That Viper rips, naturally aspirated 505 pounds at the wheels. This race is an example of what I've learned at an early age: No replacement for displacement. Almost 40 hp and 50 tq at the wheels with an exhaust and a tune is impressive I don't know why he was disappointed.
There are other factors besides just the engines and the power they're making. The viper weighs less and has better aero that is an automatic advantage. Rpm is how to make power with less displacement that is why the gt350 has similar likely more hp than this huge 8 liter viper v10. It revs high and has very high flowing heads etc. The v10 in this order viper ecsp makes its power with alot of displacement has lots of torque don't Rev near as high and don't need to. You can say yea if you revved a v10 to 8k it would make alot more power yea but there is a replacement for displacement it's called revving higher and dohc. Boost is also a replacement for displacement. Yea if you everything the same on both more displacement usually makes more power but it depends on the overall setup. Saying there isn't a replacement for displacement isn't really true
I used to say that all the time when I was younger and in school learning. But it's 2022 man. the replacement for displacement is advancements in technology. Efficiency being one of the big ones.
@@ahhasongen 5 viper engine was at 645 hp. similar technology to the gt350 featured here if anything comparatively dated design but still makes significantly more power. Advances in technology and more efficient designs can help reach peak numbers similar to higher displacement but if both are getting the same treatment displacement wins. More power with less rpm needed and flatter + wider powerband. that's why there's so many 3000+ hp viper builds on factory engines.

Always so satisfying when people go for a connected exhaust like a 2 into 1 or x/h pipe. sounds like a true v8 or v10 with it instead of 2 4cylinders or 2 5cylinders
Most people would have had half the video just being montages with some weird electro music. You never even see this guys face. Good evidence that its a car channel and not a "I'm a rich kid and like to buy expensive cars" channel.

@@CoyoteFTW imma be real sum abt these vipers sounds kinda odd, it sounds like someone making the sound with their mouth, but some exhausts like this really open it up
The moment I saw those headers, I knew this was the real deal. And you're doing it properly too, with a high flow cat and all, no cutting out necessary emission controls here. I definitely appreciate that. You can have high performance and good noise with a cat.
@@deeppurplefan you can get cats that run so smooth you get flames straight through anyway. Might as well not have them but they're for states that require them to be there, for whatever reason
The exhaust itself attributes to about 15hp-20hp of that power. The custom tune is where you got most of the power. You would have gained 30hp just with a tune even without an aftermarket exhaust
I have to say, I've watched this video numerous times and if there was a 101 course on the "why" and "how" tuning works the way you articulate everything is absolutely perfect and explained incredibly well!
I love that you tried multiple types of racing. Not just the best one for your car, you gave the mustang the higher RPM it needed. I would love to see a rematch
That's quite a difference, the Viper actually sounded alot like my old Audi S8 before you had the resonators removed. That sound definately worked for the S8 but for the Viper removing the resonators was a great call. It sounds incredible and the car looks beautiful.
This is one of the best automotive videos out there. Between the visual aids on the dyno, the clear instructions for installing the exhaust, and fan service with the race, you did an amazing job.
To be honest, I liked the sound more when the resonator was on. It's all about personal preference though. That being said your video is very interesting, current top comments really describe my thoughts about how you kept the video straight to the point without extra fancy details. I wanted to see exactly this content and you delivered perfectly. Thank you for this video !
I was thinking exactly the same. I like engine sounds, not "pipe" sounds. The resonator dampened those ear piercing pipe resonances and it sounded like a muscular V10. Without it, its 50% pipe screams on top of the V10 But if the goal is to achieve the maximum performance possible, he gained some hp taking it away
@@tractorguy1994 @Lucas I agree with both of you, indeed performance gain was the goal but sound-wise, I'd definitely go with the resonator on ! If it's just about performance it's not that much of a loss, it's mostly just "aesthetics" so not really necessary.
Hooooly craaap once the resonator was deleted I could literally hear that beast breathing like it deserves. This is probably the classiest viper I've seen but it is absolutely the best sounding. Good stuff!
I just love your style of videos. They're so efficient yet of course, covers the highlights of being there. That ... and the V10 really just has such a beautiful sound. Keep up the great work.
I like the look with the side panels off tbh, also definitely liked the sound better with the resonators on but you can't beat such a simple & effective performance gain.
This is one of my dream cars since I was a child. I'd like to add I'm Italian and have lived in Europe all of my life, grown up loving Ferraris and driving Alfa Romeos. Still as a 6 year old kid I would walk around the streets with a blue Viper GTS model in my hands, I used to drive it carefully on smooth floors not, always careful not to scratch it. The sad thing is that this car is pretty much impossible to see in Europe, I have never seen it in person while revving its engine up higher than normal city cruising. Thanks for this in depth video, seeing the detailed torque and power curves with the fuel mix explanations was really nice. I liked the stock feel of your aftermarket exhaust before the muffler delete! It really valorized that v10 crank noise that makes the viper so special. The final result is stunning though, I appreciate your effort to find the maximum potential of this magnificent car, without ruining its essence.

I think the stock exhaust was so quiet because many people found the sound of a V10 unpleasant compared to a highly tuned V8 or I6. Especially an odd fire 90deg V10 compared to a 72deg evenfire V10. I think the Viper V10 was a huge boondoggle, if they would have used an aluminum block 8-8.3L low deck B block or a 426-440ci LA/Magnum/R3 based aluminum block with the proper sound and an available auto it would uave sold more and would still be in production to the point if eventually having a 6.4L, Hellcat or Helliphant.
I came; the Viper is a feat of engineering that will never be replicated. In 2022 it's still stomping cars due to how torquey it is. Also love how you tune it properly. Great vid!
What are you talking about? Fiat could litterally remake it, if there were demand for it. Nor is it even that special, it's litterally just a big engine in a front engined sports car. That was the whole point!

Resonators don’t really restrict flow, they just reduce the raspiness that most engines make. Personally I would have gotten rid of the high flow cats and left the resonators but not my car so
I loved having a loud exhaust until I bought a Mustang with a rear seat delete.... then it wasn't so cool anymore. The exhaust sound swirled around the cabin and I couldn't even hear myself think. Adding a "medium loud" catback fixed this problem.
Love the viper. This exhaust kit is sick. We have very different tastes in exhaust notes. I think it sounds like a generic steezy Mustang without the resonators. The burps the original exhaust kit made was really neat
I agree. Not that I've ever owned a viper, but from what I've heard they've always had a somewhat muted, smooth sound. When he removed the resonators it was almost a bit.... too much. To me, the viper was never the flashy "look at me" type sound. It was just the respected "I'm the biggest and best and I know it."

Still one of the greatest cars ever made. Imagine if Viper hadn’t been corked from factory, and came with 600+hp like it should have back then.
And the GT350 is arguably the greatest Mustang ever made.
oh hell no your high fastbacks are way better
I will agree with your final statement if you're talking about the 1965/66 GT350s.
I will agree the Viper is one of the best sports cars ever made. The GT350 is nice, but imo the 1966 Shelby cobra super snake(Also making a new 2022 model), or Elanor 1967 Shelby gt500 are the best looking. There's a few companies doing full on high end replica restomod cars and they are so nice.
The GT350 is the best modern mustang imo. I absolutely adore the engine.
@@Gobbbbb the modern GT500 is too little too late, and just more of the same all go no finesse supercharged BS. The GT350 however was kind of special. They had to discontinue production because it took all the shine from the 500.
Agree with a bunch of the comments below about the quality of this video. Easy to watch the entire thing and stay interested. No fluff, direct and to the point, but covers everything. Great Vid!!,
My husband and I just got same car from neighbor. They are retiring and want to sell. My husband use it for weekend dates North to Fernandina or South to St. Augustine on the most beautiful beach side road. A1A. Its actually very comfy too. Much better than our bumpy truck or old 90s defender. Owner asked us not to change anything and if we do to let him know. My husband shook on it.
I watched & enjoyed every second of the video. This is how automotive content should be simple & straight to the point. No annoying intro . No obnoxious music . No overused B rolls
Keep up the good work
Exhaust sounds amazing, but I'm really impressed at how clean looking that Viper is from being a 2000 model. Great job
Cars with half the displacement produce more torque and power, there is replacement for displacement, still love the viper tho
There's a destroked viper track car on youtube making upwards of 600hp to the wheels at 8000rpm redline, that car sounds so much nicer in my opinion.
I love your raw and accurate information. No gimmicky bs. The world needs more of this kind of content.

So true. I was gonna skip to the exhaust sound part but i saw the entire video❤️
Always so satisfying when people go for a connected exhaust like a 2 into 1 or x/h pipe.
sounds like a true v8 or v10 with it instead of 2 4cylinders or 2 5cylinders
Wow a no bull straight to the point channel (which is a rare thing btw). Love what you did to the Viper. Sounds awesome. Subbed

i don't particularly like the idle without the resonators. sounded good with the new exhaust though.
The moment I saw those headers, I knew this was the real deal. And you're doing it properly too, with a high flow cat and all, no cutting out necessary emission controls here. I definitely appreciate that. You can have high performance and good noise with a cat.
It's no fun unless you cut out the cat and shoot fireballs.

The exhaust itself attributes to about 15hp-20hp of that power. The custom tune is where you got most of the power. You would have gained 30hp just with a tune even without an aftermarket exhaust
that is perplexing because this is not an economy car; you would think the stock tune would be putting out optimal power in a manual RWD sports car.
Yes definitely the best way to do it. He just wanted both cars performing at their best.
Gearing can make up for higher rpm of an engine. The gt350 has much shorter gearing, meaning that it reaches higher rpm at a lower speed vs the viper.
That's quite a difference, the Viper actually sounded alot like my old Audi S8 before you had the resonators removed. That sound definately worked for the S8 but for the Viper removing the resonators was a great call. It sounds incredible and the car looks beautiful.

Well done video! The upgraded exhaust before you cut the resonators sounded perfect in my opinion
I'll have to bring my C6 out there eventually. Surprised how nicely that kit installs on a Viper, never would have expected that
Indeed we'll sync up eventually
Without it, its 50% pipe screams on top of the V10
But if the goal is to achieve the maximum performance possible, he gained some hp taking it away
I thought this at first as well but after seeing the power gain my decision changed.
@@tractorguy1994 @Lucas I agree with both of you, indeed performance gain was the goal but sound-wise, I'd definitely go with the resonator on ! If it's just about performance it's not that much of a loss, it's mostly just "aesthetics" so not really necessary.
It could’ve been different in real life too
Agreed! With the resonator removed it makes it sound cheap lol like those Honda civics
almost 30 yrs later the GTS is still a stunner. With the 2005 Ford GT is my favourite US made vehicle of the past decades

That ... and the V10 really just has such a beautiful sound. Keep up the great work.
I like the look with the side panels off tbh, also definitely liked the sound better with the resonators on but you can't beat such a simple & effective performance gain.
yeah but the backs of the calfs won't like it when you try to get out
I also think it sounded beter with resonators.

@@Orcawhale1 the fact that it's a big engine in a sports car makes it special enough for me! Basically any tuner would think a big engine and sports car equal special LOL

That resonator was much more restrictive than I imagined. Thanks for the great content.
Resonators don’t really restrict flow, they just reduce the raspiness that most engines make. Personally I would have gotten rid of the high flow cats and left the resonators but not my car so
That's what I was thinking, did he remove the high-flow cats but say 'resonators' in the video?
Whatever he did, the car sounds like it belongs to a teenage douche bag now. Way too crude.
I loved having a loud exhaust until I bought a Mustang with a rear seat delete.... then it wasn't so cool anymore. The exhaust sound swirled around the cabin and I couldn't even hear myself think. Adding a "medium loud" catback fixed this problem.
