Duncan takes out his BMW E63 M6 for an in-depth review, including why he bought one and the maintenance costs of running a £90,000 car, 15 years later in 2020
Mines been great mate! Had it since Julyish now- since the video I've got an evolve stage 2 map on it which has improved economy, power and the red line which is nice. Nice to see you've seen some stuff on our channel! Followed your Z4 closely on yours and watched your M6 review too!!
Duncan Antony yeah I’ve just subscribed. Did a review with one of these last year and that definitely re-Inforced the fact I want one. Will be straight piping it when I do 😂.
@@itsjoel yes exhaust needs doing as a first port of call!!!! Mine sounds absolutely insane, prefer it to an F12 M6 by far noise wise. Also try and sort out the iDrive too - unless you're fortunate to step into a 2010 car! Then the whole thing feels as good as new
Duncan Antony you really can’t beat the V10. Anyway, thanks for the vid. The maintenance issues part was super helpful. My idea is not to get something low mileage necessarily, but to get something that’s had all of those bits done, or at least some of them like yours.
Nice videos on the M6, I've had to restrain myself from buying one and went with a late '09 635d convertible for the commuting mpg mainly. It has a bluefin map which really makes a difference.... Power up to around 330 bhp and torque is immense. For a D it sounds okay when on it.... But it's no M6. Your car is the spec I would go for too Silverstone with ivory interior. The fit and finish with the e63 is fantastic and they wear their age well. Interesting that you have changed the idrive, did you need a full centre console replacement? We're there any difficulties upgrading the lci bits too? With the lockdown my commute has changed so I'm thinking an M6 would be more liveable day to day now so I'm on the hunt... But my car is an lci so I would miss the idrive etc and would need to retrofit. Did you know that you can get android based touch screen units to replace these too for apple car play / android auto, not too expensive either! Anyways looking forward to more videos!
Thanks mate! My friend has a stage 3 635d and the torque is absolutely ridiculous. Spins in the first 3 gears - its ridiculous. The LCI bits were mainly a doddle, few wiring changes for the front LED indicators and CIC iDrive but definitely worth the agg! You can get android, however I've seen these in a few cars and the quality of the screen isnt up to the OEM standard, if the sun shines on the screen you then can't see anything on the display as it's a normal LCD panel - I don't know what witchcraft the OEM screens have, but when the sun shines on them - they reflect the light and become clearer than anything to see
Duncan Antony question. How did you do the LCI upgrade and idrive update? I have a 06 m6 5.5 stroker v10 with a few mods in the US but still have the 1st gen idrive with no Bluetooth streaming or video. Pls help thanks
@@jb10flight Hey! Sorry I missed this. The iDrive wasn't too hard, few wiring mods to get the screen working. The headunit is plug and play. The hard bit is finding the LCI trim to fit the CIC! The rear lights are plug and play, the front there is a wiring diagram on a forum if you search for it. If you go onto the FB group BMW M6 Owners Group they should be able to help you, plus I'm on there so can send links! Then coding to code out all the checks for the front indicators and rears because they're LED's or they'll flicker as you drive when the car does bulb checks.
@@dkkatwa Totally depends on the mileage of the car! I know mine has never had the vanos pipe done, at 90k now and still running perfectly fine! Coil packs only really need to be done if the spark plugs arent changed frequently. SMG pump motor should be changed with the clutch around 50,000 miles, if it hasn't, you may experience issues. Mine had a full gearbox rebuild from BMW in 2012 including a new pump so is running fine. Rest is all reliable! Of course throttle/idle actuators are a must to get done too :)
great review, I'm trying to choose between an M2 and M6 for my next car in the 3-4yrs, I know they're very diff cars but I'm leaning towards the M6 as its just a beast, But I do think you can't really use the cars full potential legally lol?
Absolutely not! You're at 5000rpm and already up the cars arse in front! An M2 would be a better daily with the low down torque, the V10 constantly pushes you to rev right out to the red line, which also isn't healthy for the fuel bill!
Unreliability is a myth of people who can't look after their cars to be honest mate. I did my rod bearings immediately, serviced it on time getting all fluids changed and never had a single issue with it. More reliable than my old V8 645 by far.
@@Duncan1098UKGreat review! You are talkiing facts mate. My mechanic says that if you warm the car 2 to 3 min b4 driving it, rod bearings willl never become an issue. I have 126k on my '07 and I service it meticuliousy. Oil every year or 6k miles. Rear diff(@100k), brake and coolent flush(@2yrs) on time and mabe power steering flush wich bmw says is a lifetime fluid will keep these cars in prime shape. Be prepared for oil leaks, oil cooler and alternater replacement @ over 100k. Full tune up inclding coils, every 75k. A few sensors here and there is about it. All of this is general maintenance for a beast @100k new. Trust me, its worth it! This car has been the joy of my life and I will never sell. 1st and second gen m6 is king. especially the s85.
I used the newer CIC iDrive system. Factory unless its a 09+ plate, they have the older CCC system. I got the new iDrive from a car being broken apart on ebay :)
can't wait to get one of these.. Looking forward to seeing how you get on with yours

Well Done Duncan... Great Video! Keep it up!
Can you talk about the I drive upgrade. What parts needed and where you got them
While not quite a Renault Clio, it's a great looking car.
I love this car and the video, but I think the music is too loud, and I can't hear you. Your model looks soooooo clean
Informative video with good subtle humour. C&T

i agree ! my 2010 indi red m6 gets sooo much attention

Hahaha so no giraffes 🦒 in the back seat lol
Nice review...thanks...who did the work on the rod bearings etc..
Thank you! Deutschtech in Milton Keynes did the rod bearings, all other work was done by Munich power in redhill :)
