I dont think Hrithik is that good of an actor. He is passable. I dont see Hrithik being able to act in demanding movies like Ek Banda, OMG 2, 12th Pass, etc. When I think of good actors I see Manoj Bajpayee, KK Menon, Ali Fazal, Madhavan, Massey. Hrithik is not anywhere in the same league.
Super 30, Guzaarish, Koi Mil gaya, jusy that he has not got that much acting centric movies coz of his good looks, physique and dancing skills, you've to realise that every l actor has a limited hours to give in and producrs want to utilise aspects of a star that is more overshadowed, in Hrithik's case, his looks and dance@@dragonbane44
His acting skills are as overated as his dancing skills to be honest..he is an avg-above avg actor at best, though few of his script choices like guzarish have been good..
@@dragonbane44 Lol. Watch hrithik's acting range in movies like agneepath, guzaarish, vikram vedha, kaabil. And i agree, no way he can be compared to manoj or pankaj tripathi. If you compare him with superstars like salman, srk, prabhas, in my opinion he's way better than them. And watch koi mil gaya if you have not watched hrithik is comedy genre, he's not done much comedy but he's good enough in koi mil gaya.
Unpopular Opinion: -Break ke Baad was a good rom com. -Aladdin 2009 was a good film. And directed well by Sujoy Ghosh and a good adaption of the classic story with great songs. -Rani Mukerji and Preity Zinta were the last rom coms queens of Hindi Cinema
An unpopular opinion: When Salman Khan delivers something not for a fan service but totally dedicated to cinema He shines but the exact opposite for SRK when he does fan service movies He just Hits it out of the park...
i think SRK's just good at both, while Salman khan's massy movies come across as a little stupid (not hating, it's just what a lot of ppl feel about him)
SRK may not have achieved success with experimental films, like Swades, Ra One, Fan or even Dunki. But they are much better than his masala movies like Dilwale, HNY & Pathaan
Ajay Devgan thing is completely true , When i appreciate Ajay devgan in insta my friends laugh at me but He is one of the best actor in industry. Thanks you for saying this..
I have been thinking about this for a while. This channel and a lot of my friends have been talking about how Mammooty in recent years has been doing all sorts of films, good or bad, commercial or story oriented. And when looking for a Hindi language equivalent of the same, I thought Ajay Devgn ticks those boxes for the exact reasons Jammy described.
@@mihirojha4475 agreed. They portray in movies as they are true patriotic and heros but reality is for them only money matters. They know they are role models for the people but they don't bother. Now people should understand whom they should follow.
@@fannr282it depends also on choreography....also they always give him steps according to his style..that's a minus point..also he is reaching 50..we can't expect him like in 2000's...he have to take a rest a bit like srk and wait for the better script..i don't don't like him doing remake movies
7:24 No it's because people have become woke. You (jammy) made them woke by critizing every single petty thing. I realized now that even if you said the right points your conclusions will be so wrong bcuz of your political agenda. It's like watching a picture puzzle game having all the right pieces but ends up getting absurdly formed.

Does the financial background of male leads in rom-coms subconsciously add to their appeal? Yes, definitely. If they come from a high class background, they're rich. If they are lower class, they're hard-working/ struggling. If they're middle class, they're relatable. People find Ayushmann Khurrana's characters charming as well in movies like Vicky Donor or Badhai Ho even though they're not extremely rich. So yes, the financial background of the characters do add to liking them, just the reason behind liking them changes according to what exactly the background is.
There are middle class romcoms also atleast in K'wood, M'wood and even in Marathi, Dhanush's Thiruchitrambalam and Yaaradi Nee Mohini are clear examples, from M'wood, a classic actor like Dileep (he was among the Big Ms batch during his intro in the industry) had romcoms like Vettam (directed by Priyan) and Mr Buttler, even recently Naslen's Premalu (from the director of Thanneer Mathan Dinangal, a school based mid class romcom) is also a middle class romcom.
Truth be told you can't show open shirts and glamorous dances and love being the only issue in life if the characters aren't rich 😊. Would you imagine a poor middle class guys and girls life have only problem of love.nope. That is not possible . Also foreign locations lavish functions trips are all part of bwod romcoms or Hollywood. Poor people can't have that
My heart goes out to Mrunal, Sanya and Wamiqa. They need to be acknowledged and loved way more and not just dismiss them as just pretty faces who don't know their craft. And your point about animated movies! Boy, supreme nostalgia! Does anyone remember the rage of animated Hindu mythology movies after the craze of Hanuman in 2005! What days, man!
i m rooting for both sanya and mrunal day by day they are getting better and better. i think a good web series can give justice to them more than a big movie like it did to Samantha Ruth. i dont know who wamiqa is

Unpopular Opinion- everyone has started having too many opinions. Enjoy a movie because of the good acting, great story, extravagant sets, the theatre experience is such a joy when a movie comes together like a piece of puzzle put together. I totally agree with all your points also there is so much criticism about Bollywood doing the same things over and over but when they do something different it goes unnoticed.
I agree with most of it...these days people will get offended and critical about everything under the sun... the main purpose of entertainment is sadly defeated these days when people get unnecessarily complex in their analysis...I think we should just chill and take entertainment for just that... enjoyable experience 😊
Sadly the state of social media and an environment where one has to stand out for engagement has caused for quite a toxic environment for those who simply love films for entertainment.
You said alia deepika and Katrina's name but in reality jahanvi, sara, ananya are the reason why talented actresses like mrunal and sanya never get opportunities.
Exactly deepika, alia , katrina are superstars now and most of the men have problem with successful women . I dont understand nobody question srk ,salman , amir . Or why other talented actors not getting chances like them . But no these people will put question on alia , deepika, Katrina even jammy also . All men are same they can't think of women getting more recognition than men 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌

Hey Anmol, hope you are doing well, I totally agree that YJHD would fail in today's time. But I don't agree that Bunny & Naina didn't deserve a happy ending. I always feel that YJHD didn't actually had an ending. I would really love to see a part two of this movie, where Naina & Bunny tries their best to make their relation work, make adjustments for each other, learn & opt best things from each others personality. I really feel that thats how a perfect relationship is built. And about Rom Com worked because "It was a Rich guy that approached" is not really right, Movies like Ludo where saniya finally chose aditya, Ajab Prem ki Gazab Kahani, Bareli ki barfi, etc.... there are several more examples where girl fell for efforts & never or money, & so were in TJMM, RRKPK, JWM....... It's like you said, people will find what they want to find.
I think yhhd still works and I am part of the audience that finds everything problematic I am 19 years old so yeah. I also think a relationship works when people improve themselves for the person they love and bunny wouldn't run away when he got the chance to as he already grew a lot in the end of the movie he would grow even more afterwards
I always feel people look at the characters from a very surface level approach. Bunny and Naina really did love each other and I've seen umpteen times of couples who seem radically different work. I think the fact that Bunny always noticed and accommodated to Naina's needs whenever they were near each other shows that he really cares for him. Naina is also not as passive as people believe just because she wears glasses and is shy. Mind you I am Gen Z and still feel the film is not as problematic as people think.
I’m married to bunny in my real life, insecurity of him leaving doesn’t go away but I can see so much , love & care towards me which I have never experienced so I took the risk
Wamiqa is a known name in punjabi cinema.... her noteworthy punjabi movies in the recent past were Galwakdi and kali jotta....glad that she is getting good scripts in hindi film industry
Unpopular opinion: Films sell stories and the stories can be about anything under the sun. They aren’t obligated to always have moral connotations with a green flag protagonist. Sadly, the irony is we desire stories to be out of the box original content pieces but always expect them to have good wins over evil flair to it…which would eventually make every story the same! Also, what’s with Bollywood giving Ananya, Jhanvi, Arjun and others from film families multiple chances to redeem themselves despite having actors like Sanya, Wamiqa & Mrunal. It’s like the films have become a training ground for the filmy kids till they finally make it while the outsiders fight for mediocre monotonous opportunities!
Yeah stories could be about anything and everything. Including evil things. Most of the times, evil actually does win over good in real world. But that's the thing, the director needs to portray it as wrong. This is the same argument used for movie heroes harassing the female lead and this being portrayed romantic. Harassment has always happened. It's the filmmaker's decision to show it as a good thing that needs to get rewarded that's wrong. If ur opinion is anything related to Kabir Singh or Animal, just know that the director thinks many of the actions done by the main character of these movies are correct when they are not, many viewers also think the same as him. and it's visible from his filmmaking as well. Agar koi villain, female lead ko harass karega, if he slaps her, the background music would be sinister, not romantic. If the villain marries the girl in the end, it won't be portrayed as a happy ending. Vanga made his characters shitty as hell but tried to make us like them. Adding a happy song at the end of Kabir Singh doesn't dissolve Kabir of his actions🤷🏻♀️

Ranveer Singh is undoubtedly one of the most versatile and talented actors in Bollywood today. However, it's unfortunate that he often finds himself misunderstood and subjected to unnecessary trolling. From intense dramas to romance or comedy, Ranveer has proven time and again that he has the skills to portray a wide array of characters with authenticity and flair. I just really hope he kicks it out of the park with Don 3!
I really feel bad, that people alwayyyssss consider him only 2nd to ranbir in terms of acting. But come on man!! He gave characters like bajirao peshwa, khilji, gully boy, 83etc.. we can't imagine ranbir in such versatile roles.. yes ranbir is really good in rockstar, barfi etc.. but not as versatile as ranveer. Idk i also feel ranbirs comedy timing is off, like he overdo's in romcoms. But ranveer had even pulled off a cringeable character like rocky randhawa and made it feel soo innocent and lovable. Where i didnt feel the same in ae dil hai mushkil.. for me ranveer >>>> ranbir.
I love Kangana Ranaut a lot. She was so good in Dham Dhoom and her chemistry with Jayam Ravi is so good. I just hope she abandons her politics and focus on her acting career.
Honestly i have felt the same regarding Mrunal Thakur and other Actors. For example Nayanthara has been named as the Lady Superstar in tamil industry in the south. But actors like the Veteran Nithya Menon and upcoming talent Nimisha Sajayan from Malayalam industry who acted in Chittha does not have much recognition compared to even Mrunal among the mass audience. I really feel bad that Nithya Menon mam has always been underrated and deserves much more for her experience and talent.
To get the lady superstar tag the actress should be able to do both glamorous and realistic roles convincingly. Nayan has done both. There are many great actresses but to become a star is very difficult
the first 53 seconds of the video were PURE CINEMA! SHEER CINEMATIC BRILLIANCE! The writing, the acting, the payoff, the homage to 'iss cheez pe nahi bolneka', the silence in background which heightens the tension, oh boy, each second of it was pure Cinema! You literally reminded me of the first 40 seconds of 'Animal' Trailer. (I guess thoda zyada ho gaya but you killed it with the intro!)

I think KJo has been strongly seeking relevance and validation since forever, maybe due to some underlying childhood trauma and self esteem issues. Just an observation, I don't intend to demean anyone.
Anyone who has been clearly gay in an industry like cinema for so long I am sure he has read every possible horrible thing about himself so his every move would scare him of how people would react. It's not surprising to me why he apologizes a lot most of his trauma comes from the society we live in itself
I actually feel bad for him.. he receives so MUCH HATE on a daily basis for just about anything! His Instagram is filled with nothing but hate comments! No one deserves that .. of course it would effect anyone's mental health.
My unpopular opinion: Bengali Cinema needs to be in limelight because their content game has always been top-notch when it comes to the art cinema space. Makers like Srijit Mukherji and Kaushik Ganguly, can be considered to be modern-day auteurs in the Bengali space after Satyajit Ray, Ritwak Ghatak, Mrinal Sen and Rituparno Ghosh. They really are making ground-breaking work but I feel so disappointed that their works go unnoticed always by other parts of the country. We need to talk about Bengali Cinema more. I wish they get their due soon. ❤️ I'm not Bengali, though. Just a lover of cinema.😅
My unpopular opinion, especially in the later years when a certain actor also showcased good work when under capable directors.. "Aapne Inception dekhi hai? You liked it? You understood it?.. Then you will like Dilwaale also" is not equating Inception with Dilwaale... as is oft misquoted. Look at Varun Dhawan's eyes in that clip... judge the expression. It means "if you have brains enough to understand and like Inception, we hope you can also like Dilwaale because it doesn't require much usage of grey matter as it is a fairly simple story"
I have also come to realise that sarcasm just does not sit right with audiences. I remember so many times where I have had to clarify that I was joking about something so absurd. People take everything literally
@@slayer81 Animal is a class one film, copy that. Audience were busy mongering hate but Vanga left so many clues and so many metaphors were there, for eg : 1) Converted muslim being originally our own but need to be killed if they cause harm to us from the lyrics of B PRAAK in “ Saari Duniya Jala Denge “ 2) Hitler Reference while motivating/ provocating workers. Swastik and Nazi generalisation squashed. 3) Rannvijay cigarette smoking style exactly like his father. Abrar and Rannvijay being actually the same kind of men on the opposite extremes coz they are divided by conflict united by blood. 4) Rannvijay and Gitanjali relationship arc literally mocked the GENZ relationships (which are sadly driven by lust & ego issues only). 5) Rannvijay killing anyone & everyone to protect his father to realise that in the end all his efforts were worthless as his father was about to die. He lost his sense of smell, taste, hearing, father is about to die, wife and kids leaving him, 2 brothers brutally killed by a butcher who is blood thirsty & ready to extract vengeance and still the CHARACTER WAS GLORIFIED AS PER PSEUDO WOKE. Stupid Audience. All of them. People have forgotten how to watch a movie completely raw, unfiltered under the guise of virtue signalling. It’s the best kickass film of the decade. I only felt this alive in the theatres when I watched DON 2. Just Kickass.
When it comes to choosing partners, regardless of what one says, most of us get attracted to a "good looking" partner. But when we see that on-screen, we are unable to digest the hypocrisy. That's what I truly feel about people complaining about Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, especially young kids nowadays. How many of them are actually falling for an Anjali at their age!!??
Tbh beyond the aesthetics and music of YJHD, I never got the craze for it even when it released. Story is so predictable and superficial. And friendship was lackluster compared to what our generation felt with DCH or ZNMD.
I absolutely agree to disagree with you!! I thought at that time and still do think that Bollywood has never before or after YJHD delivered a perfect Romcom
@@happysoul_97 Exactly that was the point..I have been like Naina all my school life!! my hot take is that indian animation should try to look beyond myths and epics. i understand that you want to make a story at a grand scale and scope which animation allows to be stylized, which works excellently with the ramayana and mahabharata (and related topics, like say chotta bheem), but my god would i like to see something more modern, or even just NEW. the legend of prince ram applied so many anime stylings to the ramayana to great effect, and i wonder if someone would try to apply a more indian touch to other stories too! absolutely agree about mrunal, sanya and wamiqa. I just saw jubilee and she was great! i guess it just feels like there isn't really a massive pool of top actresses - it's mostly just been, as you said, Deepika, Alia, and Katrina. Who i like, but god knows btown could use some fresh faces, many of whom have been proven down south or in OTT i think the wealth thing is definitely a factor at least in some cases, but it's hard to say. obviously it's a non-factor in something like 12th fail, but outside something like gehraiyaan where we do see a wealth divide (and the implication of deepika's character resenting ananya's character for being wealthy), i think most people, even if they are influenced by wealth, it doesn't matter as much, typically because there isn't really a sense of disparity or desperation. ajay devgn is certainly good, especially if you look at his long term film graph, but several of his misfires (bhuj most notably) have been REALLY bad, and overall he has been okay considering the last few years. my real hot take is that ajay should direct more - u me aur hum is a shockingly well-made film i loathe people who act like depiction = promotion. it's the same type of people who argued that gehraiyaan glorified cheating (lmao). SLB makes everything at an operatic, melodramatic scale, especially since devdas re: kangana - she's made her bed, frankly. re: karan - i personally think karan is just way too online and even if he doesn't talk about it on social media, he definitely seems to have taken a lot of the criticism (some reasonable, some less so) very much to heart also lmao who thought hrithik is an average dancer?!
Great observations. Casting of Alia, Deepika and Katrina over and over again in A list films has become a boring norm now. Hindi cinema is very narrow minded regarding this matter. Something malayalam cinema has nailed. Although a regressive industry in reality, you get to see actors from diverse backgrounds playing amazing roles. Funnily the so called powerful people do decide to push certain actors and create a star out of them. I think it was unfair that Shahid Kapoor was not even nominated for Kabir Singh and RK won for animal. Some unknown power play is definitely at play. Even Kriti Sanon doesn't seem to be getting great opportunities as that of A listers.
Anybody still has any doubts of Hrithiks dancing skills, as they might have seen many South actors dancing unbelievably. Then just know that they got the choreographers who make them dance so effortlessly (and ofcourse their hardwork also) A good combination Hrithik and choreographer will blow our mind without any doubts ✌🏻✌🏻
If you follow the srk movie you will realise that to portray his character more emotional or dramatic he uses his Batman voice and that voice is in his every drama movie. You just have to watch his every drama movie
I think the romcom question is more complex than that because the answer is yes and no. The money helps the man woo the girl and it can be great defining factor on why a girl would choose him in the romcom, however I think this is a good test on how to spot a well written romcom from a bad one. If you strip the man of his wealth, does the way he treats the girl and the personality he shows still merit the happily ever after many romcoms end on, or does it suddenly seem ridiculous that a girl would ever chose him?
Jammy about that boldcare ad, a BIG reason it got approved because it's written by Tanmay Bhat and Vishal Dayama who have sort of become a brand in themselves (coz of AIB). If you notice, the humor and the writing style has been the same since the time they started creating CRED ads. Clients agree to such absurd concepts because it's created by such big names. I have worked in ad agencies and people come up with even more creative concepts than these. But they get shot down because they are just a run-of-the-mill copywriter 😅
Thank you for pointing out animation segment. In my opinion animation will only evolve with enriching comic/manga culture. I am working on my webtoon hope you can read it someday and support this webtoon creater community
Most hate being poor and middle class and watching their dream get trapped there would be too much to bear for most of our public, hence the rich protagonists 😊 A very good episode.
Karam ki talvar from Arjun: the warrior prince is still in my gym playlist. The roar in Sukhwinder Singh's voice and the lyrics praising Arjun's ability and humility still gives me goosebumps. If it re-releases I would take my little niece and nephew to see that movie.
Unpopular Opinion: Kangana Ranaut isn't as good of an actress as everyone hails her out to be. She gave a few good performance in Queen, Tanu Weds Manu 1 and 2, and a little bit of Fashion, other than that, she's been pretty mediocre and not as good, her dialogue delivery is really bad as well with a few exceptions.
I agree. And her vocals are are strenuous on the ears. She's a good actor sure, but she's not great as everyone makes her to be. She is definitely overhyped mostly because of her talk on nepotism. Surely now, she's overbold too.
This is so shameful that people are hating someone so much ( coz she hurt nepo babies)...they can't even see how great she is in acting.....in all of her movies , she has given tremendous performances even if the script is bad..... People love bakwaas acting of nepos but can't tolerate opinionated women......actually she doesn't need to prove haters anything coz she is in a place where she doesn't give shit about haters.... anyone can hate others personality...no one can deny about her acting skill...... jealousy is something that will eat haters like these inside out so soon.....she is the Queen who's very versatile talented n capable actor of this generation n the outsider woman who's doing women centric powerful movies by herself without any support of big gang.......she got her first national award early of her career.....from the day 1 , she showed potential n hardwork.....but anyways keep loving ur nepos😂 n kangana is happy in her Mansion ❤❤
@@abhijitrathaa1990 no we don't like bad acting nepo babies either. No one is hating her because she spoke about nepotism. In fact people like her more and are applauding her acting skills so she deserves even more because she spoke so boldly about nepotism. Most people in the audience didn't even know about nepotism before she spoke about it. What we are saying is that currently she is overhyped. She can act, but her personality had become so dramatic. She's become someone who resents others because now it's become like natural for her even the other person is not bad. I used to watch her interviews and really like her, until recently I realised a few interviews are so dramatic and creating problems where she is not even involved or things from way back in the past. On top of that, she does have a problem with her voice articulation. It's strenuous on the ears. When it comes to nepo babies they also get slashed...I mean look at Khushi kapoor, her vocal articulation was really bad in Archies and she really got trolled for it. If you are a good actor no one will mock you, maybe the Bollywood mafia won't give u better roles if u are not from their circle, but the audience won't troll u if you are a good actor. I know there are nepo babies that aren't good actors and still get good roles and that's what we don't like. But just because someone is a nepo baby doesn't mean they are a bad actor either... Take Ranbir Kapoor or Hrithik Roshan for example....these are really good strong actors. On another hand, actors like Alia Bhatt are good at acting but are also overhyped and it's becoming boring on the eyes to see the same actress in these big movies. Everyone has their share of audience bashing. But, the conclusion is that Kangana is being overhyped.
This right here is the reason why I love this channel and love your opinions. The fact that it's just not limited to what social media says it's your opinions and the fact that other opinions are also welcomed so well. I like this thing a lot

As I glide through the effortless video by you Jammy, I come to the realisation that we as an audience have evolved leaps and bounds with progressing time. This evolution has been a hell of a ride. From enjoying particular movies in their particular time frame of release to the present where it is regarded as offensive or a better term "problematic". But these days we are diverting from the major point of cinematic experience that being the story and the story telling and more gravitating towards whats problematic and whats not. Nevertheless, loved your take on these popular subjects and i appreciate it a lot
the ranveer johnny ad was just superbly effective and it reminded me of the old indian ads...creative and no f's given!! that was a most creative ad in recent times
Bang on about animated films! It would be so much fun to see that again! Most of Indian animators go to foreign countries and work for animated films there and all we can do us just enjoy what they make because they are working where their work is appreciated definitely. But it still makes me think about what heights Indian animated films can achieve! Instead of vfx led movies which are neither here nor there, stuck in mediocrity, we should now have a resurfacing of animated indian films that absorb the talent of the animators, and also represent our rich cultural heritage. Missing all those cartoon animated movies that made my childhood golden 🥹🥹
I disagree on the Sanjay Leela point. In actuality gangubai was no saint and herself was involved in dirty deeds. All of that is not shown at all in the film. I doubt in Heeramandi he will show the dark reality and subjugation of women by Mughal Kings. Don't you think so? Gangubai is clearly a glorification of sex work and the criminal woman.
Jammy, you've been spot on with your analysis in this video!! That Boldcare ad was progressive and approachable (especially considering the wider Indian audience). I've also noticed the rich guy trope of Bollywood romcoms these days. The movies make sure to give the main characters at least one of the two- wealth or fame. I often reminisce about the old Hindi movies of the 80s, 90s and early 2000s when the trope of 'poor guy, rich girl' was seen in almost every other movie, and the main character was a down-on-luck, boy next door. Class divide is still very much prevalent in Indian society. Today's movies are missing this.
Finally someone talked about Shahrukh's strange dialogue delivery. It felt like the dubbing was also very low quality at some instances. Somewhere even synchronisation was not going with the lips/mouth.
I agree with most of the points but i personally feel yjhd would still work in today's times. Considering it rereleased for valentine's week and people still went for it (though that's partially because of nostalgia factor). Yjhd is liked beyond the fact that its just a romcom and widely appreciated because of the friendship dynamic. And regarding bunny and Naina inspite of the insta debate about whether bunny is a red flag (much like kkhh) i personally disagree. Though the character did have some problematic traits i do not think the ending was forced. Bunny did have a chance to leave but he didn't. So as mentioned we can agree to disagree or rather tu wrong nahi hai bus mujhse bohat alag hai
Your take on wealthy male characters being attractive, literally got me thinking. It is indeed true if we look at the films in retrospect. Whether it's problematic or not, needs to be contemplated.
Finally someone talked about Indian animation man ! I really miss that era where even animated movies were given importance just like other mainstream movies. DASHAVATHAR, MY FRIEND GANESHA, GHATOTHKACH, HANUMAN AND RETURN OF HANUMAN, BAL GANESH, KRISHNA MOVIES and many more. I just don't like when they are only subjected to just kids movies. There are many movies in Disney, Pixar and animes from Japan which have some themes that adults can relate to. I wish that India can also progress with animated movies or series. Well i know that Hanuman series in Hotstar is getting recognition. But still We need to progress in bringing animated movies to theatres.
SRK is the biggest star not the best actor. While Ranbir, Vicky, Ranveer, Hrithik (and many more) are great actors from Bollywood. And also many talks about why bollywood movies can't pull of comedy like they used to. About that, nowadays the actors wanna act everything in a cool way, cz they are being concern about their image or how good will they look. Look at Hera Pheri for example. They acting in such carefree way. Which makes comedy so natural. I think this is what missing from comedy films nowadays. (Look at srk in recent time. How he flex his muscle in every frame)
Trust me, i love mrunal too, but sai pallavi is gonna hit it out of the park. She is just sooo much more deserving to be sita devi. But mrunal will shine too in anyother romcom..
Agreed with most of what you said except a few. Gheraiyaan and 12th Fail are not romcoms by any stretch of the imagination. They are both dramas. The idea of romcoms using the prince charming trope is as old as time, whether its the western or eastern fairy tales or the 1000s of mills & boon and harlequin books out there. Its the idea of catering to a largely female audience (although it might be a guilty pleasure for men too) and allowing them to escape to a dreamier, less complicated and wishful world. Romcoms are for the majority the female pov and it is so for that reason.
Wonderful discussion Jammy!!! Every point holds. It's so much fun to hear your unpopular opinions. I agree with all of that!!! Except the room coms part::: because we've had rom coms like Band baaja baraat, Jane tu ya Jane na , barely ki barfi which also were great.
it was an interesting take, hence I also left it for everyone to discuss. I also don't necessarily agree with it, its slightly reductive and is echoing more red pill sentiments that get flung around on ig reels
Unpopular opinion: cool background music, fast edits, slow mo shots, aesthetic sets have nothing to do with glorification. It used to enhance the cinematic effect, add dramatic intensity and to reflect the mood of the character. Indians learnt the word “glorification” and never stopped using it since 😂😂
Unpopular opinions: Jammy and a lot of PPL didn't actually like salaar and kgf , they knew they'd get abused by a large number of Peers if they if they said it out loud. both those movies were only long WhatsApp statuses. And also, those who were supporting animal as true love story would definitely not like it if their sisters would date a Rannvijay. And Sandeep Reddy talks about alpha male n stuff but the fool can't even take criticism like a man, let alone an alpha man. He's Insecure af. PPL hate nepo kids with a passion but would trade places with them in a heartbeat! I'll die on this hill.
yes i agree with your opinion on srk dialogue delivery, his vibrating face muscles in emotional or angry scenes, honestly this worked 20 years agoo when even hrx use to do this type of stylish acting like in kaho na pyar hai. but with new genration of actors coming in and the increase in no. of actors doing minimalistic acting like ranbir kapoor, vikrant, vicky kaushal, manoj bajpayee, rajkumar rao, etc. this old style of acting does not looks good at all and even now it feels like overacting for ex:- the scene i dunki where vicky kaushal dies, srk's expression was just looking weird . we want the srk who was in my name is khan, devdas ,swades and chak de india back

Are romcom characters desirable because they are rich? I don't think so. Ranveer's character in Band baaja baarat was not rich, he was even boyish and a bit annoying initially, but Anushka's character did fall for him eventually. Varun's character manages to woo two females in Main Tera Hero and he isn't rich. Shudh desi romance, Pyar ka punchnama, hassi toh phasi, Ajab prem ki ghazab kahani, Jane Tu Ya Jane Na, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya, Mujhse Shadi Karogi, Bareilly ki barfi, Bachna Ae Haseeno, etc are few movies to name where the male leads are just from a very normal background and yet manage to charm the female leads.
Unpopular opinion: People are always wanting to watch only men with green flags in movies, and can't bear if they have even one reg flag(shades of red too), because of which they can't enjoy movies having grey/bad characters.
Kuch Kuch Hota hai was the reason I started watching Bollywood movies and I can say for most people specially in my country ( Ethiopia) we still love it and watch it, every movie have it's own problem but says it's bad to the movie that make you who you are like Karen is saying is just being ungrateful.....anyway I love your contents
Point is that we keep saying that they don't make movies like YJHD anymore but the reality is that we don't watch movies like the way we watched YJHD. What Im tryna say that we have to be carefree while watching films and not look at the cringe part of it and this is why I think rocky aur rani hit it out of the park last year.
I believe that 12th fail was a very good movie, but I believe that tvf aspirant's did it with far more depth in the UPSC part where as 12th fail just touched the surface of this topic, but none the less it was a great movie
The upsc topic yes tvf touched better. But 12th fail touches many areas like poverty, family issues, friendship and support, along with upsc. Hence making it well rounded content. There is no comparison. 😊
My unpopular opinion: If Rohit Shetty's Zameen was made and released in 2017-18 with the same cast (Ajay and Abhishek) It would've been a blockbuster and Kabhi Haan Kabhi naa would still be a classic if made and released today
Animal was not a masterpiece. I thoroughly enjoyed it, but it was not brilliance. It was experimental with its cinematography, acting and music. Besides that, it was at max a good movie.
Thank you for the last point. We have lots of stories that can be beautifully executed in animation. It's also a great time to do it as well just like you pointed out. Anime is also at it's highest popularity.
Unpopular opinion: Akshay Kumar playing a grey or villainous character makes him give his best and most charming performances. No other mainstream actor who has played both protagonist and antagonist roles has made my skin crawl like he did. And to my delight, it was always the character, not Akshay Kumar that I felt I was seeing. Sangharsh, Ajnabi, Jaanwar are the films which showed his acting prowess to its finest.
Unpopular opinion. Kangana may go overboard sometimes when she gives her opinion, yet her gutsy nature is admirable. Actors like Kangana, vidya balan, and Vicky kausal are connected with the audience with their pure talent and being themselves and talking freely, unlike many of these nepo kids.
Unpopular opinion- deepika padukone don't experiment with her films. She dont have any movie in which she is a main protagonist. She always works in a movies in which their is already a big star. She don't show her potential and acting skills.
Middle class romcoms also exist-From M'wood, when Dileep was in peak form, Vettam (directed by Priyan and written by Ukri) and Mr Buttler were some middle class romcoms, including Kalyanaraman and Ishtam, Dhanush's films in that category are Yaaradi Nee Mohini and Thiruchitrambalam, Vijay Annan's Sachein and Kushi were the main examples. Recently, Gireesh AD's Premalu (director of Thanneer Mathan Dinangal, another school based romcom) also is a middle class romcom with Naslen's character arc reminding me of Allu Arjun's characterisation from "Happy".
Hrithik is not only a great dancer but also a great actor, his dance and good looks has overshadowed his acting skills in the eyes of masses.
his dance is also not good nowadays.....not going to work anymore now...

Thanks for adding the nuance
Truth be told you can't show open shirts and glamorous dances and love being the only issue in life if the characters aren't rich 😊. Would you imagine a poor middle class guys and girls life have only problem of love.nope. That is not possible . Also foreign locations lavish functions trips are all part of bwod romcoms or Hollywood. Poor people can't have that

Yjhd is still relevant

Unpopular opinion:
Films sell stories and the stories can be about anything under the sun.

I'm not Bengali, though. Just a lover of cinema.😅
Yes!!!
And Jammy should start reviewing them. Some thrillers are good nowadays. Watched one recently. With subs
srijit mukherjee’s work is extremely underwhelming
Sir the point which you highlighted by speaking about Ajay Devgan was on point. This is what I too feel and he's been outstanding ever since.

Audience were busy mongering hate but Vanga left so many clues and so many metaphors were there, for eg :
1) Converted muslim being originally our own but need to be killed if they cause harm to us from the lyrics of B PRAAK in “ Saari Duniya Jala Denge “
2) Hitler Reference while motivating/ provocating workers.

💯
Other than Ajay Devgan Anil kapoor has also experimented a lot through his career since banging .. respect for both

That was a totally unrelatable film for me. Coz naina didn't belong to that group from the very start. Period. End of the discussion.
@@happysoul_97 Exactly that was the point..I have been like Naina all my school life!! I did not want to enjoy my childhood cause I was busy just wanting to excel at academics and making my parents proud!
Naina Was different, she thought enough of this lifestyle just even for fewdays just leave everything and enjoy life and in that Trip she met a boy who actually knew how to enjoy life and saw the world through a Different lens and this is why she fell in love and a realistic part of that is midway through the film she realised that Bunny loved his dreams more than anything so she let him go cause she didn't want to be a Hurdle for him!! Now u can obviously find flaws in every film..Naina Transformed herself to come out of that Nerdy life and learn how to balance everything...later in life she befriends Aditi too and that is how she became a Part of that group!!!
Now 2nd half of the film is where we see the story through Bunny's perspective where he comes to realise what all important things he lost cause he only wanted to dream and travel world..

my hot take is that indian animation should try to look beyond myths and epics. i understand that you want to make a story at a grand scale and scope which animation allows to be stylized, which works excellently with the ramayana and mahabharata (and related topics, like say chotta bheem), but my god would i like to see something more modern, or even just NEW. the legend of prince ram applied so many anime stylings to the ramayana to great effect, and i wonder if someone would try to apply a more indian touch to other stories too!
absolutely agree about mrunal, sanya and wamiqa. I just saw jubilee and she was great! i guess it just feels like there isn't really a massive pool of top actresses - it's mostly just been, as you said, Deepika, Alia, and Katrina. Who i like, but god knows btown could use some fresh faces, many of whom have been proven down south or in OTT
i think the wealth thing is definitely a factor at least in some cases, but it's hard to say. obviously it's a non-factor in something like 12th fail, but outside something like gehraiyaan where we do see a wealth divide (and the implication of deepika's character resenting ananya's character for being wealthy), i think most people, even if they are influenced by wealth, it doesn't matter as much, typically because there isn't really a sense of disparity or desperation.
ajay devgn is certainly good, especially if you look at his long term film graph, but several of his misfires (bhuj most notably) have been REALLY bad, and overall he has been okay considering the last few years. my real hot take is that ajay should direct more - u me aur hum is a shockingly well-made film
i loathe people who act like depiction = promotion. it's the same type of people who argued that gehraiyaan glorified cheating (lmao). SLB makes everything at an operatic, melodramatic scale, especially since devdas
re: kangana - she's made her bed, frankly. re: karan - i personally think karan is just way too online and even if he doesn't talk about it on social media, he definitely seems to have taken a lot of the criticism (some reasonable, some less so) very much to heart
also lmao who thought hrithik is an average dancer?!
Even Kriti Sanon doesn't seem to be getting great opportunities as that of A listers.
regressive industry lol its the ,most woke infested industry in india.
You are so right about the long awaited revival of the Indian animation, I totally miss the films like Arjun the warrior prince!
Anybody still has any doubts of Hrithiks dancing skills, as they might have seen many South actors dancing unbelievably. Then just know that they got the choreographers who make them dance so effortlessly (and ofcourse their hardwork also)
A good combination Hrithik and choreographer will blow our mind without any doubts ✌🏻✌🏻
OMG the instant relief I felt when I heard you talk about SRK’s dialogue delivery. Whatever Batman syndrome he’s got going needs to go.
Unpopular Opinion:
Kangana Ranaut isn't as good of an actress as everyone hails her out to be.
Same with Alia
Has a hideous voice and dialogue delivery

I absolutely love sania's screen presence. I think she will do great without tried and tested bollywood romcoms
Ig ek saal mein 3 movies karega toh yeh haal hota hai , I hope his next movie is 1 movie per years or Max to max 2
A great actor has versatility...Hrithik is great in the range of roles he does...he cant do comedy which truly makes an actor "great"
Finally someone talked about Indian animation man !
Bang on.. agree to all points..
I just wish they would cast Mrunal Thakur as Sita in Ramayan.. she will be brilliant..
Trust me, i love mrunal too, but sai pallavi is gonna hit it out of the park. She is just sooo much more deserving to be sita devi. But mrunal will shine too in anyother romcom..
4:04 thats so true, i cringe a lot when he modifies his voice to sound a certain way i love his natural voice

Point is that we keep saying that they don't make movies like YJHD anymore but the reality is that we don't watch movies like the way we watched YJHD. No other mainstream actor who has played both protagonist and antagonist roles has made my skin crawl like he did. Kangana may go overboard sometimes when she gives her opinion, yet her gutsy nature is admirable. Actors like Kangana, vidya balan, and Vicky kausal are connected with the audience with their pure talent and being themselves and talking freely, unlike many of these nepo kids.
