Great video, my cayman 2008 is at 215k purchase at 135k replaced water pump belts and fluids a very reliable car clutch and flywheel $600 in parts at 175k I love my cayman
Nice! How is the car running now?
Great points and info. The most scary thing I worry about is bore scoring and needing a full rebuild. Pay for the bore scoping during inspection and hope for the best. You can do your own research on this topic but I am doing these things: Oil change every 12 months regardless of mileage, don't allow the car to idle cold, stay above 2k rpm and below 3k rpm when cold, avoid using the car near freezing temperatures, closely inspect oil filter at changes. I'll also be adding a magnetic drain plug and considering oil analysis once a year. My Cayman S at 37k miles has no ticks at all aside from injectors and consumes no oil between changes so fingers crossed it stays this way for a long time.
Great video Nathan. I bought my 2006 Cayman S at just over 100k miles. I was immediately impressed by how clean it was underneath (I live in the U.K.) and how well engineered the car is.
Keep up the good work!
I'm 8,000 miles away from 100,000 K on a 987.1 and I can confirm it's time for new control arms, brakes, and tires.
the first thing people ask when i tell them i drive a cayman/porsche is "damn whats your maintainence like?" i always have to explain to them that it isnt that bad especially when doing basic stuff yourself (oil change, filters, brakes, spark plugs, random button failures)
You kinda putting my mind at rest fella... great informative videos, keep them coming.
This is all good to know. I think I’ll consider one.
Two of my hooker friends Love these cars. they told last nt when they picked me up.
Great Vid as always! enjoyed it. walk-arounds are good stuff
Brooooooo........what the fuck 🤣🤣🤣
2 hooker friends still cost way less than a wife. You sir are saving like a boss.
Thank you. This is the best video I've seen on this topic so far. I assume $3,000 for parts only? How much additional for labor if I was not mechanically inclined?
I just hit 100,000 miles in mine a few days ago
Congrats buddy!
@@evano8312 Thank you!
Loving the Porsche content
Awesome video! You've eased my mind. Think I'm gonna pull the trigger on an 06 CS
Great professional advice.
One question are you saying not to be afraid of all 987's or just the Cayman?
Any comments on a 987.2 base stick? Gonna check one out this week.
I want to pressure wash the underside and suspension of my car, what are the things to look out for?
Again another excellent informative video Nathan ...keep up the good work...
Check the coolant pipes.
You are the best ...
Loved this video, would you mind making a written note about everything you described here it’s a little difficult to follow just listening to the video.
Very infromative video! Thanks for posting.
Is the 987 911 comparable in maintenance costs? Or is the 911 a lot more expensive to maintain? Also does the engine need to come out to do a 986 IMS bearing? Great stuff!
IMS bearing is literally the same as a clutch job. Generally both are done ‘while you’re in there’. The difficulty has been waaaaaay overhyped
No it is not S but the car was not used by the previous owner for 5 years so tires are old but not used.
Hi Nathan, I am from the UK and I have a 987 Boxster, I have a issue with the Passenger side electric window which is not working. this is also a issue with these cars I have been told.
I have not had that issue, some have issues with the window regulator though
Nathan, what 987 obd scan tool do you recommend? Thanks!
Have you seen any problems with the transmission clunking and having play in the rear wheels (when on the lift)? Also electrical/computer problems? I was close to buying a 2009 Cayman S with 125 k miles. When my mechanic (with Porsche experience, of course) checked it, he found these issues and said the transmission was going to need to be replaced soon, and there was some confusion among the computers (throwing lots of faults) that was going to take a lot of time to sort out.
Sounds like he needs more Porsche experience
Question on the cat delete here in this state you wouldn’t get the car inspected because of the emissions crap.
They got these extensions you attach to the bungs on the header then thread your o2 sensor in some cases it passes your ecu not to throw a code or you could delete it from the ecu your choice but some states have less strict emissions laws
