Lyrics
Look
If you had
One shot
Or one opportunity
To seize everything you ever wanted
In one moment
Would you capture it
Or just let it slip?
Yo
His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy
There's vomit on his sweater already, mom's spaghetti
He's nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and ready
To drop bombs, but he keeps on forgettin'
What he wrote down, the whole crowd goes so loud
He opens his mouth, but the words won't come out
He's chokin', how, everybody's jokin' now
The clocks run out, times up, over, blaow
Snap back to reality, ope there goes gravity
Ope, there goes Rabbit, he choked
He's so mad, but he won't give up that easy? No
He won't have it, he knows his whole back's to these ropes
It don't matter, he's dope, he knows that, but he's broke
He's so stagnant, he knows, when he goes back to this mobile home, that's when it's
Back to the lab again, yo, this whole rhapsody
Better go capture this moment and hope it don't pass him
You better lose yourself in the music, the moment
You own it, you better never let it go
You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow
This opportunity comes once in a lifetime
You better lose yourself in the music, the moment
You own it, you better never let it go
You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow
This opportunity comes once in a lifetime
You better
His soul's escaping, through this hole that is gaping
This world is mine for the taking
Make me king, as we move toward a New World Order
A normal life is borin', but super stardom's close to post mortem
It only grows harder, only grows hotter
He blows, it's all over, these hoes is all on him
Coast to coast shows, he's known as the Globetrotter
Lonely roads, God only knows, he's grown farther from home, he's no father
He goes home and barely knows his own daughter
But hold your nose 'cause here goes the cold water
These hoes don't want him no mo', he's cold product
They moved on to the next schmo who flows, he nose dove and sold nada
So the soap opera is told and unfolds, I suppose it's old partna, but the beat goes on
Da-da-dum, da-dum, da-da
You better lose yourself in the music, the moment
You own it, you better never let it go
You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow
This opportunity comes once in a lifetime
You better lose yourself in the music, the moment
You own it, you better never let it go
You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow
This opportunity comes once in a lifetime
You better
No more games, I'ma change what you call rage
Tear this motherfuckin' roof off like two dogs caged
I was playin' in the beginnin', the mood all changed
I been chewed up and spit out and booed off stage

He wasn't just in the movie 8Mile. That movie is based off of his real life experiences. He wrote this song as a summary of how his career started.
Girl you know I literally smh when he said that.
we know dummy
And he's thinking em's cadence in this one is similar to those mumble using one flow for their whole songs. 🤣
You have a nice nose. I like it
@@kennyspicer879 the kid reacting didn't know. Chill clown 😒
1:35 OK Jojo. Eminem was rapping Waaaay before 8 Mile. That movie didn't set his career off. Eminem was a household name before he made that movie
He started writing songs and rapping when he was 12. Then he gave up. Then he started again when he was 15. Then recorded his first album when he was 18.
"maybe this was the movie that got his career to take off"
almost choked on my food laughing at that
Haha me 2 this is funny
🤣🤣
Fr😭😭
Me too... i was shock !!
Lol I almost tripped
I'm not a big fan of rap but, even I recognize the brilliance of this man.
Right on!
thats gotta be racist
Same. 🙌🏻
One of the most motivational songs ever written, not just in hip hop, but across all genres!🐐Hence why it won an Oscar - a pivotal moment in rap history🔥And it's as fresh today as it was 20 yrs ago - an iconic song from an ICONIC Artist. To call Em a Genius is an understatement ☮ Peace from Ireland☘
This came out when I was 40, I am a rock chick, never liked rap, but this blew my mind and still does.
This song won AN OSCAR. That’s all you need to know.
I'm a born and bred Metalhead but I have so much respect for Eminem's music. it's always hard even when he's being funny.
it's a sign of a true musician when they can so easily connect with people that would ordinarily not be listening to their genre
It's interesting... I feel like he's one of the few rappers that have produced truly dynamic and musical songs. But incidentally I see a very similar problem with metal as with rap, being that there are few that shine amidst a sea of mediocrity. Personally I am a metal fan for the musically proficient emotional expression leading to a sense of catharsis. Eminem is surprisingly similar in that sense
That being said, my favorites are TOOL, System of a Down, and Metallica
This. I agree. I love this song and in general, him as an artist, even though this is very not my genre.
This was the first hip hop song to win an an Oscar for best original song. He’s been around since the late 80s and still going. Famous rappers always put him in their top 5. His flow is unmistakable. Yes, do more Eminem!
This is an older one. Most of his music is at least partly autobiographical. He's incredible.
Top 5 easy!!! And I'm a 53 year old metal head but have mad respect for Eminem ❤
Seeing a young person being blown away by the 🐐 Eminem puts a big ol' smile on my 70 year old face!🤣 His influence in the the rap game will never be surpassed and his music will live on forever!💯 Eminem has released 333 songs last time I checked and that does not include the dozens of other songs where he was featured with rap OGs or new rap artists.🤗 This is a very deep rabbit hole young man, I'm sure you are gonna enjoy it!👍Great reaction!😁♥️✌
Mr Aleshire, this puts a HUGE smile on my face! I'm just a bit younger than Em (just turned 39) and I love seeing when people can enjoy and appreciate music that may not have been made in their teens and 20's. Although I have to admit, I'm jealous of the stuff you got to experience being heard for the first time in your teens and 20's that too many dismiss today. Keep spreading the love!
@@joecalvert53I've been a Stan since the Slim Shady days.🤭 He was such a rebel! 😅 In my younger days, I lived during an unreal revolution/renaissance in music.💯 I went to my first concert my senior year (69-70). I saw Led Zeppelin 🔥 when they only had two albums out!🤗 Jethro Tull opened up for them.😳 My first concert and my first acid trip!🤯🤣 It was a great time to be young and crazy!😁❤✌
@@tomaleshire4145 oh man!!! That's crazy. I bet you have so many great stories to tell. haha!
@@joecalvert53 Oh yeah!😁 Problem is I don't remember most of them!🤯🤪🤣😅❤✌
Lol, Naive white people buying all the phony UA-cam reactions.. send him 20 bucks and he’ll pretend to be amazed by Dolly Parton too!
Rap is an acronym: Rhythm and Poetry. If you have no poetry, is it rap?
That's why I agree; this is real rap.
That's not true, the term Rap comes from the English term meaning "to strike a blow with force", which was used metaphorically for delivering a heavy/forceful message, which eventually became a good name for this vocal style. It's coincidental that Rhythm and Poetry is essentially both what Rap is described as and consists of the right letters to make an acronym after the fact.
@@TheBlackQueen No one asked for the dictionary, you better keep waiting for your moment to come tho 🤓😔
@@tahaammar9724 Why the disrespect?
@@TheBlackQueen because mumble rap is shit
@@tahaammar9724dont have to be a bitch about it man
What I like about Eminem is that he really isn't rapping. He's basically performing in a middle ground between rapping and singing, which makes it both powerful and emotional.
Listen to all of the rap legends, to further your musical experience.
Btw, Eminem won a Grammy & a Oscar for this!
Enjoy the ride!
He is unquestionably one of the greatest artistic wordsmiths we've ever been graced with. And as the cherry on top, he's raw, visceral, and willing to expose and discuss his own self doubts, insecurities and imperfections through his art. In the end, I'm sure his music has been a form of self therapy, as well as his way of putting those emotions out there for any who've been there...or can at the very least, relate to the struggle.
If not purely made for fun, art that doesn't cause an emotive response in those who hear/view/experience it has, in my opinion, missed its mark. Em has never missed the mark.
I love artists who put themselves in such a state of vulnerability. I've seen your reactions to some of another mind-bending band out there, Tool, whose singer Maynard is exactly the same way. Two completely different genres and writing styles, yet remarkably similar in their willingness to bare all in their music. Em is the MJK of rap to me, hands down.
Love your reactions man, and look forward to watching more on Em in particular. 🤘
I paused the video at 1:40 to leave a comment about the movie and saw your comment, but I really don't have anything to add. I'm sorry if this doesn't make sense, but your comment made me really happy because a lot of people don't dig deeper or try to understand things at this level. Tool is one of my all-time favorite groups, btw.
Well said, absolutely spot on that man. I love Eminem for the very same reason too cos he wears his heart on his sleeve, just like another great singing artist that was incredible yet incredibly vulnerable too, that artist being Kurt Cobain of Nirvana who ended up shooting himself in the head just like Eminem Raps about in some of his songs! Both geniuses in their own rights!
@@markdermody9698 Cortney Love 100% had Kurt Cobain killed. Their is way too much evidence, from the amount of heroine in his system to the fact the shotgun shell was too far away from him AND on the wrong side of the gun, to really think he did it to himself.
Brah you said everything 😂 thankyou 😎 ❤️ 🙏
I agree ❤ my kids were in teens now in 30s. Would cite me his lyrics before playing his songs. N then I introduced them to Pink Floyd lol. ❤
You don't have to be a rap fan to instantly recognize this song. It was everywhere. All radii stations played it.
‘‘Em was already a well established rapper before 8 mile. He was discovered by Dr. Dre years earlier. They’re still tight today.
I would put headphones on my stomach with this Album on when I was pregnant with my son. My son is 22 now and He's literally loved Em Since The Womb🙌❤ He IS 🔥!!! Welcome To TRUTH!👑 and Much Love to You and Yours!😄
You’re a role model for mothers.
My son’s the same and learnt what words he was allowed to say and which were naughty words that even mummy and daddy weren’t allowed to say. I never let him listen to Kim though. Big love to you
Yes mama . My kids are the same
8 Mile Soundtrack released 20 years ago...
The reason why you like it, it's called musicianship. He actually had to think about what he was saying instead of this mumble bullshit.
As a lyricist I really really love this song, it is one of the few Rap songs I have in my playlist. What I LOVE about Eminem is his ability to just keep going and goin with verses, I mean I love the chorus, but the verses are just amazeballz!! I appreciate great flow in any kind of music, but Rap and Metal are the only ones you really see this level of flow from, and the way it escalates and builds in the final verse especially to like a crescendo.... I don't know how you can't be in awe of it. Even if not your style of music, just recognize Game!!
Metal songs like this I can think of off top of my head... Guns N Roses' Don't Damn Me, and Coma has a last verse that is like this a bit. Suicidal Tendencies I think has a few songs like this too. Oh and Linkin Park's High Voltage! You love to hear it, it's just awesome to hear great verse that Rocks like this!!
I love seeing younger people listening to my childhood music 🤣 makes me appreciate how much better music was back then! And your queen reactions, good job bro keep it up
Eminem is a great man, raised his own daughter, found his brother that was placed in foster care and then raises as his daughter, his daughters cousin from her mother's side, so she wouldn't be placed in foster care ❤️
Wow you are a baby!! I just laughed so hard at everything you said. Lol ya’ll youngins need a music education.
I totally get how you feel and it sounds crazy but if you really start listening to Eminem (not just his songs that were on the radio) it would blow your mind how many songs are just.. perfect by him. Perfect in a way where I can’t picture a song better and then I’ll hear another one of his and feel that way again! He’s so inspiring, there’s no other way for me to say it but it’s almost not human how amazing he is musically, relatability, delivery, just in every way. I’ve been listening to him since 1999-2000 and I just can’t get sick of him.. If you love this song and the feeling it gave you, you should definitely check out some more of his music 🙂 I don’t think anyone has ever had the effect he does on the number of ppl he does in the number of countries he does lol insane..
This was my first favorite rap song and it never left my playlist! Great reaction to an epic song!
Fun Fact- Gillian flynn danced to this song during her writers block, when she was pregnant and during that time she was also working this little book called, Gone Girl. David Fincher directed the movie in 2014.
Jojo,
I just gotta tell you, I been following your dad since the start. And as amazing as that journey has been, I'm even more excited to follow your musical journey today ❤
There are so many amazing artists in rap/hip-hop, but Em is definitely among top. His bars are insanely complex and brilliant. His ability to rhyme by adjusting inflection and annunciation is impeccable. There's no doubt having the privilege to work so closely with Dre has had it's benefits, but Eminem isn't a carbon copy, he's made it very much known he is his own man. His influence is felt across hip-hop today. There's a reason he's often referred to as the GOAT. So fun seeing people discovering these older folks. Don't let age fool you, he's still hitting it hard!
Hey bud, I think you would really enjoy alot of Eminem's work. A huge amount is drawn from his life and struggles his early life was a complete mess honestly he is an inspiration to so many. Keep up the great videos :D
Kid, welcome to the song that was on basically EVERYONE'S workout playlist.
His word play is unsurpassed! Just genius!
I'm portuguese and Eminem is one of the best English teachers I've ever had...I still know every word of this song after 20years!
Won an oscar for best song
I been watching your videos for a minute and I love how much you've grown to respect and understand Em. Hearing you talk here cracked me up no cap.
He’s an absolute genius !! I don’t always agree with some of the things he raps about but his talent is unmatched
All these years later this music still cuts deep..... especially the "living in a trailer" part i can relate to so much. ❤ this guy. #313
Easily top 5 favorite Em songs all time. I mean I was in my teens when this dropped and I still go nuts for this song in my thirties.
Funny fact - Eminem did not belive, when nominated to OSCAR, he will win... So when his name was called... He was SLEEPING. GOAT.
PS. Apropos KILLING IT - I recommend songs like Killer Remix (Em feat new gen), My Darling(one of most unappreciated songs of his, imo), Marsh, or Darkness.
And, of course, from 'You KNOW he was THAT GOOD' - White America, MOSH(aka Bush diss song) and of course Like Toy Soldiers... Through I can't not mention 'Go to Sleep* ...
There is SO MUCH GOLD to dig in. And I am not even' true fan', like I know maybe only 15 songs of Em... But darn love 'em. 😉
E is hands down the best rapper ever
Agree
Easily. Anyone who don't agree are dumbed down and the bars go over their heads
The thing is Em is great at switching flow and keeping in the pocket of that flow. He is an absolute genius when it comes to rapping.
I love your reactions to songs plus the occasional pronunciation of the band names. Your discovery of music is a joy to watch and mirrors our reaction is what we all feel
This song is timeless.
wow its 2022 and your just now learning about the GOAT .
I really love your honest reaction to this, which is the same reaction we all have to someone's genius. Eminem is a genius in his field, like him or not. We all have a talent. Seek and nurture yours.
I played college basketball from 2008-2012 and officially an old ass man but legit hearing just the intro to this song still gives me goosebumps of adrenaline/excitement lol such a classic
He is so talented in many ways that’s why he is the Greatest.
He won an Oscar for this song
This song is an Oscar-winner, believe it, or not. Won for best song in motion picture, so--highest honors.
The greatest fact about Em is he is the best rapper when he takes the lyrics seriously (Lose yourself, Cleanin out my closet, Highlights...) but he is also the best rapper when do his comical songs like Without me, Just Lose it, The real slim shady...
Eminem actually left after performing this song live because he thought he wasn't going to get the Oscar award. Turns out he did win the Oscar award.
He was never at the show when he won
I just love how he pretends to listen to it for the first time and then just starts sing along haha🤣❤️
Dre set his career off LOL great reaction!
Yeah man that is Eminem's best song. They played it on the radio for a long time, it was in his movie Eight Mile.
Cool Man.
Gary from Tennessee ✌️🤘
If you think this one's good, you should hear the original one that he scrapped. I think Paul was the one that found it and convinced him to put it on his Shady XV album
@@rondutertre3367 i must say im kinda wishing he fleshed that demo version out more i like it more than this one
There's videos on here that detail his life. You should watch it. Em has had a really hard life and has a heartbreaking past. The movie was made based on his life, he'd already made it before that came out. Most of his songs are based on his life experiences and gives the message to "never give up, no matter what" and that's why he's an inspiration to a lot of people 💜
Eight mile is his story played by him
"If you don't know this song, you aren't a music fan" LOL. Truth.
Coming across this video made my day. I'm subscribing on this alone.
Pure love ♥️
Not even started it, and I can tell by the intro this one will be amazing😂
this song was what I looked for some motivation when I struggled in college with some classes. it helped me to keep going. to find a way.
One of my favorite songs and I don’t even normally listen to this genre. 🙌🏻
Em been my man since 1997
Everytime this song starts and he starts talking about one shot to get everything uever wanted I a
ALWAYSs get chills like forreal
It's too funny to see the reactions to stuff we loved and still love. Yes our music was the best ever!! Lol
Eminem is always in the pocket no matter young old dead whatever
Lyrical genius🎹. Wordsmith 💡📚📖
I’m an old lady & not a rap fan ( rock & blues for me) but this song stopped me in my tracks when I first heard it. I really like him. I love Stan too🤘🏼
Jojo you are hyping to this song ❤ Em is dope and 🐐of 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐
The song that made everyone like rap! I’ve been an 80s rock/metalhead since the 80s and after this hit I couldn’t help but like and respect rap/ hip hop too.
This actually is my all time favorite Eminem song. My parents hate rap music but they actually like the song & the movie 8Mile that when THEY were the ones who wanted to watch it out of the blue one day I was in shock! I’m still trying to get them into anything else I possibly can but it could be this one song & only 8Mile was the exception. I’m still beyond thrilled whenever they want to watch 8Mile again though. I love that movie!
Hes number one selling and most viewed song is this one
You are right...he is the best rapper...IMHO
This song IS his life, his roots, where he came from.
Respect
First Rap song to Ever win an Oscar!!! Eminem didn't even go to the awards because he didn't think he'd win! lol Eminem lived here in Detroit! In the poorer side of town! He grew up poor in an all black hood! He never had it easy growing up! That "pocket"...yes it's where they got from!!! He uses his voice like its a percussion instrument!!!
My dad (who loved a lot of the classic rock stuff you've been reviewing: Led Zeppelin, ACDC, Fleetwood Mac, Rolling Stones) never liked Rap. In fact, you could say he hated it. But he actually did like this song very much.
Also, as for older Hip Hop/Rap classics, have you ever listened to Hyptonize by Notorious B.I.G.? That would be a great one for you to review if you don't know it.
This is my favorite ever since I first heard it.
I think this was also my first song that I remembered of his. This was when I was a teenager when he was alive. 😊 👍❤️
This is why we love M! 🙌😊🔥🔥🔥🔥
Em is the best ever
Love to see u getting into EM. Please check out "sing for the moment" - the last verse is for me personally one of the best schemes of all time if not a sole #1
Damn Jojo is growing up before our eyes.
He's a master 🙌 👏
This is my #1 Hype-Up song before game day🏈😎🥇
My favourite artist it is what it is ❤
I remember this song was played during our school orientation in college. Heck, it became one of my top motivational songs in life.
Im 59 ive loved his music ever since he started
Christ it’s still one of the greatest songs ever written
Knowledge is power
I just watched this movie last week..., haven't watched it since the early 2000s... freakin' awesome.
This song just kicks ass...period
Your a STAN!! 🙌😊🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Hit hard cause it's real shit- he lived every word....
One whole generation plus another half of a generation will agree with you that all the hooks in this are fire.
It's a reason this song is diamond certified
Man’s just giving the whole song
Em spitting straight truths....destroying the dictionary in the process. ha
Keep making videos, you get it.
There's no way you haven't listened to Eminem growing up, especially with your dad around you playing some bangers!
I was the 999th like.
he wrote this song and won an oscar for it man
Back in the day, Em faced a lot of adversity when he started out because the public opinion of rap music was that it was "by black people, for black people" and that Em was just a white boy trying to be black, a sentiment that still carries to this day sadly. Then he got discovered by Dr. Dre and Em finally got his shot. Now damn nearly 30 years later, Eminem is still one of the biggest rap artists on the planet who made the genre universal and opened the door for future artists, both white and black.
The Hymn of Rap! 😁
