- The Germantown Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team is composed of 15 specially-selected officers. The team is responsible for handling high risk situations in which the training and/or equipment falls outside the scope of a regular police officer.

First on the scene? SWAT is usually pretty late to the scene. Unless they're serving a warrant, SWAT is usually late to the party.

How late are we talking here when they’re called ONLY after they’ve been told the police would need additional personnel with specific type of training that only SWAT offers.
Did you expect them to go after grocery store thieves BEFORE the police do, or do conduct traffic stop and chase them if they take off; would that have been a more appropriate dispatching priority??!!?
@@see-rious-ley I know people hate to be corrected, so I apologize for having to correct you. SWAT aren't the only ones capable of addressing those calls. A lot of cops are veterans and do carry long guns in their vehicles. Some regular patrol guys are way better trained and experienced than SWAT. In some cases. With my department, that's definitely the case.
To answer your question, late is when SWAT arrives to control the scene rather than address the threat.

You’re not telling me anything I didn’t already know. I’ve worked with veterans and I know what they usually end up taking as a job after they’re done with their service.
It’s not even about what other units are capable of; they’re still NOT SWAT.
If they’re not SWAT they don’t do what the SWAT does. Is this a hard concept?!?! If they’re not needed then they would have been disbanded. I was making a point that they’re not the first called upon simple infractions that fall under normal policing protocol; they’re the FIRST to be on the scene when their expertise is needed. Other skilled police forces are surely better than none, but that’s not the point of when the SWAT is needed.
The law enforcement personnel are much appreciated regardless of their expertise; I was merely pointing out when each might be called upon and it’s usually in a certain order.

A lot of stupid comments by people who claim to be military members. If you have truly been in the military then you know it has it's fair share of problems and we have no room to drag law enforcement through the mud. Mostly, military day to day operations take place on a secured compound with very limited access from the media and public. Law enforcement for the most part is visible to the public and they walk around with a camera on their chest recording their tour of duty. If the media ever got access like that on a military compound, many civilians would be in disbelief and lose respect. I get upset with law enforcement all the time but let's be honest with ourselves please.

I’m guessing this swat team has one of those, if you don’t use it you lose it budgets? Not sure if they are using all that gear as intimidation tactic. Seems unlikely they would need all that to do a direct action mission. Which is what seat is about for the most part.

Based on NTOA, I was a "SWAT Operator" 20 years ago. Just look at our cool gear, that makes us good.

@@angryjarhead less than 10 percent of us saw any combat in the service. Sure, we do a bunch of drills that are good training but over 90% of us never use it. Everyday a video is posted of a trooper, deputy, officer or agent getting into a fist fight or gun fight. On top of that, they don't get to walk around on base all day doing drills and PT. Most get thrown on the streets and stay there until the leave. Considering that the current political climate is not conducive to their welfare, I respect anyone willing to sign up for law enforcement.

I was Involved in a Shooting (Victim), in 2011, Neenah Wisconsin.
Two different SWAT Units showed up. They were Unprepared & Un Trained.
I was Shot by The Shooter In Question. SWAT wouldn’t go in a Clear a Shop Building BECAUSE…There Battery’s in the Thermal Unit where dead!😂😂😎😂
I went in the Shop & Cleared it with a .38 Pistol.
I was Up Against a Nut Job with a .556.
SWAT STAYED OUTSIDE UNTIL I CAME OUT AND TOLD THEM THE BUILDING WAS CLEAR. 😂
Then 3 SWAT went in & came out yelling CLEAR!😂😂
No Kidding, I had just Cleared It.
SWAT Commander, wanted to Argue with me that I had been Shot. Told me I would not be able to get back Up after being Shot with a .556.

Well you should post some videos of your training. I see you got zero videos. Your training has been so exiting, so hard core, so bad ass, you never thought to document it and post it.
I’m sure you are rappelling down skyscrapers with an MP5, practicing room clearing by yourself through your kitchen to the fridge as you grab a bud light and a slice of chocolate cake, and then tactically turning away from the fridge while yelling out “MOVING” only to answer yourself with “MOVE” as you move with a quickness back to the couch to catch the end of the latest episode of 90 Day Fiancé.
Swat is mainly a joke. Even the cities with money, they are better than beat cops, but that isn’t saying much. You need to do the practice a few days a week and definitely more on your own time.
