Hello Nina! I found myself trying to help you pulling the FDK out of its pot! 😂 then I wanted to hold the bulbs to facilitate the wrapping of the wire! 😜 talk about immersion tv! Well you have me thinking 🤔 oooh what a dangerous Thang! 🤣🤣 My FDK After Dark needs "dealt" with. Mine is off whack with seasons. It just recently bloomed. It's now dormant but just. But maybe whacking it can get it to get back on track. Also thinking of self watering for one. Definitely impressed with your bulb sizes. Might be cool experiment. 😎

Hi Robert 😍💐. thank youuuuu!!! 🙌🏼🤸🏼♀️🙌🏼🙏🏼 so much! I should stop mentioning it actually. I hear so much, that I dread going to edit... and then when I use the sound block filter, it disappears for the most part... in some videos I have even edited out me apologizing, because there was nothing to hear. In this case, I could not because my hands were moving around in the shot and the cut would have looked really weird (suspicious in fact, as if I had hidden something questionable 😬) today I managed to film a little video ... my patio is orange! Sahara sand was dumped on the coast, along with the rain and everything is orange. The sky today, it never even got to a decent daylight... and yes, you guessed it... orange! The patio is a mess and as much as I cannot wait to clean it up, temps around the 55ºF range are not exactly an invitation to be playing around with the hose. I have the pups bring in orange footprints as well 🤪 schlooooowwwleeeey loooozzzing my mind here! 🤪 really appreciate you sharing the video, and also stopping by for a look see, and leaving me a comment! I hope you are basking in beautiful sunshine (not jelly! NOPE!) 😆 🌸
@@NinjaOrchids Oh Lordy!!! Wish we'd get some of your rain as we are now heading to rationing up here in my neck of the woods. Maybe just put on an orange filter to your camera and the sand/dust may not show... 🤣 I just vacuumed my place, only a 2 bedroom apartment, and the amount of dust here is overwhelming!! I'm running 5 HEPA filters plus a special filter for central heat/air, which I have yet to change to today. I'm amazed how much dust and stuff we get now after all the fires, plus we are an agricultural grow area, and with Chico State University in the middle of town it seems the dust never ends. 😵 Hang in there Nina, things have got to improve.... 🤞

🦒🙋♀️🙌💖☔💧💧 That was very impressive!!! They are massive, those bulbs, so fat and chubby 💪 Unlike Shania Twaine, they impress me much 😂🤣 . Amazing skills too, not an easy job and yet you made it look so easy. Still raining or cloudy over this side. What about you? Some sun over the weekend, maybe? It would be nice for a day or two before the rain goes on. Very upsetting day yesterday but it turned out ok. My husband went to Lisbon for some analysis and RX due to pain on his knee, turns out they spotted a blood clot in a leg vein on the verge of getting a thrombosis. He was held at hospital for the whole day, doctors trying to figure it out, whether it was the case for imediate surgery. Finally, late at night, they let him go with oral treatment for the time being. I did not go with him, though. I had to stay home, can't walk straight, my hip is hurting a lot so at least I was not subjected to having to wait for him in the car or waiting room all day long. Getting older sucks 😕, sometimes I feel like a bloom getting spent🤣. Wishing you a comfortable and cosy day as much as possible, with much love to you and yours 💖🤗🥰

It has grown really well in the past years, and I am glad that during a weather break that I could film this. I have to tell you that we are having the weirdest sky. It rained hard all night, and only just now it stopped. 13ºC but the overcast sky is orange! There is no way that is the sun coming through because the cloud cover is so thick! It has the same color as when we had the fire last summer. Trust me, there is no fire here now 🤔 it looks very weird! I hope that all will be ok with what they sent him home with. Hmm, someone is going to be spending hours with a toothbrush and pieces of leca. And you got to use the velcro tape. Seems like it was a good day. This guy repotted all of his Catasetinae a while ago because there was a lot of them to do and he wanted to get it done before it was too late. He didn't bother cutting all of the old roots, though. The ones from two years ago came off, last years stayed on. Con of it before new growth starts, they always seem to pop out opposite of where you want them to. Pros of doing it before new growth starts, no chance of breaking new growth or new roots.
So iricolor opened its blooms today. Todd is right, they smell like plastic. I thought it was supposed to smell good. Moral of the story, the blooms are pretty and interesting but they leave something to be desired.
Don Miguel 🥰💐 hola jefe! That is exactly what I will be doing today, while I still have some daylight in the kitchen. Thought it would be a great task for a rainy day, which it is! It chucked down water like crazy all night. Incredible. And, we only have 13ºC today. It just stopped raining for a stint, but of course, under these conditions, I do not stand a chance for the fuse to hold. And... the forecast continues along these lines for another week! It is so dark in the grow space that my fastuosa is fragrant during the day 😫😫 I am at that point, like last year... 'I can't do this anymore!' What a nightmare! The sky has an apocalyptic vibe to it as well. It is orange... not because of the sun, but it looks like when we had the fire last summer. Orange!! wth?? I think today is a day that I may just do a story video, take my head to a happy place. I have resorted to potting up my catasetinae in the centre of the pot. And I will do that with other orchids as well, in future. no worries where they grow out from then 😅 I am sorry to hear that you confirm what Todd said when he first described the fragrance of the iricolor. Well, that is a lead balloon effect... maybe just because it is the first time to bloom in it's new climate? I mean... maybe there is hope? Or, would you say that images of the blooms make the bloom look nicer and more desirable than it really is? I have heard that it is supposed to be a very attractive and intense fragrance, which adds to the desirability of this orchid 🤨 que strange! Oh well... if mine makes it to the point of blooming one day, then, I hope to be around to put my opinion in the basket. 😅 thank you so much for watching, Michael! @@NinjaOrchids yes, Chadwick writes that the fragrance is even more powerful than dowiana and very floral. Well, I was just outside and it isn't powerful nor floral. I shall wait and see what it does over the next couple of days and see if it changes.

On another note, Ecuagenera sent me a massive Brassia Rex about a year ago (didn't pay for it, it was just in the box). Now that plant had 5 growths capable of blooming. I noticed that it is spiking. Guess how many spikes there are. I'll give you a hint, it is a number between 0 and 2. I mean, it is nice that it is going to bloom, but c'mon.
I would love to do half and half!! A fraction of your high temps to add to my low ones, and ¾ of the quantity of rain ... for you! No river outside yet. I have been keeping an eye out for that. But, the patio looks like a mud bath happened. I have the Sahara sand covering everything that was white, you cannot see the grout of the terracotta and the pups are bringing in orange paw prints... I am schlowly loozzzingg my mind!
ONE spike? You are kidding! I am going to ask the obvious... is it a spike in it's early stages? Maybe there are more to come, but they are not big enough to peak through yet. Happened with my Masai Red... I thought I would only get 3 spikes this year and then more and more started coming up, and they are later to open now as well. The orchids outside are taking a beating with all the rain. The best flushed pots in my collection 😅
Hi Nina🌸 your video is just in time - i received my freadclarkara🌸 but i have doughts now about repotting mine. It comes with new growth much bigger then you have on your orchid and it have alredy 4 small leaves and new roots like 5cm. And she arrived very wet. Pot very small and inside not nuch medium, bigger part of pot volume takes plastic pebbles. So what i should do with her? Just put her in bigger pot with all roots and medium that she have now and add just new medium all around? I send you a picture how she looks like. And also she is quite small, not like yours...but i bought her as blooming size😥
Hi Amina 😍💐 let your pot dry out, first of all! Then, you are right.... remove the orchid from the pot, remove as much of the old moss that you can without doing any damage to the new roots, and pot it up in a larger pot. If you cannot remove the old media without possibly doing damage to the new roots, then leave that in tact for now and just do an uppot. But do not water anymore. Let the new growth get to a size without shrivelling any of the back bulbs. There is energy back there which the orchid will use, but not to the point of having the back bulbs shrivel too much. But, let that pot dry out. I did not get your email, but, don't worry about sending it again. I believe I have a good impression of what you are talking about. I hope this confirms what you already thought of doing 😊 I am having trouble with the internet atm, because of my conditions outside. So... the email is probably lost in cyber land! If the roots are 5cm long, then let the growth and roots double in size. If any of the back bulbs start to shrivel a little then water from below, not from the top. The back bulbs will recover. Just because back bulbs start to shrivel, it does not mean that they are dying off. But, it is best for the new growth to double in size, as well as the roots! 👍🏼

Isn't it fun to see new growths coming on the After Dark? I LOVE it! I have a video on how to train the growths of orchids which may be of interest. It is a very old one, but here is the link ua-cam.com/video/o9jb0jHV_QI/v-deo.html with the time stamps where I am addressing my catasetinae example 16:38 if you would like to check that video out, jump to the timestamp, then you can compare what your growth is doing and the direction of light, also how you want it to grow in the pot. If you see that the video did not address your question 100%, I would need to have more detail as to how your new growth is facing and what you would like it to do as it gets bigger. ie. does your pot still have plenty of space? do you plan on repotting when it goes dormant again, etc etc. Looking forward to hearing from you! 🫶🏼 meanwhile, I hope that you had a wonderful day and once again, welcome 🥰🌸
