    This is the second home in which ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU we've replaced our "regular" doorbell with a Ring video doorbell and we really enjoy it. It is very easy to install and it works very well, with a clear picture through the app and good in-home use (we added the chime, which is also easy to install and doesn't require another thought to use).

    The retro fit kit and the corner wedge is now being sold for $9.99 each on Amazon. As far as not working with the mechanical chime...it doesn't really bother me. I have an Alexa dot in each room, so we actually hear that before we actually heard the chime when someone pressed the old 2nd Gen Ring Doorbell.

    I bought the cheap one to start, I had it all installed and everything, but when I went to ring it it would only ring on the doorbell and not inside, I was on youtube for 1 month after that trying to figure it out. I just bought the pro and now it works with the chime already in my house, I pay 180 for the pro but it got me that extra. But the fact of the matter is I wasted more time trying to figure out any problems than to just buy the higher end ones. DONT CHEAP OUT, YOU WASTE MORE TIME THAN YOU SAVE. Also thanks for this informative video.

    The 2.4ghz signal goes further than the 5ghz signal. The difference is in speed. So for a larger house, 2.4ghz is far more suitable. 5ghz on the other hand can transmit faster speeds.

    Not exactly: You don't have to buy a Ring chime if you already have Echo devices, as they can double as door chimes. They also let you talk to the person at the door. Additionally, if you have an Echo with a screen, it lets you see the person at the door.

    You can also use a tablet or an older phone you are not using anymore as a chime. As long as you can install the app on it. Which, funnily enough doesn't include an Amazon Fire tablet, unless you have tweaked it a bit. :-)

    Hi Mike, can I ask you something about this doorbell cam.... how long will it record an event for? I mean, if you set it in the app to record for 90 seconds, does it really, or will it stop recording 5 seconds after it no longer senses the motion? Could you trigger yours to start recording, then leave the field of view and test if it continues to record or if cuts recording?

    How do ring chime work

  • @ONI1013.
    @ONI1013. Рік тому

    Has this changed? I thought the US models comes with jumper cables to allow it to work with existing doorbell chimes?

    • @avflyguy
      @avflyguy 4 місяці тому

      The jumper wire essentially disables your original doorbell. The jumper in essence uses that extra voltage/power to make certain the Ring doorbell has enough power/voltage to keep from dropping out the Ring. Wired existing doorbells have a transformer that knocks your 120 volts down to 12, 16, 18, or 24 volts. (good luck finding that transformer) To cover all the bases the Ring bell can operate from 12v to 24 volts. The jumper wire precludes power that may be needed to make old doorbell go ding dong.

    I have an old mechanical doorbell. Will I need to upgrade my transformer?

    • @MikeYawneyGadgetGuy
      @MikeYawneyGadgetGuy  3 роки тому

      It will not work with your existing doorbell chime (mechanical or digital). You will need either a chime kit or Alexa smart speaker like an echo dot 4 to physically hear the chime. Otherwise the notification will only be on your smartphone

  • @mattfarino9564

    • @MikeYawneyGadgetGuy
      @MikeYawneyGadgetGuy  3 роки тому +2

      It doesn’t work properly if you don’t use the jumper. Weird, I know. I’m not an electrician but I believe it has to do with how much power is sent to your doorbell.

      I was wondering this too. My guess is that it converts the button wire into the power cable. I plan on getting rid of my chime completely and just using the old transformer to power the ring directly, but I guess some people might want to eventually revert back to the normal bell or find rewiring too challenging.

  • @ClasssicAri
    @ClasssicAri 3 роки тому +4

    The camera quality is not the same. Although the resolution might be similar, the frame rate is significantly different. The ring wired is only 15fps while the rest are 20 or 24 fps.

  • @coolspot18
    @coolspot18 2 роки тому

    I don't get why Ring doesn't release an even narrower model - many homes have very small frames where the doorbell is mounted. Also, 2.4ghz typically has better range than 5ghz wifi, so using the slower 2.4ghz wifi isn't necessarily a bad thing.

    Everyone has different needs, or wants. I found the basic ring doorbell to be sufficient without purchasing any of the accessories and I purchased it from Woot for less than $30.00. A routine can be written to sound a doorbell chime and have Alexa say most any thing you want. Two way talk is there. Motion sensing with notifications. Pretty much all of the basic stuff. For me, spending more money would have been a waste.

    - the Alexa greetings is useless, most people won’t use it.
    - the lack of chime especially when most homes have an older ding-dong sound can be replaced with a echo dot or show
    - custom faceplates to match your wall? 🤦🏻‍♂️
    - trickier installation? 🤦🏻‍♂️
