They are NOT showing off. Anyone who knows Rush knows they are the most humble group ever. It just looks like they're showing off because they are that good.
every performance I've seen is top quality musicianship...all the prominent bands from Canada seemed to be like this ..like..if they sucked just a little they didn't make it..
Rush in Rio is one of my favourites to watch. I’ve had the pleasure of seeing them many times here in Canada, but nothing like this; the scope of that event makes the hair on my arms stand up. Between Rush and Iron Maiden, you guys/gals in Brazil know how to do it!
From what I heard is that Rush hadn't toured there before unaware how much a following they had. When discovering that their was an entire army they altered their tour to play multiple shows and history was made. I would love to go back in time and be in that crowd. There must have been a brazillion of you jumping in time.
I was there! 2002 rush in rio Maracana stadium, epic. First Rush show in Brasil. So emotions going on that night. So many tears and energy. The best show ever in my life!!
RIP Neil and also Chris Squire. Since Geddy Lee played with Yes at their Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction instead of Chris i now always think about them both 😢
Passion, humility, honesty, musicianship, chemistry, talent, excitement, and dedication. Traits that Rush displayed constantly for well over 4 decades, not too many bands like that today.
That's because Rush is musicians for musicians. Every Rush fan knows every single note and every single change of every tune. Smart to pick Rush for reactions because they have probably the most devoted fans.
Brazilian crowds have to be the best in the world. Singing along to an instrumental piece. Unbelievable!! Every time I've seen a band play to a Brazilian crowd, the crowd is off the chain and jumping. Just Wow!!
Hey guys! It’s always important to highlight this concert was in Brazil (I was there). The country doesn’t speak English and the crowd sang ALL the songs. The footage is from rio , but a week before the played in São Paulo and for these shows they played some songs they didn’t use to play anymore (like the trees etc), because this one was the first time of Rush in Brazil and in the south hemisphere . 🙌🏻❤️
Welcome to the 40 year experience of Rush and this was filmed when they were in their late 50s maybe early 60s. Not only are they masters of their instruments but Neil (the drummer) wrote some of the most creative and insightful lyrics anywhere. Check it all out early Proto-psychodelic/prog/metal, 2112 is a whole topic of itself, the golden days of late 70s & early 80s (Tom Sawyer, Spirit of Radio, Limelight & La Villa Strangiato), the under appreciated techno/keyboard phase. All the way to their final release with the amazing & beautiful "The Garden" Enjoy!
Hey youngsters, I’m 62 yrs old and my two all time favorite bands are Rush and Nightwish. Rush are three of the most talented rock musicians; recently passed percussionist Neal Peart (check out drum solo at Frankfurt), bass, keyboards, and vocalist, Geddy Lee, and least appreciated, but masterful guitarist Alex Lifeson. Performed over six different decades I believe.
Ken I am also 62 and my favorite 2 bands are also Rush and Nightwish. I have been intensely into Rush since 1974. I haven't felt that way about a band till I was recently introduced to Nightwish. Even though their music is different the path that Nightwish is on is very similar to Rush. Vastly talented. They keep evolving Musically. Intense fan base that grows through word of mouth. Inexplicable lack of mainstream airplay.
Louis Zagone , exactly !!! I found Rush in 1976, my first year of college. The two bands seem to have paralleling careers. Neither foreign (to America) band seem to be concerned with American radio playtime. Both make music for music’s potential sake rather than fitting within the radio’s 3.5 minute time slots between the all important advertising. Geddy Lee once said, “The popular phrase today is Less is More, but no, with our music, More is More !” And that’s true in both bands’ musical compositions. True transitions, key changes, time signature changes, different movements within a song, poetic storytelling or statement promoting lyrics, and the occasional instrumental only composition.
Rush were my favourite band until i discovered Nightwish and guess what i am 62 too. To have lived through the prog rock era at an age where i could appreciate what i heard and now have symphonic metal i have been blessed.
I am so so glad that you guys have found RUSH. I think they are the greatest band ever. For only 3 guys. They are the best. Love your reactions to RUSH.
Frankfurt is a very good solo. Neil described it as well-executed but, the solo in Rio was truly inspired. The band had never been to South or Central America and did not realize the affection the people had for their music. It truly energized the guys and brought out the best in their playing. You can truly feel the emotion between the band and the audience.
i've been to 5 Rush concerts, all I can say is ,Their Perfection Is Perfect . How many Bass players can play bass, sing lead vocals, keyboard and do his laundry at the same time ?
Neil is the best drummer that has walked the face of the earth. Geddy is considered one of the top bassists ever. Alex is extremely talented but it is unfortunate that he is been highly underrated for some reason. Legendary band.
That performance Brings tears every time. Even when I first saw this dvd I had tears of joy for them. The most emotional crowd experience recorded for a group that always was underrated by the mainstream but we all knew they were and continue to be something special.
The keyboard part is much needed. It gives the listener a chance to catch their breath. I t gave this crowd their second wind. Thank you for your reaction.
The Bassist Geddy Lee is not only the bassist and the keyboardist but he is also the lead singer of the group. For a 3 person band they have a much bigger sound than should be considered possible for that few people,.
At some time in their early career, it is rumored that they wanted to be "the worlds smallest rock orchestra." I think they pulled it off many times since then.
Found your channel a couple days ago and subbed. The first group that came to mind that I’d like to see you react to was Rush. And two days later ... here it is. LOL. Neil Peart was one of the top drummers all time. Sadly passed away earlier this year. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Probably the best power trio rock music has ever seen.I never got to see them play live(tears in my 🍺),but have been enjoying them since the early 80's. R.I.P. Professor Peart.🤘🤘✌
Well, well, well. Say Hello to the world of Rush. The fanbase (you saw them) ,the quality of those three musicians and the whole atmosphere. Try Xanadu ~ Exit Stage Left , vital signs and off course Tom Sawyer. Peace from Germany
Great reaction guys! If you do more Rush, you will have a lot of passionate people here to walk you through their 40+ year career with concert stories and backstories of the songs. Geddy Lee - vocals, bass, keyboards and foot pedals; Alex Lifeson - every guitar imaginable and foot pedals; and The Professor, Neil Peart - drums (anything that makes a sound when hit) and main song writer. The music, transitions and lyrics are complex and meaningful. I hope you start this journey. Do yourselves a favor, react to Xanadu - Exit Stage Left. You will not regret it and then come back for more. We can't wait!
YYZ is the airport code for Toronto, their hometown. The opening riff is the morse code for the airport. Here are some other Rush suggestions: Xanadu Live Exit Stage Left Working Man Live Time Machine Tour 2011 La Villa Strangiato Tom Sawyer Red Barchetta Neil Peart Drum Solo Live in Frankfurt
All i got to say Geddy Lee, vocals, keyboards, bass Alex Lifeson guitar the beast The Professor Neil Peart Drums and percussions and lyrics we lost Neil in January this year rip to the greatest drummer of all time i recommend Sprit of Radio its a feel good song to me it is Tom Sawyer is another that introduced me to Rush in 1983 and never looked back 37 years later and they are a big part of my life awesome reaction stay safe Enjoy the Rush train 🚆 no stops in sight lol
So she picks up basically on everything that is really cool about that particular concert that rush performed. She picked up on the fact that the crowd is singing along to an instrumental, she picked up on the fact that the crowd was jumping all together at a 100000 people strong, She picks up on the level of musicianship as well as the passion, like literally nothing got lost on this reaction video. As a life long rush fan I can tell you guys that this Rio concert was one of the most special live performances in the history of this band spanning 40 years. Well done guys! Great video and great reaction!
The title "YYZ" is the call sign for Toronto Airport, the band's home. When they saw that on thier luggage, they knew they were headed home. The syncopation in the beginning is actually morse code for "YYZ"
That's correct. It's actually the city code ..the airport code is CYYZ. You are absolutely right about the intro which is YYZ in morse code and spot on about them seeing "YYZ" on their tickets..lol
Only if you use the full IATA code like in control towers... in the US the airports start with "K", KJFK, KLAX... but for almost all airline business they don't use the first letter, which identifies the country, so Toronto Pearson YYZ , Montreal YUL, Halifax YHZ etc.
RUSH is my wife’s favorite band of all time. They are such an epic band. Much respect for these vetted rockers. Can’t wait to show her this reaction vid. Thanks guys!
They're not showing off at all, they're just being themselves and making their music. They put a very high value on always making high quality performances that were as good or better than their studio takes
Lead Guitar - Alex Lifeson Bass, keyboard and vocals - Getty Lee Drums/percussion/song writer - the professor, Neal Peart Each individual member of this band is a master technician. Collectively they are one. They produce masterfully crafted, tight, crisp and technically sophisticated music. They are the best progressive rock band to have ever existed. Their skills are elite and they are highly respected and admired by their peers in the rock and roll genre. I had the honor and privilege to see Rush in concert in the summer of 1974. They were just beginning their first U.S. tour. They earned their way into the Rock-N-Roll H.O.F. because they were that special.
I hope you guys go farther down the Rush rabbit hole. 40 years of some of the most impeccable music ever. Three of the most humble, talented, and genuinely good people ever who happened to get together to make incredible music. Neil, the drummer, is (I still cannot bring myself to use the past tense for him; his death this past January still hurts) one of the most accomplished, talented, and classy drummers and lyricists to ever walk the Earth. He was the first famous person I ever looked up to, and he influenced me not only in my drumming, but in writing and how he carried himself as a person. Geddy and Alex are absolute Masters, and the way the three of them pulled everything off live is unmatched. Every sound you hear onstage, be it an instrument, an effect, or a sample, was triggered by one of them onstage. Whoever had a free hand, finger, or foot at any time. There are easily dozens of songs you must listen to, and any Rush fan will have their own priority. I highly recommend Natural Science, Animate, Neil's solo from Frankfurt, The Pass, La Villa Strangiato, The Garden, Tom Sawyer, Subdivisons....the list just goes on and on. If you feel like really diving in, go for the epics: 2112, Hemispheres, Xanadu, and beyond. I hope you really get to delve into them and discover why so many of us Rush fans have continued to pass the tradition of fandom down thru our families.
Such an amazing band. Saw them the first time in 1978. Fell in love with all of them. Revisited their shows 3 more times. Neil is no longer with us. The professor. R.I.P.
Without Rush and King Crimson there would be no Dream Theater, tool, and many others. If you want brilliant composition, song structure, Tempo changes, and seamless transitions, Rush is the band to listen to. Please react to Xanadu, exit stage left. Or another great instrumental La Villa strangiato.
Yes. This is what the greatest rock bassist of all time does. And the greatest rock drummer. And lead guitarist. You won't be disappointed if you go from front to back with this band. I promise.
"That bass player's insane............." Yeah. Geddy is a beast. I just started working on this song a few days ago on bass. I'm about half way through. I can do it, but I definitely need some finger recovery between runs. I feel like I'm using muscles my hands didn't even know they had..................... :D
All masters of their craft. I was fortunate to see them live several times....never a bad show. My all time favorite band of all time. So many more songs for you to react to of them.
Im in tears watching you guys react.. Im just so proud of Rush...they shaped my life....I own a music school today..Geddy Lee is still my hero after all these years. thx for loving on them :)
This concert was the first time in their career that they played in Rio. It packed a stadium, and the energy from the crowd amazed them. They said they were just floored by how the crowd reacted. And yeah, this instrumental is one of the ones they like to show off a bit. If you want to hear some great bass during an instrumental, check out the live version of "Leave that Thing Alone" from the 2011 Time Machine tour. Incredible musicianship from all of them, but the bass solo at the end is amazing!
Your insightful comments (like the joy in Alex's face during his solo) and the smiles on your faces.... literally made me tear up a bit, with a smile of my own.
When you are possibly the best in the world when you play you show off naturally. Rush is the best three musicians to ever make up a band to me personally. Masters at their craft. Great video as always.
YYZ is the airport code for Toronto's Lester B Pearson airport. The band would get excited when they saw YYZ on their luggage tags as it meant they were going home. The song is meant to evoke the hustle of an airport. Rush are also nerds. The intro rhythm is Morse code for YYZ. When the songs have lyrics, they also usually have multiple meanings too. Geddy Lee, the bassist, is also the keyboardist and often on stage would be playing bass, Taurus pedals and singing at the same time. Or playing keyboards, using the pedals for bass and singing. The percussionist, Neil Peart, wrote >95% of the lyrics while guitarist Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee wrote most of the music. 19 studio albums from 1974 to 2012. Toured until 2015. I would highly recommend one of their radio 'hits' (of which there really aren't too many for some odd reason) is Freewill and I would recommend the 2010 Time Machine version - they all flex in the breakdown section in the middle (have the lyrics available too)!
I was lucky enough to see Rush twice. The first time I saw them, they played their epic, "2112," in its entirety. They were three virtuoso musicians, the drummer was a genius lyricist, and their influence is huge. Dave Grohl has said he would have never been a drummer if not for Rush. Billy Corgan has said Rush was the best of the best in music. I always say Pink Floyd is my favorite group, but Rush is a very close second with Nightwish and Dream Theater being three and four. Incredible band, legends in every way, and if you're a musician, you need to listen to Rush, period.
I’m a fifty-something and get a huge kick seeing young people respond to the musicians I grew up with in my youth. Soak it in and appreciate the work that went into playing at a master level. I met G. Lee & A. Lifeson on their final tour and found them to be humble and fun.
Probably the best review of this specific song. She picked up on two of my favorite features of this performance. The fact that the audience is singing the instrumental melody..... and Alex rearing his head back during a solo..... showing his passion. Awesome review guys!
Puts a smile on my face every time I hear them be watching them in concert WOW!!!! Incredible all 3 got it going on!!!!! They were sure one to watch for years upon years of Amazement
These guys are the best. Ive seen them 139 times in concert since 1976. You guys have many many more Rush songs to enjoy. Start from their first album to the last. You wont be disappointed. They are the best band ever.
So here’s the thing. I love prog rock and listen to groups like Porcupine tree Yes Riverside Pineapple thief But I am soon to be 64 and Rush have been the ( musical) love of my life for 44 years and no matter what or who I’m listening too there will never be anyone who can compare to these 3 fantastic musicians and also 3 fantastic people ( RIP Neil ). Just simply awesome
Now when you hear the phrase "that was a total rush" you can put it into context. The weren't just one of the greatest Rock Bands of all time....they were a TOTAL RUSH!!!
In 1980 as a 13 yo boy saw them in Philadelphia. Changed my life. In 2015 saw them for the last time. Cried like a child for 3 musical deaths. Paul Grey, Chris Cornell and Neil Peart. Sad you never saw them live. Love the reactions!!
I miss seeing Rush live. Glad I got to, glad I got to take my son (a drummer) to his very first concert, Rush R40. These three guys who were Rush are a phenomena that I doubt will ever be equalled.
Hey, guys! I was in that amazing crowd! The show was in november 23, 2002, in Maracanã Stadium (the biggest soccer stadium in the world), Rio de Janeiro. One of the greatests shows in my life. The own Geddy Lee (bass, vocals) said that looked like having supporters in a soccer Fla X Flu game (between Flamengo and Fluminense, the most traditional match of Brazil). Check out other videos of shows in our country and you'll see more of this, and come here to see this 'in loco'. Thanks!
This is the first reaction to YYZ in Rio to point out the singalong from the crowd, which I find amazing. Your point that the crowd was an instrument is wonderful.
I used to buy concert tickets to see Rush and choose seats that would give me a clear line of sight to the drummer Neil Peart. It was an absolute privilege every time that I got that opportunity. Others have already said to react to Neil in Frankfurt. Do it.
First time in RIO ! DO YOU THINK THAT THEY WERE WAITING FOR RUSH TO COME OR WHAT!??? 3 PEOPLE...ON STAGE.. JUST 3 FRIGGIN PEOPLE! THE CROWD IS ABSOLUTELY CRAZY! THEY ARE YELLING THE MUSIC NOTES.. THE NOTES.. HOW AMAZING IS THAT!???
first reaction where someone noticed the fans jumping and joining in to the melody of the totally instrumental song. Your reactions are funny, but also heartfelt and often spot on. TYSM!
They are NOT showing off. Anyone who knows Rush knows they are the most humble group ever. It just looks like they're showing off because they are that good.
You know a show is epic when the crowd is "singing" a song that has no words LOL
Yes... Rush killed it here... But also, WELCOME TO BRAZIL....
HELLLLLLLLLLLL yes
Don't tell my Argentine friend, but Brazil has the best fans
That is what I call a song
I love it
You got it girl. They have been around since the late 19 70"s so i don't think their showing off as much as giving us what we are use too of them..
They're not showing off, this is what Rush do (did).
every performance I've seen is top quality musicianship...all the prominent bands from Canada seemed to be like this ..like..if they sucked just a little they didn't make it..

You said it all Francisco. I was there too and I "sang" along as well.
I have seen them 10 times in Canada. I would have loved to be at the Rio show. Brazil rocks.
They're not showing off sweetheart, that is the worlds greatest drummer, a top 5 all time bass player and a top ten of all time guitarist.
RIP NEAL PEART
His death stung me a little bit.
RIP Neil and also Chris Squire. Since Geddy Lee played with Yes at their Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction instead of Chris i now always think about them both 😢

Neil
Rest in peace, Professor. Your talent made the world a better place.

Simply amazing. Rest in Peace Neil Peart. Greatest rock drummer of all time. You are missed.
Yes. This is what the greatest rock bassist of all time does. And the greatest rock drummer. And lead guitarist. You won't be disappointed if you go from front to back with this band. I promise.
Glad to see someone finally notice the emotion alex(the most underrated guitarist of time) puts into all of his playing. He is the ultimate performer
"That bass player's insane............." Yeah. Geddy is a beast. I just started working on this song a few days ago on bass. I'm about half way through. I can do it, but I definitely need some finger recovery between runs. I feel like I'm using muscles my hands didn't even know they had..................... :D
You know Geddy Lee literally "Wrote the book on Bass Guitar". Bought it for my son for Christmas as he's learning bass.
"Working Man" by Rush (Time Machine Tour: Live In Cleveland) [OFFICIAL]
This!
ZerglilngVet ^this big time. When bands get older they slow down but Working man was nuts........Alex murdered his guitar in the Cleveland concert.
@@sqr2024 There is still an APB out for him after that show!
I don't think he murdered the guitar, the guitar is suing for child support!!
All masters of their craft. I was fortunate to see them live several times....never a bad show. My all time favorite band of all time. So many more songs for you to react to of them.
This is how you master a craft. Iv seen them live. Best concert I have been too and that was back in 06
don't believe they toured in '06. Maybe '07 for the Snakes and Arrows tour? before that '04 forthe 30th anniversary tour.
@@chiefbrody75 it was snakes and arrows. Lol I ballparked that. I was halfway through high school lol it was awhile ago. Badass show tho
It WAS a great show!
Man, Rush and Iron Maiden. Welcome to my youth! YYZed!!! Where are all my air drummers. RIP Neil Peart
Check out "Working Man" live in Cleveland. Shows them in their later years as a band, yet still kicking ass! Keep Rocking!✌🏼🤘🏼
Hope you guys do more Rush. Every song they have shows off their musicianship. You will be blown away.
THE BEST THERE EVER WAS
THE BEST THERE EVER IS
THE BEST THERE EVER WILL BE
The Excellence of musicianship!!!!
Neal, no doubt, I’m with you. The best!!
WOW
Just to show off a little more, the keyboard you heard in the beginning was being played by the bassist...with his feet.
They're not showing off, they're RUSH. They're incredible musicians!!!
That's the legendary Rush. A band that even at the end of their career could still attract crowds in the 10s of thousands.
The rush in Rio documentary is a must watch!!! Welcome to the rush rabbit hole...... greatest progressive band of all time!
2112 and the whole Hemispheres album were always my favorites from Rush nearly 40 years ago when i was like 16-20.
Phenomenal tune from the Great Rush ❤️☝️💫
Puts a smile on my face every time I hear them be watching them in concert WOW!!!! Incredible all 3 got it going on!!!!! They were sure one to watch for years upon years of Amazement
Geddy plays more than two instruments. He uses foot pedals plays bass keyboards sings and moves the microphone with his nose.
It's still crazy to realize they are a 3 piece band.
Crazy
YYZ is so awesome when the entire fucking crowd starts singing along to an instrumental! WHAT A RUSH!!! \m/
Here you have 3 of the single greatest masters of their craft. In one of the greatest bands of the last 40 years.
These guys are the best. Ive seen them 139 times in concert since 1976. You guys have many many more Rush songs to enjoy. Start from their first album to the last. You wont be disappointed. They are the best band ever.
So here’s the thing.
I love prog rock and listen to groups like
Porcupine tree
Yes
Riverside
Pineapple thief
But I am soon to be 64 and Rush have been the ( musical) love of my life for 44 years and no matter what or who I’m listening too there will never be anyone who can compare to these 3 fantastic musicians and also 3 fantastic people ( RIP Neil ).
You know you’re the 🐐 when the audience sings your instrumental to you! 🔥🤙
Facts!
Thanks!
Neal Peart was nicknamed The Professor! You have to react to his solo in Frankfurt Germany!
I miss seeing them live. It was ALWAYS a great show. They put 110% into their shows.
You two seemed to have as much joy watching that video as the fans had singing a song with no words. You literally smiled the entire time. 🤟
This is the first reaction to YYZ in Rio to point out the singalong from the crowd, which I find amazing. Your point that the crowd was an instrument is wonderful.
For Rush, it ain't showing off, it's just showing up.
Was this your first Rush experience?! If so....it’s the start of a long but great trip.
I saw them in concert 4 times, great concerts, RIP Neil, one of the greatest drummers in the world
Think about this : these guys were in their twenties when they wrote and played this music . Rush is THE standard that musicians aspire to .
NICE!!!!!! Always loved Rush.
Thank you! My favorite band and one of my favorite songs. Gives me chills to see your reaction
nearly every band today you two think are good can't hold a candle to the musical talent of Rush
people singing to an instrumental song!! Can't get any more badass than that!
One of my favorite from my childhood. Nice!
first reaction where someone noticed the fans jumping and joining in to the melody of the totally instrumental song. Your reactions are funny, but also heartfelt and often spot on. TYSM!
