Awesome advice. I will always be thankful of Ron H. and Dave H. both great medics. Dave H. could sweet talk any psych patient into going to get some help. Ron was wise to the realities! They had a Come To Jesus Meeting with towards the end of the program. I learned a lot in medic school. But, I learned a lot on the street. I loved know it all's! I learned in medic school that you earn your opportunities. In one 24 hr ride along clinical I had 3 intubations and 3 IV starts on 6 different cardiac arrest patients. Be humble that we all are human and never be afraid to ask for help. Be wise to your situational awareness. Remember that there is no "I" in TEAM. And, yes just like RN's eat their young, the same can be said of EMS providers. We all started somewhere. But, we have to be life long students. Take time to share.

Until EMS is willing to have a stronger lobby, we will always be stepped on. Police & Fire have strong lobbies and unions and that's why their jobs are so cushy. Things have to change because this field is too stressful for the compensation providers receive from sea to shining sea.
Agreed, maybe with this channel and us traveling across the country we could start changes. As the channel grows the more influence each companies will have that can effect the idea of change
I just finished internship and my hardest thing would be developing a smooth treatment plan for my critical Pts. I know what to do but it’s getting my treatment done quickly while trying to find time to obtain a accurate history , meds, and allergies all while this Pt is declining on me at the same time .

Yeah I’ve been a single role medic for 4 months now , my advise from my experiences so far is to be confident in every single decision you make even if you don’t think it’s right . Always keep your head up on scene and make sure your presence known . What I’ve learned to do is make a glance at my Pt and determine big sick or little sick , and then go straight to getting report. I don’t really touch the monitor on scene and I let my EMT do it so I don’t get tunnel vision. Whenever you get stuck, listen to lung sounds and/or go back to your ABC’s and just treat what you see. BE CONFIDENT, you made it this far right.
@@HeroesNextDoor You advice was spot on. My advice to all providers and anyone who's job requires their full physical well being is to get a plan B early. Get a degree or skillset that can be done w/out alot of physical effort. You will hurt your back and extremities in this job. Be prepared when you can just no longer do it. People aren't getting lighter and even with the lifts into the rig we still gotta get them to the rig in the first place!

Is it normal to feel a little bit scared but excited as a brand new medic about to work on his first job as a paramedic. How did you feel when you first started?
Yeah pick a mentor, and talk about every call immediately after with the entire crew so that you all learn as a team. The better you get along and understand each other the less scary it becomes.
