Omg!!! I just bought this stuff and put it in my ford Taurus police sedan. It been shaking for over a year. This stuff really works!!!! Thank you so much!!!!
I have a shuddering feeling coming through the pedal and cab, going 25-30 at low rpms, and sometimes I feel it around 45-50, only happens when I’m accelerating, but if I floor it or step on the gas heavily I would never feel the stutter/vibration. What is this!? I changed Tranny fluid and filter, tried my Air temp sensor, I have a 2007 Chrysler town and country. New fuel pump but maybe it’s a faulty one? New spark plugs and coils too but maybe one fouled out.
Dr. Tranny’s friction modifier fixed the shudder on my 2010 CX-9. Trans guy said it was the worst shudder he had ever seen in his 40 years in business but a trans fluid drain/fill with friction modifier every ~10-15k has got it to 200k miles with no problems.
My old '04 F150 New Style with the 4R75W started this. So I dropped the pan and man was it clean in there! Still had the factory dipstick bung in the bottom of the pan and factory fluid and filter in it. This truck was a Suncor oil sands truck driven by a supervisor buddy of mine its whole life and never was it over 80kmph its whole life. I bought it at auction in 2014 for less money than i paid for the Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs i put on it and was actually the first person to register it for public road use... Anywho.... I added 4.7L of fresh Mercon V and added a tube of Lubegard Shudder fix and BIZAM! It's smooth as glass, shifts crisply and zero RPM flutter under WOT and light to moderate throttle under relatively high load while traversing pretty good hills on the highway. I usualy don't ever use "Witch Doctor in a bottle" but this worked wonders well thus far at least.
Thank you, My Transmission torque converter is fine after adding a bottle of XL-3 friction modifier. I was surprised how happy my 3 to 4 gear shifts are. I bought 4 bottles of XL-3 about two years ago and could not use it in the 8.8 in my T-bird because i overfilled the differential with gear oil.

@@BarboursAutoHelp hey I have 2016 camry that shudder I flush it change filter with toyota atf ws. The shuddering reduced a lot, it was rough before but now you can hear a little bite. Do you think a little bite of additive can fix the problem? If yes, which one?

Word of warning: Always research your transmission first before adding something like that. It might be fine for his ford transmission for example, but I have a Mitsubishi Montero which has been well documented to self destruct if anything other than the OEM recommended ATF-SP-III oil is used. Your vehicle might be in a similar situation. Research your vehicle first!
I have this issue with my truck, except it does it between 55 and 60 mph, and worse on deceleration. It's a drive line vibration and can easily be confused with other problems, like a wheel bearings, front axel or drive shaft vibrations on 4wd models. On my truck, it's not just the vibration I'm getting, there's also a slight knocking noise coming from the bell housing area on cold starts but once warmed up it stops, and a whinning noise which is pretty much constant. A bad torque converter will cause a transmission to run hotter than normal, which could cause the overflow vent tube to leak transmission fluid, and fluid will get dark. This is a tough issue to diagnose if it's in the early stages, mine is getting worse and it's taken several thousand miles to show its ugly head. I've got a new torque converter coming in and I'm not happy about replacing it on a 4x4... dang it. Transmission still seams to be good so I'm luck there.
I bought an 06 tundra 4.0L automatic with 35k miles. At 62k miles it had to be replaced by Toyota who put a refurbished one in it. At 85k it’s shuddering bad. Went through 3 carrier bearings and I drive it like a normal person. First transmission was free cause of a warranty I had but now don’t know what to do. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks
My wife's 09 Impala is getting a low-speed shudder on 1-2 shift. Accelerating from a stop light it will shudder after a quick 1-2 shift. This on a 2-1/2 year old reman trans. Luckily it's still under warranty so we have it in the shop now.
Best to change the fluid at least every 30,000 miles with a synthetic thicker viscosity fluid. Manufacturers are using thinner fluids to dissipate heat better at the expense of less lubricity creating the chatter in lockup converters. Lubeguard makes a synthetic platinum(black box) friction modifier that works the best from my experience. In my 17 Silverado I used Valvoline DexVI synthetic fluid along with Lubeguard platinum and so far 5000 miles no issues.
Thanks for posting a wonderful video with mimicking the sound. Indeed I experience brief vibration at 35 to 45 MPH. Hopefully using the additives helps initially followed with transmission flush. I am not sure if we need to change the transmission system that’s expensive on an older truck with 120 miles. Anyways thanks. I will let you all know the results pretty soon.

Im getting a random bad shudder, like driving on a washboard road after pulling from a stoplight.. so like maybe 2500 rpm when going from 2nd to 3rd I think. The transmission is a fresh rebuild which had a blown overdrive planetary gearset (A340 trans in an 02 Tundra) and I replaced the Torq Converter with a “new” remanufactured unit. The trans has brand new fluid, 13 quarts which is the accurate dry fill amount. Could it be a bad or sticky solenoid instead? The shudder is random, but each time has occurred in the same exact way.. maybe at 35-45 mph after pulling from a stoplight. Please help!
I have a 2012 Chevy Express passenger van it's a 5.3 1LT AWD it has 250000 mostly Highway miles. The trans works great, the engine Burns zero oil and consumes no coolant. I'm getting the code PO700 and p0741. Shortly after these codes appeared the van began to accelerate strangely. It did this when I first accelerated and right around 45mpr. it would lose power but then gained it again, it would do this several times before going back to its normal performance. I noticed that my RPMs would go down and then quickly up and down again while it was happening. I know this is all a Telltale sign that it's the torque converter. However there is something else happening that is strange. First when this was happening I turned on my tow/ haul button and all symptoms would go away. The fault codes would go away but then always come back as my vans computer system would run its Diagnostics . For the last two weeks I've been driving my van with the tow/haul button off and the van is performing normally, however the fault codes continue to turn off and on. I have had the torque converter checked by a professional transmission shop and they found that the slippage is minor, in fact they said and I have verified that my type of clutch converter is designed to slip a little bit. They recommend a whole new transmission but I know that it could be other things like a solenoid or the computer. The van is currently running perfectly it has no symptoms.
Smh I'm just checking my transmission fluid "properly" and seen that I'm very below the fluid level of where it's supposed to be smh. I remember checking it before about 7 or 8 months ago, but wasn't paying enough attention to it, plus I had checked it when it was dark outside smh. But when I checked it, it look brown and it was low as I said earlier. I'm very concerned now, because my Acura Tl (2012 AWD) is making the same noise in this video, except it sounds more noticeable. I been trying to figure the solution out for almost 2 years (maybe a little longer). I even took it to the shop and they seem to not figure it out or some said they couldn't hear a noise. Overtime, the noise appeared more often now. But the thing is, is that it only appears when I'm on the road for 25 minutes, then the noise appears. Afterwards (when the car has been running) the noise will appear when the car comes to a stop (at a stoplight or stop sign) and the car takes off, then the noise will appear at 2nd gear. The RPM hand slightly goes up and down once it get to 2nd gear. When the RPM get at 2nd gear, the noise will appear, but when it picks up high speed, the noise go away. It only appears when it's at low speed. The noise sounds like what you described, but to me it sounds like a rumbling, vibrating or growling noise. Other than that, the car starts up fine, the gear levers still work fine, they get in gears and stay. I can put it in reverse fine and I can put it in drive fine. The car drives fine, other than the annoying issue that I'm mainly talking about. I'm just concerned with what condition the transmission or torque converter could be in. Being with how long it's been without me getting a transmission fluid change. I bought the car in 2017 when it had 95k miles, close to 96k miles. I've had it for 6 years now and I've put 51k miles on it. Honestly that really isn't alot in 6 years, I only drive my car to where I need to be, I'm not driving everywhere.
hey so i was totally agreeing with you on the sound description. i was just thinking how i’d explain the sound to someone and i thought about the rumble strip on roads but not as intense. for my car, it’s basically like a subwoofer bass sound. i notice the sound doesn’t happen when i turn overdrive off. is that a dead give away to change my converter? just did trans fluid and filter prior to this sound.
my '04 Dodge Dakota does this just before 30mph, just before 35mph and then just before 40mph but only if im accelerating slowly with very little throttle input. if i 'get on it', its fine. also only when its warmed up... i did a double flush and fill and added 'shudder guard' or something like that (friction modifier) but it didnt clear up the issue. i guess, i need a new converter...
Do u have 2 take apart the transmission 2 fill up the torque converter?? I know there is a drain plug ..but how do u fill it up with out taking it apart.. dose it fill up when u fill up the transmission??
My buddy has a Mini Van FWD. As soon as he steps on the accelerator to drive, it sound and feels like the Transmission will explode. He takes his foot of the gas and it stops. But, sometimes, when he accelerate again, it will shudder again. It can take 2 or three tries before it will run normally... Would your solution work in his case? Thanks
Hey I have an Audi A1 1.6 TDI, when I hit 40 mph I get severe judder, on motor, way, in 5th, if I slow down to around 50 due to traffic and pull away, it juddders bad.
I bought a couple of bottles of this before I realized that I have an open rear dif under my F350. Been sitting on a shelf for a couple of years now and was wondering what to do with it. I'll have to keep this bandaid in mind if the torque converter starts slipping. I'm probably overdue for a rebuild for that 4R100 and getting it done right (i.e. the way Ford _should_ have done it from the beginning) is four to six grand. Thanks. Did it help your Ranger?
@@BarboursAutoHelp Well, crapadoodle. I'd say it's time for a new one, but from what I've run into before, if the torque converter is going, the transmission may not be long for this world either. Or not. 50/50. Hell, just ignore me. I haven't had my Geritol and Bourbon yet. How many miles on her?
Great video - best description of this problem. How long will the tranny/ torque converter last if you don't replace it (about how many miles)? I have the same problem on my 06 Ridgeline. only at 48mph to 55mph do i feel that shudder. I can always press the gas a little to make it go away. Used an additive on my '2012 GMC sierra 5.3 just one tube they sell at advanced i think. It helped a little in the beginning but after 2 weeks i really saw and heard a difference. No or little shutter. But remember, changing the tranny and flushing it as dealership they will tell you it can get worse and you have to sign off saying that you know that if they change fluids anything can get better or worse. Kind of weird but guess they had issues before and don't want to be held liable. Ill take my chances and get it flushed i think. Keep ya posted if tranny TC shutter comes back.
Hello Mate Everything you said is exactly the problem I have on my Mazda CX-9 2008. The shuddering happens when on 80kmph. What do I recommend shudderfixx or any other liquid. I changed the transmission fluid not no change. The old oil inside was more like a paste. I filled it with Mercon V instead of the OEM which is too expensive . But goes without any problem so far. I also noticed there is zero issue of shudder when driving on tiptronic gear on my vehicle. I guess the torque converter doesn’t come into play on that. God bless you Stay safe
Can a torque converter cause a rear vibration Making the rear bed balance at all that you can feel throughout the truck literally having a cup and a cup holder and seeing everything shake
Does the torque converter have the same fluid body as the main transmission? Are they separate? Mine is vibrating in first gear coming out of a stop. Vibrates for half to full second.
Well.....I did put Motorcraft XL-3 in my Ranger which is a Ford. I've put it into other Ford transmissions also with good results. But, that isn't what it's specifically formulated for. All disclaimers in the video and description apply. Do it at your own risk. Also, there are other friction modifiers out there that can be used. Be sure to do your research on whatever you use.
2013 company transit shudders, slips, slams and constantly ends up in limp mode. Now it's finally making the whining like the torque converter is going. It's been in the shop countless times. I'm thinking they just over looked it. It also threw a code for a solenoid which was replaced. It's still doing the same thing. Hopefully it's fixed this time. Driving it like that for 6-8 hours a day is a exhausting
I had AAMCO replace my transmission and torque converter, but I'm still getting the rumble strip around 40km and 70km when I'm lightly on the gas. They said they everything is new and shouldnt continue, yet it does. Not sure what other steps to take?
@@BarboursAutoHelp the truck has been taken back and apparently they swapped the converter for the second time under warrenty. Still shudders around 40 and 70

I have an 06 tundra 4.0l. Did the same thing. Got a new one installed,35,000 miles later same thing. Found water in my transmission,so I’m fed up. I’m gonna drain the pan, change the filter and transmission gasket, fill it up with synthetic oil and drive it till it blows up. Tired of it.
Barbour's Auto Help Thank you. The Toyota tundras should have a recall on their radiators because the radiator broke where the transmission oil cools and that’s why I have water in my tranny. Got a new radiator, doing the job this weekend, fingers crossed.😇
I found that i just needed a new solenoid. Drain then take pan cover off. The solenoid is right there. 20ish bucks and some new fluid. Easy plug in fix.
Check your transmission cooler in the radiator!! You could be getting antifreeze mixing in your transmission fluid. If it has a side cooler or a cooler built into the engine radiator, it is very possible it could be leaking into your trans fluid. Good luck!
Torque converter shudder, like the one shown in the video, is a little different than a misfire. It's a more rapid succession of vibrations rather than a misfire. But.....I've had torque converter shudder feel like a misfire a couple of times. It's not common but it does happen.
It did not for my Ranger, unfortunately. However, I just recently had horrible torque converter shudder on my Edge. I put a half bottle in and It's been doing well. I plan on flushing the fluid in it soon and then adding another half bottle.
I just replace my Sonata tranny oil because of this. Now its driving worst. The mechanic says to give it a few days for the fluid to distribute. I think its the torque
Have you ever heard of Dr shudder fix before? I used it on a windstar and it worked, the amount of torque converter slippage value changed dramatically too per scan tool data while I was driving it. I was skeptical about it at first but now I'm sold on it. Isn't that friction modifier the additive Ford was adding to the earlier Superduty trucks in the rear differential? I remember that stuff stinking terribly,we would joke that it was whale sperm or something lol.
Hmm.. I've never had a cracked flywheel only cause a shudder at exactly 45 mph exactly when the torque converter clutch applies and not cause problems, or I should say noises, at any other speed and condition.

hey so i was totally agreeing with you on the sound description. i was just thinking how i’d explain the sound to someone and i thought about the rumble strip on roads but not as intense. for my car, it’s basically like a subwoofer bass sound. i notice the sound doesn’t happen when i turn overdrive off. is that a dead give away to change my converter? just did trans fluid and filter prior to this sound.
Thanks for sharing.
my '04 Dodge Dakota does this just before 30mph, just before 35mph and then just before 40mph but only if im accelerating slowly with very little throttle input. if i 'get on it', its fine. also only when its warmed up...
i did a double flush and fill and added 'shudder guard' or something like that (friction modifier) but it didnt clear up the issue. i guess, i need a new converter...
Is this solution basically the same as Lucas transmission?
Do u have 2 take apart the transmission 2 fill up the torque converter?? I know there is a drain plug ..but how do u fill it up with out taking it apart.. dose it fill up when u fill up the transmission??
Fill trans through dip tube converter will suck it up
Every Acura out there has this same problem. If they don't they will. Acura needs to step it up.
vibration when the car shifts can also be very worn out motor/transmission mounts.
That’s is totally different From a shutter
My buddy has a Mini Van FWD. As soon as he steps on the accelerator to drive, it sound and feels like the Transmission will explode. He takes his foot of the gas and it stops. But, sometimes, when he accelerate again, it will shudder again. It can take 2 or three tries before it will run normally... Would your solution work in his case? Thanks
I really couldn't tell you.
Hey I have an Audi A1 1.6 TDI, when I hit 40 mph I get severe judder, on motor, way, in 5th, if I slow down to around 50 due to traffic and pull away, it juddders bad.
When im doing like 60mhp I feel thr vibration. Pluse looks like my converter not set right. Think the fly wheel cracked too
We used Lucas Transmission Fix on my 2018 Explorer. Made a huge difference.
Unfortunately, I noticed it again the other day. :(
@@BarboursAutoHelp Well, crapadoodle. I'd say it's time for a new one, but from what I've run into before, if the torque converter is going, the transmission may not be long for this world either. Or not. 50/50. Hell, just ignore me. I haven't had my Geritol and Bourbon yet. How many miles on her?
If the fluid is black like the fluid you are pouring out of that converter, the clutch lining is gone. Those converters are known for that.
Great video - best description of this problem.
How long will the tranny/ torque converter last if you don't replace it (about how many miles)? I have the same problem on my 06 Ridgeline. only at 48mph to 55mph do i feel that shudder. I can always press the gas a little to make it go away. I have about 200,000 miles on my lil truck so far.... want many more miles. Thanks for the input!
Hello Mate
Everything you said is exactly the problem I have on my Mazda CX-9 2008.
God bless you
Stay safe
Yeah thia symptoms is same on my job now. 2008 ford expedition here in pH.
Most, all, transmissions that I am familiar with, both used the same fluid.
My friend can you use ford xL-3 friction modifier on ford AUTOMATIC transmissions?
Well.....I did put Motorcraft XL-3 in my Ranger which is a Ford. I've put it into other Ford transmissions also with good results. But, that isn't what it's specifically formulated for. All disclaimers in the video and description apply. Do it at your own risk. Also, there are other friction modifiers out there that can be used. Be sure to do your research on whatever you use.
yes ur right this worked on all 90,s f150 with e4od , always chatter in lockup especially if u used amsiol ,this worked
Well, you could take it back to them and let them know that it's still doing this. Have you already taken it back to them?
@@BarboursAutoHelp the truck has been taken back and apparently they swapped the converter for the second time under warrenty. Still shudders around 40 and 70
@@codycolbourne2328 Do they think it may be something else, like a misfire?
I got a 05 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.7 hemi that has torque converter shudder been through 3 transmission
Its there also a Problem with the v6 engine?
Will it also cause the car to jolt/jump forward around 50-60 mph
I wouldn't think so.
would a few ounces of lucas trans fix work the same as a modifier?? 2003 lincoln tc.. simular issues had fluid filter and gasket done last month.. been thinking it needs a bit of a viscosity agent.
I've not tried lucas for this application before. Not sure.
I feel your pain, Sir. Mine still isn't fixed. Good luck to you, however.
Dr. Emmitt Brown III Really? For a 2006 tundra 4.0
Check your transmission cooler in the radiator!! You could be getting antifreeze mixing in your transmission fluid. If it has a side cooler or a cooler built into the engine radiator, it is very possible it could be leaking into your trans fluid. Good luck!
My tcc solenoid was bad on mine
03 Ford has the same problem at the same mph
Can an engine misfire cause this issue too?
Torque converter shudder, like the one shown in the video, is a little different than a misfire. It's a more rapid succession of vibrations rather than a misfire. But.....I've had torque converter shudder feel like a misfire a couple of times. It's not common but it does happen.
Thanks man, that seems exactly my problem.
No problem 👍
Did the fluid work?
It did not for my Ranger, unfortunately. However, I just recently had horrible torque converter shudder on my Edge. I put a half bottle in and It's been doing well. I plan on flushing the fluid in it soon and then adding another half bottle.
Very helpful thank you
I just replace my Sonata tranny oil because of this. Now its driving worst. The mechanic says to give it a few days for the fluid to distribute. I think its the torque
Thanks for info .. first person watching
Just had my torque converter replaced and guess what it’s still doing it 😭😭 now what?!
Even though you drive a Ford! Thanks for the helpful videyooouuuuu.
Carport Shenanigans has a great video, same problem, shows a great video on replacing valves in the valve body. Enjoy :)
Do you have a link to the video and can you post that link please? Thanks.
Thanks a lot of helpful info
I get shudder over 80 only
My transmission now identifies as a A-10 warthog!! Brrrrrrrrt
Then I like your transmission!!! A-10s=MERICA!
@@BarboursAutoHelp 😂🤣 I was going to run VIBES on transmission and driveshaft, my GE-F110-400 troubleshooting almost kicked in 🤣😂
You can tell a lot about a man by how dirty the dash is and looking under the seats too
Perfect description
Glad you think so!
@@BarboursAutoHelp my F150 doing it now and that’s how I was describing it… so did it work and/ or for how long ?
I don't hear it I just feel the shudder...on my Lincoln mkx...does it now sometimes even at 60 mph but not often..it's usually around 40
Thanks for sharing.
my dashboard is so dirty. such a dirty little thing.
Yea, mine is still dirty.
Nice disceiption

Yea, I'm cool with that......next.
YES YES YES
You kinda sound like snoop
Dogg
You know, you're not the first person to say that... I don't hear it personally.
My dash is dustier than Bee Arthur's britches
Well, OK. I'm not sure what to make of that example, but, I'm glad I'm not the only one with a dusty dash. lol
@@BarboursAutoHelp I said the same exact thing when I saw Bea Arthur in the Star Wars Holiday special.
Sounds like a cracked fly wheel
Hmm.. I've never had a cracked flywheel only cause a shudder at exactly 45 mph exactly when the torque converter clutch applies and not cause problems, or I should say noises, at any other speed and condition.
