I like how the panel was well-represented by different enneagram types! Something I've been thinking about is a panel of the same enneagram type but different MBTI personalities. I think it would help untangle the expression of cognition from the person's cognitive process.
What helped me think of this is watching Shan deliver capsules of concentrated knowledge during this discussion. As a 5/4 INFJ I've done the same exact thing in similar discussion groups. But till now I had always considered that knowledge drop an Ni thing even though any type could have the same characteristics. Now I know to look much deeper towards their cognitive process. Thought maybe this would help other people also.
P.S. Joyce, you are quite brave for putting 9 ENFP's on the panel :) It was awesome!

I LOVE what Mandy said near 1:12. I have discerned this in people as well that some are either always nice to the point of having weak boundaries or backbone or the opposite extreme of being too harsh and tough. For example, people say they are "brutally honest" as if it's something to be proud of. But you don't have to be brutal to be honest. The way I see it, true honesty is never brutal. The reason is that true honesty sees all sides of a person, not just the bad so if you are being brutal you are being very narrowly-focused and only seeing the negative qualities but if you are going to be truly honest, then you have to see the positives as well. People are incredibly complex and there is always a positive aspect to a person. If you choose to ignore that part of them then you can't call yourself honest in my opinion. I am very discerning about this with people I allow into my life. If I detect that they are not able to have the fair heart and mind and good faith with true honesty, then I don't have time for them in my life.

  • @hfortenberry

I love this panel. My best friend since junior high (for 38 years) is an ENFP and she is sooooo much like these ladies. She too has a disparate group of friends that are all separate. And she has had issues with her boundaries and had a couple of toxic relationships although I think she's overcome that pretty well. She also thinks she's an introvert sometimes because she enjoys spending time alone. I always tell her, "You can still be an extrovert even if you like alone time. In fact, ENFPs are the most introverted of all the extroverts."
She and I have a perfect friendship for me where we get together once every few months and it's like we just saw each other so we pick up where we left off. We don't have to keep up with each other constantly but when we do get together it's awesome. She would actually want to get together more because she often says she misses me and I had to explain that as an INTJ I am more of the limiting factor because I am always starving for more alone time and never have a chance to miss people. But we do always make a point to get together several times a year and it's always so much fun. We just talk NON-STOP and I am the one who just wants to keep talking all day (we usually spend an afternoon together). After about 6-8 hours she starts to get sleepy (she's more in touch with her Si and goes to bed much earlier than I; so, while she's the one who usually initiates our visits, I'm the one who keeps them going longer. It works so well and we just love each other. We have the BEST conversations.

ENFP too here and love hearing this! Relate to so much! From the seeing potential in others, putting others before self, focus level fluctuations.
Here is my contribution on the childhood question topic:
When I was in 1st grade I cornered my mom in the kitchen and asked,
Me: mom you would never lie to me about something that was really, really important to me, would you?
Mom: no of course not. Not if it was really important to you.
Me: Ok it’s really important to me. Is Santa real?
Mom: (jaw drops, and the truth comes out)
Aaaaand I cry and proceed to tell all the neighborhood kids the TRUTH and that the parents have been lying to us this whole time! We deserve the truth! Lifting the veil of the adults LIES!
I still can vividly remember this pain of my own intelligent strategy showing me a hurtful truth. 😤

That is SO FUNNY about the pants. I'm going to have to ask my bff about that. Come to think of it, in 38 years I don't think I've ever seen her in a pair of jeans! And she does wear dresses or skirts often. Oh wow! Regarding the arguing/devil's advocate behavior from ENFPs, I have not noticed that. But then again maybe it's because I am INTJ and seeing all sides is pretty natural for me and doesn't feel like an argument? Idk. I was shocked to hear Mandy say that she gets more arguments back from ENFPs that all thinkers combined. I haven't noticed arguing so much as exploring ideas. To me that is really different than arguing or playing devil's advocate (which can feel adversarial); whereas exploring ideas can be a shared activity.

That’s not an fe thing. That’s an NF or even an Sf thing. Aka what feelers do. Talk to most enfp’s in life and you’ll see them doing this as you talk to them because even though they have Fi, fi is able to understand others emotions and stories and sentiments well and shows validation to the talker in the moment.

@@grumpyschnauzer I know nf and sf includes Fe- that’s not my point. I’m saying that the nodding of the head is primarily and NF thing (and sometimes sf too - not so much infp but definitely Enfp, enfj, and infj. NF’s are going to nod their head more because their intuition allows them to understand the feelings of others in real time. Enfps actually have a high level of fe despite it not being in their function stack.
And this video is not a good example of nodding because the enfps are not the main speaker here who is facilitating this video. They’re here to share - not run the scene and ensure things go smoothly like Joyce’s job is to.
If you talk to enfps in real life, trust me, you’ll get the nods.

@Joyce, 1:26:00 Explaining Ne is is like a Prosecutor bringing evidence to a Jury. We have collected various facts, over various times and various locations, and various refined situations, but line up in the same category. Trying to explain those thoughts would be the equivalent of winning a court case. No one has time for all of that, and without that explanation, no one understands the logic. For example, I have understood for a long time that many psycopaths and sociopath types are CEO's of corporations and companies, but until an actual study came out making that same point, it would have been pointless to have that conversation with someone who was not Ne.

43:33 - 47:40 The vulnerable giggly and crazy (in a good way) feminine side is what I love about ENFPs (and INFPs) the most. I don't know if I as an ISTP can make you feel like it's safe and appreciated to be that way around me, but it is.
And yeah, it's great when you are also strong and independent and such but if that's all I wanted then I'd probably go looking for a TJ or so.
[I'm thinking primarily about females in a potentially romantic sense here, but I guess it would apply in a platonic setting and with other genders as well.]
Regarding the pants situation. As a male P-type the only way I can relate is like this: I basically only wear Jeans outside the house, because it's the most practical thing a man can wear while still looking adequate and it's resilient enough so that I can move and sit however I want without having to worry about tearing any seams or fabric (it has happened to me with other kinds of pants before). But as soon as I come home I'll immediately switch to sweat pants. There's nothing more comfortable and liberating than this.

If ENFPs aren't particularly attached to their ideas in the way us Ni users are, why would they be so grumpy about someone shooting an idea down? Is it less to do with the idea, and more to do with stifling them as a person, or perhaps even life in general?

    • @danielleheyns7033
      @danielleheyns7033 2 роки тому +1

They're not attached to the idea in the sense that they don't necessarily wantvto makr it happen. But Ne likes when people play with ideas. The ideation phase is not the time to shoot down ideas. There is a time and place for that, later down the line. Ideas beget more ideas - if you shoot down an idea in the ideation phase (I.e. top soon) instead of riffing off it or playing with the idea, the *NFP is unlikely to bring you any more ideas. It's like killing a seed. You can get an entire field of wildflowers from one seed (lots of other ideas), but if you kill the seed, you won't get anything from it. Have you heard of Walt Disney's structure for creating stories? There are different rooms from different parts of the creative process. The first room is the ideation one. In there, you're allowed to come up with the wildest ideas and no one is allowed to shoot down your idea. *NFP types thrive in this room. When they're giving you an idea, theyre not saying they want to make it happen. They don't even want to make it happen (probably). They're asking you to play with the idea with them - speculate, have fun together :)

As an INTJ you can tell me if you don’t like me, I won’t take offense. I usually prefer being left alone and on my own anyway. Not really much of a people person I guess. Only born to work.
I get the idea that most people don’t like INTJ’s…but that’s ok for me. We INTJ’s don’t really care for popularity.
