    I could hear that orchid gasping for air when you pulled it out of its pot! It will love you for saving it!

    This was very helpful my black pearl goes through stages of dormancy one week the leaves are green then the next week they are yellow based on how you have clean it I think mines need a good cleaning I didn’t catch the name of the “beads” that you used to repot the plant in.

    Why was I never taught to put cinnamon as an antiseptic to clipped portions of orchids before? This is very new to me, and heck beats getting your hands exposed to harsher antiseptic solutions, with a sweet bonus of smelling cinnamony as well.

    Thanks for sharing. I'm always amazed at the condition some nurseries will ship a plant. I recently received a max. that had a root system that was completely rotting out, and it followed all the way up through the crown. You know they know when it's packed, just most people aren't plant nerds and won't catch it. It's really messed up because it can cost the hobby a hobbyist, because an amateur will think it's their fault. How's the catasetum doing now?

    Hi, why did you use hydrogen peroxide for roots and soapy water for leafs? I've never seen this before and I'm curious because I have a fredclarkeara too. Also what are the water ratios that you used?

    The other 2 bulbs that have black around the base may be rot. You may want to remove those to be safe.

      I’ve been going back and forth, they truly don’t seem rotted! But that said, I prefer to be safe and not sorry: I’m considering “dividing” the Black bulbs and potting them separately. If they’re not rotted, they’ll sprout new growth after dormancy. If they are, they’ll just die. But at least they’d be separate...

    I have to ask, how did it turn out 3 years later? I think mine might have to be repotted so I’m very curious...

    Hello, I am new to the Orchid world and trying to learn all I can. I was just given a FDK Black orchid. Like I mentioned I am new to this. Was hoping to be able to send you a picture of it but was not able to. I was told to leave it in a semi dark place til I see new roots growing then plant in orchid mix with peralite very little water then not to water for a couple of months or when I see some growth.
    Is there anything else I can do? I did notice you planted yours in semi-hydroponic pebbles would that be ok for this?
    Needing Help!

    I would give up a blooming season as long as it lives . Your roots were amazing , mine so fine .
    % hypoxy stuff ? Bottom drainage holes ? Good luck with the 2 tired bulbs , would have left them too, not optimistic . That new bulb is just lovely . And maybe a new growth at the base . And :-) plant away from the growing centre :-) For me , in general , the lieca balls ? are not really an option . Have just potted 4 of these recently , have some 'pileatums' ? as well . Have not done well with them in the past . Trying coco husk with a little fine ..very fine bark , strangely the drainage is good . Have to get it right some time , had clones of Grand Champ Sg World show Jumbo Puff , and others :-) And especially this one are not the least expensive plants around ! $30-$40 here for your plant . .
    You asked for comments :-)
    The Fred clarkes are all moved , moving outside .
    I have a lot of really nice plants and am looking for any info .
    I got into orchids , because they were not flowering .
    Been a downhill path ever since , the more you think you know , then realise , know so little , still fun .
    As long as they live , they can flower :-)
    See you in Taiwan 2020 :-)

    I noticed the stippled leaves on your unboxing and again here. Keep a sharp eye out for pests on this plant. And I’m in the black bulbs = rot camp.

    The Fred Clarks like "tight feet" so it's not uncommon for them to be root bound. It looks like a great plant though!

      I’ve heard! I’m fairly certain a lot of those tight feet were dead...if you had smelled it, you would agree! 🤢

    Is orchiata a good choice for repotting...

    • @fabiozanotto2975
      @fabiozanotto2975 5 років тому

      I use orchiata, coal and sphagnum for the repotting.... And since the new growth will be at least 7 or 8 centimeter then watering 2 times x day and fertilizer 3 times a week at full dose.....

    I'm so sorry if you have been asked this question a million times, is there a particular place you prefer to buy your vases from?

    • @melanierice3034
      @melanierice3034 7 років тому +1

      410Banana I asked him that question a while back. I bought loads of them at Goodwill. You can literally buy the for 50 cents and a dollar. Most of them come from florists and / or part of flower arrangements and people discard them. I've gotten some really pretty ones too! 😁

      410Banana you're very welcome! Also, a lot of times they will be dingy and dirty, so I put them in the dishwasher and washed them on the sanitize setting. Cleaned and sanitized, all in one! Makes life a little easier! 😊

      You’re fine, no apologies needed! I prefer to thrift my vases. It’s more cost effective (usually 2-3 dollars) and more sustainable!

      Michael's Orchids that's fabulous! It's also cool to have a unique vessel for each orchid. I love your style. Best to get less expensive vases and spend the money on orchids hehe. Have a great evening!

    I would definitely cut off those 2 black bulbs. They are rotted and may continue to stress the plant. Good luck!

    I would cut those black bulbs off they should not be that color and cut back until you see healthy tissue

    • @MichaelsOrchids
      @MichaelsOrchids  7 років тому +2

      I was wondering! I read up online and got a lot of mixed feedback...I’m considering “dividing” the black bulbs and repotting. If there’s anything left inside of them, maybe they’ll sprout new growth after dormancy...and if they don’t, at least they’ll have been separated from the healthy growths

    • @fificorina
      @fificorina 7 років тому

      I agree with Andrew, those 2 back bulbs that are turning black are rotting and they will not produce any new growths, they might even harm the healthy bulbs but at the end is your plant and your call, the new growth looks good and I am sure will grow more roots soon.

    • @fificorina
