I love the star spangled briefs. It makes sense that she would dress like a superhero and not an Amazon. She left the island. Granted, she didn't design the armour, but it makes perfect sense that her aesthetic appeals to the American gaze where she's serving rather than the Amazon style of her culture.
I like when she has more Amazonian outfits too, but star spangled briefs are a perfect microcosm of Diana's immigrant status and alienation from home.

    • @GoldLight73
      @GoldLight73 Рік тому +14

@@zyaicob That's certainly an understandable viewpoint. However, I feel like even in DC we already have some pretty "American" heroes. Superman is obviously the first that comes to mind in that respect, though of course Stargirl and even Captain Atom can fit the mold as well. I'm of the opinion that Wonder Woman feels more interesting playing up the Amazonian aspect of her character (without the isolationist mindset, of course.)
But that's just my personal preference. To each their own.

That was clearly not my case, I just said that I have proof that Starfire was written and designed that way because if she had to be that way then that means all Tameranians had to be that way as well; but since their isn’t male Tameranians that are like that, it’s obvious that she was designed for male gaze. Cis woman here who is a huge feminist and I wanna give my two cents here
There is NOTHING wrong with the way Wonder Woman dresses Imo. It's less about her character design and more about how she's written and how whatever medium she's in portrays her. If Wonder Woman is written as.. you know, a strong, independent warrior who absolutely revels in fights and poses a threat to the enemies, that's great! The issue rises when writers start applying too much of the male gaze on her by writing sexual jokes which are completely out of left field or giving WW like 50 ass or boobs shots, that's bad. That's what I DON'T want. Just writer her like any other character and keep her outfit realistically modest (I do think that the panties are a bit too impractical- she'd easily get a wedgie while fighting! Shorts or a Skort would do better for her)
Again, Wonder Woman should represent female empowerment and we also need female empowerment for women who enjoy dressing more femininely with skin revealing clothing! Those women deserve good representation too without being called wh*res or sl*ts for dressing so! But that's my opinion. Pants or no pants, Wonder Woman is always gorgeous to me :)

I think the reason Jim Lee's pants design don't work is because they're just pants. The don't match anything from rest of her costume. Color blocking wise the focus just goes to her torso. The DCyou design works better because it flows well with the rest. Another good pants design is the Stan Lee's Wonder Woman design which was also designed by Jim Lee I think. I get the idea of women still being able to be attractive and strong to be good, but here its different, its more keeping the amazonian roots (from a culture that wouldnt think that outfit is contraversial) so changing the design is only pandering to people who arent even reading the comics. I agree with the battle skirt tho, the greek (or roman i suck at geography) style skirt is a solid resign choice, which the movie probably got the best when it comes to blending it in with modern tones in comics, not too loud or colorful but it doesnt take away from her character. I think part of it may be fans are just so used to a certain, basic look. Traditionally, Wonder Woman showed her legs along with her shoulders and cleavage. It's kinda her trademark and it's an iconic look. Hence the negative reaction to such a drastic change in appearance. I think a lot of fans would also feel the same if, let's say, Black Widow changed over to a skimpy, skin baring costume as opposed to her iconic catsuit that covered her from neck to toe. I heard when Susan Storm wore a skimpy FF outfit for a while in the 90's, it wasn't well received. Fans were just not used to seeing her like that. The same negative reception also happened to Vampirella when she got a major costume overhaul. The classic red skimpy outfit was replaced with an outfit that made her look like Claire Redfield from Resident Evil. Needless to say, that was soon dropped, and her classic look was restored.

Some guys feel personally attacked when their fantasies aren't catered to specifically. They worry that giving into even the most mundane of "feminist" criticisms will lead to the comics losing it's identity and just being the characters giving left wing talking points instead of adventuring. While some overcorrections do happen (in all media), usually these reaction way out of proportion to the change proposed. Basically it's an obsessive stop of the slippery slope to prevent "SJW Cringe" instead of just changing things in a way that's less catered to male fanservice.
Personally I don't get it from an in-universe perspective: Superheroes and MK characters get thrown through concrete all the time, If anything they should be wearing thick work/tactical pants or motorcycle gear all the time to prevent road rash.

Kitana was sexier in Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance than in the later Mortal Kombat games.

@@rvawildcardwolf2843 If the female character is wearing a sexy outfit, like Wonder Woman with the blue panties with white stars like the 1990s designs were, or Kitana with the sexy outfit she wore in the 2005 game Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance that was sexier than the outfits in the later Mortal Kombat games, that can give the guy great ideas for something sexy for a gal he likes to wear something like that for him.

I love the 2015 armored look, but my one issue is that it looks too much like big Barda. Maybe some backstory, like she visits Barda and upgrades her gear? IDK

Wait, Wonder Woman too? I knew about the backlash to Chun-Li wearing sweatpants, which is dumb because they're sweatpants, stretchy and easy to kick with and really not much different from her tights. Also, she wore sweatpants in SFAlpha and no one complained (it was probably a reflection of the fact that her original design was meant to have pants) and no one ever cared about Cammy getting pants in Wreck-it Ralph or with the Jill Valentine costume in SFV. It's almost as though it has nothing to do with the sweatpants in this case too.

Well I mean the Wreck-it-Ralph thing was just a cameo and a background gag. Nothing more. Also I’m pretty sure it’s just due to the fact that a lotta people are just more emotional now for some reason

Worst thing I can say about Wonder Woman in pants is that sometimes the outfit looks weird compared to how I’m used, but it still works as long as it’s not bad, just make the costume not bad, she can still be sexy and strong just don’t make her an object or look like crap, writers

What, so ironic the creator of wonder woman was Polly who had two wives. He had a lot of respect for women.

I will never understand how people look at Wonder Woman and see her as nothing more than a sexual icon. I'm saying this as a man so I can't act like I know entirely what the right perception of her is or how women perceive her, but I associate WW so much as a symbol of empowerment and speaking out against oppressive society, that it actually feels gross and sick for me ever attempting to see her in a lustful manner and makes me even more uncomfortable when other people do it. For example let's swap perspectives: you wouldn't look at Captain America as only this hunked up beef cake would you?

That’s good. If I had to guess its likely because her most iconic costume is basically a onesie swimsuit. I know they say don’t judge a book by its cover but that’s more then likely the first costume people think of when they think of Wonder Woman.
