Fuck gamberson. Leather armor all the way. Why have to stitch your armor back up like some hag with pestilence when you can just buy a new leather vest when you knick your first?
the helmet one really got me mad. armor was so impenetrable that some men would DIE from exhaustion. The whole point of fighting someone who had armor was to disorient and knock down your opponent, where you then wrestle on the ground to drive a knife or sword tip through the weak points and bends in the armor
Yeah, I'm fairly sure bending in part of that helmet with the blade basically means the person wearing it is having a bad fucking day. "i dOn'T liKE tHiS hANdlE"
@@Mr-Trox if it's properly padded? Not really. The helmet is doing its job and if you went after a guy in plate with this, you're lucky if you got a single hit. This test, at most, checks if the blade will break, using glorified props to achieve it.
at 4:00, he mentions that he would like to see the judges make something. well there is an entire season of forged in fire where the contestants face off against judges, its pretty cool. would definitely recommend
"I guess his blade was designed to go through brick and nothing else" I know that's a roast but it's probably true. "What was your strategy Howard if you don't mind enlightening me?" Not breaking/ He describes his blade as having a lot of mass on the backside. This is a profile designed to absorb shock so it won't snap in half
I thought that guy was actually really smart. He made himself a cleaver which might have had an axe for a mother. Based on the dumbass tests I’ve seen these judges use that was probably a good call. They’re always trying to chop logs or bricks or hammering the blade into a nail. I thought he was so clever then suddenly they have a bunch of reasonable tests 😂 poor dude.

Actually that armor is called gambeson a type of cloth based armor popularly worn in the medieval period as a light armor alternative to the exceedingly rare leather “armor”
A lot of people are correcting Crit1kals false statement about the gambeson, but is no one gonna talk about how he thinks knives without razor sharp edges are useless? Like come on, some knives are made for chopping (like the cleaver or the kukri), and can be deadly without being sharp, able to easily split metal plate and bone through sheer force, yet cannot cut reinforced cloth. The reason you don't put a sharp edge on a chopping knife, is because that edge will chip way easier than a knife that is dull. Then, some knives are made without any edge at all, made only to stab with. These things fucking kill. If you're not wearing armour or a helmet, a sharp knife is gonna be pretty intimidating as they can go through gambeson and clothes easily, however, they cannot easily go through bone, so as long as you keep your stomach protected (so you don't get disembowled), it might be difficult for the knife wielder to get a fatal blow. If you're wearing armor or not, a direct blow to the head from a chopping knife is gonna be pretty deadly. stabbing knives will pretty much always be deadly, depending on how many times someone is stabbed. Different knives have different uses.
As long as you wear proper padding underneath a full helmet,a knife will not kill you, even a heavy knife made to crush,it will probably give you a concussion, but not directly split your helmet.Medieval helmets were made to withstand blows. They were not made out of mild steel, and if you were from the nobility, your armor would probably be properly tempered.A warhammer or mace will probably be able to kill, but a knife against armor? Most probably no.
I was shaking my head at him saying anything could cut cloth too. being very judgemental for someone who's obviously never worked with blades or cloth! and he questions whether the judges know what they're talking about, lol!
Announcer: You're gonna need a sharp edge to cut through that Charlie: I could get through that with a pair of scissors. Yes, Charlie... the scissors with the sharp edges!
The fabric armor that the blades were cutting is called gambeson and it was the most common type of armor in the medieval times. It's made from multiple layers of thick fabric and offered good protection for the wearer even if they couldn't afford chain or plate. The reason why they got slashed so easily is probably because the blades are either impressively sharp or the coat wasn't thick enough or didn't have enough layers.

They had to start saying "it will keal" as an acronym for "keep everyone alive" because I guess they were catching heat for using the word "kill" too much.
Not alone it can't. Gambeson was worn with chainmail and even then people were still shot dead. Crossbows and other bows are more likely to be stopped but 180+ pound longbows will go right through on most occasions.
Kinda doubt that, the longbow was a medieval era equivalent of a 50 cal AMR. That, of course, doesn't mean that gambesson was useless, just that the longbow was an insane weapon.

If you’re not going to pronounce it or spell it correct then don’t do it at all.
Andres crespo
you make me sick, you failed to even ask the most basic question
WHAT.ABOUT.DRAGOONNSSZZZ
Actually that armor is called gambeson a type of cloth based armor popularly worn in the medieval period as a light armor alternative to the exceedingly rare leather “armor”
3:42- “It certainly couldn’t be worse than the last o-“, *applauds*
God damn. More should know about this
As long as you wear proper padding underneath a full helmet,a knife will not kill you, even a heavy knife made to crush,it will probably give you a concussion, but not directly split your helmet.Medieval helmets were made to withstand blows.
Ok boomer

3:55 one of the judges actually used to be a competitor but became a judge after winning like 3 times

the most common type of medieval armour is a type of cloth armour known as a gambeson
Announcer: You're gonna need a sharp edge to cut through that
Charlie: I could get through that with a pair of scissors.
Yes, Charlie... the scissors with the sharp edges!
Forged in fire is actually a pretty good show
Actually the grain structure of that one showed it was technically over cooked.
"We've killed your family" "Do you even have hair on the palm of your hands?" 😂😂
“Who would wear that armor?” Bruh, the most layered padded armors can stop arrows on impact; it’s hella underated for it’s protection in those days.

@@kyleestavio6942 is that true i had no idea
"Who would wear that type of armor?"
That's called gambeson, and it can stop arrows from longbows
Not alone it can't. Gambeson was worn with chainmail and even then people were still shot dead. Crossbows and other bows are more likely to be stopped but 180+ pound longbows will go right through on most occasions.
Kinda doubt that, the longbow was a medieval era equivalent of a 50 cal AMR. That, of course, doesn't mean that gambesson was useless, just that the longbow was an insane weapon.
That’s styled like a gamberson but it’s probably nowhere near as thick as a historically accurate one
Higher quality gambeson from the time could do that, and even then it wasn’t guaranteed. Gambeson kicks all kinds of ass though
