Many of the 3.5L Ecoboost owners are experiencing shuddering issues with the vehicles, whether its misfires, driveline, or transmission. This is my fix to the issue I was having. Hope this helps!

Hey guys, just wanted to give you guys a heads up on something. When buying a trans filter for your truck, make SURE you get the right one. There's some misinformation online with getting the right motorcraft part. One filter has ONE outlet, and the other filter has TWO outlets. Make sure you're getting the right one. They shipped me a filter with one outlet when the filter on my truck needs two outlets.
where and how do i put the shutter in my truck ?
@@calebdavenport6427 it’ll go into the transmission dipstick hole, or fill hole. You’ll have to go under the truck on the passenger side in order to find the dipstick, I’ll be under a cap with a hex head on it, the size of that hex head is 3/4”. Then once you get that off, you’ll squeeze the shudderfix into the dipstick hole
@@ChaseBuiltBikes and i can go into like my local auto zone and just ask for shutter and that’s all?
@@calebdavenport6427 Yep! I went to advance auto to get it, but I’m sure auto zone has it as well.
@@ChaseBuiltBikes do i turn the vehicle off and let it cool down before i put it in or what did u do
Hey everyone! Just wanted to make a comment up top here since I’ve been getting this question a lot. My truck hasn’t had an issue since the making of this video. I’ve put on over 65,000 miles and it’s been perfect.
I commented two weeks and I finally confirmed I have a torque converter lockout shudder on my 2013 Ford Edge SEL with 78,100 miles. After extensive reading I've found, due to the "green-energy-movement-mumbo-jumbo", that these newer vehicles are manufactured to use a lower viscosity fluid, namely the Mercon LV transmission fluid in these ford transmission applications. Lower viscosity fluid does not provide the protection higher viscosity fluid offers so higher replacement intervals are needed to maintain protection. I've found that intervals between 30k-50k miles seems to be ideal. I was told I needed to have my transmission rebuilt, but the transmission shop NEVER mentioned the fluid being the potential issue. My shudder was also 100% eliminated after using 1 2oz tube of Lubegard's Instant Shudder Fixx & Lucas Oil Products Transmission Conditioner. My shudder was instantly eliminated. Going to get my fluid changed very soon! I'll repost when I 100% know if my issue was the same as yours! Thanks for the video!
Do you add the lube guard through the small hole right on top of transmission or is there a place under the hood for your truck?
I had the same shudder, I put 2 "shudder fix" additives in - and it immediately went away. ive only driven it 30 miles since I put the shudder fix additive. THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!! my issues started around 110k I got it at 26k and never had the any issues and never serviced the transmission.
That’s amazing news. I had very minimal shudder on my truck started a month back I thought maybe it’s something on the road but then I thought no maybe it’s the tires . So I brought it in shop they did new tires shocks ball joint control arm (mind you the truck was due for this stuff) and didn’t fix the problem. I UA-camd found the shudder thing told my mechanic. He flushed it added conditioner etc and it runs perfectly . I been hearing it’s a “temporary fix” but you say you’re still good . Lots of people have good results from this. Also I had the mechanic check the fluid if it had any metal pieces in it and there was nothing so I think I’m good.
Just did a tranny fluid swap, changed tranny fluid and put the additive in. I cannot get my truck to repeat the shuddering, so I'd say I'm a satisfied customer thus far. The tech that worked on my truck advised me not to put the additive in..... I kindly told him to F off and just do it. People don't realize how much time and effort I spend on these forums just to save myself money, thanks for the video Chase!
Chase, you are a life saver! I have a 2015 F150 Platinum, and I thought my transmission was shot. I picked this truck up a couple of years ago and put 20k on it so far (103k total). I did a little research before I called the auto experts, and I found your video. You described exactly my issue. I asked a local lube shop if they would do a transmission fluid flush, and they asked me why. I told them that I had a transmission shudder, and I had no evidence it was never serviced before I got the truck. They told me that a transmission flush wouldn’t fix it and acted like doing it would actually harm my vehicle. I have never heard of a shop turning down work, but ok. Today, I picked up the LubeGard Shutter Fix and put it in the transmission myself. The fluid looked brown on the dip stick, so I am confident that it was never changed. Once I finished, I buttoned everything back up and took it for a spin. I did some in town driving (where the shifts were rough and sluggish before) and some highway miles (where the shudder was the worst). NOTHING! It was smooth as butter! I can’t believe it. I will have to buy the filter and transmission fluid to do this job myself now that I know what the issue is. Huge thanks to you, Chase!
You are very welcome! I’m glad this worked for you! It’s quite the relief to know that the transmission isn’t shot!
Hey did you ever buy a new filter for trans? I’m in same boat got a 15
After a week of research, I found this video last night. Bought the shudder fix today and put it in, and like magic, my f150 rides fine now! Thank you so much!
I have the same problem , has the shutter lube kept it good ? I e heard that's just a temp6 fix , but if it works for a while I might just try that for a bit and start saving for a built torque converter
@@jeremyruss2407if the shudder fix stops your issue then you need a fluid change. If it doesn’t your converter is bad. It kept mine at bay for nearly 50K miles
Been living with this for 20,000 miles for a 12 dollar fix. It worked
I was towing about 6,000 pounds this weekend and was noticing a shudder at 2050-2100 rpm in 6th gear. At first if a hill was coming up I would manually drop to 5th and it would go away. After about 300 miles it’s now at the point of doing it between 1500 and 2500 rpm and in 5th and 6th gears. I unhooked and under moderate/heavy acceleration I could hear a clicking and had a rough idea it was the transmission.
Thank you for the video and making my search for the problem easy. It’s headed in for cam phasers this week, so I’ll add that to the list of things to bring up.
After over 2 grand in parts and labor trying anything and everything to have this issue diagnosed or fixed and watching hundreds of videos. I found this video explaining the same issue I was having after trying the shudder fix the problem immediately was resolved. Next step is getting the trans pan oil drained and filter changed and hope it continues working. Thank you I was getting ready to give up about to put up my truck for sale. Really thank you very much.
You’re very welcome! Glad it worked for you
@@ChaseBuiltBikeshave you heard about the shutter on a 2017? My truck is doing a skipping and sounds like the same problem as everyone's trucks with the 6 speeds
@mikegarcia7452 there has been a couple people in the comments having issues with their 2017’s. I think it may be 18 or 19 when the converter issues were resolved. The 6R80 is famous for having converter shudder, unfortunately it’s a pretty common issue
Man this video fixed the problem I have had for over a year. I always thought my eco boost was just eating spark plugs and the shudder was misfires. sometime went by and I would experience those aggressive shudders but I wouldn't get a CEL or any on forscan. I went into a deep search starting with "misfires but no CEL" until I found this. Literally immediate fix. my 2014 3.5 ecoboost with 220,000 miles now runs as smooth as glass at highway speeds where i had the same symptoms
I have 2014 3.5 I’m coming up on 120,000 any tips to get mines to 220,000 like urs ? Thanks
Thank you for posting this video. You saved me thousands of dollars for now. I've been trying to figure this shutter out for a couple of weeks, and starting to spend lots of money. I can't believe how much smoother my truck is shift now, and no shutter 2016 F150 5.0L 80,000 miles
You’re very welcome, glad it worked for ya!
Hey Kevin, any updates? How's your truck doing now?
Do you add the lube guard through the small hole right on top of transmission or is there a place under the hood for your truck?
Thanks for this ad!!!!! My 2015 f150 started doing the shutter coming back from Florida and thought what in the world!!! Then made a trip to Tennessee and it REALLY got BAD in the mountains. Was having to downshift to 5th gear alot while climbing because was getting on my nerves so bad. Well went today and bought a tube of the STUDDER FIX and put it in. And like magic I've drove it probably 30 miles soon as i put it in and did AMAZING!!!!! NOT the first studder went over 2 high over passes and NEVER STUDDARD the first time!!!! THANKS FOR THIS POST.
Great news! You’re welcome
well, after nearly 8 months of fighting this issue, I am SOO happy I found this video!! Thank you so much for posting. It has been driving me absolutely crazy, and it is the exact same thing you described. A little shudder around 1500rpms and would just slightly jump a few hundred rpms right as the shudder began. I was so positive that it was a misfire or something with the engine only because the shudder happened with the weird rpm spike, did not think the trasnmission would do that. I have a 2011 with the 3.5L and after watching/listening to your video, I am 99% positive this is my issue. Thank you for fixing my massive headache haha!
You are very welcome! I remember the frustrations I had while trying to track the issue down, I think I lost some hair! 😂
Peace brother, thank you so much for creating this video. It was the first one I found online and watched. It fixed my shutter issue in my 2015 F150. My wife and I are grateful to you brother, peace and love.
You’re very welcome! Glad to be of assistance
2017 F150 5.0 6 speed. Rumble strip feeling with RPMs changing about 15-20. Used two of the small tubes into the transmission and holy smokes, it worked! Went for a drive and no more vibrations. Can’t believe it.
Awesome news! Glad it worked out for you.
Great vid. Many owners don’t service the trans because dealers preach lifetime warranty now. All lifetime means is 80-100,000 miles.
Modern service intervals are starting to become insane, fords intervals on these trucks is causing more harm than good. I’ll change my engine oil every 3,000 due to fuel dilution in the eco boost engines
I wish I would have found this sooner, my 17 5.0 F150 has been doing this since the day I bought it about a year ago with 33k miles on it. Since it is still under warranty I have had it to the dealer 4 times in the last year and gotten nowhere...... They just kept telling me there was no codes and to keep driving it. I have changed the plugs and coils just to rule those out and no change. It had gotten too unbearable to drive and my factory warranty is up in September so I took it to the dealer and handed them the keys and said I wasn't taking it back until they figured it out. After 3 weeks in the shop they called and said its the torque converted. Took a quick google search to find all sorts of people with the same issue. Thanks for posting this, I have hope it'll finally be fixed.
Thank you so much for this. It worked for me as well, the stealership was trying to take the transmission apart to troubleshoot before suggesting this. Thank God I saw this video first!
🤣🤣 stearlership I gotta remember that one
Did you ever know that you're my heee-ro?!! YOU ARE THE MAN!!! Thank you for this info! I have a 2016 F150 4x4 with a 5.0 and that shudder was driving me nuts! I was just getting ready to pull the driveshaft and get it balanced so you saved me the hassle and the extra money it would have cost me. I have to say that I took a different route to address this, rather than add a friction modifier, I decided to flush the trans fluid hoping the new, clean fluid would have the same affect. I'm glad to say the shudder is 98% gone. A local oil change shop just flushed the trans this morning and I noticed an immediate improvement. I was still able to detect a very small shudder driving home but it only happened once and is nowhere near as bad as it used to be. Someone else might not have noticed it but after driving the truck with it shuddering for a while, I notice the smallest vibration. I might add the modifier as well for giggles. I ran across another UA-cam video where the guy said the only way to truly fix the issue is to replace the torque converter but unless the clutches in the torque converter are actually shot, that might not be the case. It could just be the worn out and dirty fluid that is causing the pressure deviations. After all, when you replace the torque converter you're also replacing the fluid. Time will tell. If it starts shuddering again, then I will have to go the torque converter route but for now I have my early Christmas present!! Thanks again dude!!
Awesome! Glad to hear you got her fixed. Thanks for the awesome comment!
Do you have an update? Has the shutter come back or did the new fluid fix the issue?
@@dback138 New fluid fixed the issue. I have not had one problem since I got the transmission fluid flushed. I now have about 88k on the truck and love it. I never added the shudder fix. Just flushed the trans fluid.
This info was dead on. I have a 2016 F150 Lariat 5.5 bed with 106K miles. I had the exact issue begin and replaced the U-Joints thinking it was the problem. After that didn't fix it, I watched this video and added the Shutter Fix to the transmission. This worked immediately and the vibration was gone. I'll be doing a transmission pan drop and changing the filter out. Nice video and great info. Saved me a ton of time and money.
Have you changed transmission filter and fluid since adding shudder fluid
I did. I did a pan drop and replaced the filter right after adding the shudder fix. I drove it for about 1k miles then did it again. I also added the larger bottle of Lube Guard the shutter fix company offers and I’ve gone about 20k miles without the issue returning.
Thanks. I have a 2016 F-150 4 x 4 eco-boost. Mine behaves exactly as you described yours.
Bro!! Ive been chasing the same issue, embarrassed to say how long. 2015 Explorer sport. 2 different shops, 1 replaced a cat, the other a solenoid pig tail. Didn’t mention tranny fluid at all or maintenance intervals. The good news is the fluid change today fixed it. The better news is I’ve changed dang near everything on the top of the engine, lol. It’s like it just rolled off the line! Thanks for posting this, you rock!!!
My truck is doing the same thing at 60 mph and I've been trying to figure out what's going on with it. Now this video helps me out and I will be buying that shutter stuff to sew if that works for me. Thanks foe putting this video out for us to know
This happened to my 2015 ecoboost at 150k miles. Transmission flush at the ford dealer resolved the issue. It’s at 227k and now it’s back! Got to get another flush. I put a lot of miles on my truck as I travel for work.
Great videos!
Did the flush help the second time I'm almost to that same mileage on a 16 model with a shutter
Yes sir it did! Got it flushed again at Krause Ford in Woodstock GA. I won’t wait for it to happen again. Going to get it flushed every 60k. I do a ton of highway driving. I’ve already put 2-3k on since flush and no issues yet again! Good luck

Since we’re about the same miles… how many throttle bodies you had to put on your truck? I am on my 3rd replacement.
My 2015 EcoBoost 3.5 was doing the same exact thing I put the stuff in that he recommended and it works great no issues.
Bro thank you. I’ve been battling this on a supercharged 2015 Escalade with 8L90e. I’m headed to buy a torque converter TODAY and started YouTubing second guessing myself if it really was the torque converter… you described my issue to a T. Everyone else described torque converter issues differently but this is exactly how mine was acting.
@@Sladebarnett You're welcome! Best of luck on the converter swap!
I have been searching and searching trying to find someone with an article or video that explains this on my new to me 2015. It’s been driving me nuts. I actually changed my plugs and coil packs tonight hoping it would help. I was going to do it anyway because there was a small misfire/shutter and it was at 100k miles when I got it. Changing the plugs and packs fixed everything else but this shutter/vibration. I have told everybody it feels like a rumble strips. I am getting some of this shudder fixx stuff first thing in the morning and trying it out. Thanks for posting this.
This worked for me. Completely got rid of the shudder.
That's awesome! I'm glad this video helped. It was driving me absolutely nuts too, I felt the same way!
@@brandonr.9158 great. But do you think this is a permanent fix, or just temporary.
Thank you for sending me the message about my comment on your video. I took your info and got the mechanic to watch the scan tool readouts on the torque converter. AND I BET YOU CAN'T GUESS WHAT HE FOUND! LOL! It was slipping just like in your video! And it showed on his scan. So I would say to anyone having this issue, Don't bother just leaving your vehicle vehicle and HOPING, they can replicate the issue! Make them ride with you! And avoid the hassle and extra days off work. I had him in the truck until the transmission started warming up and the issue raised it's ugly head. And he was able to record each event. That way my warranty covers it. Thanks again for your video!!!
Awesome! Glad to hear!!! I've just heard your same horror story from other people and that's gotta be so frustrating, that's some good news! Glad I could help and thank you for watching the video
Got the same issue on my 15' f150 3.5 w/ 197K factory motor/trans. I will be ordering a tube now. Thanks for the video!
This happened to me today. You described the issue almost verbatim. Going to try this fix to see if it resolves the issue. Thanks for posting.
I just got a 2015 2.7 Ecoboost with 162k miles and having this EXACT same issue! I just got it yesterday and was going "oh great my transmission is going to blow up." I'm going to get the transmission drained and filled with a new filter, add some Shudder Fix and see what she does. Thanks!
Yup! I’m fixing my truck tomorrow. I have a 2011 that does exactly what you’re describing!!!
The only thing I can say to you is thank you I got 270,000 mi on my 2016 F150 the dealer was ready to put a new transmission on my truck in I tried this and the problem went away
Dude, you don't know how long I've been trying to figure this out. I refused to take it to the dealer. I've gone through everything except trans. You are the only person that has described the EXACT problem I have, and given a legit fix. Can't thank you enough for taking the time to post this. I've never used shudder fix. Did you use it before the oil change? I was getting ready to change the trans oil this week as the next step anyway. Should I wait to use the shudder fix until after? Or do you think it matters at all?
Not a problem man! Im glad you liked the video! You can do the shudder fix before or after. I went ahead and put mine in before just to confirm that a fluid change would fix my shudder. If you do it after I think that would be a good thing for an extra step in helping the shudder.
Sounds like my problem too
@@mikelunsford7462 Could be. I changed the trans oil, no flush. Used about 7 qts I think. Added one tube of shudder fix. Haven’t had the problem since.
@@FortunateJon after I, uh, you, fix my problem, you should sell this secret for a dollar, you'd be Rich! Like the headlight guy, wiping a carb cleaner soaked rag and wiping Toyota headlight lenses to clean em up. Rich rich Rich
Thanks my problem too! I have changed wheel hubs about went to struts this is alot cheaper! I will do it tomorrow
My 2016 F150 XL 3.5 Duratec (non-turbo) 203k miles is doing the same thing fixed a cylinder 3 misfire (bad plug) did 6 plugs and new coil bottom boots (all Ford OEM parts) but now that the misfire studder is gone from the hard acceleration still have the pulsing shudder at low rpm (1,300-1,500) 5th/6th gear 45-55mph with very light acceleration under no load. So I appreciate you sharing your experience as I suspect torque converter issue but I was going to dive into fuel delivery diagnostics first but know I think I will do Trans fluid flush and treatment with the additive you linked. This will hopefully be the low headache approach 😅…. I bought this truck a year ago dirt cheap and the previous owner did not do any maintenance outside if and oil change every 10k so I hope this does the trick. 😊thanks for sharing. 👍🏻
You’re very welcome! Best of luck to you in your diagnosis!
I have this issue currently....excellent video. I suspected drive line, I definitely have exact same issue you did.
Had this exact issue with my '16 3.5 eb F150 as well, and like you said...I ended up taking it to Ford, and had them do a full transmission fluid 'flush' and refill, and I've never had the issue return! I had no codes either...albeit now it's a going into 'limp mode' so now I'll be changing out my throttle body tomorrow. I've got 133K on the truck, so I don't mind throwing a few $$ on getting these parts new again. I bought the truck two years ago which had 126K then, so I don't put a lot of miles on the truck generally, but overall it runs great. It had a full tune up just prior to me buying it, so I've only been doing my own oil changes every 5K so far, and I got full records of everything done to the truck since new (got at the dealer it was originally sold from, as the previous owner took it there for maintenance) and the only thing to date that's been done, is one new exhaust manifold, other than maintenance & tires. Love the truck, and hoping the new throttle body fixes this 'limp mode' issue, albeit it hasn't given me a code, it was the next best thing to change, since others have had similar issues. I picked up a code reader for my tool box, and I should mention, after taking it to the dealer for this limp mode, they reprogrammed the PCM for $500. and it's still gone into limp mode 4 times since that Ford service, so I'll find it on my own.
Had the same issue on my 2016 3.5. Drove me crazy (limp mode). Never would throw a code and was intermittent.
Ended up being the throttle body. The electronics were coated with oil when I pulled it. Replaced it with one from autozone and put a catchcan on it. Problem solved.
This is exactly what is going on with mine right now. Thank you!!!
You’re welcome! Best of luck!
5th and 6th gear especially up hill. 2015 Lincoln navigator. THANK YOU!!
You’re welcome!
Thanks bro!! It fixed my shutter at low speeds mainly at 3rd through 6th gear. But it’s still shuttering at 75 mph and above. 😢
Update. After driving for 2 days. It’s cleared up. Thanks for this miracle juice!!!
I went through the same thing, 2015 F-150, 85k miles, SAME EXACT ISSUE, just got diagnosis from dealer today, torque converter. Quoted $2960 parts and labor (parts are probably $300-400 max) from Ford dealership, could probably get it $1k cheaper shopping around, but it's a promising solution based on your experience. Thanks so much for posting this!
You're welcome! It all depends on how long the converter was shuttering for and how much the clutches slipped. If they slipped for too long, it's worn down enough where a converter would be necessary. If not, most times new fluid will do the trick!
How long is too long??😟. Mine just started doing it last nite while driving from Texas to Wyoming. It’s annoying 😒feels like shaft is gonna break into pieces
@@moerios04deville do it asap if you can. If it started from Texas to Wyoming I assume that was a little under 1000 miles so you should be okay

@@moerios04deville SAME thing I had. A couple weeks after buying my truck it started shuttering. If the fluid and shutter fix doesn't work, it'll most likely be needing a torque converter

It definitely doesn’t hurt to try it but I know it’s going to work. Thanks
I just wanted to say thank you. Been trying to figure out this problem for the longest and your video did the trick. I didn’t even change my filter or anything. Just added the additive
My 2017 expedition xlt ecoboost has a newly noticed shudder. It sounds like im running over rumble strips randomly. I changed my o2 sensor, and my spark plugs are good. I'm going to try the shudder fix and see if I can get a transmission flush and I pray to God, it'll fix my noise. It's only for a few seconds here and there, but over 40mph. I'm hopeful! Thank you for the helpful video.
I’m so mad at myself! I bought a 2015 F150 with 113k miles 3 months ago. The day I drove it off the lot it’s had that shudder. I’ve spent $2,300 trying to fix the issue and the dealer was gonna charge me $4,880 to replace the torque converter next week! Thank you Jesus, I saw this video.. I just put the (shudder fixx) 10 minutes ago and just like magic, the horrible shudder is GONE!!!!!
Is it still running good?
@JB-sv3xz yes it is!
Same issue s sure was thinking it was drive shaft , but that seemed good when I took that off . Glad I stumbled upon this issue , gonna be expensive but hope to get it in asap to get rid of this problem
Mine just started at 79500 miles. It shuttered but when it did the light came on but went away when I let off the pedal. When I got off the highway it did it from a stop and eventually the light stayed on. Will be checking the code today.
Thanks for the info!
Also I have the 2015 3.5 eco lariat. Has anyone had the light stay on? Also I had the trans flush done this past year
Your check engine light came on? Definitely check the code, you may be dealing with a misfire vs a trans shudder. Keep us posted on your codes please!
Brother thank you. I will buy the shudder fix now. I hope it fixes the problem.
Running over the bumps before a stop sign is a good descriptor, def hadn’t thought of that. 😂 same issue for me hoping this is the culprit.
Mine is doing the same thing. 45-80 on acceleration would vibrate under my seat. It is much worse under load and going up hills. Loss of power going up hills as well. Mine is a 2016 3.5L Eco and I'm going to change out the trans fluid and filter. Hopefully, that's fixes it. A ford dealer told me it was going to cost me 3000 to fix the torque converter.. thanks for the video, bud!
Not a problem! Hope that fixes it. If you wanted to see before dropping the money on a filter and fluid, try that shudder fix if you want! It works wonders.
@@ChaseBuiltBikes what kind did you buy and where at?
@@JakeSetzer I bought Lube Guard shudder fix. You can find it at advanced auto it runs about $7-8 for the tube. I also put a link to it in the description for an amazon link.
One thing that helped me diagnose my issue alot to was watching the tac with the gear indicator. The TCC will engage about halfway through 3rd gear, you can feel it or hear it, it almost seems like the truck shifts to 4th but if you watch the gear indicator you'll be in 3rd still. Watch the gear indicator with the tac, and if your vibration starts to happen when, or after the TCC has been engaged (halfway through 3rd gear) you know you're dealing with a Converter clutch issue.
Also with the lube guard, I set mine in warm water for about 5 minutes before putting it in, it just made it flow out of the tube better since it's cold in the winters where I'm at, just made it easier to put in. Good luck!
Thanks brother for the video. My 2013 F150 just started doing the same thing. I'm going to try the shudder fix. Thanks again.
The older 4R70W trans (going back to the 90s) had this issue. The cure was a full flush of Mercon V (ford approved procedure, these use another Fluid). Problem was The friction modifiers got depleted. Some early ones also used a different fluid and required an upgrade.
I just bought a platinum and this same thing is happing to me i bought the shudder fix and ill see what happens. she drives great no problems no power loss just does that weird shake when im giving it a little bit of throttle around 45mph
I just copped a 15 platinum and mine is doing the same with 113k miles. Did the shudder fix work ? I’m considering trying it out too.

God send!!! My 2016 3.5 Eco boost was having the shudder. 30/ 55/ 70 MPH. Went and had a transmission flush and added the shudder guard. Fixed the issue!! Thanks for the video!
Glad to hear that!! Thanks for watching it!
What is a shudder guard?
@@NoeGonzalez7 it's a transmission fluid additive that is basically a friction modifier for the clutches. Helps them grip a bit better. There's a link to the product in the video description if you'd like to get a better look
Could be, but if scanner is showing misfires on 1 or more cylinders, it certainly can be the injectors. If injectors I would replace all injectors.
If you see misfires on the scan tool under a load watching live data, then this is not a torque converter or transmission issue.
Notice how I test all these issues, you can also check for trans shutter with the scan tool. Launch works!
Thanks for the video, my truck stayed at dealership for 4 days, all they told me was the tires were cupping....going to try this and see if jts mt problem also
Did it fix it?
You nailed exactly what the 2015 Ford Expedition I have is doing. Thanks for the info!
I also have a 2016 Expedition XLT EcoBoost and I’ve noticed that once I go above 40 mph, I feel a vibration when it shifts every 5-10 mph. It feels like if I’m driving on the rumble strips on the side of the road.
Had the exact same problem. Your descriptive matched to the tee on what mine was doing. The fix worked as well. I hope it’s not a sign for more trouble to come. Will change filter and fluid soon.
Trying this ASAP. We've been having this exact issue for a few years. Just had to send to dealer with multiple codes thrown. Got timing chain replaced and a bunch of other crap. $4800 later it still shudders, but not like it did when it threw the codes, so that must have been a different issue. Let's hope this works. We really don't want to get rid of our Expedition.
Did it work?
I read so many forums that said the fluid exchange/flush would get rid of the shudder until I found this video, and "the Shudder Fixx" from Lubegard. I can happily say that my 2017 ecoboost 10speed tranny shifts like a gem now - thank you! (saved me $500-$750 from estimates to flush the transmission)
So you didn’t flush it ? You just added to it like that? And it worked?
If the transmission is not filled to the full line the torque converter will suck air cavitate and shudder. Also a clogged transmission filter will cause this. It is crucial the transmission is filled with the transmission fluid with the engine running and the transmission temperature hot. A quart low is all it takes.
Your description was spot on!
Thanks guy. Perfect description!! Exactly what mine is doing
@Chase636RR Thanks so much for this info! I have a 2015F150 3.5L Ecoboost with the 6R80E transmission. Has 155K mi. I just got it at 145K. Same shudder issue you described. Got a dealer quote for TC around $2400. That’s IF they determine that to be the cause. I’ve checked around independent shops and they’re around 1700-2000 for TC but same qualification…may need full rebuild. Saw the Ford Tech (FlyingWrenches) on UA-cam describe this also and he said it usually does not need a rebuild just the TC and that Shudder Stop was effective but temporary.
I took to an independent shop that had been recommended by 3 different shops as fair/expert tranny place. They want $5k for a full rebuild!! Their description sounds alot like what you said: “TC engaging at every shift/losing pressure throughout unit.”
I can get a full flush/filter done for $375 and add the ShudderStop. That’s what I’m leaning toward first. I’d be ok with paying 1700-2000 for TC alone but $5k for a full rebuild from an independent shop (however well regarded) just seems way steep to me. I have a pretty entry level code scanner so don’t think I can check the pressure so will give Shudder a try and see how it goes. How long has that remedy been working for you now? Months? Thanks
What did you end up doing?
Interested in what direction you went
Listen, I had three times failed coil packs, and prior to my downshift to first recall, which reset the transmission module but they also reset the behavior of the OBD two system and misfires would not stick an engine light.
It took me 30 miles before I was willing to go on the highway at the top of fourth gear and lean on that gas.
Everything and every single symptom pointed to torque converter shudder.
I even added the 2 ounces, but when I laid my transmission fluid on a white napkin, it was as pink as baby skin….. That is when I went for a ride and I went along way until 200 Fahrenheit was reached for the transmission fluid temperature and then I leaned on it on the highway after I hit fourth gear because I still felt the shudder… after Ellen on that fuel gas paddle at the top end of 3500 RPM and fourth gear is when I forced the check engine light to start flashing…. But this is the difference. This is also the negligence of Ford after the recall for the downshift to first in the reset of the transmission control module power control module, and the OBD two behavior. The check engine light did not sensing misfire cylinder five. When I got back, zero engine light on I connected the reader and it read misfire cylinder 5. 0305 whatever the number is.. The majority of people complaining about downshift shudder-- get to 60+ mph in fourth -- lean on gas like a race truck-- hit 3500rpm. It will trigger and hold it there as it isn’t severe at that rpm for a moment. Suddenly it is ALLOWED TO TRIP P030x -- flash check engine light and then once it isn’t sensed it shuts the mf light off !!!!!! This is negligence all day long. I read codes after and the code is there yet NO ENGINE LIGHT ON. This is seriously not good. Misfire sensed and then blind someone will drop the hammer and stall or die.
I had the TCM recall already-- this is what caused this behavior. Completely conscious negligence -- FORD is out of their minds.
I bought a 2013 Ford Edge SEL, that has the 3.5l naturally aspirated ecoboost engine. I just turned 78,000 miles and I am attempting to diagnose the causation of my vehicle's particular symptoms. My plugs are particularly fouled, and are the second set of plugs in my vehicle. Between 30-50 mph my car hesitates and stutters/shutters terribly. The fact that the hesitation/stutter/shutter is worse at that speed is highly indicative of a transmission issue. My 2008 Kia Rondo LXV6 has 214,520 miles and runs perfectly. I had a 1997 Ford Taurus GL V6 I sold with 203,500 miles and none of the issues I am having now did I have with either of the above named vehicles. Neither of those 200,000 plus vehicles lost oil, or any fluid, so it is quite a shame that my Ford Edge SEL is so poorly built.
Thank you exactly what mine is doing. Going to try the fix today.
Great video you explained my problem perfectly. I will try shudder fix tomorrow. You should get a commission. Thanks for help
Thank you sir dealer wanted to charge me $2600. Thank you again
Thanks Man. This was the best help ever. Took it to Ford and the changed a couple of things and they didn’t know what kept causing this
No problem! I'm glad it helped. Shudders and vibrations can be a real headache to diagnose
Is this a temporary fix or a permanent one?
Thank you brother. Great information, I was pulling my hair for a week.
Thanks man I was about to just trade this expedition I did everything you did and just found it yesterday and you confirmed it !!!!!
2015 F150 EcoBoost; I've experienced a shudder that's very similar in feel to what you & others have described. But in my case, it's noticeable at speeds below 45 & it's intermittent. Sometimes it's constant for 30+ seconds. Other times it goes away just as quickly as it starts, lasting less than a few seconds. First time I noticed it was about 20k miles ago when I had about 70k on the truck. Took the truck into the Ford dealership where I bought it & they replaced the torque converter under the extended warranty & I also paid to have the plugs replaced. The problem seemed to go away for about 3 months (during the summer months of Wisconsin). But it's been back again since September. Unfortunately, I can't recreate on demand the pattern at which it happens to be able to diagnose the problem. Has anyone experienced a loss of power when the shudder is apparent or reduced gas mileage? I'm not opposed to trying the LubeGard Shudder Fix unless it just masks a bigger problem. Suggestions?
Hey sorry for the late response, with a reduce in power, and a reduce in gas mileage, I’m thinking more engine related vs transmission related. If you have access to a scan tool, it would be a good idea to check into the “mode 6” option of the scan tools, this will give you information on each cylinder, and the misfire count for the cylinders. That would give you a good indication of each cylinder and be easy to track down if you’re experiencing a miss. A common issue on the older ecoboosts was that oil would collect in the intercooler, and eventually it would get into the intake causing a intermittent misfire, some solved this with a catch can, others solved it by drilling a tiny seep hole into the bottom hose nipple of the intercooler. Also, being it happens on the cooler months of the year, it could be moisture in the intercooler that isn’t able to burn off quite as fast since the engine takes longer to reach operating temperature.
It could be a number of things causing your issue. A converter shudder is generally very easy to recreate, and will happen nearly every time you drive the vehicle. Hope this helps!
Great information. Thanks for sharing
We put positive traction modifier in back in the 90's to 2000. Need to service transmission every 50,000 miles.
My truck is kinda doing this. It's all random though. No rhythm or reason to when it does it. It's done it coasting at 60mph , at 80mph. It's even done it work my foot off the gas and coasting to a stop sign. I took my truck to a transmission shop and they scanned it and tested everything and found no issues with my transmission components. My rpms don't do what yours are doing though. I've checked all my suspension and everything seems right, checked my iwe system cuz i figured maybe the 4wheel drive is trying to kick in while driving. Seems to hold air and operate fine. I have no idea what it is, and it's driving me freakin crazy
Just bought my 2015 a month ago. Having same issue. Mine starts as soon as I start pulling a grade or going up a hill. Took it to dealership yesterday they said they couldn't make it do it. I'm pretty sure they didn't drive it like they said. Because the thing does it if you look at it wrong!!! Going back Friday to show them how to drive i guess with the ( parts changer, read mechanic here).
I've been hearing alot of people say the same thing you're saying! They'll take it to the dealer and they "can't find it, or can't replicate it" I could replicate mine everytime whenever I wanted to. I'm glad I avoided the dealership headache! I'm a technician by trade. If they still can't find anything when you take it there have them monitor the torque converter with a scan tool, if they can't feel it, they'll see it in the parameters on the scan tool
2015 v8 250k, never changed transmission fluid, never had the issue you're explaining. Probably the ecoboost engines only experiencing this
It’s mainly an issue in the 6R80 transmission. I’ve seen some that are perfectly fine, and others that will have this issue at 40k miles
Fixed my issue going in for trans fluid and filter change 2016 f150 2.7 6r80 130,000 pretty sure the trans has never been serviced, I’m the second owner thought it was ujoints at first then change spark plugs cleaned sensors nothing until I put this friction additive in
Did you have delayed shift
Thanks a ton man! Been pulling my hair for a while too.
Damn that cab drone
I added the red little tube of lubegard to my 2017 5.0 f150 and it completely fixed the issue for about a month tgen returned. Bought it at 110k now it's at 148k and im not sure if its safe to change the fluid this late in the game
I just bought a 09 expedition from the city. About halfway home I noticed it. Makes me sick to my stomach. Bought as is and signed papers, so I’m stuck with it. We NEED this vehicle for our family and I’m now broke.
If the shudder isn’t too bad, I would definitely try the shudder fix and a fluid and filter change. Hopefully that works for you.
@@ChaseBuiltBikes I did just that and all works well…..for now 🤞🏻
Shit same here. I’ve been dealing with this for a year now. I just thought it was bigger tires. I’ve got a 5.0 and she shudders like crazy. Thanks for the info
I have big tires too but I don’t know how the shudders sound like or feels like? I’m trying to pin point if my truck even has it? I have a 5.0 2019 6in f150. Know how it feels like?
Thank you so much.. fixed the problem for me..
2007 Ford Expedition. I used the shudder fix and has fixed my issue for now. But should I do a transmission flush or change? If it turns out have to replace torque converter will I have to pay for new transmission fluid again?
It depends on when your transmission was last serviced/ mileage. Most times, just a fluid change will fix the issue. If you'd like to get ALL the old fluid out, including the fluid in the converter the only way to do that is with a flush. Just be careful if you do a flush since it's known to cause issues on high milage transmissions. (Removes the "grit" from wear that helps with friction) and it all depends on how you or the shop removes the trans to replace the converter. You'll have to buy trans fluid either way because the converter needs to be filled a certain amount before installation. If you decide to drain the pan when you remove the trans, you'll have to buy all the fluid again, but if you don't drain the pan, you'll still have to buy some fluid to put into the converter.
Hey thanks for the video! I'm currently getting a shutter now with no check engine light. Curious tho if you were getting the shutter to while in park and reving the motor?
You’re welcome! And I was not no. Mine would only happen about halfway through 3rd gear after the TCC solenoid activated.
Awesome video bro have the same issue with my f150
Two thumbs up!
Wow thank you so much!
2015 lincoln navigator. Exact same issue here.
Thank you thank you thank you!!!
I replace 6qts in mine every 4th oil change, or about 25-30k miles. If I go further I start to get shudders. The ford maintenance interval is wrong for these 6r80s
Shame that it's happened so soon into your ownership of the truck. What's your opinion on this happening to the rumored Ford Maverick line releasing soon? I currently have my eyes set on it and looking to avoid potential issues down the line.
My shutter seems to do it in 6th gear mostly
Thank you very much or help.
Hey man thanks for the video. Do i add just one pack of shudder fix?
No problem! And yes, just one tube of shudder fix will do it
Sounds like what was happening with my 2013 F-150 the other day. During the shuddering (under hard acceleration to get up to speed), the yellow engine warning light on the dash was turning on and off for about 1/2 mile and then the shuddering went away and light stopped flashing.
I have same truck and had that happen. For me changing spark plugs fixed it but I have shudder now . Ecoboost (any turbos) eats spark plugs like every 60k miles
Yea change your spark plugs dude. Make sure you get motocroft plugs and gap them around .25
Same. Here mine is very mild tho going to change filter and add the shudder fix the flush worries me have terrible luck with tranns
Best of luck to ya!
