    They sequestered themselves in a cabin in 1981, making Limelight there, and more.
    Most agree that the drummer, Neal Peart, is also a great lyricist and one of the best drummers ever. Alex Lifeson, the lead guitarist, is vastly underrated. Geddy Lee, bassist, keyboardist, lead vocalist, can play with anybody.
    Rush is the gold standard for Canadian Rock, and respected worldwide. Their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was YEARS overdue.

    My favorite band of all time. No joke, they helped cure my depression. A good friend of mine literally said "You aren't allowed to be sad when you're listening to RUSH".
    That stuck with me.
    And I was privileged enough to see them live on their Clockwork Angels tour in Dallas, TX.
    Alex, Geddy, and Neil are absolute masters of their craft. I can definitely say that RUSH fans are VERY devoted to the band.

      Darth Revan first concert I ever was the Hold Your Fire tour, I was 14. They were just as good every time I saw them after that. And you’re right, you can’t be sad listening to Rush.

    • @0okamino
      @0okamino 5 років тому +2

      Even when Rush songs are about very sad, upsetting subjects (for instance, _Red Sector A),_ they seem to always make it more reflective, contemplative in its emotion instead of just depressing.

    • @Vnachi8
      @Vnachi8 5 років тому +3

      Ookamino, Subdivisions is another example of that as well. Whereas a Pearl Jam attacked the same subject in Jeremy or P.O.D. in Youth Of A Nation, they did so in a very in your face, depressing way. Rush, in contrast, addressed it an a very poetic manner. Not lessening it’s impact, but turning it from blunt to art.

      Devoted might be an understatement for Rush fans.
      I first saw them on Signals tour in 1982. I was fifteen. I saw every tour after that to the end.
      I literally had tears running down my cheeks last tour hearing Jacob's Ladder played live for first and only time in my life. They are a part of my chemistry. I miss them but they sure earned their retirement. ✌

      J Gordon, you just ruined my day. I can’t believe for the life of me that I didn’t even consider SRV and Double Trouble. I can only use the excuse that SRV shined so bright, that he overshadowed Chris and Tommy, who themselves were outstanding musicians.

    I always love this era of Rush Videos.. or just the ones from Moving Pictures, where they are at Le Studio Morin Heights..the winter landscape and the grey blue look of dusk in Canada during the winter. Reminds me of riding the school bus home in the fading light, hearing this song or another Rush hit from this era, jump off the bus, then have to get my insulated winter coveralls on and go feed the cows as the dark finally enveloped me. then it was supper and either snowmobiling with buds or ride into town for hockey practice... not an easy adolecence growing up in rural Alberta, but I wouldnt have traded it for anything..and Rush made it that much better. Hope people just discovering these guys get a lifetime of enjoyment out of them too

    This was shot at the same studio where they recorded the album, Le Studio, outside Morin Heights, Quebec, Canada, which is fairly remote. The studio is sadly closed and abandoned now, but in its heyday a lot of classic albums got made there. Rumor has it that Steven Page, formerly of Barenaked Ladies, owns the mixing console now. The place had cabins on the grounds for the artists and crew to stay at, with cross country skiing in the winter and other outdoor things to do in the summer. Neil Peart, the drummer, has written often and fondly of the band's days spent recording several albums there. They were big believers in "getting away" to work, as you say, isolating themselves to focus on creating. Rural settings were quite agreeable to them.
    You should check out their "Limelight" and "Vital Signs" videos, both from the same album as "Tom Sawyer," and both shot at Le Studio, as well.

      It goes to show that by actually playing instruments they can cover up mistakes. I know they never made one all the times I saw them live.

      Absolutely. Especially with all the tempo changes in their songs. If you listen, even the simple sounding songs had some weird and constant time signature changes. RUSH is a band!!!

    Tom Sawyer was used as the theme for "Macgyver" in Brasil.

    This song and the album Moving pictures was recorded at a place call Le Studio (look at the wall in the video) in Morin Height in the Laurentian region north of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Other great bands like The Police recorded there in the ´80s. It’s close nowadays.

    Bought this album in 9th grade because I was fortunate enough to have radio play THIS. As a kid you hear the genius but make assumptions that all bands can be this good. I’m 53 now and still have this in my play list with a mix of music that held up over the past 40 years including new stuff. If your musical foundation is cemented with high-quality musicianship and lyrics that mean something, you a the rest of your life to appreciate what you’re given.
    Your reactions are heartfelt and you’re a wonderful young man for introducing many to greats songs from the past. If I could ask a favour, what would you recommend from your repertoire that will introduce me and the other middle-aged folks to something that has influenced you?
    Keep up the great vids - you’re a treasure!
    Peace from Canada
