Rush in Rio is one of my favorite live recordings of all time, because this is a crowd hyped beyond all sense of reason! Basically Brazil had an incredible fan base for the band... but Rush wasn’t really aware of it until this late stage of their career. So you had all these people in Brazil, fans who had abandoned all hope of ever witnessing Rush live... but when Rush did eventually find out, they deliberately added an extra two or three shows in Brazil. The documentary included on the DVD shows you the passion unleashed, men and women both just weeping openly just at the anticipation that Rush is coming... and then this, a football stadium filled to the brim with people whose dreams are finally realized. Simply epic...

I was 15 years old and it was the most incredible thing that had happed to me in my life to that point. I was a super fan! Speaking for hard core Rush fans, thanks for treating our treasured material with such respect. It brings joy to see the Rush unexposed experience a song like this for the first time. Loved it.
Fun fact...The cover for this album "Moving Pictures" is a triple entendre; the front depicts movers who are carrying pictures. On the side, people are shown crying because the pictures passing by are emotionally "moving". Finally, the back cover has a film crew making a motion picture of the whole scene. It was photographed outside the Ontario Legislative Building at Queen's Park, Toronto. The pictures that are being moved are the band's Starman logo featured on the reverse cover of 2112 (1976), one of the Dogs Playing Poker paintings entitled A Friend in Need, and a painting that shows Joan of Arc being burned at the stake. The film crew on the back cover actually shot the scene, from which a single frame was used for the cover. This was revealed to Rush concertgoers several years later when the still image was shown on the stage projector which suddenly came to life as a film sequence.
I saw a Rush over 30 years ago...this song is still rocks today as it did then! They have aged and we have lost Neil...... but their music will endure. 2112 if you have not. All of it!
Not by me. He's good for Rush, but he can't hold a drum stick to the likes of Bruford, Collins, Bozzio, Thompson, Humphries, Wreckl, Paice and Porcaro, etc.
I Just found out Neil Peart died moments ago, and then found this video. Rush was one of the things that made it okay for me to be a little weird when I was a kid, and it's so wonderful to see this man's utter joy at what - even among the whitest of us white folks - is considered dreadfully uncool. I'm so glad you found Rush, and I'm glad to have found this video at this moment in time. Jamel_AKA_Jamal, thank you. Neil, shine on, you crazy diamond.
This band were my rock heroes growing, Neil Peart especially I'm a drummer. I find myself appreciating much more with these your videos posted. Thank you!!

Rush do amazing instrumentals. In addition to their great songs with profound lyrics by drummer Neil Peart, sung by bassist/keyboardist/multi- instrumentalist Geddy Lee, and the amazing guitar work of Alex Lifeson.
I remember when my dad would come home from work we would geek out on the Rush In Rio concert together. Fond memories. We both was into music and played guitar so there was a lot of bonding there. I miss those times.

'It's zed, and no Neal Peart stands alone'
You called
JAZZ HANDS!!!
Archer!
R.I.P. Neil Peart. One of my favorite human beings of all time. So great at everything he did. I cried when he passed because he was such a good human.
The best thing to ever come out of Canada.....
I'd like to also add poutine. Oh, and insulin.
Raw Key Jean Cantius Garand.
Shatner is in the top 10.
So Happy to see others reaction to music that I have literally lived by for over 40 years now!! I’ve had the pleasure of seeing them over 20 times!! I was devastated by the passing of The Professor! RIP Mr. Peart!💔😢 Your music lives on in Our Hearts!! #RUSH4LF
Rush in Rio is my first stop when that time-machine is out...
Every concert video i see from Brazil the crowds are just always so hyped. Bands must love playing for that kind of audience
throughout most of the video, the crowd is doing their best to "sing" along with the most famous instrumental in rock.
I saw a Rush over 30 years ago...this song is still rocks today as it did then! They have aged and we have lost Neil...... but their music will endure. 2112 if you have not. All of it!
Neil Peart is considered one of the greatest rock drummers ever.
Not by me. He's good for Rush, but he can't hold a drum stick to the likes of Bruford, Collins, Bozzio, Thompson, Humphries, Wreckl, Paice and Porcaro, etc.
Except for Bozzio, none of those drummer hit half as hard as Neil.
@@SpaceCattttt All good...everyone has their preferences.
@@davidkidd4106 Hitting hard is just one way of playing, Kidd.
@@bdmention And I mentioned 8 of them...
Rush is a great band. Seeing them live is magical. You truly appreciate them as artists when you see them live.
Nothing more incredible than having 70,000 people singing along to an instrumental song!
Playing music is a high that I can't describe.
The energy in this song is freaking crazy. There is no other band that could do this
This song is about a life of traveling and returning home. YYZ is the code for the Toronto International Airport.
Was looking for this comment. I think more specifically this song is about the "im finaly home" feeling.
The beginning of the song is also YYZ in Morse code.
This band were my rock heroes growing, Neil Peart especially I'm a drummer. I find myself appreciating much more with these your videos posted. Thank you!!
How many other songs/concerts have you seen where the crowd "sings" to an instrumental? Mind-blowing.
Depeche Mode
The bard song - Blind Guardian
This is by far my Favorite RUSH Song. Being a musician I understand the work that went into writing a song like this that is so intrucate. Love Love Love Love Love IT!!!!!!!!!! There was a wrestler Named Hawk in the 80's, 90's into the 2000's he was 1/2 a tag team called the Road worrierswho use to say "What A Rush" and I always thought of this band when he did it...
Ain't nobody reacted to Anthem yet. I think it's one of their best.
"Anthem" is the first Prog-Metal song ever written!! IMHO, of course...
lemonycake I just typed in ‘Rush anthem reaction’ & there’s like 4 or 5 reactions to it. Maybe more...
@@susanmaggiora4800 I haven't looked in a while. They're all getting hits and I'm subscribing.
