed by "wait... it's... it's just an old dude" and we couldn't stop laughing at him just bumbling about😂
29:20 Pretty sure the Land Squirts dont summon in random locations, but they will summon in set locations in each boss Arena. Theyll always summon in the same location of Red Wolf of Radagon, theyll always be in the same place of Makars arena. They have set summon points
Really Finlay should have the most health of any summon to be lore accurate (and shame for not mentioning her lore!). Girl carried Malenia from Caelid to the Haligtree by herself taking down everything in her way. She might not be the best to us, but she’s by far the greatest entity made into an ash. Maybe we simply never gained her loyalty enough
i was gonna say the same thing! finlay's lore always deserves a mention. i wish summoning her against malenia triggered some sort of special dialogue, she deserves it for being literally the most dedicated npc in the lore.
@@ludovicacuoghi That would be evil, considering her ashes are found in the Haligtree. You just got these new Legendary Spirit Ashes, and level them up a bunch and decide to use them against Malenia. Then, suddenly, you're fighting two enemies. Not even the alleged Deathblight Swamp that looks to be in the DLC is that evil. It would be hilarious to watch someone's reaction to that though.
Fun fact: if you do any of the Roar Buff ashes of war near Ogha, he’ll use the rain of arrows ash of war. Absolutely ripped Placidusax a new one when I tried it out.
We both were casting Rain of Arrows after using Commander Standard's AoW and War Cry, but the Dragonlord made a long jump and closed the gap rather quickly, so Ogha switched to tank made and I stayed behind. After finishing the fight Ogha was still alive, I could have used War Cry to celebrate our víctory, but I didn't know that. So, yeah.
greatshield ashes are my favorite hands down. They are so hilariously effective at bullying bosses that are mostly physical damage. I was doing a randomizer, and they managed to trap Malenia in a corner in both of her phases.
So...bell bearing hunters were wrecking me my first playthrough so I'm terrified when I get to Shade Castle and have to fight Elemer. Those 5 greatshield dudes stuck him in a corner and kept him there the whole fight, staggering him just enough so that he never did that Sith sword thingie. Caelid Bell Bearing hunter killed me like 50 times after I killed Elemer which I thought was bullcrap and made me yearn for my guys but yeah.
the wiki has a page for ranking spirits based on how they perform against the same opponent - and they used the Draconic Tree Sentinel in Leyndell for testing. Using the same enemy is good for consistency and impartiality, but it’s important to remember that certain spirits will naturally perform better against that type of hard hitting armored enemy. So that list on the wiki isn’t a fully objective ranking.
Mimic isn't just the best, it's also the most fun to mess around with. There's a lot of different ways you can customize it. 1. It uses whatever equipment you're holding in your hands when you spawn it in, so you can do things like spawn it with a frostbite weapon and then switch to a fire one to keep resetting the frost it inflicts. 2. It has infinite FP so you can put it on healing duty as well as spellcasting duty and never worry about it running out of resources. Mimics make great ranged support. You can also influence its behavior by narrowing its options; for example, spawning it holding only a sacred seal and equipping a single incantation, like Giantsflame Take Thee. Congrats, you just made a mortar unit 3. It can use any consumable items equipped in your hotbar when you summon it, so you can give it limited-per-playthrough things like Uplifting Aromatic and gain the benefits without ever having to actually use them. Spawning a second you is enough to trivialize most bosses already, but if you're willing to go the extra mile, you can make some truly wild setups
#17: Latenna also has a unique but situational ability. If you summon her hear a Dire Wolf, she'll ride it and continue to fire arrows in motion. Keeps her alive easier and she will keep moving to avoid enemies while also letting the wolf attack if one gets too close.
@@redkingrauri3769 meh, I’ve never really found a use but I don’t use her often, imo summons like Ogha will always be more consistent because of the fact he can defend himself
Another thing great about Tiche is that she's surprisingly great at staggering enemies. Her big jump attack and that one blade drag do enough stagger damage to caused even Tree Sentinels to flinch.
Thank you so much for doing what you do. My family has been going through a rough patch past few months (medical issues, unexplainable job problems) and I started Elden Ring around the same time. Needless to say when I came across your videos they hit right at just the right time. I came to youtube this morning to look for something specific and now I can't remember what it was because I said to myself "Oh shit, Rusty has a new video..." and now I'm laughing at work while customers look toward the counter confused. Really appreciate your stuff.
Omen killer Rollo is a beast. It's a bit of a shame how out of all 64 summons, most of us will only ever bother to use around 5 of 'em. If you don't wanna use Mimic or Tiche, you're really only left with Rollo, Luhtel or Oleg. Never tried Stormhawk Deenh or Dung Eater though.
Deenh feels like a let down to me. He has all the advantages of flying summons but that doesn't make him immune to being hit and his hp isn't fantastic. The buff he gives is great, but only lasts for like 20 seconds.
Dung Eater's totally worth trying, if you don't mind potentially losing Boggart, can stand being around Seluvis for more than a few seconds and don't question the ethics of lobotomizing convicted killers. Dude can take some hits, he's got Bleed if you're into that, and his range and aggressive AI make him really good at keeping foes focused on him and not you. Really, aside from Mimic Tear's HP and versatility, there's not much more you could ask for in a summon.
I summoned pumpkin head for one of my malenia fights and it took that personally, it just slapped her around and she could only fight back during her hyperarmor window
I don't know why, but this is the first one of these videos that made me realize just how much time and effort goes into making them. I was thinking about just how long it'd take to capture a few seconds of each of the 64 summons.... then having to add the text with the effect of their name over each one... then capture gameplay footage in multiple fights. Like... dang... a lot of work. I very much appreciate it. :)
You actually made a really interesting point early on in the video about giving your summons more spells when they level up. An Elden Ring mod with evolving summons would actually be awesome
we already know that evolving summons are very much a thing that the game can manage too, the base game as is already has 1 that changes as it is leveled up... only 1... but 1 is all that's needed to prove that it can be done. that 1 is the rats. summons 3 rats by default, evolves to 4 at +6, evolves to 5 at +10. it's really disappointing that they limited this to the rats and nothing else. I feel most of those soldier summons could've benefitted from gaining some extra guys at higher levels. same for the nobles, demi-humans, and wolves. and if actually swapping out the spells a summon can cast is too much then perhaps just add a second guy with a different spell at +7 or something
There is actually a mod called Better Spirit Ashes that does this, among other changes. It’s quite good, though it’s hard to use alongside other mods. I can’t give up my overhauls, but if I could use it with The Convergence and its summoner builds, I would never let go Edit: I’m actually not sure about better spells upon level up, but many ashes do get more and/or stronger units as they level up
I remember switching from Mimic Tear to Kristoff on my main playthrough and while he's obviously worse, I kinda fell in love with him just not giving a shit about much of anything and he quickly became my preferred spirit summon. You also made me nearly spit out my drink with how you introduced him, good job.
Tbh I think Mimic tear is overrated I feel like maybe I'm using it wrong but my Mimic tear is so weak Kristoff on the other hand is an absolute unit who just tanks shots
Rusty deserves some kind of honorable award for his ability to use words so masterfully. he will go down in history as one who pioneered the spoken language of people in this day and age. best of his videos I've seen
I think the night maiden and sword stress were my favorites in my playthrough just cause it felt like a group effort to take down a boss for some strange reason
Marionette archers are still my go to outside of the Mimic. Are some of the other ranged summons probably better, yeah. But watching them turn bosses into pincusions is a good time. I've seen them do so much damage because they shoot so dang fast. I might need to try equiping the talisman that attracts more agro to make sure they don't get hit as much
Month old comment, but you should know that the Aggro talisman only works in co-op and has no effect in single player. It doesn’t make drawling aggro away from spirit ashes any easier.
Glad you ranked Oleg high. Even if he ain't at the top, he's my go to summon. His combos are just so sweet to watch and he's been with me from the beginning til the end. Never lets you down. This lil demolisher just has a special place in my heart. Thanks, Oleg
As a summon user i came to this video looking for a fun summon to use that wasn’t as busted as the mimic tear. Upon learning that the miranda sprouts existed i knew theyd be my new number 1. Thank you for bringing me to my new favorite and best summon i could ever ask for
Stormhawk Deenh is... yeah. It's the best summon for people who don't like summons. Perfect for my Claymore build because I can melt bosses' HP and Poise with the added buff like the Serpent Hunter glitch. I love him.
You have no idea how accurate that latenna thing is. I used her for a bonk build. The number of times I staggered enemies to save her as opposed to trying to simply DPS was insane lol
Banished Knight Engvall should be closer to his Banished Knight friend and they should both move up the list a bit imo. His dash attacks insta-stun any human-ish sized enemies. During my first playthrough, this saved me more times than I can count in the fight against Malenia. Knocking her out of a combo, beating her into a corner, putting her on the ground every other attack. Its busted.
Honestly, dude was my bodyguard for my first playthrough and my defining moment with him was when he used that storm jump attack to save me from a black knife grab. True Chad.
Bro, you have NO right to be this funny y'know, I could watch this for the info and entertainment and be completely satisfied, but no, you had to make my fucking day with 45 minutes of sheer chuckles on my bed you madman
I know I'm a special case as you mentioned, but I found the pumpkin head very useful for the rotting tree spirit in the dungeon in Radahn's arena. His huge stature makes him immune to the bullshit grab lunge Tree Spirit does all the time that (usually) instakills you, and being a spirit means he can't be scarlet rotted. GRANTED, from what I remember I mostly used him as an aggro distraction and he requires like 104 FP to summon, so good luck using him as a non-magic build
@tacticsogreman I'd much rather add a few points into mind and get maximum usage of my wondrous physick, especially now with the new dlc tears like the deflect one or the tear that actually buffs your ashes
@@nem6191 I'm running a melee build with 20 points in mind anyway😂 Haven't touched DLC yet. Quite excited tbh about new tears and talismans. But first, I must complete my training at Malenia dojo lol Infinite fp comes in handy for that as my goal ain't necessarily to beat her just yet. Popping off a heavy fp summon for free is a good way to start.
Thank you for saying most of the spirits names. I like to listen to your stuff when I work and laughing my ass off. Really Helps keep up with what's going on.
My favorite 5(Most of these are personal attachments than usefulness) 1. Luhtel 2. Nightmaiden & Swordstress Duo 3. Jellyfish 4. Fingermaiden 5. Latenna Stormhawk Deenh and Sleep Puppet are fun to use too
@@jagoz7465It's really not a great attacker, like not at all. The poison buildup it gets is very good in early game and melts through enemies but lacks a little in late game. I think the greatest factor for the Jellyfish is that once it gets attention, you can use that little bit of time to collect your thoughts, because that thing is a tank.
I watched your entire video and don't you know how happy I was when I saw the Mimic Tear at no. 1. I played 40 hours without using summons, just wandering around and discovering things (just completing Godrick, Radahn, Rennala and Morgott in that order). I watched very few gameplay videos and tutorials to avoid spoilers and get the best experience of this game by myself. Since I found that summon, I haven't stopped using it against bosses (about Rennala's). The 2nd one I chose for while I wander and discover places is the Ancestral Follower. I loved your video!! Greetings from México!
I literally just thought to myself while playing "I dont know what Spirit summon to use, and i dont wanna use the Black Knife or Mimic for the 100th time, lets see if rusty has a video about it". And here it is. Get out of my head!
In the pvp arena spirit ashes that specialize in high pressure and disruption seem to take precedent over the likes of mimic-tear and Tiche, I can dodge destined death and get tickled by her slashes all day, but god help me when i've got the greatshield midgets or the Omenkiller barreling down upon me while my opponent is poking my flank with greatspears/rapiers.
Having farmed cleanrot knights for about 2 hours to get their weapons and armor in it's entirety, The main weakness of cleanrot knights is their lack of following up attacks and also being staggered way too easily. Ontop of that, they will only use their melee scythe swing at close range, but being close range will prompt them to retreat or use their backup thrusting sword. Very rarely will they hit you with the melee scythe without heavily telegraphing the attack to the enemy, giving them enough time to stance break them out of the move, or wiff entirely
See that’s my thing. I loved the challenge of 1v1ning the bosses, but when I was out exploring the world, it was nice to have something on your side as you ran through the lands between. Something that helped you cut through the fodder while you explored that castle, or fort. I got attached, to the point that for me using them during a boss fight felt… wrong. Not just because it removed the immersion I craved, but also because it felt like I was throwing my ride or die into certain death so I could get an incant or two off. But that’s just my take on it. Long live Oleg, baby. The GOAT
I had thought I missed the Greatshield soldier ashes somewhere earlier on the list but god am I happy to see them ranked so high. I was astonished how good they were and I relied on them for a while in my first playthrough.
The skeletal militia are amazing for casters, they're fast attack speed and relative survivability means they pull aggro pretty often giving you time for big damage spells
i think he drastically underestimate their usefulness as well. i've been doing a "skelly bois"-only run and these guys are insanely helpful due to their ability to revive. minor babysitting is all it takes for them to do their job. of course leaving them to their business will cause them to die off fast, because you're supposed to juggle the aggro. when they die the mob that killed them will usually look for another 'living' target due to the fact they get a second or two of invincibility frames, and as long as something else is nearby (and there is no bs effect on the ground) they will get back up.
Summon the mimic tear with the invincible perfume bottle, a healing spell and a healing stone(and whatever throwables you have in your inventory), and you've got everything you need.
Over my use of them, i really found Engvall to be the better of the two. While Oleg deals more damage, it was Engvalls jump attack would just stagger so many things, and seeing him coming from nowhere to just pancake malenia and then spin in a circle to stagger her immediately after really keeps him in the better position in my book. Oh, and the extra hp he has i found to really become a thing at the top end of levels, its something like an extra 2 or 3k hp.
My 3 go to spirits are: 1. MIMIC because i love have myself fight with myself and use heals and taking at the sane time 2x. 2. Tiche - She messes up er'body. 3. Beastmen summon - I know it isnt the best BUT the red lightning buff, berserk mode, braggarts roar, and quick attack makes them great for faster enemies and can keep pressure on bosses for me to land heavy blows with my weapons.
This has probably been said before but in case you have 0 care for flavor text, Ogha can use an arrow rain similarly to Radahn, except the damage, or the stun, or any of the strengths that Radahn has. He uses it in response to any war cry, and I just personally really like his vibe.
Lhutel the Headless carried my Astrologyist character through so many fights it was insane how good she is. Get her to max level and watch her destroy bosses.
In my first playthrough I went through the fog gate right at the start as soon as I could unlock it. I spent quite a while trying to beat that tree spirit because I was so low leveled it would kill me in one hit. Once I finally beat him I got Oleg and saw how much mo he needed. Spent all my levels from there until I could finally summon him. It was a pretty great feeling finally being avle to see the reward from all that effort. I used him quite a lot in the overworld whenever I could. It was nice to have someone with me, even if it was just a summon.
Kaiden sellsword enjoyer here, having an aggressive summon as a caster helped me a lot and with some luck he will keep knocking human sized bosses to the ground over and over
There should be a Way to Put them to rest in return for upgrade materials. Like, that way you have a use for the ones you will never use in battle, and can make the ones you do use stronger.
Even if people consider Oleg to be the better of the two, I’ve still found that Engvall can put in some serious work if you fight alongside him. Just fighting by his side he can help eat enemy poise.
glad you actually show them off in action without just attacking everything at the same time. the whole time i was wondering why you were using only one straight sword and not even two handing it but then it clicked. how else were you gonna show off your goofy idle pose/walk animation mod?
In my first playthrough, Mimic Tear wasn't good at first but that was purely due to me levelling all of my stats equally. Once I got all of my stats above 50 they started getting usable and after 70 they were pretty good. I still liked Rats, Raya Lucaria, Rollo, & Dung Eater though because they were the ones I had been using before Mimic Tear got usable.
I don’t think mimic tear is affected by your stats at all. It just uses your equipment, but has its own stats dictated entirely by how much you’ve upgraded it. Also holy crap you were leveling every stat equally? That sounds like it would make the game miserable to play.
On my first playthrough (as a spellcaster) I picked up the Greatshield Soldiers and never looked back. Playing the game on a 2nd playthrough felt like a brand new game, since there were bosses I had barely noticed while blasting them behind a wall of shields.
Some of the summons are severely underrated. If the only criteria is that of letting summons carry you through the game, then this list is fair enough. But there are a few things that are completely overlooked, especially the ability to help you unlock key areas. Stormveil for example is locked behind Margit, who can be an absolute nightmare with a low level character. The fanged imp ashes can be used from the very start of the game, and they can make quick work of Margit almost entirely by themselves. If you add Rogier into the mix and send a few throwing items in Margit's general direction, you'll be able to pass into Stormveil with relative ease even if you're not yet good at the game. Several of the other low/mid rated summons like Latenna have similar capabilities of "cheesing" certain bosses and thus unlocking key areas/items early. It requires a bit of strategy, but if you can figure it out you'll cruise through the game thanks in large part to the various lower tier summons.

I love the A-team

Also the Starscourge Greatswords skill which is fitting, unless I’m dumb and an enemy happened to do the same thing at the right time and missed me.
@@AMadPotato that’s most likely the case, too!

Spirit ashes in elden ring really make me realise the difference between how strong some enemies are and how weak their spirit ash counterparts are.
Mimic tear is the only exception iirc.

I mean it's a little RNG based...her damage isn't that high EXCEPT if she uses her black knife ability which just melts through the boss's hp like it's nothing (the hit does high damage, the drain even more and the maxhp reduction is substantial if it doesn't expire in a critical moment).
Some times she'll just be thrown around by the boss being utterly useless, other times she swings the black knife three times in a row and (this happened to me aswell) kills Mogh's 2nd phase all by herself before he's done with his 2nd combo and me not even realizing what happened (thank you Nvidia Experience for always recording the last 10min, otherwise I would've been clueless).

there is a little caveat to the mimic tear, and that's when using any great runes that increase stats (like godricks), the mimic tear can't copy that and instead will be running around with weapons it can't use.
You're the man, trying this out
So basically the Mimic Tears only weakness (that being the build it's copying potentially) is also a strength...I wonder why people love it so much lmao
I feel like the first one is a skill issue. Why would you center your build around stats you don't actually have lol
I use Godrick as an extra bonus, not to get to the basics, and like, unless I'm blanking on certain gear, pretty much everything with a min requirement would want you to drop a lot of levels in those anyway for scaling
the fact that mimic tear can use flame grant me strength golden vow and blasphemous blade while also healing itself with blasphemous blade seems like a war crime in itself ngl…that shit broken asf
the fact that he can also use buffs is crazy. I feel like other spirit summons got robbed, because mimic is just 100 times better than anyone else
Mad pumpkin head has one very good benefit that pushes him a little higher in my book.
His pumpkin head takes a severely reduced amount of damage compared to the rest of his body and if he faces most big bosses head on he tanks for ridiculously long amounts of time.

It'd be really op, ofc, but badass nonetheless

the wiki has a page for ranking spirits based on how they perform against the same opponent - and they used the Draconic Tree Sentinel in Leyndell for testing. Using the same enemy is good for consistency and impartiality, but it’s important to remember that certain spirits will naturally perform better against that type of hard hitting armored enemy. So that list on the wiki isn’t a fully objective ranking.
Is the wiki referencing that video Garden of Eyes made?
the way rusty can make a 46 minute video only feel like 15 minutes is something else
Congrats, you just made a mortar unit
Way too niche
@@PuddleWaterIsTheBestWater Situational yes but helpful in certain areas.

Thank you so much for doing what you do. My family has been going through a rough patch past few months (medical issues, unexplainable job problems) and I started Elden Ring around the same time.
Dung eater is a beast. Probably the best summon in my eyes.
Deenh feels like a let down to me. He has all the advantages of flying summons but that doesn't make him immune to being hit and his hp isn't fantastic. The buff he gives is great, but only lasts for like 20 seconds.
Greatshield soldiers , Latenna, Wolves, Mausoleoum soldiers are good too tbh
i love using finlay, she is good, kinda tanky and can scarlet rot ppl
Dung Eater's totally worth trying, if you don't mind potentially losing Boggart, can stand being around Seluvis for more than a few seconds and don't question the ethics of lobotomizing convicted killers. Dude can take some hits, he's got Bleed if you're into that, and his range and aggressive AI make him really good at keeping foes focused on him and not you. Really, aside from Mimic Tear's HP and versatility, there's not much more you could ask for in a summon.
Something else to know about Ogha, is that his arrows can do insane knock down. Making him a great summon against Malenia.
I did this exact thing. He's even great melee for lions claw
Yeah, his gravity arrows do great poise and stance damage
I summoned pumpkin head for one of my malenia fights and it took that personally, it just slapped her around and she could only fight back during her hyperarmor window
Something of note for the Ancestor summon, it actually heals on kill (your kills count too).
With Latenna, you can get her to ride a wolf in the mountains as she can call a wolf if one is nearby and let her ride it.
We can’t sleep on Engwall like this, he carried me through my first playtrough and he has a special place in my heart.
Yes I am playing the game with him now and am quite emotionally attached
I've used Engvall so much as a summon that my combat timing compliments his hits. I used this to my advantage when he and I sandwiched Malenia.

I can’t give up my overhauls, but if I could use it with The Convergence and its summoner builds, I would never let go
Edit: I’m actually not sure about better spells upon level up, but many ashes do get more and/or stronger units as they level up
I hope and swear they better add this idea in for more spirits when the dlc comes out.
It be so damn cool.
I remember switching from Mimic Tear to Kristoff on my main playthrough and while he's obviously worse, I kinda fell in love with him just not giving a shit about much of anything and he quickly became my preferred spirit summon.
You also made me nearly spit out my drink with how you introduced him, good job.
Tbh I think Mimic tear is overrated
I feel like maybe I'm using it wrong but my Mimic tear is so weak
Kristoff on the other hand is an absolute unit who just tanks shots

This was honestly one of the funniest videos ever and I have had quite a laugh in a very long while. Thank you.
I might need to try equiping the talisman that attracts more agro to make sure they don't get hit as much
The constant damage(even though not much) from their full auto arrow barrage is awesome, I just don't like how short their range is though
He definitely deserves top 10. Oleg carried me through some tough spots!
46:21 that pull from Mimic is like it saying "I'm not done with you!"
As a summon user i came to this video looking for a fun summon to use that wasn’t as busted as the mimic tear. Upon learning that the miranda sprouts existed i knew theyd be my new number 1. Thank you for bringing me to my new favorite and best summon i could ever ask for
the elden lord we deserve
The actual nomad using flame of frenzy hits so damn hard, so why does the summon do literally nothing
104 fp is only 17 mind, most builds should be hitting 20 even as non magic builds so he's still effective
@@nem6191Who needs fp when you got the flask? Infinite fp for 10 seconds is more than enough to summon any ash.
@tacticsogreman I'd much rather add a few points into mind and get maximum usage of my wondrous physick, especially now with the new dlc tears like the deflect one or the tear that actually buffs your ashes
@@nem6191 I'm running a melee build with 20 points in mind anyway😂
Haven't touched DLC yet. Quite excited tbh about new tears and talismans. But first, I must complete my training at Malenia dojo lol
Infinite fp comes in handy for that as my goal ain't necessarily to beat her just yet. Popping off a heavy fp summon for free is a good way to start.
Thank you for saying most of the spirits names.
I like to listen to your stuff when I work and laughing my ass off.

My favorite 5(Most of these are personal attachments than usefulness)
1. Luhtel
2. Nightmaiden & Swordstress Duo
3. Jellyfish
4. Fingermaiden
5. Latenna
Stormhawk Deenh and Sleep Puppet are fun to use too
Is the jellyfish actually good? I mean I’ve fully upgraded and only ever used it because it’s my inky +10. I’ve never considered anything else
@@yourweirdplant switched to Mimic +10, no longer friends with Jellyfish
I watched your entire video and don't you know how happy I was when I saw the Mimic Tear at no. 1. I played 40 hours without using summons, just wandering around and discovering things (just completing Godrick, Radahn, Rennala and Morgott in that order). I watched very few gameplay videos and tutorials to avoid spoilers and get the best experience of this game by myself. Since I found that summon, I haven't stopped using it against bosses (about Rennala's). The 2nd one I chose for while I wander and discover places is the Ancestral Follower. I loved your video!! Greetings from México!
When I start a fight and I see Lhutel teleporting past me straight toward my enemy it instills the most insane amount of confidence ever.
The rant fading out at the ending was a nice touch.
I literally just thought to myself while playing "I dont know what Spirit summon to use, and i dont wanna use the Black Knife or Mimic for the 100th time, lets see if rusty has a video about it". And here it is. Get out of my head!
Tiche seemed surprisingly well balanced in the arena pvp mode
In the pvp arena spirit ashes that specialize in high pressure and disruption seem to take precedent over the likes of mimic-tear and Tiche, I can dodge destined death and get tickled by her slashes all day, but god help me when i've got the greatshield midgets or the Omenkiller barreling down upon me while my opponent is poking my flank with greatspears/rapiers.
@@bubbajoe117they aren’t that good in pvp but gank squads are the best, especially mausoleum soldiers.
Only a matter of time before he ranks all remembrance bosses as romance options in a dating sim.
Cant wait to see what he thinks about regal ancestor as a romance option 😭
My 3 go to spirits are:
New subscriber. I like the blend of jokes with actual analysis on give on each ash. Has me cracking up at every turn.
We're getting ever closer to the NPC foot tier list.....
*I can almost taste it*
Tharalina acts as a great heal tank. That is her best use. You get to chip away at bosses because they just kant kill her
Oleg was my go-to-summon throughout the whole game. He was the best ally I could ask for
Kaiden sellsword enjoyer here, having an aggressive summon as a caster helped me a lot and with some luck he will keep knocking human sized bosses to the ground over and over
There should be a Way to Put them to rest in return for upgrade materials.
Like, that way you have a use for the ones you will never use in battle, and can make the ones you do use stronger.
Even if people consider Oleg to be the better of the two, I’ve still found that Engvall can put in some serious work if you fight alongside him. Just fighting by his side he can help eat enemy poise.
I find Oleg is the better damage-dealer, but Engvall is the better tank. YMMV.
glad you actually show them off in action without just attacking everything at the same time. the whole time i was wondering why you were using only one straight sword and not even two handing it but then it clicked. how else were you gonna show off your goofy idle pose/walk animation mod?
17:48 rusty never stops being the worlds best commentator
The ending of the video was hilarious hahaha> thanks for the video btw, keep it up :D
Thank you for making a hilarious and yet interesting video. I love your commentary especially at the end. This was great!
