    Have the manual version E63 2008. Troy did a great job replacing the motor years ago (maybe 7-8 years ago) Didn't know about the bearings back then,so I was one of the first to have issues. Since then I've put 100K more miles on the car. Add bearings as part of the maintenance and this is a great car. BTW - My bolsters on the seat are adjustable. Say hi to Troy for me. I miss my 2010 bmw m6 coupe! I had a loud exhaust so what I did I switched back to the stock exhaust with cut outs I removed the secondary cats and resonator. Still quiet almost like stock but with the cutouts opened it was Damm loud in a good way! I raced a buddy of mine who had the convertible like yours and it was a pretty big difference! I pulled him by a few cars. No mods on either of them so that comes to show weight makes a BIG difference in acceleration.

    had one some years ago, only issue was that the all the mini computers inside the car used fiber optic cables, this transated that just due to the road bumps, every 2-3 months i eneded to take the car to the mechanic to re aligne the cables cause my car maybe decides to turn off 2 cylinders, or to go into safety engine mode and not rev higer than 4krpms, so i sold it, cause it was a pain that was in the mechanic more than in the road, i had it for 4-5 years

  • @rotorblade9508

    the name of the transmission is misleading. a normal sequential transmission is dog engagement with a groove cut selector shaft. It is cross gate (every change goes through neutral) operation just like a manual transmission. The SMG has hydraulic actuators for direct shift without going to neutral like Ferrari’s and is synchromesh. The operation is sequential but that is true for normal automatics and double clutch as well. A better name, idk, single clutch robotized direct shift SRD :)
    the most amazing thing is the SMG system does its own double-clutching - that is, blipping the throttle to match engine speed to the transmission speed to make shifts smoother - when downshifting. And it does it much faster than any driver could do manually with a standard manual transmission. That means when downshifting it crosses through neutral but it doesn’t matter, the upshifts need to be quick. Double clutching preserves the synchronizers and having a computer doing this virtually means the least amount of wear possible.
    Bottom line, it would be very difficult to choose between this and a manual.

    5W-50 over the 10W-60? You're brave. Changing the viscosity of both hot and cold temp of the oil when you only identified a cold viscosity problem is rather risky. maybe try a 5W-60 or a 0W-60?

    No way that changing the oil stops the rod bearings from wearing “at all”. Car sounds great though. Swap out those bearings though!

    • @jacktheeurocarguy
      @jacktheeurocarguy  4 роки тому

      Do some research. The whole rod bearing wear issue has to do 100% with oil, so it makes complete sense why different oil would solve the issue.

    • @m3blackshadow
      @m3blackshadow 4 роки тому

      @@jacktheeurocarguy it might help but it won’t make the problem go away. Your best bet is to send your oil out to Blackstone for analysis every (or every other) oil change. They can pick up traces of metal in the oil and track wear levels over time to determine when it might be time to replace the bearings. Trust me though, don’t think that the problem will just go away with thinner oil.

    Everyone that I know that has owned one has had major engine problems. Great driving cars but pretty garbage mechanically. I wouldn't recommend one of these to anyone who isnt willing to replace the motor as soon as they buy it.

    • @gulgul2006
      @gulgul2006 5 років тому +2

      Replace? Maintain more like it. If you know cars and can do a majority of the work I'd have to disagree with your statement. Even if you have to have someone else do the work, for $5K on top of your purchase price (which is way less than the $30k for a new motor) you can prevent catastrophic failure.Also being a horrible owner is a good way to shorten the life of any car.

    • @goonytunes4119
      @goonytunes4119 5 років тому +2

      @@gulgul2006 I'm not saying they aren't amazingly high performing motors, the rod bearings tend to fail though. It's an inherent issue along with vanos failure. I know about these cars pretty well, major failure of either can decimate components which could require a replacement. I'm not saying it will, I'm saying it could, and when you're buying it second hand, which we all are, you have to be ready to drop 10 grand. And if you want to prevent that, tear down the bottom end and address the problem, and rebuild your entire motor. Either way, these are ticking time bombs. Spectacular fun though until they do blow up.
