    Chester Bennington - The lead singer of the band, he commited suicide few years back.
    He dealt with depression sadly.
    So yes you are right that maybe one of the members of this band dealt with what they are singing in the song. I've never felt more sad of any singers death than Chester.
    Been listening to them since childhood.

      Yeah he dealt with substance abuse and depression and in 2017 he was found dead in his house he supposedly died by suicide by hanging himself

      @@leontj2861 Yeah, pretty sure Chester's decision was impacted by Chris. But it was sadly inevitable. Chester and Anthony Bourdain were the only "celebrities" that actually made me cry when they died because they were such good people. I was lucky enough to meet Bourdain once, and there wasn't a bad bone in his body. He cared more about others and society than his own mental health. Sadly, I can relate to that and I hope my life never comes to the same end.

    Mike Shinoda (Keyboard, rapper, 2nd vocalist, 2nd guitarist, songwriter and produced Link Park songs/albums) was one of the main ones who got through to Chester to get help with his sobriety. It was "Breaking the Habit," from their 2nd album "Meteora" Mike wrote the lyrics and showed it to Chester Bennington (lead vocalist and songwriter) to give him that final nudge into wanting to get help, and when Chester read the lyrics, he just broke down and cried and it finally gave him that final courage to go into rehab and started going to therepy. Then that song became his #2 favorite of theirs to perform. Then at anytime if Mike seen that Chester was really struggling with depression and sobriety he was one of the ones that would pull Chester back from that ledge.
    Chester had a rough childhood. He was S*xual abused from the ages of 7-13 by an older male friend. His dad was a police Detective who investigated child SA cases. So Chester was afraid to tell anyone on what was happening because he thought people would think he was lying or think he was gay. He finally told his dad at 13 but Chester didn't want to press charges on the older kid because he had learned that kid was also a victum of SA. Chesters parents got divorced when he was a 11. So to escape from everything he was going through in his life he ended up getting into drugs/drinking when he was a teenager as a way to cope. So throughout the years Chester really struggled with his demons. After he got sober in 05/06 and was seeing helps he was mostly alright when he was with his LP band family, his wife and 6 kids, going to the gym everyday, being with fans, on stage, doing philanthropy/humanitarian work. But when hes alone for a long period of time thats when he really struggled with his depression the most. Thats when hes left alone with his thoughts he called it "the evil Chester" who would say mean things to him.

    This song was basically entirely written by Mike Shinoda, who is their emcee (+keyboards, rhythm guitar, sampling, production, etc). It initially started as an instrumental interlude, but was encouraged by the band to turn it into a full song. The lyrics was something he had been trying to write for years, long before their singer, Chester, came into the picture. At the same time this song was taking shape, Chester was fighting his own battle with addiction and depression, and the song resonated with what he was dealing with.
    It would be a few years after this song that the band staged an intervention, leading Chester into a road of rehab, and the help he needed, but he ultimately lost his battle in July 2017.
    In regards to the literal meaning behind the lyrics, Linkin Park have always kept their songwriting as relatable and universal as possible.

    • @1polyron1
      @1polyron1 Рік тому +1

      Is it really intentionally universal or ambiguous in meaning? Because that would be insanely cool of LP. It's like in movies when you are left to make your own judgements on a scene or ending which adds a personal level to it.

    • @eliteiel9747
      @eliteiel9747 11 місяців тому +1

      @@1polyron1 This song is not about addiction, Mike Shinoda said in a recent Video : ua-cam.com/video/Ff92-41pO9o/v-deo.html . It's all about how you want to relate to the song, that's the special part about many of Linkin Parks songs. I myself relate to it in a darker way, I usually see it as Breaking The Habit as in Breaking the habit of living, so suicide. That thought was also reinforced by the music video of somebody committing suicide in reverse. And I think this is also the way that Chester viewed the song, considering the last of his performances of it. Where when he said "I don't know whats worth fighting for, or why I have to scream But now I have some clarity, to show you what I mean", he would put his fingers up to his head like he was shooting himself, and on the line "to show you what i mean" he would do the motion of the gun going off.
      It's definitely a hard song, it's my favorite Linkin Park song actually. ua-cam.com/video/915iC1qS7MY/v-deo.html :( really depressing to watch you could see he wasn't feeling well AT ALL

    The song is all about someone who feels isolated and hopeless blowing their brains out with a handgun to put an end to an internal suffering they can no longer see a happy ending to. Struggling with a life out of control and the breaking down of one's will to live in a world where they feel they no longer have options or hope in anything getting any better for their situation: they are breaking the habit of a failed life. They feel it's the best soultion for them and the ones they've hurt. Some may find it a horrible anthem or a judge them harshly as cowards but in the end I see it as personal choice that only the person who is faced with it can truly understand. I don't see it as cowardice to end your own life. It's probably one of the hardest and most frightening choices anyone who has done so can face. Respect to Linkin Park for making this song for people like me who have struggled with this to know at least I was not alone with these feelings and issues. It helps a little to know there are others in bigger places who have asked these questions of themselves as well. R.I.P. - Chester Bennington

    My personal interpretation of the last verse helped me overcome suicidal thoughts and tendencies. I heard it as I need to accept that I'll never be alright or I'm never gonna be perfect in anyone's eyes so accept my imperfections. It helped me avoid the feelings of judgement from others and realize I am who I am, and I'm not for everyone.

    Linkin Park isn't rock. Their primary genre at the start of their career was alternative hip hop. Though this particular track is drum n' bass mixed with glitch. They added rock sounds and rock instruments into the music, but it was all built around hip hop beats and samples.
    The primary songwriter of this band is Mike Shinoda, and there's a lot of mental health related content in the music, as well as in his side project Fort Minor and his recent solo work

    • @PenneySounds
      @PenneySounds 5 місяців тому

      @@Jnels27 No, they are not rock. They use some rock sounds, but those sounds are added on top of the the hip hop and electronica that form the foundation of their music. Playing guitar over a hip hop track doesn't make it rock.
