Arguably 3 of the best musicians of their respected field, I love Rush to no end Thanks for covering them because very few people do so thank you for the respect.
The very first concert I ever went to was Rush. Through all of the years and all of the bands, they still were the best live act. Hands down. No contest.
Bro you are way latttteee! I was listning to Rush back in 1978!! Saw there first concert right after Van Halen performed back then! The Late Neil Peart blew everyone's ears out with the drumming alone. I own every album/cd they ever created!! and last saw them 7yrs ago here in LA and Neil Peart was still rocking 15.5 on the richtor scale drumming. I and my 2 older bros along with about 5 other brothers were the only black guys listning to them back then.
At 14, without ID in 1974, I saw them first at the Horseshoe Tavern with their “new” drummer, the late, great Neil Peart. How blessed to come up in the YYZ with RUSH, the soundtrack to my life. I’m thrilled my kids joined the party early in their youth and love seeing new folks discover them! No matter how late to the party, what a party it is!
I love watching someone listening to this kind of music for the first time and really UNDERSTANDING it. Rock isn't dead, maybe on hiatus, but not dead. The nuances in his playing make it an addictive listen.
not necessarily true, theres a video somewhere of alex smith missing a transition and neal peart catching him and correcting him with the beat.. its easy as hell to miss
Absolutely. Especially with all the tempo changes in their songs. If you listen, even the simple sounding songs had some weird and constant time signature changes. RUSH is a band!!!

@@matthewdrake4385 Official version formed in 1971 and concluded in 2015 the last night they were on stage. That's 44 years. Their first actual tour was in 1973. I'm not counting high school dances and local bar gigs as touring.
Mr Mordeus, where’s your sources? Their debut dropped in 1974. Their last live disc dropped last year. So even if you count that as their last official release, I could see how it could be 44 years.

They retired. They were on the road for 40 years. Two of the guys would probably keep playing. The drummer is really the guy who pulled the plug. He lost his wife and child in a horrible accident and spent a year driving his motorcycle around Canada,Mexico and the USA. You should read the book that deals with that journey.
Yes he once said that it’s very difficult to play (which it is!) but when he plays it well it always makes him feel good because it’s so hard to play well.
I am sad that you never dug deep enough in rock, or metal, to see real music is still played and more bands doing it than ever. Blame mainstream media for pushing it underground in favor of simple money making pop but thanks to hundreds of channels, forums, and places like bandcamp catering heavy to rock/metal music you just have not been paying attention.
That song is from the youth of every Canadian kid who grew up in the 1980s. Heard them play it live in the nation's capital on their last album tour. Tom Sawyer was the finale and it was utterly surreal.

This was shot at the same studio where they recorded the album, Le Studio, outside Morin Heights, Quebec, Canada, which is fairly remote. The studio is sadly closed and abandoned now, but in its heyday a lot of classic albums got made there. Rumor has it that Steven Page, formerly of Barenaked Ladies, owns the mixing console now. The place had cabins on the grounds for the artists and crew to stay at, with cross country skiing in the winter and other outdoor things to do in the summer. Neil Peart, the drummer, has written often and fondly of the band's days spent recording several albums there. They were big believers in "getting away" to work, as you say, isolating themselves to focus on creating. Rural settings were quite agreeable to them. You should check out their "Limelight" and "Vital Signs" videos, both from the same album as "Tom Sawyer," and both shot at Le Studio, as well.
I feel you're very honest in your reviews and I've enjoyed watching you discover rock. Not only do you appreciate the "voice" of a group... The instruments too. Fun watching a true music lover dig into music you've never known.
@@jamelakajamal that's amazing...truly. I'm a little different. I've listened to everything from folk music to rap and everything in between. And what you're discovering like I did is... They've been my favorite band for over 40 years. People in the biz know, but the general public has never realized just how great Alex Lifeson is. St-Sauveur, Québec Canada is where they recorded this song and lots of their older songs. The Studio has burnt down since. Thanks for the reaction my friend. Please go for The "Garden".
Yeah. What's with that? LOL. One guy writing music, playing two keyboards, bass guitar, Taurus pedals and singing. I love the online comparison someone made of Geddy Lee on stage and someone boasting about sampling and making their own beats.
The reason they retired a few years ago was only because Neil Peart has physcial health issues that prevent him from playing Rush material, which requires a different level of physical fitness! Neil himself said if he were playing Charlie Watts drums keeping the beat for the Rolling Stones, he could play forever! lol Peart has not just retired from the band, but retired from drumming altogether! I have no doubt though, that we will hear new material from Geddy and Alex in the future. Alex also has some arthritis he deals with but he can still do it!
I recall Alex also mentioning in some article or interview that he was tired of being in a band at this point. Geddy has said of himself that he's not done, and even if it's not with Rush, he plans to keep making music.
This is filmed at LeStudio in Canada. A place where a lot of awesome albums were made. Unfortunately it’s in disrepair and been vandalized but some guys are trying to restore it for a couple years.

Le Studeo in Morin Hts. Quebec where they recorded their album "Moving Pictures". RIP Neil Peart, a true legend and great man. 😥

Police and many others - April Wine - recorded there.
Jamal probably has one of the most sincere reactions and honest evaluations I've ever seen. RUSH was awesome and the world is a better place because of them. RIP Professor 💝
Dang, you're doing Rush?!? That's so cool. Geddy Lee is why I started playing the bass in Jr. High.
You have to give Subdivisions a reaction, please.
Ted Harvick - ditto, every word. 🤘🏻🤓
And Limelight!
And "Red Barchetta"
O man i love subdivisions
To me their one greatest song. Been trying to get it on drums for two years now. Got about 80% but Neil is so lightning fast and automatic that that's about all I'll get.
A legendary band no other like “RUSH”
Been listening to this tune for nearly 40 years and I ain't got bored of it yet.
You got a lot of RUSH to keep you busy for a long time 😀
Neil man. Wow. This song never ceases to amaze me every time I hear it. How can someone be so Rock solid and busy at the same time ? Yet NEVER overplay ? His parts are so well constructed it’s just ridiculous. All I have to do to be re-inspired to play drums again is listen to this song.
Morin Heights, Quebec, Canada. Le Studio. Beautiful all year in these skiing mountains

Agreed, but that's a deep cut. Start with the more pop RUSH.
Watch the video, it will help understand the song. And it id just plain cool.

Back in the day when rock groups were rock groups and musicians were musicians. I'm so glad I lived through that era. :-)
I really like how you do 4 songs in a row. Hate when I see a reaction channel do their first listen to a legendary band and pick some odd song that doesn't represent their sound. You get so much more out of it.

He did it in the perfect way too. First two were lyric videos, next one he got to see them and then Live.
Should wrap it up with the Subdivisions video.
Great Canadian artists!
Geddy Lee is one of the best bassists in rock with a great voice. Neil Peart is definitely top3 best drummers and Alex Lifeson is a fantastic guitarist who should be high up on all the best rock guitarists list
Some of the movies that have used this song include The Waterboy (1998), Halloween (2007), and I Love You, Man (2009). TV shows include Freaks and Geeks (2000), The Sopranos (2007), Chuck (2008), and Fringe (2010). Also the entrance song for a few wrestlers.
Please add 'Red Barchetta' to this Rush review.
Water boy👍🏾
'Red Barchetta' is awesome, and I also suggest 'Red Sector A', 'The Trees', 'Nobody's Hero', 'Freewill', and 'La Villa Strangiato' (Live in Rio is my favorite version)
The drum kit in the garage on Freaks and Geeks. Reminded me of my musician friends in 1980...

"No his mind is not for rent, from any god or government " literally the best line ever spoken in a song ever
Keith Rose Other Rush songs (Freewill, Hemispheres, The Pass, Entre Nous, Limelight, and LOSING IT) would beg to differ!
You can choose to not decide, but you still have made a choice
I’d also say “he’s old enough to choose what’s right, but young enough not to choose it” is pretty awesome too😬
I like glittering prizes endless compromises etc. Myself

These Canadians Rock - awesome watching someone experience them
I love watching someone listening to this kind of music for the first time and really UNDERSTANDING it. Rock isn't dead, maybe on hiatus, but not dead. The nuances in his playing make it an addictive listen.
That song is from the movie “I LOVE YOU MAN”
Why couldn't those snot bags in the movie should have died not Neil
Slap the base man. LOL
They 're at the defunct Le Studio in Morin Heigths, Québec, Canada.
Just think Jamal, Rush made those same musical transitions LIVE. And never missed a beat.
not necessarily true, theres a video somewhere of alex smith missing a transition and neal peart catching him and correcting him with the beat.. its easy as hell to miss
It goes to show that by actually playing instruments they can cover up mistakes. I know they never made one all the times I saw them live.
@@johnnyriverarodriguez5283 i just love how in sync they were with each other that they could do that
Absolutely. Especially with all the tempo changes in their songs. If you listen, even the simple sounding songs had some weird and constant time signature changes. RUSH is a band!!!

After 50 years Rush finally hung up the instruments. No more touring. There induction to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame was long overdue and one of the best inductions ever.
Blah blah blah says Alex Lifeson.
Rush toured for 42 years, not 50. They were a band for 44 years.
Formed in 1968 broke up in 2018 per Wikipedia. That’s 50 years.
The are at a recording studio in Morin Heights, Quebec, Canada where they recorded this album. I used to work there!

What's crazy is that their sound quality live is just as clean. Mind meltingly good.

The tightest most professional concert musicians I've ever seen. Also my ringtone! Rock & Roll!!!
I think Neal Peart has said this is one of the most difficult songs he has ever drummed to.
Yup, he created a monster to play live! Most underrated band of all time!
Yes he once said that it’s very difficult to play (which it is!) but when he plays it well it always makes him feel good because it’s so hard to play well.
Back when you Actually had the play an instrument to make music.
@@robr135 Well said. I just wish more real music from amazing artists was played on the radio. It seems video did indeed kill the radio star.

Check out Peart with his drums on a raft floating around in the water in the country wow had the concert program with that pic simply awesome
