But truly, the original Flintstones poked fun at 60s Americana. We've always made fun of a generation's problems throughout pop culture. Do people really think a modern reimagining wouldn't do the same, especially from the same push that brought us Scooby friggin' Apocalypse? Much as I don't like being reminded of modern problems, I also don't wanna rag on anyone who finds these satirical allegories comforting. As dark as this comic is, there plenty of folks out there who can appreciate jabs at the source material, even visceral ones.
While the themes of this reboot aren't my thing, this also doesn't rUiN aN eXiStInG fRaNcHiSe. Do kids these days even know who the characters are on the little multivitamins and gummies? And if that's such a big deal, why not point them back to the classics?

It went woke in a perfect way though, it portrayed the issues in a interesting way, for example Fred was a soldier who was involved with the tree people massacre, in most woke products Fred would of been the main characters father and the constant idiot with the wrong opinion, instead they used his "old" school beliefs to contrast how the world has changed for better and worse, it shows that just because you think the world would be a better place if we just do a or b that it isn't as simple and shows that no matter what happens a man should protect his family, I feel the story is a better disection of a old fashioned family man dealing with a modern woke world he helped build but doesn't recognise

Flintstones was just "The Honeymooners". Honestly, The Honeymooners was kinda the prime archetype for many sitcoms to come after it. Fred not finishing high school was very common back then since a lot of people didn't finish or if they did they could finish with a trade and outright skip college. Honestly this was the early points where they tried to present that "college was the way out" Thus became something extremely abused now where people young and dumb going into college and getting slapped with debt now.
Flintstone's meta ALWAYS been on the nose, hell a majority of cartoon male leads are JUST an adaption of Fred. You can really tell in Homer Simpson. Fred was blunt he'll say what's on his mind in many an episode even if it'll lead him to trouble. That's why it works well in the comic, that bluntness is something refreshing.

I read very few of those Hanna-Barbera Beyond comics, but it seems like a lot of them were updated to reflect changing values in the face of the original works. Some, like Flintstones, updated their satire; others, like Scooby Apocalypses and Wacky Raceland, which opted for a grittier feel and thus feel like weird fanfiction.
I didn't read a *lot* of them, but I know Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepuss Chronicles was fairly well-received and depicts life as a gay man in the 1950s, which is an interesting but not unexpected twist for Snagglepuss, being as he is ambiguously gay in the source material.
The ones I read were Future Quest and Dastardly and Muttley. The former is a straight action story inspired by the two-fisted tales of the time, and is therefore the least deconstructive of the series. Then there's Dastardly and Muttley, which is... dark. It's written by Garth Ennis, so of course it is, but it's a doomsday story about elder gods mixed with cartoon characters that manages to make cartoon physics more horrifying than they usually are. It's a story I've thought about a lot and still can't get out of my head to this day, even as I was put off by the ending.
It was a weird line, and I'm glad something good came out of it that's still being talked about, even as memes.

I always loved the Flintstones and my grandma fueled it even more when I was younger because she had told me something I never thought was true and I'm still on the fence until I can get my grandma to talk to me about him, but she had told me that one of the key animators on the original Flintstones series was a man in our family I don't remember specifics since I was like 8 when she told me this. I really want to know who he was because I love drawing and animations and If I knew who he was I think I'd be able to meet him, if he's still alive, or take a look at his old art he may have done, Thank you for reminding me of this so I can ask my grandma soon!

Same here. However is this “woke”? It’s just talking about a way of life that existed in our (at least my) parents days. Same as that awesome Snagglepuss Cartoon about the Cold War and McCarthism being a parallel to Stalins autocracy.
Especially compared to Stalins 2nd in command. A pudgy out of shape man who hated dancing but when Stalin told him to do the Cossack (?) dance (the one where you fold your arms and kick out your feet) he said “when Stalin says dance YOU DANCE!”

Not that I sit in my chair as a 23 year old, I like it for how contradictory the time period is when paired with the topics that I now understand better, albeit not completely. Unfortunately, lots of BAD writers have been the ones to address these problems recently. The idea's are worth while in these cases but oh man, there's been some cringey crap that has happened in comics (and media in general) that put message over writing.
