And FYI on the 5.7L Hemi the "stupid beauty cover that doesn't do anything" actually keeps the engine from shutting off in heavy rain/high dampness, dont drive without it.
Those 5.7's are notorious for eating roller lifter bearings. As for ZF's one needs to put a spin on external oil filter and keep it changed as they generate tons of used clutch material.
I'm 81 years old and just sadly had to surrender my 2007 R/T with the 5.7 litre engine . I can't see well enough to drive any more I bought it new , drove it every day and maintained it religiously .It was exciting to drive and never caused me one minute of problems .
Thing is totally not cared for. I have a 2013 hemi charger with 130k miles and it has none of these issues. Lifters don't tick, no misfires, and it still ripps putting a smile on my face. I do all my own maintenance though, and have an obsession with it so that may be why....
There is a known problem with Hemis from around then where if the owner runs anything heavier than the recommended 5w-20 oil it will starve the lifters for oil if idled excessively and they will wear down the cam lobes. Pretty textbook case you've got there. They've fixed that issue in the last few years, but you should still run 5w-20 oil like is recommended. The problem is that people think they know more than engineers and run what they THINK it needs. People tend to mistakenly think that thicker oil protects better, which it doesn't. Hemis run forever if you take care of them. I've seen tons of them well over 300k...
Ford owners are the same way. They think 5W20 is "too thin" and they run 10W40 or 20W50 and then wonder why their engines self-destruct. I see it all the time.
ive been a mechanic for 30+ years im also a dodge fan worked on everything. ive found the dodge hemi is a solid engine. i myself have a 2007 Charger with the same engine that you show in your video. it has 270,000 + miles on it and it runs great. and it gets 24 miles to the gallon. also very comfy riding car.
What's the average life of a 5.7l engine? I want to rebuild an engine on a challenger and I take care of and work on my own cars but is it worth rebuilding?
@@pcp3925 normally I hear those engines crap out at 100k but those are people that can't even tell you the last time they changed their oil. I think the complaints are from people that buy off Craigslist and inherit someone else's poorly cared for car. Toyota prius has the same issue so even though the prius is a great car the previous owner is what makes or breaks it.
Funny thing is Chevy makes a crate engine that’s like 1500hp with no supercharger or turbo it’s just straight dumb Chevy May had dropped their coke in those engines
I was having lots of problems like this on my 5.7 Hemi engine. It had bad intermittent misfires especially at idle and terrible gas mileage. I thought it was bad engine wear. I took off the plastic intake and the gaskets at the manifold ports were shrunken down completely. Replaced them all and it runs like new again with great mileage. Always make sure your intake is completely sealed!
I own a 2006 Dodge Charger Srt8 with 112,000 miles. I have had no such problems. Runs great. The only problem I've had is with the stereo that recently blacked out. So sorry Scotty. That ain't always the case.
Try featuring one that has been taken care of properly like my 2014 Charger R/T Max with 227,000 miles. Yes I just changed the struts and shocks and am replacing the mds solenoids but it still runs and shifts perfect and gets 26 mpg. Regular maintenance does wonders especially when you're the original owner.
I feel 70% it’s the owner and the other 30% it’s cause you got right car that don’t give you no problem. And I’m sure you find that in all car companies that going to have a issue.
that's great to hear. I have a 2014 rt max as well with 76,500miles on it. Great upgrade from my last car plus I've wanted a charger since I was 7 years old and this is my favorite body style. I plan to keep it for 5 years or longer. when this goes bad you never know I might get a srt 2014 charger with lower miles 🤣
Shane Vaughan Amen, Impalas are actually famous for being very reliable cars, every single owner of an Impala I’ve met (I’m one too) has consistently managed to get 350k miles on them if they chose to keep it that long, AND very few times ever having to take it into the shop outside of typical routine maintenance. So far, my Impala has had an O2 sensor fail before its time, that’s the only time I needed an extra trip to the shop
I was in a class action lawsuit with dodge they don't create enough zinc in oil to perform in a hemi motor. The lawsuit lasted more than a year. I sold the car ! Way to many engine problems!
I have a 2010 Dodge Charger RT, with 185,000 miles on it. I daily drive it everyday, I put about 400 miles a week on it. I get 27 miles to the gallon on the highway, And it still runs like a champ, that in mind it is always been garage kept, it has not been ridden hard. It is well taken care of, always receiving preventive maintenance when it needs it. I honestly think that if you just take care of these cars, they run just fine. I've had no issues out of mine at all. I'm the 2nd owner, the first being my MIL.
I got a 14' Charger R/T myself, and take care of it. Correct oil, don't do burnouts, and donuts, and keep it garaged as well. Tranny has been fine too. Regular fluid changes, and hasn't been an issue either. Has treated me great, and I still enjoy it 5 years later. As well mine was 3 1/2 years old when I bought it. I disagree with scotty on this one.
True but it's the right and BEST thing to do. His scan tool takes SCOTTY to the bank with PLENTIFUL $ laughing. While his toy have very low depreciation $.
These chargers were backed by the 5 speed Mercedes 5G-Tronic originally built to handle the MB V12. These units could handle well over 600 lb-ft of torque so it was not over-stressed. It did require fluid and filter changes every 40-50K and had a tendency to leak from it's plug harness but that is usually an easy fix. I've owned a few of these that got close to or over 200K with no issues, still smooth. Likely a lot of charger owners drove like madmen and did 0 maintenance.
I have two hemis, one is a ram work truck with 671302 miles. No mechanical problems. Ever. The second is a charger almost the exact same as the one in the video, with 310k. Only problem that happened in it was the thermostat ran out. If you take care of your vehicles you should be fine
@@Yammie_Moto671 You realize you can take the most well-built and reliable car on planet Earth give it to a dumb teenager/college student and when you come back in a year the car may not even a run....... Not because the car is crap but because they ran it out of transmission fluid, or they busted the CV axle. If an owner doesn't take care of his/her car it will not last.
I've got a 2013 Charger Pursuit with the 5.7 Hemi. Bought it 90,000 miles, 160,000 miles on it now. Haven't had any problems with it and it's still strong
@@geoffrolland2676 really? last i read... at least with my 07, and what i've seen working on it... only the drivetrain was Daimler from the transmission back to the axles. the engine and everything else involved with that was made in the US. considering how much electronics was in my 07, if they were Daimler it couldn't have made it to the 90% North American manufactured and assembled requirements. now i've absolutely no clue how Fiat has changed things since they took over. but i'm pretty sure you're incorrect about the Chargers' electronics being Daimlers'. but hey, i might be wrong, i haven't cleaned and checked every single black box or wiring harness in the whole vehicle. i've probably only examined 30-40% of them. i have been working on it since i got it 13 years ago brand new with not even engine break-in mileage on the odometer.
I just traded my 392 hemi(averaged 25mpg) for my Redeye(averaging 22mpg) and I love both of them. Super reliable cars if you don't neglect them like this one obviously was.
@@simply-_- what do you mean what!... Dodge is junk even the damn challenger is junk, believe me its a piece of crap its no good. Dodge will never make quality made cars, they make cars to breakdown on on every stoplight😂🤣. I learned my lesson the hard way and i will never buy a piece of crap Dodge in my life again.
I never thought I'd ever remotely be interested in owning a dodge at all. Though recently I got a deal I couldn't refuse on an 09 Charger ex police car that came with a 70k mile engine I had to put in. No issues so far and I've kind of fallen in love with the thing. Never wanted it but even as old as it is. It is in far better condition than this car in the video lol and I'm loving it so far.
I’m very familiar with these engines and know a lot of people that work on these cars and none of them ever claimed the hemi engines are terrible. That’s one of the things that is usually rock solid.
Naaah won’t ever need any befor 250k with any BMW engine yes have all the kind of failures in the world like electronics, water pump etc. but mechanical parts? let’s be honest here it’s German so this thing can take a beating Mind you my front door neighbor has a 2018 Challenger with a 5.7, and I have to say this thing lifers ticking sound is astonishingly loud, his and many other Hemies at stoplights.
@@StockTurboN20 just type Tyler Hoovie in your search bar about the "reliability" of BMW engines. Sure, if you don't mind replacing valve stems, VANOS controls, bottom ends of motors(S65 V10), oil burning at alarming rates, etc....sure they're reliable. Your E46 are the last of the good Bimmers.
Out of 5 stars I give you 1, nice effort though.. Next time you should use a different over used joke, maybe that’ll rack up the likes that you’re begging for lol..
Went to the dealer about a year ago for a recall on my airbags and ended up with another recall in the belt after running the scanner, long story short I got a free new engine in a 09 5.7 after that

Hey Scotty, I'm a big fan, love your videos. However, you need to know, I'm a big mopar fan. I've owned plenty all bought new, 1985 Omni 2.2, 1989 Daytona 2.5 turbo, 1995 Talon turbo tsi, 2002 Caravan 3.3, 2006 Grand Cheerokee Limited 5.7, 2015 Durango 3.6, all were great and well maintained I drove each vehicle to 130k-150k miles. Never any complaints and as a 19 year old kid I beat the Daytona & Talon constantly. I get bored after a few years, is why I change vehicles every 5 years or so. I think people who buy dodge simply do not take care of them. So, please ease up on Dodge. Not the best fit & quality but not the worst & they're affordable and worth the money. Love you anyway Scotty
mopar lifer here, was looking to switch out to something else as my 2016 Caravan is just a little on the wrong side of super boring and no longer fits my lifestyle needs (looking for a truck, which is why i'm on this video now). I agree actually, a lot. I remember my own Daytona had super high km's on it (sorry, Canadian) and while it had problems, it ranks as my favorite overall car i've ever owned. Had I had the money to maintain it the way it deserved, I might have been able to keep it for years longer than I did. This Caravan i've now owned for 4 years, im the original owner of it (rolled it off the show room floor) and I'm thankful to have had the money to keep it running through all it's problems (Turn signal module, coolant thermostat, rear brakes). Which to date, a super recent Cylinder 6 misfire has been the only engine related problem. I got that sucker fixed immediately and it's back to running totally fine. I've heard nothing but screaming praise for that 3.6L Pentastar that's under the hood, and noticed it's the default engine inside of the Ram 1500's. I think if I had any say in the matter I'd pull for a V8 Hemi model though. Either way, I agree, it's about taking care of it and it'll serve you well for a very long time. Anyways, sorry, wall of text lol cheers
Yeah he said that the chargers/300s/challengers after 2012 had the bad transmissions, which makes sense since that’s when the Mercedes/Chrysler partnership ended. Too be honest, the cars are objectively really really really shitty. They’re affordable and fun though.
@@steveg9302 ahhh actually no. Daimler still made the transmissions even after Fiat and Chrysler merged. you'd have to ask an expert exactly when FCA flipped to different tranny builders. my Charger is an 07 so... shrug... i'm a bit behind in my research.
I bought a 2013 Charger recently, I live in EU. The interior quality is lower compared to European cars but that is to be expected. Anything special I should be looking out for? It seems to me the car is pretty solid, puts smile on my face when I drive it. It is the 5.7 RWD R/T with 5 speed auto. It has 50.000 miles currently.
@@emsicz check suspension, especially tie rod ends, links, ball joints and ESPECIALLY check the bushings. Bushings are cheap to buy and easy to replace yourself. Probably will have to replace radiator fans and oil pressure sensors (possibly other sensors too) Other than that just do regular oil changes at 5k intervals (although I do 3k) if you got the V8. Transmission fluid flush could be an option. Would probably be best if it has the Mercedes transmission in it. Other than that check for vacuum leaks and cracked hoses and leaks (oil and transmission), could be worth it to replace some gaskets. Spark plugs will need to be replaced soon too at that mileage. This HEMI is HOT and burns oil. It’s a tremendous engine but everything around it needs to be functioning well in order for it to not mess up so that you don’t end up getting worn lifters and misfires (all mostly due to lack of clean oil). Regular oil changes is the best measure to take to prevent it, but also checking for regular vacuum leaks and making sure that the hoses aren’t cracked or leaking. In other words, it’s made to last but only if you service this car correctly. I’ve seen HEMIs with 350k miles on it, and HEMIs that dropped valve covers at 50k. Differential fluid may also be something worth replacing. All in all I love these cars, but yes, the interiors are terrible.
@@steveg9302 I'm replacing oil every 3k miles. Sparkplugs replaced already. I literally dropped it for transmission and diff fluid change today, as I was made aware it's something I should've done already. The car is running hot, I can testify to that. When I put my hand out of the window, I can feel the heat coming from underneath the car. I'll see if the garage comes up with any other issues they may find. I found a good US-cars only service with good reputation, hopefully I'll be good. I watched some videos yesterday on valve lifters going bad in these engines, something that can't really be influenced. I wonder if 2013 Charger is affected by this flaw.
When Scotty talks, with his lips moving and his hands waving around, I keep looking for the strings that go up to the puppeteer. I think Scotty died years ago and UA-cam just turned him into a marionette.
I have an 08 r/t 60k mileage and it runs like a charm. However i take very good care of her. Always cleaned matained undercoated and polished. Normally I like Scotty's videos but this one hit home a bit. A 2012 with that many problems has just been neglected by previous owner.
It is a good illustration of the kind of HEMI Charger you're bound to get if you buy a used one without care, though- usually the used HEMIs that run well are kept by their owners
Correction: Zf is german and before it was in that toyota you always talked about ram, jeep, dodge transmissions as they are 💩 . Now that the exact same model is in a toyota, it became a good transmission...okay makes sense, good thing there is no bias here
Scotty I gotta disagree here, I have a 2011 Chrysler 300c with the Hemi (yes it has a slight lifter tick) but it has over 100,000 miles. I maintain it properly and it still has plenty of power, runs great and shifts great! I look at that charger and see a car that has been beat and that's not the fault of the manufacturer that's on the owner.
Dang I have a 2011 and the coolant ends up leaking all the time the engine was just swapped the radiator and water pump and I just keep having coolant probs
Those Hemi engines are the best. My buddy put over 250k hard miles on his 03 Dodge truck before one of the rocker arms went bye bye. Fixed it and back on the road again.
Don't blame the V8 hemi. Clearly the previous owner didn't maintain the engine very well, which is why it's having lifter and cam problems. If owner won't even repair his glass, you think the engine is getting on-time oil service?
The 5 spd auto is from Mercedes tho, and it’s not terrible. I’ve had my 2009 challenger rt auto for about 2 years, and the only thing I replaced is the tires, and rear shocks. I only paid $15k out the door 65k miles, and it even had nice upgrades. It came on lowering springs, aftermarket 20” wheels, pirelli p zero tires, new drilled and slotted brake rotors all around, a srt intake manifold, a mopar cai, a magnaflow muffler, and ceramic tints
Xanomoros Films The way I drive it, I wouldn’t be surprised to see something break. I only owe about 3K so I can pay it off whenever, but the apr is stupid low so there’s really no need. I’m just waiting to pay it off to get a hellcat anyways, not worth investing more money trying to make a 5.7 hemi faster
@@Xanomoros You and Scotty really need to educate yourselves about these cars. They have some common failure points, but the transmissions are not one of them.
Mercedes unloaded Chrysler in 2007. This is a 2012 model Charger, the 2nd year of the latest generation which started production 4 years after Mercedes divested of the Dodge/Chrysler money pit.
@@tyguy070 The old 727 Torqueflite automatic trans was basically bulletproof. They could handle all kinds of abuse. Whole different story with the more modern Chrysler automatic transmissions. Over the last 25 years or so they have been well known for transmission problems as well as electrical/computer problems. Only in the last few years have Chrysler products become much better
I’m fairly new here to his channel and was sooo shocked to find out he’s only about 30-40 minutes away from me. I’d do anything to have him fix my dodge 1500 truck.
I was in Houston for work last month. I keyed in his name and keyed in “address” and it showed his house. I drove by around 9 a.m. wondering if he might be working in his driveway. And to my surprise he was standing out in the front of the driveway waiting for a customer. I slowed down and told him I was a fan and he told me to park my truck and hang out I parked in the driveway across the street and we chatted for about 45 minutes It was just like being in one of his videos. He’s the same in person as he is in the videos. Knowledgeable about all kinds of topics. I had my picture taken with him and went on my way thinking that my life is now complete. Super nice, gracious guy that had plenty of time for Joe blow off the street.
I’ve said it before on your channel, with simple maintenance, the 5.7 liter Hemi is bulletproof. My dad and I bought my mom a 2005 300C that has been trouble free for 200,000 miles. I bought a 2007 300C AWD that has 329,000 miles on it and it’s my son’s daily driver. I bought a 2009 Challenger with a 5.7 that I put 250,000 miles on because I commuted from Pennsylvania to New York every day. I bought a 2014 300C awd that has 82,000 miles and my wife drives it every day. I have a 2019 Challenger RT that I bought in December. I’ve never had ANY electronic “gremlin” issues on any of them, unlike my wife’s Cadillac CTS that we ended up giving away. Same issue with the 2016 Chevy Cruze that my other son bought new. I love your channel and you’re definitely a skilled mechanic. Some of the “broad stroke” generalizations that you make, however, are off the mark.
I've been around Chrysler products my whole life and was not a very big fan of them. All these people keep telling me how good their hemis are running. I wouldn't buy another one.
LS motor: just need a new cam and rockers and it's golden Hemi: just needs a new cam and rockers, complete garbage? Hypocracy 8 hours of work to change rockers? A decent shop can have that done in one to two hrs.
Lmao I was wondering if I was the only one thinking the same thing. That poor charger wasn't even close to being taken care of by owner and it's still running with almost 150k miles!
No cam and lifer change in a new LS or 3rd gen HEMI is easily 7 or 8hrs of labor. Unlike old schooI V8s, the top deck of these engines in closed. Both cylinder heads and plus timing cover must be removed. Oil pan must be dropped to remove the oil pump so the timing chain can come off for the camshaft removal...it's a job
I want to see this magician at this decent shop put cams and rockers in 1-2 hours and have everything within spec and the vehicle running as designed or better. I'll wait....
I have had a 2004 hemi durango that went to 250 miles with no engine and no transmission problems, did not even need to charge any suspension, finally got rear ended. great truck, now i have a 2014 300 c hemi awd now at 145 miles absolutely great car, absolutely no issues and I drive it hard. spent nothing on repairs, only changed brakes. interior is still like new,
Less issues with earlier engines 2009 and newer with vct have issues. More frequent than recommended oil changes and calmer driving style will probably increase engine longevity.
It's design was based on the W210 e class, it was also called the LX platform; the dodge Grand caravan RT platform was based on the W251 Mercedes R class chassis ; as well as the WK2 Jeep grand Cherokee; which is based on the W164 ML SUV.
@@TheWholeGrainBread_Real he's saying cams referring to the cam lobes, we're saying cams like most people would referring to the camshaft and lobes as one unit
Problem with Chrysler's is their QA. You could get a car that is all good and will go the distance. Or has numerous little problems off the assembly line and will be a money pit even when you first get it. And then chrysler won't cover you for a warranty. This is true in their "economy cars" their upper trim projects always get more attention. They're just decent but they cheap out on all the expensive parts a car needs to be solid and reliable.
My last car was a 2016 miles the 6 grand touring the car was phenomenal. Only thing I didn't like was the infotainment wasn't the best but they've updated that in the new models. My only fear about Driving a Toyota or a Mazda or any small car is that people are not attentive in a few get hit by a truck or big car when you're in one of those your life could be over quickly
5.7 is probably the most reliable v8 on the market man. The hemi tick is always really annoying but never had engine problems with my 2014 rt awd charger had 164k miles before I just traded for a 2019. Use high quality oil after 75k miles like penz oil high mileage synthetic and service the other components when manufacture recommends service. It puts more of a hole in your pocket for the 7 quarts of oil but keeps the engine long lasting and happy. The owner probably didn't do services as recommended and this happened.
Then you have the NAG trans in it. Mercedez built and its one of the better transmission chrsyler has. That and the 48rle and 68rfe are pretty good ones as well
Ive never had a problem with my 2007 Ram with the Hemi. 103k miles. Have a 2018 Hemi Challenger....only 27k miles, so far no problems. As for the car in this video, Chrysler did improve/fix the lifter roller issues on the newer 5.7 engines from 2017 on up. I do believe the issue with this particular car.
The 5.7 eagle version (gen 3 2009+) does have a history of lifter failure .. essentially the bearings on the lifter roller fail which causes the cam lobe damage.. proper maintenance will help reduce the potential but it's due to the overall design of the engine which reduces the oil distributed to the cam from engine rotation.. most high end replacement cam kits have lifters with much more robust bearings.. it's really not that hard to replace the cam if you are mechanically inclined.. beyond that the engine is pretty solid
Ive had water in mine, and have pushed so much through that at WOT itll studder through 2nd to keep from blowing up, still get that burning smell, but its got 160k harsh miles on it 🤣
Facts, correct me if I’m wrong but this is a Mercedes 5 speed not a Chrysler. Easily can last at least 300k miles when properly maintained. So many people have 700whp in their E55 AMGs with stock internals and transmission shifting just fine lmao
@@diablocls55 the dodge variant is slightly weaker in some parts but largely it's a Mercedes trans it'll hold alot of power 600tq is when it let's out on dodge apparently but u can swap the parts and make it as strong as the Mercedes trans
yes they are once they get over that 100,000-mile mark... lubrication has to always be on time with quality oil, and filter to hold off the lifter DAMAGE...
Of course not!! Is the owner who didn't give the proper care cuz those hemis are indestructible, however the '50s, '60s and '70 where the bettest so far!
The reason why the Hemi's are cam eaters is because the engineers for some reason decided to raise the camshaft height 1" above the crank ultimately creating a lack of lubrication on the lifters making them tick until they sieze. UncleTony'sGarage discovered it
They switched to the ZF 8 speed in 2015, and the NAG 5 speed transmission was from Mercedes when they owned Dodge and it is a great transmission I've got one in my 2003 RAM 2500 4x4 with almost 290,000 and I haven't even had 1 hiccup and that's putting Payloads of wet live oak weighing in at 6,000lbs. 1 full cord and even hauling my gooseneck dump trailer with 6 bundles of rough cut 2x8x14 lumber and on the lumber miles scales I weighed in at 36,110lbs. so I guess I'm one of the lucky one with an all around well built truck. And the way I see it if it can hold up under my normal use it will hold up under anyone's abuse! Plus I do have a few videos of it on my channel showcasing the wood and how I haul it with the stakes in the pockets.
A well-maintained Hemi will do the miles just fine - I see them on a regular basis with 200-300k+ and owners happy as can be. Scotty's also wrong on the transmission - the 5 speed automatic on older Chargers is the Mercedes W5A580, not a particularly troublesome transmission at all. But what the heck do I know, I was a Chrysler tech and worked on them everyday! Just love how he shows a clapped out Charger and paints it out like all Chargers/Hemis are junk. They're a mechanic-friendly vehicle, lots of room in the engine compartment despite the V8.
Early HEMI 426 cu in engines had solid lifter engines with a higher redline. 60's hydraulic cams couldn't rev beyond 6K, but didn't require constant valve lash adjustments every 1000 miles (like the GM 409 HO)
I love my Durango RT 5.7 HEMI runs like a beast no major problems so far thank God. You dont know what your talking about on this one Scotty. MOPAR OR NO CAR!!!!
...and is a fairly good transmission. The same transmission in the SRT Grand Cherokees. People are running twin turbos on the 6.1's making 1000HP and putting it to this transmission. Really Scotty?
The W5A580 transmission was still in service up until a couple years ago - it's a great transmission. Not sure what he's on about. Chrysler only makes a few transmissions of their own design currently (40TES, 62TE, and 68RFE). The rest are ZF designs. He was also incorrect about Chargers only having ZF designed transmissions in them from 2020 on. They've been putting ZF 8HP70 8 speed autos in Hemi Chargers and Challengers for the past 5 years.
@@jlrgaming8754 all true. And the ZFs have been in V6 LXs since 2013. The 850RFE is ZF-designed, but built by Chrysler. All in all, Chrysler really doesn't have transmission problems like many years ago. The W5A580 was stout enough to handle the 6.0L AMG V8(S65/SL65/CL65) for years without fail. That engine put out 738lb-ft of torque from the factory! Again, maintenance is key.
I'm on my third Ram 1500 with the hemi. Bighorn 4× 4.... Never a problem or anything, other than replacing O2 sensor. And I drove and drive em like a race car. But also take care of them too !!!
Scotty clearly explained why Dodge's have issues. People abuse them. No one is "going to have fun" in a Toyota. It's like saying Jeep Wrangler is a trash vehicle because it breaks all the time. If you drive any vehicle like the typical Wrangler owner, it will break all the time too. Including the ones who take it to the mall and back. They still lift them and put huge tires on.
@@KevinSmith-qi5yn Lol exactly, and anything breaks when you beat on it long enough. Especially without proper maintenance. There are more than one Hemi these days, and 5.7 is the least durable out of them. The high performance motors are in the SRTs and Scat packs, and starts with a 6.1. Which they stopped making in 2010, and is the Challenger that I have. Then is the 6.4 or 392, and the hellcats are powered by the supercharged 6.2 FYI
So, you say people beat the cars to death, then you say 'everything breaks on these cars'. I'm betting the owners hasn't kept up on the maintenance. You can't fault the car if the owner doesn't care about the car... and you can tell they don't. Who drives around with broken glass? A tire is probably low, therefor the light. I bet the light is doing it's job. What makes you think the previous owner ever changed the oil or did anything else? Anyone can beat to death any brand car.
7scrib oh idk, maybe because scotty made a video about their car? (if they are charger owners anyways) i dont understand what watching a video and giving constructive criticism has to do with anything.
7scrib i dont really care what your opinion is just like i dont care about the OP’s opinion is. im just defending them because everyones entitled to their own opinions, especially if its just some constructive criticism (which is what his comment is). and its hilarious that youre telling me replying to people is a waste of time yet you are doing the exact same. hypocritical much? same way you say “dont like it, move on” you couldve used that same advice with the OP’s comment. dont like it, agree with it? move on. you didnt HAVE to comment.
Scotty is trying to say that the glass is horrible on these cars when in reality the glass on every single car truck is basically purchased at the same factory. I have lost respect for this man.
To be fair I drive around with a cracked windshield because those things don't last long in the sticks and it's not broke enough to fix yet. However I do keep up a regular maintenance schedule on my 93 pathfinder and I'm almost done rebuilding my engine for the first time so I've become well aware of how important it is to maintain your vehicle.
My sister had a 2007 Chrysler Aspen. The vehicle had a 5.7 liter Hemi. She put 165,000 miles on it. She never had any serious issues with the vehicle let alone the engine.
Hemis after 2008 are actually really good people give the older ones a bad rap because you have a 1/100 chance to get a bad one new now most the bad ones are gone
I have an 05 300c with the 5.7 hemi 126 thousand miles been had the car for 5 years now have changed radiator, thermostat, water pump and intake manifold gasket so far
He did an excellent failure analysis, showing that the redesign starves the lifters of oil at idle. It's not cheap Chinese parts ( this time), it's poor design.. I recommend Lucas Oil Additive for this issue, and not a lot of idling time either. And if starts ticking, check the lifters out right away .

Spot on ,
Ford owners are the same way. They think 5W20 is "too thin" and they run 10W40 or 20W50 and then wonder why their engines self-destruct. I see it all the time.
Exactly.

Probably will have to replace radiator fans and oil pressure sensors (possibly other sensors too)
Other than that just do regular oil changes at 5k intervals (although I do 3k) if you got the V8.
Yeah, totally agree with you. I just bought a 2014 Chrysler 300C last month and it runs great, had no problems. Just some very minor scratches.
My moms 03 suburban with 210k miles has no issues in the engine. He’s right if you’ve already got a lifter tick with over 100k and 200k or 300k
Dang I have a 2011 and the coolant ends up leaking all the time the engine was just swapped the radiator and water pump and I just keep having coolant probs
Mine has 90000kms and occasionally ticks. Should I be worried?
Those Hemi engines are the best. My buddy put over 250k hard miles on his 03 Dodge truck before one of the rocker arms went bye bye. Fixed it and back on the road again.
Almost 300k on my 5.7 Hemi and still running strong
lmfao i hope mine last that long
Scotty dies lol
He don’t know what he talking my friend have 300 on his dodge
Running strong after replacing a couple things huh my friend lol..
Nice. Which model is it?
Don't blame the V8 hemi. Clearly the previous owner didn't maintain the engine very well, which is why it's having lifter and cam problems. If owner won't even repair his glass, you think the engine is getting on-time oil service?
Exactly
The lifter failure happens on almost all hemis that have been taken care of or not
@@griffind262 true. But oil changes every 3k miles definitely helps extend cam/lifter life.
Give it another year or two, I sure hope you paid cash rather than finance it
Xanomoros Films why you say that
Xanomoros Films The way I drive it, I wouldn’t be surprised to see something break.

And to my surprise he was standing out in the front of the driveway waiting for a customer. I slowed down and told him I was a fan and he told me to park my truck and hang out I parked in the driveway across the street and we chatted for about 45 minutes It was just like being in one of his videos.

Hemi: just needs a new cam and rockers, complete garbage? Hypocracy
8 hours of work to change rockers? A decent shop can have that done in one to two hrs.
Book time isn't the same for actual time. That's how a great mechanic can make bank.
The 8 hours is charged for the labor. What it pays. After you fix a few of them you can do it in 2-3 hours. How you make profit...

You've convinced me not to buy an eight year old one with 140,000 miles on it, that's for sure.

My 2008 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T only has 125k miles,I take care of mine 💪
I have an 06 SRT8 with 174k still running
The 5.7 eagle version (gen 3 2009+) does have a history of lifter failure .. essentially the bearings on the lifter roller fail which causes the cam lobe damage.. proper maintenance will help reduce the potential but it's due to the overall design of the engine which reduces the oil distributed to the cam from engine rotation.. most high end replacement cam kits have lifters with much more robust bearings.. it's really not that hard to replace the cam if you are mechanically inclined.. beyond that the engine is pretty solid
The NAG1 transmission is hella sturdy it can handle about 650hp till things go south

Yea... it's a bad engine
yes they are once they get over that 100,000-mile mark... lubrication has to always be on time with quality oil, and filter to hold off the lifter DAMAGE...
This Himi hasnt been maintained very well, i seen the 5.7 Himi go over 300k with no problems.

You're talking to a high mile hemi owner. 312 on 05 300c owned it at 18 and you know how 18 year olds are with treating their cars
NAG1s last forever ***with proper maintenance of course***
