    Carlsbad California here! Migrated from Utah and loving the beach and being able to just randomly show up at the beach and jam with other guitar players, harmonica players, drummers! Thanks Tony for being the one consistent connection to my acoustic guitar love! You need to do a remote show from Swami's at the beach --

    Thanks for the spotlight on Grit Laskin. I was fortunate enough to know Grit while he was apprenticed to Jean Larrivee Sr. and when he opened up his first shop in Toronto, and just after he did, I bought what now must be among the oldest Laskin guitars in captivity. Even then, he produced just staggeringly wonderful guitars and its now 40+ years old cedar top makes it the joy of my life and centrepiece of my Guitarsenal. Aside from being a remarkable luthier, Grit is simply one of the finest human beings it has ever been my pleasure to meet. He treats everyone he meets with respect, always pulls out the positive from any conversation, and is infinitely generous with his time, his attention, and his wealth of knowledge about instruments and traditional music. Much like Tony P, I have to say. Canada has seen fit to appoint him to the Order of Canada (much like a Canadian knighthood), and he enhances the reputation of the honour by being one of the chosen. He's not boastful or loud, and he's a pretty small guy too, so if you'e lucky enough to be somewhere he is, seek him out and just share a few minutes. It will be something you will never forget.

    Ever since I have found your show, I have been binging on the past shows. Sadly, I am near the end. I have enjoyed watching the evolution of this show. The evolution of Tony's growing tattoo collection, various hairstyles of Noah, the increased interaction with Levi and Noah, the dart challenge which seems to have been faded out but I got a kick out of, the addition of Matt, the increase of subscribers, and the slight increase in length of show time which is great. Can't get enough! This has fired me up to keep practicing! I have told all of my friends who play about this show and can't wait to see how the Acoustic Life will continue to evolve. Tony, Noah, and Levi . . . . . cheers!

    Absolutely love my Taylor 812ce 12 fret. With the cutaway I never miss the added reach of the 14 fret and the fullness of the 12 fret design is amazing due to the placement of the bridge.

    Great feature on 12-fret vs 14-fret. Last year, my wife picked up a guitar in a nearby store and handed it to me like "here, play this one cause I like it". I played and was like "what is this?". It was a Taylor 812ce 12-Fret....I fell in love on the spot. My next acoustic will be concert body 12-fret for sure!

    #smallwin I didn't buy a guitar today. I have 10 and an agreement in writing with my wife that 10 is the max. For about 7 years after I retired, I bought a new acoustic guitar every 5-6 months. 3 periods now and no new guitar. Factors: 1) limited Taylor inventory at my favorite store, 2) my current Guitarsenal is just too nice. Can't decide which one to give up.

    #smallwin I was excited to see you finally have featured the G7 Guitar Project on Acoustic Tuesday. (George Gray was the luthier you missed when you rattled them off.) What's a bit ironic is that the exhibit just closed last Sunday, March 18. TAC members might recall that I posted two in-depth trip reports in the forum after my visits to the McMichael Canadian Art Collection "Acoustic Conversations" programs in July (featuring Tony McManus playing Linda Manzer's Lawren Harris harp guitar) and in October (featuring Kevin Breit playing Tony Duggan-Smith's AY Jackson harp-guitar). Through those two visits, I was able to meet and chat with five of the seven luthiers (all except de Jonge and Larivee) and every one of them was incredibly gracious and approachable. Not only are these luthiers amazing artists - they are great people. Through my posts, I encouraged others to visit the McMichael and see the exhibit for themselves. I hope some of you took advantage of that before the exhibit closed last Sunday. If you missed it, I am happy to say I exchanged emails with Linda Manzer just yesterday (just before AT aired, in fact!) and learned there is some talk of the exhibit traveling, possibly to England.

    Matt, guys; Thanks for the 12 fret/14 fret information. I have totally gone for 12 frets over the last year or so. I now have a Preston Thompson (current fav) Parlor 2 all mahogany, Waterloo WL-12 and Collings DS2H (a little larger than I like). My feeling about the location of the bridge in the lower bout is why I feel these sound so so good! Hey thanks for everything love my tuesdays.

    Small win I went to my first blue grass festival. Had an absolute blast. Jamed until wee hrs with different musicians from different bands. My highlight was we where jamming with one of the headliners, it was my rotation. I asked the the fiddle player if he new Amarillo by morning, he nodded and I started to play., half way in the first Verse, Pete shooted out stop, jimmy give me that fiddle. We re played the song with full entry and all the fills , runs and breaks it was asome .

    Another great show guys! I am excited to say (as I revisit my comment from last week) that my "possible #SmallWin" is now a real #SmallWin! I bought a new guitar over the weekend. I am waiting anxiously for it to arrive. I found a music store that had a brand new Eastman AC-OM2, all solid Sapele guitar, that was built back in 2016. He was selling it as a "Mint Used Guitar" at a decent discount because of its age. Eastman guitars are all handmade in Beijing, China. This company came highly recommended by another guitar geek friend of mine, which made the decision even easier. SO EXCITED!

    I’m late to this party, but have to say something about the strap jack that folks should be aware of. When plugged into the jack it turns on the electric pickup system and thus it activates the battery and will run it down if the jack is left plugged in for long periods of time.

  • @singlereed
    @singlereed 6 років тому

    It’s worth adding that there are other approaches to 12 vs 14 fret. Some 12 frets use the same body as for 14 with the bridge shoved back. Others have the bridge in the same place relative to the bottom but the body is longer, extending up the fingerboard as it were. Often a 12 fret neck has a shorter scale too. So there are other possibilities apart from the points you made about the two guitars you compared.

    #smallwin - I had the chance to go to Aruba last month on business but was afraid to travel with one of my guitars, having never traveled on an airplane with a guitar before. While I was there I found what turned out to be the island’s only music store, Cliffix Musical Instruments. I spoke with the owner about renting a guitar for the week. They didn’t rent guitars, but he did point me to a pawn shop. I was able to secure an inexpensive but solid Fender acoustic. I had the small win of playing guitar on the beach for the awesome sunsets! Also checked a bucket list item off!

    One question: when is the next scotch/burbon darts challenge?
    Oh and #SmallWin saw Tommy Emmanuel live in Bergen, Norway last night and discovered an awesome acoustic guitarist I had not heard of before. Anthony Snape. Really recommend checking out his music. Was an awesome concert, both Tommy and Anthony performed and really got the audience to the Edge of their seats. Got to talk with Anthony during intermission, really loves the guitar and said «Music is all about the joy of it, keep it up you’ll only Get better and have more fun»
    Was really cool to hear an artist love music and share that love with the audience in conversation.

    Those strap jacks work great, (I have one in clear, and one in black) BUT like Brian S noted, they turn on the pickup system in some Taylor guitars, such as my GS Mini, so I don't use a strap jack with it, but works great on other guitars.

    • @jammybilly
      @jammybilly 6 років тому

      I agree. You go to the trouble of making a video to answer a question. The answer involves the sound differences of the two guitars. You have the guitars at your side, and even hold both, but you don't play them. I appreciate that the recording of the true sound of the guitars may not be achievable with his recording equipment, if he is just making a quick video. And of course we will all listen to it on different devices so the sound quality may be further reduced, BUT we are guitar geeks and it's a guitar geek programme. We're not really expecting the sound that we here to be exactly what comes out of the guitar and most of us would just like to hear Matt play for 30 seconds on each guitar. Just because we like hearing people play guitar! Honest! Could we make it happen in future video's? Could we? Could we?

      Ken Rich it’s funny how women can collect shoes, purses, etc but they don’t want a well crafted musical instrument. If the guy is paying the bills, just saying. I love my guitars .
