    Chester cried when he recorded this song. Because the lyrics related too much to his own addiction at that time. Mike (the rapper, writer, producer, keyboard piano, wrote the song. Brad (guitar) phoenix (bass) Rob (drums) and Mr Hann (DJ, sound effects, music video director) and with Chester (vocals) ofcourse they were the best band the world has ever known imo. I’ve been to their concerts 3 times and they were lit af.

      Not many people know how much Mr Hann actually put into the videos, he was a major part, if I remember right, it's been a while, bit didn't he do the whole of the video for this song, like all the animation for the official video. The guys a genius in his own right, a group of very talented blokes. Chester is missed a lot, would have loved to see what they'd be putting out now.

      One of my biggest regrets in life will always be that I never saw them live. I thought I had time. This performance makes me cry every time, not only because I know what he feels, but because I can also feel it, relate to how I feel when depression really knocks me down hard, and I snap at people and "I don't know why I instigate and say what I don't mean". Of course, it's nothing compared to what he went through, but it still hits me anyway, and I think a lot of people can apply it to their own struggles. Hits like a punch to the chest, right in the heart.

  • @BeachDreamere
    @BeachDreamere Рік тому +20

    Chester Bennington had one of the best voices live, which as you know is difficult. You watched a live video a few days ago and you kept asking about the sound he was making, most refer to it as a growl and he screams too. One of the absolutely most amazing thing Chester could do was go from that sweet singing voice to a growl or scream without taking a breath or hardly taking a breath, not to mention the amount of emotion he could convey with his voice. In most vocalist, this would absolutely shred their vocal ability and it would show especially live. Chester never lost that amazing ability. Occasionally, on certain songs, you will hear a backing vocal track but I've heard stripped down versions of just Chester without the backing vocals, it gives me goosebumps just like "The Sound of Silence" by Disturbed. The backing vocals make the song fuller and if you listen to the album version, it's pretty easy to spot live when it happens.
    Chris Cornell was another, absolutely phenomenal live and you can find many stripped down versions, or unplugged, of him. They were both amazing.
    I mentioned Disturbed earlier, David Draiman the lead singer is badass live too. I've also seen Twenty One Pilots in concert, Tyler Joseph, lead singer, sounds the same live. He uses backing vocal tracks in most songs, it's easy to spot because Tyler likes to layer vocals and sometimes sing 2 things at once, which isn't possible without backing vocals lol. Their live show is amazing.
    Bringing it back to Linkin Park, you mentioned the rapper and how well he raps, his name is Mike Shinoda. He has an album out, I like the song "Running From My Shadow" but the album is good overall. You should listen to it sometime even if you don't react to it here.

      @BeachDreamere Рік тому +2

      @@maf607 no problem at all. I miss him too, all his fans do. Mike came out and announced Linkin Park has no plans for a new album. Honestly, I don't think they can get a lead singer to replace Chester. He was so damn vocally talented. I know Queen continues to perform with Adam Lambert but Adam Lambert is a performer on stage like Freddie Mercury he may not fill his shoes completely but he does a good enough job to get it done. Also with Queen, they just want the music to keep going in Freddy's memory kind of they are not making any new music. Kind of like when Chester stepped into STP to be there singer Scott Weiland was working shit out. Everyone knew Chester would go back to Linkin Park and he did make an album with them and he went on tour with them and he did a good job but his voice is not as deep on some of the songs as Scott Weiland but he had his own style so everyone accepted him well most people did at least. For Chester it was a huge honor he grew up listening to STP and absolutely loved them.
      I don't know if fans of Linkin Park would accept a replacement for Chester. Depending on if the guy was good and could hold his notes and perform like Chester I might be willing to accept. But I'm guessing there's a lot of people out there who would not.

They came out and were singing one of the songs that they switch back and forth the vocals... however Chester couldnt hear his monitors... so a stage hand runs out to switch out his batteries and while thats happening Mike starts singing Chesters part.. by the time the batteries were switched it was time for mike to do his next line... Chester jumps in and they flipped THE REST OF THE FUCKING SONG!!!!!! It was so awesome.. thats how well they gelled together as a duo.. they could litterally on the fly switch each others vocals.. it was one of the best versions of the song i had ever heard... i wish it was nowadays when i would have had my phone out to record it (this was like 20 years ago) so i would forever have that version of the song... for those of you wondering... it was Crawling... now imagine that with flipped vocals... BEST live shows ever!!

    Maybe a hot take, but my own feelings of this song have always been that "The Habit" was life. I know it sounds retrospective, but the line, "I heard much more than anytime before, I have no options left again," always spoke to me about parents fighting about the failures of the child, and how they could blame the other one for those. The child overhears the argument, and feels worthless, so they decide to "break the habit" of being a disappointment by ceasing to exist.

      Also, "I'll paint it on the walls, 'cause I'm the one at fault," in that context does take a darker meaning, but also seems to make more sense to me.

    I get sooooo mad at myself because I saw Linkin Park twice. Both times I was drinking/ 💨💨💨 etc..😳lol so I wasn’t totally taking it all in since I wasn’t as coherent as I would’ve been if not partying every weekend. But since those days many yrs bk, in the early 2000’s.. I quit my partying. 💙Rip Chester..💙

    Every generation has it's geniuses when it comes to music. The issue has always been the mainstream pop charts that kill the industry. As soon as you step outside of the charts you'll start to find amazing artists all over the place. Not to say that there aren't incredibly talents people in the charts, but they're all moulded to fit a sales pitch that sells their albums. It kills their souls.

      Summer Sanitarium Tour? That's where I saw LP. I didn't know everyone who was playing. I didn't have a computer yet, and the internet wasn't like it is now on phones back then, so I didn't know who else was on the tour. When I found out I freaked. So amazing.

    Its really fun to see you grow as your knowledge of this band gets larger. Chester's parents got divorced at 11 causing him to spiral downwards into a drug and alcohol addition. To make things worse he was unfornately sexually abused by one of his family members. So if you take that trauma and look at it from his lyrics.. He went through all those challenges and still put on a straight face to sing like he did. He was a legend, and always will be. #Makechesterproud

    Lying from You is another great live track. On the same album as Breaking the Habit.
    If you want to see bands that sound almost the same live as in studio, 1994-96 Oasis, and early Beatles are good examples.

    Linkin Park saved my life. Imagine bouncing foster home to foster being used a beating post & as a human astray. Pain and confusion knowing what’s happening isn’t right & if you talk back you’re gonna unleash someone’s anger that could kill u as a kid but holding it makes u feel like you’re gonna die anyway. Then you throw Linkin park cassette into your busted Walkman with tape holding the door closed & over the battery compartment & feeling not alone bc Chester is crying with u, screaming with you. That’s the power of music with substance.
