ngl, the fact that Caleb made such a tiny sword, yet it set and kept up the pace of the competition is impressive. his was also the most accurate handle construction. and he could do cool tricks with it. overall, Caleb and his Kunai won the comp, in my, *completely unbiased* eyes.
Charlie's one emotion makes it so hard to tell how much pain he's in, the only time I've seen more than slight discomfort on this man's face was during the one chip challenge
I mean, burns to the hands often don't evoke the same reaction in me either. When you eat something hot, the reaction is to get it out of your mouth. When you burn yourself, the reaction is to remove yourself from the heat. You jerk away then calmly shake your head at yourself for being dumb, whereas with spicy food you shout to tell your brain that you're solving the issue whilst obviously not doing so.
I'm very impressed with how clean Charlie managed to get that first split with the watermelon while also not having the best grip on the blade. Truly a master of the craft
The first time I ever welded I was like damn I can't see with this hood on. So I started reaching around with my hand. That's when I found the red hot metal. Burned my whole hand. Part of the learning experience Charlie!
I've done something similar. I was welding a piece of metal. I blew a hole through the edge of it. This created a crescent shape that was red hot and razor sharp. I touched it with a glove on and it burned straight through. Got a good cut on my finger tip for awhile.
Felt some strange warmth on my stomach once, didn't have my welded piece anywhere near me which is what confused the hell out of me at the time. Got home that night and realized A What happened and B How. A) Burned a whole through my shirt and into my stomach(only skin deep but still) B) I took my filling rod and accidentally put it against me after I finished TIG Welding. I welcome Charlie to the Metal Workers Society with open arms after taking the badge we all must get at some point.
"You know what Charlie? You're a blacksmith now. We catch on fire, it's no big deal." I did a singular day's apprenticeship in a blacksmith and came out with 3 burn scars. Can confirm.
Lmaoooo he did not handle that like a champ, he got some slag on his hand and he had to stop go wash it and wrap it, it wouldn’t even break your skin it would irritate your skin at the max level
Im gonna be, "that guy". Charlie should have been wearing a goatskin glove on the hand he was pounding the heated steel with when the accident happened. And its on the Expert Smith who allowed him to do that without the proper safety equipment. I am a welder and what happened to Charlie is very similar to when you are welding and the weld pool or spray lands on you. Its a very intense burning that lasts for a long time and that's through my flame resistant jacket on the bare skin it can be devastating. And the fact that Charlie had to get a shot means it was serious. I've had this happen to me on bare skin only a few times and each time I quickly brushed or doused the piece of Molten slag to mitigate the damage and immediately apply burn gel which any self respecting smith or welder always has on hand when working. By the looks of the video, although it is unclear, It looks like Charlie let the metal set on his skin, likely due to inexperience and shock; until the Smith brushed it off his hand. This is probably what led to the burn being so severe in the longer term. I am also a "Florida Man" lol, so I respect the garage forge and willingness to teach your trade to others. That being said please to anyone out there who is inspired to build your own forge or find someone's to use like Charlie PLEASE take the proper safety precautions, that means: safety glasses, Flame resistant or retardant clothing with legs and Sleeves, Close toed shoes preferable steel or carbon fiber toe boots, and for god sakes GLOVES! I have seen so many people and myself fall victims to Burn and cut related injuries' just because they didn't think about rule numero uno. Charlie and the boys were excited and inexperienced so I blame the Smith that was standing right there and let him hammer away with no glove. My old welding instructor would have cringed so hard at that and proceeded to snatch the hammer from his hand and shout "Do your safety gear check before you step in my shop, or ill shove this hammer up your" and so on and so forth. Anyway, Hope the Injury heals well, awesome video, and stay safe peeps. P.S Also really lucky that Scale Didn't jump up your arm, woulda really fucked up the dope tats. Plz wear sleeves and gloves if you do this again Charlie haha.
I mean yeah, but equally important: you never go hair-out in any situation where any kind of machinery or hazard could mess with your scalp. Especially with spinny things, it's not worth the eventuality.
so true...so many safety stuff overlooked by all of them...aaaaand then you have Charlie saying he won't swing his katana in fear of raw meat fliying near his hand lol
The wasp is the Charlie's only known counter, if not for it, the whole world would be subject to his immense power. We must be grateful, then, that he is locked in eternal combat with the wasp, saving us from his might.
Looked more like just sloppy forging than actual damage from the wood. It's really easy to overhammer a couple of spots and end up with that curve. And it takes a long time on a grinder to remove it. Then again, it could've been an improper heat treat or the sword might've been made from mild steel. Didn't get a good look at it before and after.

I was using a sawzall to cut an exhaust off a car and the blade started bending. I grabbed it without thinking to straighten it out and actually heard my thumb sizzle when it touched. When Charlies sword was revealed, it's like the world was suddenly enlightened. The sun got brighter. The grass got greener. The water got moister. With Charlie, armed with the sword of Floridinite, the world became a safer place under his protection.
I've never thought Charlie would be joining the Forged in Fire crew. Caleb's work is definitely polished and for a nob-blacksmith, it did done great. Matt's got power, but there's some rolling on the blades and his blade is slightly bent to begin with. Charlie's work was pretty good as well, although the blade definite resembles a bolo than a katana 😂 But the question is... "Will it KEAL?"

I mean, burns to the hands often don't evoke the same reaction in me either. When you eat something hot, the reaction is to get it out of your mouth.
A) Burned a whole through my shirt and into my stomach(only skin deep but still)
B) I took my filling rod and accidentally put it against me after I finished TIG Welding.

I love how the place he showed up to looks like any kinda place you might show up to in Florida.

Double edged sword?
Looked more like just sloppy forging than actual damage from the wood. It's really easy to overhammer a couple of spots and end up with that curve. And it takes a long time on a grinder to remove it. Then again, it could've been an improper heat treat or the sword might've been made from mild steel. Didn't get a good look at it before and after.
