The main purpose of a SWAT Medic's vest and bag is to stop the bleed, but also to identify and solve any other medical emergencies. Former SWAT (and volunteer fire-rescue here) ... good call removing the armor extensions. They were very cumbersome (added weight) and restrictive for movement. I pulled mine off as well.

Have you considered a battle belt? If can be beneficial in HABC/(MARC)H. For example I carry 3 pouches
Connected tqs
A pouch ( npa, opa, cric)
B pouch ( NCD, chest seal)
C pouch (IV, io, packing stuff)
And a dump pouch
