I've been using Indyx for six months, and it's been a game-changer! It's helped me downsize my wardrobe-it shows me duplicates; it makes it easy to see what I don't wear; or if I can't even be bothered to photograph it, I don't love it enough to keep it. After adding my outfits to the calendar for a few months, it was really easy for me to see that I wear jeans almost every day, so it didn't make sense for me to have a bunch of trousers that are more for my fantasy self than my actual lifestyle. Downsizing those has freed up a lot of closet space! It also helps reduce my stress in getting dressed. Adding tags to my outfits make it so easy to decide what to wear. Last weekend, I searched for outfits that had the tags "Going Out," "Layers," and "Autumn." So rather than being stuck frozen in front of my closet and thinking I have nothing to wear, it showed me my outfits that meet all those criteria, and I just picked the one I was feeling for the occasion.
I love cataloguing my wardrobe items exactly for the same reasons. Learning more about cost per wear, most worn/least worn, and seeing all my items in one app. I've been using a different app for nearly 2 years now, logging my outfits every day and I'm a sucker for data. Turns out I use 98% of my clothes, have 63% second hand and 9% handmade items, that's pretty cool, didn't know that but am very happy about it! 🤩
I've been using this app and one way I went about organizing it for myself was instead of putting the brands in, I put in everything as "new", "thrifted", "gifted" or "handmade". I like being able to see what's what that way, and I'm not concerned about knowing which brand something is for the most part (I'll just go check the tag if need be)
I’m using it too. I’ve uploaded clothing as the season has come around as I keep my different clothing in storage throughout the seasons. I good tip is to google a picture of it and screenshot the item. Saves so much time. I’ve also screenshotted something similar and uploaded that. Like a black t-shirt and white t-shirt etc. lazy but efficient😜 great video, cheers!
When I started using a wardrobe app a few years ago, I trained myself to immediately get a copy of the photo of anything I purchase. I was even able to find photos for most of the items I already had on resale sites like Poshmark. And, as you mentioned, it doesn't always need to be the exact item.
Game changer to use Google photos! I do the same and it looks 100 times better. If you cannot find the item, using the picture search option to find something that looks like it
I catalogued my wardrobe during covid as I was talking on the phone to family and friends. Also, I kept track of the outfits I wore everyday and if the items were not catalogued, I would add them as I wore them. Also a white sheet on your bed is a good place to take pictures.
Ive been cataloging everything I wear for over three years. I learned that I wildly over estimate how often I wear something. Things I feel like I wear all the time, I in fact only wear once or twice per month. Makes you realise how biased we are to think we need new items more than we do.
I found a lot of pictures of my older clother on pinterest/different websites. Also whenever I add something new to my wardrobe I make sure to do a screenshot of the item. Helps a lot😊
I started using Indyx after seeing Christina’s video with Devon Rule, and I love it! I tried other apps and gave up, but Indyx works well, is fun, and so practical if you want your cost per wear and to know what you wear the most! And thanks for the tip about uploading the outfit to get a packing list, haven’t done that yet!
I really enjoy Open Wardrobe- I’ve been using them for 2 years now. I love tracking the number of wears per item and coming up with outfits on my phone when I’m waiting in lines.
I agree that having pictures of everything in your wardrobe is truly awesome. I’ve done it few years ago when I began my minimalism journey.Extremely helpful to stop the shopping urges also. I’m not using the app just simple photos folder. I did try some apps in past, but they never worked for me. Anyway, I can highly recommend digitising your wardrobe whatever the tools. ❤❤
This changed my life too. My one tip would be, try as much as possible to get the promo shot of the garment (ie search online for the original listing) even if it's second hand, as it helps you remember what drew you to it in the first place. If you can't find it, find something close that looks nice.
I’ve been using a wardrobe app for over a decade and can’t imagine being without it. In addition to all the great features mentioned in this video, I reference it whenever I’m shopping to see if I already have something similar (avoids duplicate purchases) or if the item I’m contemplating will coordinate with what I already own. I also upload images from the internet for inspiration and LOVE the packing list feature! (I also add notes like sunscreen, phone cables, medication etc. so it’s a comprehensive packing list). When I first uploaded images it served as a good reality check/purge for my wardrobe (I.e.: if I didn’t like something enough to take a photo and upload it, it went to the donate pile). If I can’t find an image of the item on line I tend to hang garments for photos bc I prefer the look (it’s a personal preference). I’ve got *everything* in my app including lingerie, jewelry . . . Anything I wear). So, yes, can’t rave enough about wardrobe apps. GAME CHANGER!!
Just started using a wardrobe app. As a constant thrifter this has been life changing. I now see I have 5 blue shirts and do not need another one !! . Rather than online browsing I create new outfits with things I don’t wear . Love it!! Thanks for the video
This was useful as I’m in the process of cataloging my closet. It’s super time consuming but since I have the time I’m just doing it in chunks. Thanks for the tips on making the clothes look better… this is one of the things I’m not loving (the flat lay process). I hope this will help me to use my clothes a lot more, and especially for packing for winter getaways when my summer clothes are packed away in storage.
About 7 years ago, I created an Excel spreadsheet of all my clothing with categories like season, months I might wear them in, "in need of dry cleaning," "in need of alterations," "appropriate for work," etc. I admit I don't consult it much anymore, but I am open to other options!
I’ve catalogued my wardrobe & find it particularly useful when contemplating a purchase, 2nd hand or new. I can check my catalogue to make sure that I’m not doubling up on an item, and see what else I can style it with in my existing wardrobe. If I realise I’ve already got 3 of those tucked away somewhere, or that it doesn’t coordinate well with anything else then it’s a hard no.
I just Downloaded indyx about a month ago. I really like it, and the fact that if you just want to know what you have and make outfits yourself it is totally free. And i am also sooo bad with tech and i did it all by my own, if i could do it anyone can😂😂, because i am really bad at tech.❤
Congrats on getting digital! I have Smart Closet and I've been on the app about 3 years now. I have over 700 items (including sportswear, accessories, bags and undergarments) and I've been really focused on the data. What's getting worn, how often, paired with what, etc. It's been really great for identifying what colors and silhouettes I favor. Also breaking up my large wardrobe into seasons. I absolutely love putting together travel capsules in the app! Sometimes I'll do several iterations, tweaking my selections as a trip gets closer.
I've started using Indyx when Christina first mentioned it on her channel. The background removal is the best!! I've been using the app to build 7x7 capsules every week throughout the months of March and April, close to your recommendation to catalog capsules instead of all pieces by type. But then the summer came with the big seasonal wardrobe switch, and I was too lazy to catalog all the seasonal pieces (also it was too hot to get dressed sometimes 😂) I've been meaning to get back to my digital wardrobe and your video came in a perfect time for it! 🎉 And guess what - now that I've opened the app again, I see that I already have a collection called 'Fall 2024', probably I missed creating digital outfits so much at some point that I started in advance 😂 I totally forgot about it. I think I've been off for a while mostly because I haven't been on any trips lately. The packing list is indeed an incredible feature and I'd have used it if I went anywhere. The calendar comes in very handy for planning outfits for each part of the trip and every activity! I have trouble documenting shoes and accessories though, because most outfits allow variations. To document all the ideas you either create too many very similar outfits or I sometimes just put 2-3 shoe-bag options on the same layout (but then it's not very practical for the calendar and the calculations of cost per wear). I am also thinking of creating a special 'Collection' for belts/scarves and jewellery and make it a habit to go check it out every time I create an outfit, otherwise I tend to forget about these accessories at all 😞
I feel inspired and daunted at the same time by this but I really want to do it! Chunking the way you suggested sounds doable and will provide some instant gratification!
I also use a different App for my purchasing decision: what fits with the new piece? Do I need it? I have a wishlist-wardrobe where I add pieces I am longing for by doing screenshots. And of course I use it for packing lists for traveling. Love it ❤
This is such impeccable timing because this is exactly what I was thinking about for the last few days to be able to see what is there in my closet. Thank you, Alyssa. You have not just changed my perspective of shopping my own closet, but also are amazing with your styles
It wasn’t untill Anna of TheAnnaEdit made a video of her stats from this past season that I really signed up. I decided that I will start by cataloging the items that are freshly washed. I also have many summer shoes out at the moment. I even bought some in the sales and decided that one pair of sandals I had wasn’t for me. I will however add to a note on my iPhone that I need to stay away from sandals with some kind of elastic on top of my foot. That way I will try to slowly catalog my clothes also making sure that new purchases are added as soon as I get home.
I just used this app to catalogue all my clothes! It’s so great .It has helped me put together so many new combinations. Also I just decide what top, bottom or even accessory I want to wear then it shows me what outfits I have made.. so it saves me time. It really helped me cull my closet too.❤❤❤❤So far I have 81 outfits 😀Sometimes when I am waiting I play with the app to kill time.
Just great. Good idea. Thanks to your former video I am finally successfull shopping my closet ans curating my clothes...I habe still too mich clothes in order to use your newest Digital method but I love your Enthusiasmus it is always refreshing😊
I’ve been doing this for about 10 years now and it’s definitely been worth the effort for me. I love the stats especially. What surprised me is how little I actually repeat the exact same outfit, even though I don’t have many clothes.
I downloaded the app because I want to see everything I have and decide better what to keep and purge and make better outfits. I’m planning on going by categories like skirts, sweaters, jeans, dresses, etc. I think this will help me see what I have and what I really love and want to keep. I’m more of a maximalist than a minimalist.
lol I’m so much smaller than my friends, I’m 5’2” and they’re all 5’6”-5’10”, so sharing clothes is not an option 😂 This seems like it could be really useful but a bit like a chore. I like your idea of adding pieces in smaller chunks- like multiple capsule wardrobes.
Trying Indyx, have been using an app to catalogue clothes for years, love the Clueless aspect I still remember wishing I could recreate the whole Clueless wardrobe when I watched the film. There are some great features I love including the packing list and stats.
I guess this might be easy for a minimalist, but I have hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of items of clothing. Also, several hundred pairs of shoes and handbags. This would take too long. I have used a variation on the Marie Kondo method to keep organized. Works well for me.
Thé more clothes you have, the less you can remember all your items so it’ll probably be most helpful. I have around a hundred items and it took me several months so you don’t need to do it all at once.
Thank you for this video. It might get me motivated to do it. I have an app on my phone, but I have never done it. I have two closets one in the mountains and one in the desert. They’re both different.😊
I profoundly see the value. But because of my particular brand of neurodiversity and just my life, I would do this over a year if I would do it at all. And I am tempted.
This is really inspiring! I have a small closet and seeing what I have is a big challenge. Just curious when you say you have about 140 pieces in your closet what items are you including? Does this include shoes, coats, bags, loungewear?
@@AlyssaBeltempoThank you, Alyssa! I’ve been cataloguing like crazy since your video came out. Sooo much fun🥰 I love the idea of using the app to create new looks without having to open my closet or get off the couch!
Alyssa hi, thank you for interesting videos. Please, do a vide for looks and outfits for official receptions. Also what to wear if we changed our haircut from straight, long to short, curly and with volume :) Greetings from far-away Tbilisi, Georgia
I recently started using Open Wardrobe, but I am intrigued by the Indyx system and the chance to use Alyssa as a stylist. Does anyone know the difference or pros/cons between the two systems?
Do you think Indyx would work for me? I am a "snow-bird" and have two closets to maintain. MOST clothes work well in BOTH climates, but the thought of schlepping clothes back and forth is time consuming, frustrating and simply exhausting! Add some major travel time to the mix and you can see where I have to minimize, simplify, and figure out a plan that will work for me...... Might give Indyx a try and see if it can help. Any suggestions from this awesome group would be inspiring. SO grateful for all the ideas and innovations Alyssa presents in her amazingly delightful videos. Have a fabulous day everyone!
Is there a place where you can put in how much the garment weighs? I follow Sarah Murdock who is a travel guide who manages to keep her packing weight down to 15-18 pounds. She does this by weighing her clothing items to help her determine which garments to take. I think it would be helpful as a datapoint where you can add up the weight of the garments you want to take on your trip. This will help to decide whether you want to take the ponte knit pants (heavier) or the silk trousers (lighter) on your trip. I’ve tried various wardrobe apps before, but found them overwhelming in removing backgrounds. Since the photos app on the phone now makes it easier to just grab the item from the photo, I’m ready to try a wardrobe apps again.
I need advice on photographing my clothing with very little natural light with out going out and buying a soft box or something. Is there a hack out there that I can use to maximize a flash?
I’m a liiiiittle bummed cause I did all of this cataloging in OpenWardrobe at Alyssa’s recommendation. And particularly because of the personal styling options that were available over there…now seems everyone including Alyssa is moving over to Indyx and I just can’t get myself to want to roll it over. I wish there was an auto import option
The creators have promised that will remain free. Some things like selfies and cost per wear are paid but you get one month free. There are other apps like Whering too.
Does anyone here know if it is possible on any wardrobe app to track two different outfits a day? Let's say I work in home office so it's quite casual, but then I go to a social occasion at night. Running on android preferably.
It might depend on the piece. I took photos of stuff hanging on hangers. The app I use lets me replace the photo later, so I can update it anytime. I don't think Indyx let's you do that, unfortunately. But digital closets are generally amazing.
I use a different app and they have suggested taking photos while you’re wearing the clothes. It means you can basically dress yourself like a paper doll!
I hate that it’s only possible to shift the positions of the items uploaded, if you pay to use the app. I swear, I get ocd, if all blazers and trousers are not sat together in categories. I missed a blazer, when I uploaded some of my items. And now it’s not uploaded together with the rest of the blazer. It annoys me like crazy. And because of that, it gets insanely time consuming to upload.
I don’t use this particular app but I use a different one and it saves time and makes it easier to declutter, because my app tells me most- and least-worn. If I haven’t worn something in 300 days, it needs to go. The other thing I use it for is shopping, as it prevents me from buying yet another black sweater; I have enough of those, and I can see I’m not even wearing the ones I own so why buy another? Lastly, I like using my inspiration photos to build outfit ideas, so I don’t have to think to get dressed in a hurry 🤷🏽♀️
I've just realised this is the adult and modern version of playing with paper dolls, but we are the dolls. Maybe that's why it's so fun.
I've been using Indyx for six months, and it's been a game-changer! It's helped me downsize my wardrobe-it shows me duplicates; it makes it easy to see what I don't wear; or if I can't even be bothered to photograph it, I don't love it enough to keep it.

@@AlyssaBeltempoThank you, Alyssa! I’ve been cataloguing like crazy since your video came out. Sooo much fun🥰 I love the idea of using the app to create new looks without having to open my closet or get off the couch!
Great video!😍
Alyssa hi, thank you for interesting videos. Please, do a vide for looks and outfits for official receptions. Also what to wear if we changed our haircut from straight, long to short, curly and with volume :) Greetings from far-away Tbilisi, Georgia
Data, data, data! Don’t make decisions without excellent data! 😊
I recently started using Open Wardrobe, but I am intrigued by the Indyx system and the chance to use Alyssa as a stylist. Does anyone know the difference or pros/cons between the two systems?
I also wondered this since Alyssa has used OpenWardrobe in the past. I looked at Indyx and it didn't even have a fraction of the features of OW.
@@huehnerfressenponies Thank you!!
Signed up because of your video and I am loving it, but why don’t i you offer services for “the feed” styling option?
Looks like a really valuable tool. You are in danger of becoming a digital geek. Well done
The taking selfie feature is not free and that’s something I wish they made free on the app.
Try Whering. Not as pretty an interface but seems to have more functionality in the free version.
Apollo 🐈😻
What's the handheld clothes steamer you use?
I need advice on photographing my clothing with very little natural light with out going out and buying a soft box or something. Is there a hack out there that I can use to maximize a flash?
I’m a liiiiittle bummed cause I did all of this cataloging in OpenWardrobe at Alyssa’s recommendation. And particularly because of the personal styling options that were available over there…now seems everyone including Alyssa is moving over to Indyx and I just can’t get myself to want to roll it over. I wish there was an auto import option
Same here. All my clothes are on open wardrobe but I never use it 😢
Is it enough to have the free version to use the catalog and create collages or will i need to pay at some point?
The creators have promised that will remain free. Some things like selfies and cost per wear are paid but you get one month free. There are other apps like Whering too.
Does anyone here know if it is possible on any wardrobe app to track two different outfits a day? Let's say I work in home office so it's quite casual, but then I go to a social occasion at night.
Running on android preferably.
I have a mannequin I bought to sell my clothes on Poshmark. Would that be better to photo clothes or is laying flat better?
I like the flat lay better for the outfit pics.
@@alamedadanceparty yes you can update them! Did it today! I’d awesome.
@@candacepearson8603 Oh nice! Maybe when I tried Indyx before that feature didn't exist yet. It's so helpful.
❤
I don't get it... this is a full time job, just to get dressed! Not for me
I don’t use this particular app but I use a different one and it saves time and makes it easier to declutter, because my app tells me most- and least-worn.

A few weeks ago I completed this task and have now created over 280 outfits. It was time consuming and hurt my back a little but so worth it.
