    I bought an emaculate 2010 M6 with 45,000 miles, space grey 3 yrs ago. The best thing about the 2010 is several vehicle engine/transmission upgrades/fixes from manufacturer. I currently have 60,000 miles, zero issues! I change the oil every 5,000 miles. In all my research I have never heard of the rod bearing issue being related to a cold engine as much as it is about the really tight tolerance between the bearing and the rod which slows fresh oil exchange across the bearing surfaces. I use a product call Turbo Maxx in the oil to help with the rod bearing issue, super slick stuff!!! This car definitely has received a bad rap. From my three years of researching online, mechanic shops and working on my own M6 I feel most of this is due to neglect and very hard use. If your going to drive it like a race car your going to have to maintain it like one. Dealer says 20,000 mile oil change!!! Hell no! If you really want one of these cars just inspect it really well before buying, people abuse these cars. You can't drive this car and expect the cheap maintenance of a honda or toyota.

      the only engine changes were new cylinder wall sprayers (very easy to change (when the oil pan is off (which u have to do for rod bearings and vanos line anyway)))
      and different rod bearings but
      1 who cares what bearings came w it bc ur gonna change them as a preventative maintenance item anyway and 2 they were only changed to comply w new lead laws lmao not for engineering reasons
      they fkn nailed the s85
      but irresponsible drivers cold revving them will def chew the bearings (and possibly crank journals) tf up

    Great review. I have an 09' E63 with 54k on it. Troy jeup as you mentioned is the guru and I completed all his recommendations as well from ACL bearings and ARP rod bolts, thermostat, 5w50 redline oil, vanos lines, 4 solenoids, SMG pump & Trans relay replacement, new plugs, all ignition coils, rotors, pads and tires all around. And finally test pipes with ceramic coated headers and tune. It's a dream to own and drive... don't sleep to these vehicles. Get one while you can. Much love

      All in~$12K only remaining fluids to change are the SMG Gear oil, trans flush, and differential fluid which be roughly another ~$500.00. Always buy great parts for these vehicles and take to trust speciality shop. Sounds like a lot but your M will love you for it thus you'll love it more.

    I’m on my 3rd black/black 2010 M6 coupe since I bought my first one in 2016. I picked up my current last year as a one-owner elderly driven car with less than 12k miles (today it still has under 13k). Your review was spot on, you know your shit and kept it real. I’m glad you got all the pm stuff out of the way so you can enjoy your beast for years to come.

    • @Raven_M6
      @Raven_M6 8 місяців тому

      @@andrewpatterson9833 I guess you can call it a deal considering it was like buying a brand new final year E63 M6 for less than half of MSRP😄! The BMW dealership I bought it from sold the original owner my car new, he had 4 other M6's so he barely put any miles on this one. They also had one of his 2007 blk/blk E63 M6's with 19k miles for sale along with mine, for only $7k less so it was a no brainer which one to buy. I ended up selling my existing 2010 E63 blk/blk M6 w/50k miles to a local enthusiast right after I picked up this one. Current mileage is approx 13.7k. The only reason I've managed to keep the mileage so low is because it's a weekend car which splits time with my '23 AMG C63s. I've posted pics of it on the M5board if you want to check them out.

    I have had few problems with mine. I am the original owner of a 2007 M6 e64. It is in my garage now with 67k miles. The only person that has driven it IS ME, except for a few miles where I have let a family member drive it with me in the passenger seat.
    I ran an inflation calculator today, and the original purchase price yields a $170k car in today's dollars. The problem is that these cars have depreciated where any dumbass can buy one. Then, because it is an exotic, they run the hell out of them and are shocked when they break, and the parts cost an arm and leg to fix. Then they complain because it isn't a Camry.
    Well, with my dealer installed Dinan mod, it will run about 216MPH, pull over a G on a skid pad, and is increasingly stable the faster it goes. I should add that the sound is amazing.
    Rod bearings costs less than a new set of Pilot Sports (the only tires that should be installed - tuned for them, trust me!) if you do them yourself. In 100k miles, you will go through $7500 in tires and $1000 in preventative maintenance rod bearings, including vanos line and miscellaneous parts).
    The only real issue is that the wiring insulation specification was bad and becomes brittle where exposed to heat and environmental factors. This is particularly true of the SMG wires to the transmission. Let it come to normal operating temp before letting it 'walk the talk', and budget about $1.5/mile (wet).
    I get 19.2 mpg interstate at 75-80 mph. City is about like my first car if in M mode (1st car was a 1966 GTO with 389 bored 60, 3/4 race cam, 3 deuces, 4 speed, 4:11 rear) lol! Different era, exact opposite car. SAME SMILE!

    Had a 2010 m6 back in early 2017 and sold it at the end of 2019. I miss it! I had that same seal issue you had with the differential. It was about 500 bucks to fix. Then i had to replace the battery. I got it for $150 from some guy I knew that worked at bmw. Then i had to do the throttle actuators $1,100. My mechanic gave me a good labor rate and i bought some remanufactured actuators. I also had to replace the 2 front tires since they wore out before the rears haha weird! Then just before i sold it i believe the thermostat was on its way out. You do have to pay to play. All this within 7k to 8k miles.

    These cars are for rich people and mechanics only who can and willing to rebuild the engine every 100,000kms. This is not in anyway a daily driver. This is not a cheep car to maintain, This is not a fast car. The more people buy these on a budget (and let me honest its the only reason why this car is appealing) the less we are going to see them around because douchebags buy these with their pocket money, thrash the shit out of them and chuck em in the bin ones they realized these engines are junk and then realized that their cheep V10 monster they bought for 10K is now needing 20K in repairs. This is happening more and more now.

    • @AnwarAndCars
      @AnwarAndCars  2 роки тому +2

      You are right these are expensive to maintain. the only good thing is that this will make the running examples more valuable in the long run. Idk what you mean by this isn’t a fast car though it’s plenty fast?

    • @muckman5509
      @muckman5509 2 роки тому +1

      @@AnwarAndCars it’s ok but it ain’t getting under the 4 second mark. It’s fat and heavy and handles like a tank. Best thing you can do is gut the crap out of it and bring ya power to weight up so that engine can show its true potential. But again I wouldn’t own one of these unless ya got the time and money to strip the whole block down and rebuild it. These engines have a habit of showing the damage of the previous owners. Unless you know the true history of the owner and that he was never using this as a thrasher doing burnouts (which most owners do) then I’d be rebuilding it. Every video you see on here shows an owner just treating it like a dog. I seen one video where a guy just keeps reviing the crap out of it just for attention and ya know that engine is just taking a punishment. Again unless you know it’s full history, I’d definitely me doing a rebuild. Last thing you want is a spun bearing or a clocked injector which they all do. Doing the rod bearings is pissing in the wind when it comes to this engine. You definitely need to check your VANOS pump compression ring for sureZ I wouldn’t be driving anywhere without knowing the state of that vanos pump. Pull it out and check the inner race ring

    • @mikesw87
      @mikesw87 2 роки тому +3

      You are very much mistaken, mine is a daily and is fast. If you think 500hp isn't fast then you need to recalibrate what you define as fast. The engine is clearly not junk, it is a masterpiece. Fragile if abused.
      Not all of these are thrashed and not all blow up, mine is on 60k miles and is under BMW warranty still.

    • @Raven_M6
      @Raven_M6 Рік тому +1

      @muckman5509, so much clueless disinformation in your post I don’t even know where to begin. This is essentially an F1 race car engine detuned to 500hp and you’re calling it slow. After 10k miles, have you seen what happens to a Lambo or Ferrari engine? Many of them are trashed. I’ve owned 3 of these beasts now, and none of them were abused. The rod bearings failures happened mostly on pre-LCI models, by the end of the facelift run, 2010’s were proven to be the most reliable year to own. They seldom have any major issue other than routine maintenance. For a car that weighs 4k lbs, they are actually rather nimble and handle extremely well if you know how to drive it. I challenge you to find another car for under $15k that makes 500hp and does 0-60 in mid 4’s stock. You won’t find one. And it’s cheap mostly for the reasons Anwar outlined in his video. People are scared off by the rod bearings thinking they can get a 500hp beast for cheap without having to put in a few grand of PM to make them trouble free. And also because by now, this car is getting rarer and rarer in the wild as well as on the used car market, so many folks simply don’t know they exist.
