- Hey Good People,
I had another Dodge Charger in the shop this week. The vehicle overheated while the customer was driving. She continued to drive it, but didn't run it all the way to the "H" on the temperature gauge. Even though it didn't run all the way to the "H" it was enough to cause consequential damage to the engine.
In this video I go through my diagnostic process to see if the head gasket are blown and see what the damage is.

This is crazy I had a 2008 Chrysler 300c hemi. Bought it in 89k on the dash in 2011, sold last year with 250k on it. No motor issues or transmission. I just simply change the oil and add MMO. Did basic maintenance. I've always let my hemi warm up for about 5-7 mins every morning or after a long sitting. To avoid motor damage.
Awesome, good maintenance habits will take the car a long ways. I always tell people some cars you just have to stay on top of them more than others

Chrysler never seems to disappoint. I was working on an 07 jeep commander. The cam was destroyed by the lifters. Smh
I overheated my hemi engine a few times but never let it get on H I would always stop and wait 10 min then continue home... FYI the only times it happened when i was on my home and luckily not far from it.One time it actually hit H and i immediately stopped put antifreeze and let it sit for 10 min fixed the problem and its still running strong so far,guess i got lucky.
Sup bro my question is will misfires cause a hemi to run hot because I put mines on the code reader and it told me I have some misfires and I’ve noticed that it runs a lil hot when I drive it a lil hard
I know a guy at Chrysler told me that don't even fool with head gaskets on them they just replaced the whole engine!!!

My 2019 Hemi coolant hose came off and car overheated. Lights came on and I shut the car off immediately but now I get the same knocking sound for 1 sec as the car cranks only. It only happens when I’m starting the car for 1 sec then starts and also isles fine. Can bad water pump make that knocking sound? My heat didn’t work either and took it back to dealer
Heads are aluminum block is steel.. aluminum shrinks in overheating and eventually will blow the gasket… why they are so touchy to overheating….. keep driving while hot ur gonna drop a valve seal.. keep driving after that its ur cam.. keep driving after that one of those 8 cylinders will go thru bottom of the block and be on the road somewhere lol and take those engine covers off u will drop 7-10 degrees yes ur injectors will be louder but u will run cooler after market intake that isnt plastic fixes the loud injectors

Question, my Dodge Charger, 2006 Hemi, I changed the water pump, the thermostat and the reservoir bottle and my car temperature is right now, I get too old 203 and my oils running at like 214

I got a 2006 charger 5.7 and it’s boiling the water from the reservoir and it seems that the cap is no longer working is not showing overheating on the dashboard or make noises but i haven’t drive it since, do you think by changing the cap will fix the problem !?
Yes, radiator cap could definitely solve the problem. A lot of people overlook that. Start there, if that doesn’t work, look at the thermostat.

I just financed a RT not even 30 days ago as is from a dealership 🤦🏽♂️ the water pump burst shop called to say that was fixed now come pay oh but your engine is no good 😑 I was told my car overheated after the pump was replaced and when they checked for coolant leaks without turning the car on found none so that told them the engine was gone 🫠 I have still been driving the car for about 2weeks I brought peaks antifreeze but it hasn’t significantly dropped the only thing I can say now is it’s like my car needs something changed like oil change (got it at 101K sticker says change at 107K) or ignition coils something soon but I’m still running strong every start, no hemi tick just small automatic shifting issues while driving and when I punch it? There’s a very big delay still there’s no smoke and basically my gauge cluster has never indicted it was about to overheat even when the water pump burst and I was told by a mechanic he has seen that happen multiple times in cars and the car was in fact overheating

They should have did a combustion test BEFORE the repair to check for a blown head gasket to save you time and money. Now you got it around the mileage where it’s time to change everything unfortunately. Most maintenance starts becoming due around 60k to 150k miles. I suggest you check for a blown head gasket. That could be the case and will affect driveability.

It threw a rod mine did the same so I junked the car. The rod went through the block of the engine 😒

I don't know anything about mechanics. My son has a Dodge charger RT 2013 bought it with 141,000 miles . At 153,000 it started sounding ruff. We spent $700 for "mechanic" to change two fuel injectors and 16 spark plugs which resulted in no improvement. Nice guaranted work standard additional charge of $90 for tow to Gaddis car dealership.
$150 in more diagnosis of a leaking water pump at $1000 + cost which resulted in having to get a loan add the interest almost $2grand
We think we're getting call to pick up our $11 grand financed less than year ago+ $2g loan
With the water pump fixed, the engine burning coolant which has cracked head gasket, alternator shorted out the estimated cost $12 grand .... We've got an extended warranty but from what I'm gathering due to the failed water pump, overheating though it's been solely towed upon fuel injector replacements ...
What is the best option at this point?
How is a BLOWED motor not recognized before the leaking water pump? By 2 mechanics!

Wow sounds to me someone skip some diagnostic steps and you should be compensated for your inconvenience
over heating is the worst thing possible in a car...i always keep an eye on my guages
I have 07 grand Cherokee, i took it to get a full inspection and they said it only needed minor parts. 15 minutes after leaving it runs hot and shuts off every since that day I’ve been having multiple issues with it i redid the whole cooling system and now it’s misfiring I’m wondering if my vehicle has the same problem as this charger and Ram

@@AlexTheCarDoctor no not anymore, my needle normally sits below half at the quarter mark sometimes it’ll go to half but then go back down
@@AlexTheCarDoctor it does have a tick that started about 6 months ago i then got it looked it and was told it was a broken manifold bolt, had a second look at it and they were saying it’s my valves spring

Where’s the radiator cap located???
With a used engine your also taking a risk of that engine being in bad shape or have been overheated with a tear down and rebuild your getting what you want I could be wrong but that’s how I see it 🤷🏻

My car is overheating I replaced everything that has to do with the cooling but it's still overheating did a head gasket test and it don't seem to be that at this point idk what to do

Hey i have 2014 Charger its over heating not sure where the leak is should i do i block test or burp the system nd make sure i have no air in system
I have a 06 charger 5.7 daytona I filled up the gas tank and I noticed I have a low Idle about 700 to 600 then the car jump then cut off. No light comes on. The engine temperature was at about half. It did it 3 x I want to flush the Coolant and put some fresh in it. Do you have any other suggestions. I just got the car it has 88,000 miles on it.
Not at the moment no suggestions maybe bad gas since the car started doing that after you filled it up? Or maybe a bad purge valve but that will throw a check engine light.
Hello I've been watching you for a while and it's been helping with my dodge charger. My charger has been acting crazy. It overheated and started not starting so I changed the starter as well as the oil filter cooler and the knock sensors and the radiator and before I changed the starter it would turn over but not start now that I changed the starter it just tu Ms th lights on battery is good I changed the starter relay and still nothing I'm so confused need help
Hey there sorry to hear that you are having all this problems.You May have Defective starter you can test it yourself with a relay bypass kit I will send you the link amzn.to/3ou16Wq. We need to verify the starter is working before we proceed to looking at other stuff keep me posted on everything

My silverado overheated Its running rough almost sounds like it's gong to die any second barely going when I hit the gas There's no smoke or no water in engine but I'm scared to find out what's wrong with it

My situation is weird I have a 06 charger Daytona and I noticed when I got close to home I started to smell coolant and it started to run a little funny and when I got to the driveway before I could even put the car in park….it shuts off on me and started smoking. Now I was watching my temp gauge and it never got above the halfway mark and the check engine light never came on so I’m trying to figure out why did it shut itself off without overheating?
Chrysler vehicles will overheat without actually displaying on the gauge, I’ve blown head gasket on one of my for sale vehicles this Way.my suggestion is to perform a block test to make sure there’s no head gasket damage before replacing anything

This just happened to me. I was on my way home and saw the gauge going up to H and then I stopped and saw smoke 😢 just had the car towed but I notice when I was driving and had the a/c on it was blowing hot air. Now it cooled down but idk where to start with this car. 🥴🫤
If so I have a 2008 dodge charger 2.7l engine and I've replaced the water pump,the radiator, the radiator fans, the thermostat, the reservoir, the sensor on the bleeder and the bleeder, the cap and also had it checked for a block test,but it still continues to run hot?

It depends on how hot you got it but if you fixed your problem and all is good now then you are good

ALEX , I have a 2012 dodge charger SXT overheating, I replaced heater cooler ,heater holes ,radiator ,thermostat and still overheating any ideas why
First make sure there isn’t any air in the system. Second, I’d do a block test to make sure the head gasket isn’t blown.
what is an adequate temperature the engine should be at at most time?
My 08 charger rt usually engine temp 94-100 degrees and that’s with a new radiator/coolant top up and cold air intake and it still runs pre hot. But I jus got it back from the shop today for inspection no leaks no problems but needs new tires lol. So my advice do what you can to cool it off and don’t shut it off to soon when driving it hard let it sit for 2-3 mins before you turn it off I also open the hood with a fan going in my garage

Could have issues with your bottom end if it’s knocking.
My 014 hemi over heats after 5-10 min of me driving sometimes will shutoff on me at a light my gauge Never lets me know when the car is running Hot .....
The first thing you need to do,a block test to make sure you don’t have a blown head gasket
What’s temp is to hot?
I don’t like anything over 220 degrees. At 230 degrees you’ll start running hot. Car temps should be around 195-210 on the average vehicle.
