- Does high mileage equal an inferior Porsche 911, Cayman or Boxster? With years experience inspecting, buying and selling these Porsche models, I explore the issue in detail in this video.
Welcome to Diary of a Porsche Specialist! This is the fifty-third episode in a regular series of VLOG diaries of running a Porsche Specialist car dealership in the UK by me, Raj, owner of M R Sportscars Porsche Specialist in Hertfordshire.

I prefer a car to have been used and well maintained rather than a garage queen
All cars last better when they are used regularly. I had a conversation with a taxi driver about his Toyota that had over 250,000 miles on and was still on the original exhaust! He explained that his car never stood still long enough for moisture to collect in the exhaust, so it never rusted.
Thanks! In my opinion it is the best approach to car ownership! Raj
Thanks Tony, great insight there from a regular professional driver. Raj
When I was shopping two years ago for a 981 BS I was looking for a lower milage car but stumbled on a one owner 2013 that had a few miles over 100K, It had every service done on schedule at the same Porsche dealership he bought it from.
Its now at 106K miles and I've put in a new battery, changed the oil and am about due for some new tires.
Love this car and I don't feel guilty putting as many top down miles on it as I can !
That's the spirit! Enjoy it! Raj
Provenance is more important to me personally, in fact the higher the mileage the better the drive if we’ll maintained, so I concur. Thanks Raj
Thanks CK, appreciate your comments about this, Raj
I sold my B5 RS4 with 220k miles and was tuned to 496bhp ! Was well maintained
Love the blue 997 ❤
Thanks Carl, German high performance cars do last well with the right maintenance in general I think. Cheers, Raj
100% agreed on all points......I also think that driving style matters, as one should avoid carbon build up. I will drive every trip with the 981 GTS over 20 miles minimum (for shorter trips, I use my trusted and cheap but good Elantra GT sport 1.6 Turbo). After start up, I will drive immediately but with very low RPMs (under 2,000 rpm) in every gear until oil reaches 90 degrees celcius or 190 degrees Fahrenheit). When the oil reached its stable driving temperature above this limit, I will drive high to full RPM to let the engine freely rev in lower gears and cruise at about 3.500 to 4,000 rpm. Do you agree that such driving will be good for the engine?
Thanks Uwe, I agree with your driving behaviour as being best, idling for a prolonged period to warm up seems to just build up moisture and not allow the oil to properly heat up, just the coolant to come up to temperature. Thanks, Raj
That's how you supposed to treat the engine. Warming up the engine oil to operating temp, at low rpm., is detrimental to the engine's health.
Great video as always Raj! You have a lovely collection there! Do these cars, specifically the 981, suffer much from corrosion from salt on the roads? What do you suggest for preventative maintenance when used in the winter? Cheers
Thanks Scott! I haven't seen much corrosion on the 981s or 991s, other than lower suspension and exhaust components, which are easily replaced. ACF50 is a good anti corrosion spray you can apply in the autumn. I think regular cleaning of salt from the arches and body is the best real world prevention. Thanks, Raj
Get one with 111 Point Check and Approved Warranty, should be no issue. I start looking for one coming next year - 991.1 4S Convertible or Coupe don't matter. Own a 2001 986 which I am going to keep.
Good luck with your search in time!
I seen a Panamera 4s 90kmiles for like $400/mo is it worth it i can afford $400/month easy peezy but im scared for any hidden repairs i gotta do- the dealership says the inspect the car but idk i dont really drive to work or anything just tryin get something nice
Worth seeking advice from a Porsche specialist in your area to inspect the car prior to purchase. Good luck! Raj
