Meh, I enjoy that version of 2112 but I don't think it needs to be the first version heard. I didn't come across the graphic art version until about 6 months ago, but I had similar images running through my head since I first heard it. The lyrics tell the story without the need for the images. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the images, but the studio version is just fine without them.
I just saw a great story today about how Robert Plant and Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin helped Neil Peart through his time of losing his daughter and wife. I personally fell in love with the YYZ version from their next album, Exit Stage Left, which was their second live album. This has the amazing drum solo by Neil Peart.
Are you sure? In an interview or article around that time, Neil said it was a Chinese cymbal that he paid $10k for (a lot of money back then). He took it on the MP tour and broke it. By the time ESL came out (near the end of the tour) he substitutes 3 hits on a more traditional cymbal
Haha 61 here from Buffalo NY area. I first heard A Farewell To Kings and from there no band could touch them. Greatest band ever!! Thank you Rush. RIP Neil, you are so missed.
Having grown up with Rush, they were a part of every stage of my life ... and now, as I approach the end, my thoughts often return to the first song I'd heard from them (The Fountain) as well as the last one they recorded (The Garden) and appreciate the message even more.
Welcome to my childhood and formative years. Keep going down the rabbit hole, they will change your musical life. Every song tells a story, dig deep and enjoy.
Your reaction 😂 from the jaw drop at the beginning, the looks on your face throughout and the few choice words ( all that was needed ) was fun to watch. Another great reaction Rosalie Elliot. Also as others have suggested, the live in Rio version is something to behold.
This song reminds me of a tight F1 road race where each member is driving the hell out of their machine, working through the gears and weaving in and out of traffic.
Another amazing subliminal aspect of this song is the changing styles within the song, like Alexs solo that sounds middle eastern, and its because airports have people from all over the world going through them..coming and going..so the song has different feels to it as a result. Thats the brilliance of Rush. Their music can be taken for just the music itself..or it can be interpreted in an emotionally connected way. When you listen to Neils lyrics they tell a story that you get sucked into. The Trees..a song about oak and maple trees fighting over sunlight is far deeper on a social level than as just a song.
The first time I saw RUSH was around 1977 sometime after the release of fly by night, I had not heard of them, they were one of the two opening acts. Being a aspiring young drummer I was floored. I think they opened for Billy Squire I was a fan of the band he was in earlier named Piper

Love your HUMBLE, freckled face!❤ I'm shook every time I remember that this is a three-piece band. Every member is a master of their craft and the shadows they cast tend to block out the sun at times. With legends like Peart and Lee, the wizard that is most often overlooked is Alex Lifeson. It's so easy to feel humbled by these GIANTS. Their collective genius is ... MIND-BLOWING...AY O❤
Also keep in mind something about these guys is that they were very imaginative and creative and didn't have restrictions or limits about music and their music. All of them were self taught as teenagers and came together as friends (Alex and Geddy) with the desire to play to a standard as their mentors (example Genesis and Yes). So when Neil came along, they had someone to grow with musically without any limits, all creative to do what they loved and wanted too. They made the music they loved, regardless of the pressure to be commercial :)
Oh Rosalie, you are so awesome! I love the way you freely expressed the feelings I've had for decades but couldn't put words to. Yes, I feel small. I've always wanted to experience doing anything as well as RUSH does music and I just haven't found that thing. Well done, sister.
Watching you listening to this almost brought tears to my eyes. I remember seeing this live for the first time in 1981 in Buffalo....THIS IS THE GREATEST BAND OF ALL TIME
Not going to lie, when i saw one of my favorite reactors posted a new reaction i had goosebumps. You listen to RUSH and get it. There is music and then there is RUSH.
Probably my favorite Rush song. It's like the nerdiest kind of math rock, but in the grooviest way. The synchronicity of the band members is off the charts. This kind of musicianship is getting rarer by the day, outside of the classical realm. The number of new songs being released that are even close to this are miniscule.
This is a song of emotions. The feeling of elation knowing the tour is over , and your mins. from home.. feelings of longing , joy , and much needed relaxation. ✌️
I like listening to this album, and any Rush, while skiing. I've been skiing for over 60 years and never just cruise, but ski full throttle, so Rush is perfect.
You hit it right! How can you feel adequate in life after hearing such work!? How do you start composing it and playing it to the ears satisfaction. A beautiful math solution in music form!
I am so happy that your doing these albums and listening and reacting to the art of the past that made music what it is. I grew up with this music and it was all around it seemed like everyone was listening to it and it was part of what we had in common. This kind of music will not ever be made again and its a shame because it really was art. As always your ride or die forever Eyyyy Oooo thanks for another ride into my childhood
Rush showing off by just being Rush. It blew my mind too the first time I heard it. Through head phones on 11, off the FM radio station playing the whole album at midnight in Tucson AZ in 1981.
If you watch the Live in Rio version, the Crowd is SINGING to an instrumental.

The fact that the audience was singing blew Rush’s minds

I'm shook every time I remember that this is a three-piece band.
I was listening to this band in the early 80’s and it was regular for us!! Many people missed out
I love YYZ: it's a Prog Jazz Fusion Extravaganza! Rush on top of their game
Great song Awesome reaction...thanks you so much...Todd from Ohio
Oh Rosalie, you are so awesome! I love the way you freely expressed the feelings I've had for decades but couldn't put words to. Yes, I feel small. I've always wanted to experience doing anything as well as RUSH does music and I just haven't found that thing. Well done, sister.
For me - Moving Pictures is one of the rare albums I can listen to all the way through and not be bored or disappointed.
Watching you listening to this almost brought tears to my eyes. I remember seeing this live for the first time in 1981 in Buffalo....THIS IS THE GREATEST BAND OF ALL TIME
Can't wait till you hear Witch Hunt. ❤
Yes. I cant wait for her psychological/sociological anslysis of the lyrics!
Not going to lie, when i saw one of my favorite reactors posted a new reaction i had goosebumps. You listen to RUSH and get it. There is music and then there is RUSH.
YYZ is the airport code for the Toronto airport(all airports have a 3 letter code), and that is where they wrote this song
Listening is amazing, watching them play this live is MIND BLOWING. 1 guitar, 1 bass and 1 inhuman drummer.
One of the best description of my favorite band ( I saw them live in My hometown of Toronto) of all time
I love your comments. Rush definitely is art at an outstanding level. Music geniuses.
Oh and Exit stage left is the best version. With a 7 min. drum solo !!!
I am so happy that you listened to the entire song before stopping the music and commenting. I got goosebumps throughout the whole piece.
Rush showing off by just being Rush. It blew my mind too the first time I heard it. Through head phones on 11, off the FM radio station playing the whole album at midnight in Tucson AZ in 1981.
lol
Your reaction was priceless. Forget the notes and time. Rush took you on a musical “experience “
