there is a lot of discussion on this type of issue on the internet. I had similar problem on my 2015 f150 4x4. ford could not find the problem as the error code never would store. f150 discussion board suggested the throttle body was the culprit, ford would not go with that. finally it stalled out and stored the code, I ended up taking it to a non-ford repair shop. I also suggested the throttle body. that mech did the diagnotic testing and had reason to suspect the TB, so I told him I would pay for it, replacing the throttlebody did fix the problem.

If anyone is still having issues on this, double check ALL map sensor connectors. Sensors will throw a code but if your not getting a code, a worn out connector might be your issue.
The "wrench" sign is called "SERVICE VEHICLE SOON". When it comes on the dealer will use a scan too to see exactly what triggered it. The owner's manual is misleading because they mentioned "power train" which makes you think it's something with the transmission but in fact the powertrain includes a lot of things, including the air/fuel/ exhaust etc. I saw that symbol come on when I forgot to plug in the mass airflow sensor after the car misfires

Throttle body is my guess If it’s the stock throttle body, it’s electronic and ford has had issues with them for quite some time now. Fortunately it’s 4 bolts and clip to change out yourself.
I've worked on diesels, and old V8's, but not these new electronic engines much at all, so this throttle body change makes me wonder if it's my issue. Gone into limp mode 4 times overall so far, coming up with different gauge warnings every time, making me think the PCM is getting mixed up on the causes too. This throttle body replacement sounds pretty simple, so it's definitely something I'll keep in mind!. When looking at throttle bodies at different locations, there are several companies that make them...is there one that works best out of the number of different brands available? Unsure which one is OEM?

I had a 2017 Ford Fusion Sport that went into ‘limp mode’ a couple times. It would happen normally when I would slow down and then mash on the accelerator. It ended up being a faulty crankcase position sensor. Hope this helps
Did you ever figure out the problem? My 2019 Expedition wrench light came on and check engine light, and the transmission started shifting hard, no turbo boost when I accelerate, etc. Then I turned it off for 10 minutes and the wrench/check engine lights never came back on and drove normal again but I’m still concerned about future problems.
2018 Expediton Max keeps having front collsion sensor not available message pop up and then it goes into limp mode. Always happens on long trips while driving on highway. Never stores a code and dealer never uts any effort into it since there is no code. REALLY getting old.
That’s what happens when you add that many modifications. I’m on my 3rd F-150 & have had nearly zero issues. Only issue was the multifunction switch went bad on my 2015 & that was a $70 self fix that took me 1 hour to replace in my driveway. Truck has 80k miles & no issues.
I have 2015 F-150 XLT 5.0 with no codes but have sluggish acceleration/reduced power. Changed the sparks plugs and checked other common problems nothing but there is a small exhaust leak could that be my problem?

Wow, my wrench light on my 08 Mustang GT was coming on and car going into limp mode a couple weeks ago. Took it to the dealer last Wednesday and they told me it was the throttle body. Funny thing is, the issue hasn't presented itself since 3 days before I took it to the dealership to get checked.
My 2016 F150 5.0 just had the yellow wrench light come on and the engine fan was blowing high. I checked my fluids and the radiator fluid was really low. Hopefully that was the only problem, but now i gotta figure out why or how it leaked fluid...
What axle do you have? It may not be able to handle the amount of power it’s putting out and it may default to a safety mode if it’s detecting possible slippage with the gears
My son has the same problem with his 2015 F-150. It is stock with no modifications and gets serviced regularly at the dealer. Wrench icon=rough idle=loss of power. When you shut it down and restart it resets to normal. Took it to the dealer who could find no record of the code-sound familiar? though it happened twice within 3 days of the appointment.
From the looks of that air filter, I would change it and that sensor in the filter hose. That will cause the "wrench" to pop up intermittently. Usually you'll get a sensor code 1st that results in a "Check engine light". The light typically goes out and then the "wrench" starts appearing. But it can also be as bad a the transmission or 4X4.
my 2010 f150 just started today doing the same thing , but i have a blue wrench. You mention that it might the throttle body. Did you replace the throttle body and if, so did it fix it?
I went into limp mode with my 2019 mustang gt as well. It was when using the line lock and I got a little carried away and the car didnt like the high rpm. Let it sit overnight and the codes all dissapeared
Similar thing is happening to my base model 2017 F-150 5.0L 2WD (yes I actually have manual windows). I go to pass somebody who is going slow and the truck starts misfiring and bogging when I accelerate and climb higher RPMs, it even happens in sport mode, which really makes me uneasy. The wrench icon didn't pop up but my check engine light is on and has been on since I bought the truck a month ago from a Chevy dealer, which they said may be an O2 sensor fault (O2 sensor didn't matter as I had plans for an exhaust during that time). Funny thing is this all started happening after I got my catless Flowmaster exhaust installed, but before the exhaust was ever even put on, the truck was running fine in all modes. Idk what is wrong with my truck but I do know it isn't funny at all for that to be happening. I love love LOVE this truck, despite that I was actually wanting a 2019 Sierra 6.2L 4WD. I hope nothing too serious is wrong with the truck. I checked my oil life and it turns out the dealer forgot to reset it after the free oil change. I reset it myself so hopefully that helped it, but who knows. I just know that I can't stand when my truck, let alone any truck or car, misfires or bogs for any reason big or small.
This happened to me yesterday with 10R80 trans, the problem starts when the dash indicates wrench sign for the limp mode then the trans shifting went weird like its doing hard shifting from 1st to 2nd and shifts from 2nd to 8th gear to 10th… when slowing down its laying from 8th to 2nd gear directly. i scan it with SCT and no code is shown ….. the trans temprature sensor was not working correctly and it shows me -40 to 20 …. So i ask my bro who own a workshop he said that car may have an engine throttle issue or one of 9 sensors went bad. And I found your vlog and its very helpful thanks dear
"It's your fault! I am not kidding" That would be the last time I would help him out. It's a modified FORD. Pretty easy thing to figure out. Brian just saved him a $100 service appointment.
I had a problem very similiar to this in my 2015 F150 when the throttle body went bad and needed to be replaced. Truck would be driving down the road fine, then a message on the dash popped up saying hill climb assist deactivated and to see the manual. Truck would stop shifting and limp along until I turned it off, then once it turned back on it would act normal until it's next spell.
Good morning everyone, I have a problem with f150 2004 when I reach 45 miles, the wrench appears, I checked the scanner, I returned code p2106, any suggestions?
Throttle body is probably stuck open happens a lot with these trucks and could be on back order but you use to work at a dealership so I’d ask a old coworker to see if they can pull any codes from the truck
Did you ever find anything? I have a 2015 5.0 and this wrench comes on, truck goes into limp mode and no codes stored. Keeps stalling at idle but then will just go away with no record of it happening. I’m doing a transmission flush and fill tomorrow. Hopefully that fixes it. Could you please share if you found anything? I appreciate it.
Don’t know if you ever fixed it but I was getting a bunch of lights at once parking break, wrench light , check 4x4, abs , advance hill start off, advanced trac off, and my truck would go into limp mode (lack of power) couldn’t figure it out until I saw a post about a guy having his wiring harness rub threw by the radiator and sure enough same problem here they all melted together don’t even know how o didn’t get a fire but cut and spliced them to there proper wire and bam no more issues!
Upgrade to 3 bar maf sensors, also the TB will cause this limp mode problem, peddle doesnt tell the throttle plate to open accurately through the rpm curve, throws it in limp mode to avoid detonation.. its a fail safe thing
My raptor turbos aren’t working anymore after getting the wrench. All i did was heavily accelerate to around 50mph to get in front of traffic, and i got the wrench
My 2011 F150 is doing this but also throwing the battery light and then they turn off after it comes back to life, and it has a brand new battery. Im lost with it
Ok, I have a 2016 F150 Ecoboost 4X4 and I've gotten 3 limp mode activations in a week, including one this morning..embarrasing, holding up traffic! First one, I got the 'wrench' a 'Traction Control' warning, as well as a 'Hill assist not activated'. This first time, the truck would not do over 5 mph, and was shaking somewhat...and all 3 times, it's been within 3 or 4 blocks from home, in the morning. Second time...just the 'Hill Assist not activating', and third time 'Service Advance Track' was the warning! Initially, after the first time, I took it to the dealer, and was told the PCM needed to be reprogrammed. That was $480.00, and after that I had a trip to see my brother planned, which we took (400 miles) and the truck ran like a champ! Get it home, and it's back to 'limping' again...and all have came up at either 'stopped at a light' or one was at a low speed. A restart of the engine, with a 20 second gap, and it runs fine again. I don't want to take it to the dealer, and find they've put on 6 or 7 parts, to find it's still doing it, or that they finally found it after spending far too many $$, thinking they should have found it without all these unneeded parts! They always tell me, it's $175.00 an hour, when looking at my truck as well, so being a dealer sure is a money making/profit designed entity! Idea's guys/gals? BTW - truck is stock, all with OEM parts.
I had the same issue w/ my 2016 ecoboost. Took it to the dealer and they found my battery was weak (original w/ 160k miles) and not having enough amperage to push needed voltage, even though battery was showing 12.5 volts. Replaced it and has been running fine since. Were you able to resolve your issue?

AutoVlog Great Video I'm glad that Brian figured out that your Supercharged F-150 is having a Throttle body problem and I'm glad you're getting a another and that your Supercharged F-150s Lift kit ix finally in and I can't wait to see it on
Wow, my wrench light on my 08 Mustang GT was coming on and car going into limp mode a couple weeks ago.
Maybe it’s low on cailtlyn jenner fluid
What exhaust are you running, what would be best for a 2013 f150 5.7?
What's the difference between the check engine light and the wrench light and why these 2 different symbols any information about this?
Yo Mike! Finally another upload!👍
What axle do you have? It may not be able to handle the amount of power it’s putting out and it may default to a safety mode if it’s detecting possible slippage with the gears
what's that 4th dial at the end it keeps going from hot to cold? maybe the ecu thinks your transmission is overheating?
Most likely that nasty ass filter gunked up the throttle body.. and its sticking
This is exactly the issue i have right now with my truck how can i fix it?
Hey I have a 2013 Ford F-150 limited the wrench is coming out and the speedometer drops
It seems you have built a very wonderful and somewhat undependable truck, these are the joys of the aftermarket world of constant problems and issues.
I just had this happen to me today. What was it? Mine says 4wd and error on my ford pass app
TIME FOR THE TREMORRRRR
Yes!
Yes sir
Agreed 🤤
Hopefully NOT,one garbage ford is enough.
Have you tried resetting the ECU, then reflashing it with your mods ?
Did you get this fixed??
From the looks of that air filter, I would change it and that sensor in the filter hose. That will cause the "wrench" to pop up intermittently. Usually you'll get a sensor code 1st that results in a "Check engine light". The light typically goes out and then the "wrench" starts appearing. But it can also be as bad a the transmission or 4X4.
my 2010 f150 just started today doing the same thing , but i have a blue wrench. You mention that it might the throttle body. Did you replace the throttle body and if, so did it fix it?
I think you should get a intake box that will seal against the hood. Having the open element in your truck not good. What's up with the wiring?
My raptor I can go ten miles down the road and a big wrench pops up I don't know what causes it, did you ever get it fixed? What was it if you did.
Did you ever figure out what was causing the misfires? Going through the same thing right now
Should have gone with the ROUSH
Definitely should have gone with roush or Hennessy
Yup I was looking at purchasing a Roush or just putting a supercharger on a new truck... after all these problems i would say go with the warranty.
Is the gear indicator on the dash showing that it's shifting through the gears when you take off?
Have you cleaned the throttle body at all??
Did you ever find anything? I have a 2015 5.0 and this wrench comes on, truck goes into limp mode and no codes stored. Keeps stalling at idle but then will just go away with no record of it happening. I’m doing a transmission flush and fill tomorrow. Hopefully that fixes it. Could you please share if you found anything? I appreciate it.
Did you find a resolution?
Don’t know if you ever fixed it but I was getting a bunch of lights at once parking break, wrench light , check 4x4, abs , advance hill start off, advanced trac off, and my truck would go into limp mode (lack of power) couldn’t figure it out until I saw a post about a guy having his wiring harness rub threw by the radiator and sure enough same problem here they all melted together don’t even know how o didn’t get a fire but cut and spliced them to there proper wire and bam no more issues!
My truck is a 2014 f-150 I weld the muffler after that it just wont do anything it shuts off if I go forward or reverse
My 2016 Camaro ss is having this problem right now and i can’t seem to find the problem
Were you able to resolve your issue?
you can't shift manually if its in the "D"rive mode. It has to be in "M"anual mode
have you fixed the limp mode problem? any follow up?
