So before you got the new apartment you couldn’t pay for the evicted apartment you were currently living in? That’s deposit, rent, utilities fees, and help with moving. That adds up to alot of money. Why not just pay for the current apartment

The eviction process doesn't happen overnight and costs a considerable amount of time and money for the landlord.
All the while the tenant is living in the landlord's personal property for free.
Can the landlord stop paying the mortgage property taxes and other expenses related to the property when the tenant stops paying rent?
Unless the total amount owed is paid whatever the tenant contributes is just taken off the amount they owed in the first place.

Back in the late 1970's I always knew I would need a place to live when I graduated high school in 1980. I took all my savings that I had earned from working my summer time jobs and bought an acre of land and a mobile home for $5,750. That was 44 years ago and I still live in the same place till this day. If you do the math that averages out to be $11 a month it has cost me to have a place to call home. Next year my property will have completely paid for itself. I'm a "jack of all trades" and have kept up on all the repairs and upgrades my home has needed throughout all the 44 years. Everything works in my home as it was intended to 🙂. I had no worries of eviction when covid- 19 hit our country and I have never had to worry about that dreaded knock on my door from a landlord. I don't have anyone telling me what I can't do on my property because I live out in the country without any restrictions. I can work on my own cars, have overnight guests, and have as many cars and pets as I want without having to answer to ANYONE. I have never regretted buying my home ❤. Security is a wonderful thing to have in life..

@debbie4503 In Michigan if a non-payment eviction is filed they can still collect even if not paid in full. They have extra time to execute the writ if they choose, but can still do it if it's not paid in full. The termination of tenancy cases are where they cannot collect rent once notice to quit is issued. They are able to sue after they're out for any back rent, even for the period they weren't allowed to collect while the case was pending. Every state is different though. Michigan allows wage and tax refund garnishments for civil judgments as well.

My heart goes out to this man. However, what some people fail to understand is that landlords have to carry payments and repairs when tenants do not pay. If you're in an apartment, they generally move to evict the very 1st month when rent is missed. Private landlords will normally try to work with the tenant, but landlords have to survive too. It has always been interesting to me for people to expect more from a private landlord than wealthy investors who own apartment complexes. Landlords have bills just like the tenants. My husband and I are landlords, worked with tenants when they got behind, only for them to try to get over on us in the end. It's not a reasonable expectation for a landlord to tell a tenant, just keep the money you owe me and move. Even if the landlord can afford to do so, they should not be expected to. When tenants live in homes and fail to pay, they are then taking income from someone else. I simply refuse to pay for someone else to live in a home that's in my name.

My Mother lives in a 55+ apartment complex. Very nice place and she loves it there. It is based on ability to pay for the rent with a minimum rent of $950 per month for 1 bedroom. Water, sewage, and heat included. Electric & cable/internet/phone she pays. She currently pays $1,050 per month now based on her current income. When my Father was living, they paid $1,375.00. Sad as it sounds, evictions are picking up in the building. The cost of living/medical expenses are rising to fast. They have also placed 5 illegal immigrant couples in the building, "over 55 but they sneak younger family members in." It is hard to believe they would evict a elderly person for a illegal but if you don't pay the rent ??? Illegals get up to $2,100 rent allowance. And they get free health care and EBT. The rumor mill in the facility claim the lessee wants the higher rents they get for illegals. I hope that's not true. My Mom loves it there. They have bus trips for the seniors and bingo, a shuttle for Dr. appointments. She has a room when she wants it at my home or my Sisters, but she is healthy and wants to live own her own as long as she can. I felt so sorry for this man with his health concerns being home less. I hope they called some organization that could help him get housing at least temporarily until he can find another place.
