My husband has very advanced Parkinson's. He loves to listen to you, Josh. With this piece he cried. Thank you for helping him feel--through your beautiful music--what he can't verbalize.
Yes, Bach was the greatest composer of all time, but he didn’t write this tune. It was written by Hans Leo Haßler as a secular song and later converted into a church song by Paul Gerhardt, a protestant.
When Leah goes to the low harmony in the last verse it was divine. I smiled and related when you see her realize she is not "done," and still had to sing the outtro. 2:43
I know this is coming from a guy with a Nickelback profile pic, but don’t underestimate the effect your music has on people. This was just absolutely beautiful.
I'm sitting in my car at the edge of a vast sand dune field in the desert watching this, bawling my eyes out.... wondering what's gone wrong. GREAT cover, timely af... and 10x as beautiful ❤
Another gem, Josh. Just gorgeous. The chorale on guitar was mesmerizing, and hearing Leah's voice on top of it was sublime. Don't know how this could be improved upon. How the heck can you play such tricky parts yet sing so strongly at the same time. Thanks for this.....
Whenever I had a Josh-Turner-frenzy and binged a ton of his videos, THIS HERE is always the one I come to at the end. It is very cleansing (apart from beatiful). The Bach-guitar, the special song and the very pure voices of Josh and Leah are just a combination is seem not to get tired of. Thank you!
So here you are..playing the most exquisite guitar...and singing as close to Paul Simon’s mellifluous tones but adding your own cadence, with a sweet lady singing in clear voice and it’s beyond beautiful...Thank you ♥️🇨🇦
The more I hear, the more I wonder. Josh is possessed of the kind of supreme talent given to very few. Facility meets infinite delight. It is extraordinary.
Absolutely, totally agree. He plays 25 instruments. He picked up a guitar at the age of 13 by the time he was 15-16 he was wowing the internet. He is a prodigy for sure. I can’t wait until he starts touring again. I am sure he can’t either. 😎
Josh and friends are doing the American Songbook a great service, by bringing it up to date with remarkable musicianship and taste. Paul Simon's masterpiece belongs up there with the very best. I got shivers listening to Josh and Leah perform it.
Josh you sound less like Paul Simon and more like James Taylor, and I mean that in the best possible way. The both of you sound so good together. I've watched many of your vids: they're absolutely top-notch. So good. Don't ever stop.
Josh Turner + Paul Simon = Perfect match. That last "Uuuu-part" gave me the goosebumps too. We have a hymn in Denmark on that tune: "Befal du dine veje"
Not sure if you read your comments but I'll write one just in case. I found your channel today and you and all your featured guests are simply brilliant. I have no other words, but may God keep blessing you.
The volume of your exquisite work, both solo and collaborative, defies logic. It is genius ....not to mention your appealing demeanor and apparent humility. Can't get enough.
Kudos! Miss, not only are you beautiful, truly, your voice matches your countenance, simply angelic. Thank you both for sharing your talent and neither of you require auto-tune! Brilliant!
I'm thrilled when I find a new post from you, Josh. Every single time I listen to something new you have created, I realize that at the end, I literally am not breathing. I remind myself to breathe & it is good ! Not many artists literally take your breath away. Thanks for sharing your passion & please keep 'em coming.
Just revisited this track, as I do with so many of Josh's offerings, and had a good relisten to that incredible fusion of Bach and Paul Simon, with Leah's amazing voice - this is the work of a musical genius, who deserves to be much more appreciated than just on here.
This haunts me.. I come back over and over. I am at once soothed and unsettled. Then this takes days to leave my head every quiet moment. What a song Paul wrote, but man you master it.
Wow, this was a "stop and watch". It takes over a room. Thank you for such beautiful music. I hope and ask you two do some Christmas music together for this season. I think it would be diamonds for the ears.
Every time I watch a video of Josh’s I think, how can he be so talented and how could he ever be any better than this...and he always is. This rendition of a beautiful song, brought it to heights at which only Angels can fly. Leah’s voice is of an Angel, and I felt a deep and sacred beauty in this recording. Wonderful beyond my feeble words.
This is one of a few from his solo career that I can't help thinking would have been a natural for S&G. This duet perfectly captures how it might have worked for them.
They recorded it at the Central Park, in a live Concert, in the early eighties. There is a nice album that contains S&G version of this beautiful Tune.
They actually performed it together several times since they stopped working together. Art Garfunkel has said that he wished it had been written before they split.
Wonderful work Josh and way to go Leah, that was just beautiful. I was moved it was so wonderful, thank you. ...and just think, no trucks or trains or busses.
Lovely rendition. Josh always adds an extra dimension - here, playing the guitar harmonization in baroque style to bring out the origin of the melody: J. S. Bach's chorale "Oh Sacred Head Now Wounded". I've known both the Paul Simon song and the Bach chorale for decades but never made the connection until now. Leah's church-choir vocalization completes the package.
Repetedly came back to your rendition of that wonderful song ... "my soul rose unexepectedly ... smiled reassuringly" ... captured the atmoshpere of the whole song so well in your arrangement. Thank you for sharing your talent with us!
This by far my most favorite Paul Simon song because of its lyrical content. It could have been written for the tragic event of 911, or any tragedy. But it's time is very reminiscent of a Bach signature. I have tried learning to play this song but the chord changes are difficult for my playing..maybe someday I will get it down.If anyone thinks Paul Simon is just your everyday person on guitar, think again. Thanks again Josh Turner, splendid.
It is so rare when we see a talent so vast it touches every genre and every generation so deeply. God has smiled on a young man and with all his hard work and determination added His blessing on his life and talents. Josh, you are special beyond all we know or can say. Thank you for touching all of us so deeply. You are loved and appreciated!
I love the Bach harmonization - such a wonderful blend classic to new. That's why it's timeless. Josh, I love that you keep refining, searching and exploring the possibilities because that is what the "gift" is all about, to keep giving. And having Leah accompany on this is a wise choice with her angelic voice.
I know, I am a few years behind - but I have loved everything you do, and when you bring another great talent along, it's even better ! Thanks to both you kids ! You just killed it ! For those that wonder how they can do this, notice, they both can sight read music and that alone means they are way deeper into music than just watching videos on you tube... :) Go learn how music came to be as far back in centuries as you can and then you will really see how this unlocks so much more for you today and forever, going forward.. There are some great Masters of music in the 17th century that did things that are not even able to be done today.. Thank you, Josh and Leah !! You two = Superb !!!
I watched this movie now at least 25 times. Still I am moved to the bone when I see it. Josh, fantastic. Also you girl, very talented, need to hear much more of you!!
I am not an American but I have become quite emotional listening to the wonderful interpretation of this beautiful song by these two young people . Well done guys ,superb!
I’m 71 and have sadly neglected playing my guitar for some years now. I’m going to open its case; dust it down and get on with it. Josh, you may be young but in addition to your incredible talent, you’re inspirational. Thank you.
Guys! What a great job!! I'm old enough to remember Paul Simon's classic...and ode inspired by Nixons White House...and NOW...the words are more profound than ever. The second half of this song makes me cry....'The Statue of Liberty sailing out to sea...you can't be forever blessed...this is the perfect song for today's time.
How gorgeous! I didn't know I'd heard St. Matthew's Passion before until you go to the very end. It was definitely worth the work you put into getting those masterful harmonies onto the guitar! And pretty cool that Paul Simon had the outline of them to begin with.
Many's the time I've been mistaken And many times confused Yes, and I've often felt forsaken And certainly misused Oh, but I'm alright, I'm alright I'm just weary to my bones Still, you don't expect to be bright and bon vivant So far away from home, so far away from home And I don't know a soul who's not been battered I don't have a friend who feels at ease I don't know a dream that's not been shattered Or driven to its knees But it's alright, it's alright For we lived so well so long Still, when I think of the Road we're traveling on I wonder what's gone wrong I can't help it, I wonder what has gone wrong And I dreamed I was dying I dreamed that my soul rose unexpectedly And looking back down at me Smiled reassuringly And I dreamed I was flying And high up above my eyes could clearly see The Statue of Liberty Sailing away to sea And I dreamed I was flying We come on the ship they call The Mayflower We come on the ship that sailed the moon We come in the age's most uncertain hours And sing an American tune Oh, and it's alright, it's alright, it's alright You can't be forever blessed Still, tomorrow's going to be another working day And I'm trying to get some rest That's all I'm trying to get some rest
Beautifully played, sung and arranged! Heavenly! Made cry like a little child since it's one of my Paul Simon's favorite tune. Thank you for the lovely service to humanity! God bless you guys!
Unbelievable ! Sung and played so beautiful. Josh, you are a musical genius. I often listen video's of you. Your voice is also getting better, deeper and lower.

This one gets me like that too.
❤️
His voice has such a great tone. Soft, smooth and without strain. A mix of Paul Simon and James Taylor. What a talent.
Damn straight.
Unbelievable re-arrangement of this great Paul Simon song, which leans on the tune's medieval antecedents.
I don't know why but Josh Turner + telecaster + a Paul Simon tune = a home run every time. Leah adds something pretty special too!
Josh has a clean honest voice. Telecasters are clean and honest tone. Its a great match.
What a damn genius that Johann Sebastian Bach was, giving so much material for today’s geniuses to thrive upon.
Yes, Bach was the greatest composer of all time, but he didn’t write this tune. It was written by Hans Leo Haßler as a secular song and later converted into a church song by Paul Gerhardt, a protestant.
His music is literally the building blocks of western music as we hear it today.
@Fred Wills It is the leit motiv of Mathauspassion

Flipping hell articulate conversation!
When Leah goes to the low harmony in the last verse it was divine. I smiled and related when you see her realize she is not "done," and still had to sing the outtro. 2:43
I like the last verse where Leah "oooo'ed it.
I know this is coming from a guy with a Nickelback profile pic, but don’t underestimate the effect your music has on people. This was just absolutely beautiful.
The talent it takes to do an arrangement of a PAUL SIMON tune and actually make it better.
Better? Calm down, bro. 😂
This is one of the all-time greatest pieces of American music, and Joshua and Leah do it justice and more.
Calling this music American is a very large stretch lol
It's basically a choral from JS Bach. Look for 'Wie soll ich dich empfangen'.
it's Bach dear ;)
“American Tune” is tongue in cheek. Paul Simon knew where he took it from.
Am 46 years old and watch each one of your videos as a child !!! Just beauty ! Bravo...Best regards from France
Yes. Well said Belo Blues! Well said.
Belo Blues j'en ai 14 de plus et il me fait le même effet 👍😄😄😄
Ricky Poq Je suis d'Amsterdam et j'ai 62 ans, et je suis tout à d'accord.

Gut wrenching emotion is what life is about my friend. If it's not from the heart then it's nothing. May God live in your heart always. 🙏💓🙏
Cool story
Once again, I'm left with goosebumps by Josh and his amazingly talented friends. PLEASE come and tour Australia when the world allows it.
Bach would love this as would Paul Simon. Such exquisitely beautiful singing voices and that guitar accompaniment is absolutely sublime!
Actually Bach wrote the melody. It's from St Matthew's Passion.
@@douglasclerk2764 You're quite right. I sang that wonderful piece when I was up at Cambridge many moons ago!
@@douglasclerk2764 thank you for that. I’ve been racking my brains to try and remember the source
You two have soul clearing voices. What a treat. Thank you!
Another gem, Josh. Just gorgeous. The chorale on guitar was mesmerizing, and hearing Leah's voice on top of it was sublime. Don't know how this could be improved upon. How the heck can you play such tricky parts yet sing so strongly at the same time. Thanks for this.....
This blew me away! The tones Leah produces are hauntingly beautiful and Josh's guitar arrangement is stunning. Brilliant interlude with Bach!
Leah you have a voice like an angel! ;)
She has a sweet gentle voice.
I am a great fan of Paul Simon, but this is the best version. Thank you Bach.
Whenever I had a Josh-Turner-frenzy and binged a ton of his videos, THIS HERE is always the one I come to at the end. It is very cleansing (apart from beatiful). Love Leah Taub's voice
Leah's voice is mesmerising and we had the usual level of outstanding musicianship from Joshua
A beautiful synthesis of Bach, Paul Simon and Josh's talent!
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched this 😭❤️
Josh Turner + Paul Simon = Perfect match. That last "Uuuu-part" gave me the goosebumps too. We have a hymn in Denmark on that tune: "Befal du dine veje"
I have enjoyed this video everyday for at least 7 days since I discovered it. This is a mesmerizing performance. Thank you Leah and Josh.

Brilliant vocals by Leah. Josh never disappoints, superb picking. Top shelf music!
Listened to many of your tunes Josh but I keep coming back to this one. Wonderful !
Kudos! Miss, not only are you beautiful, truly, your voice matches your countenance, simply angelic. Thank you both for sharing your talent and neither of you require auto-tune! Brilliant!
I am 58 Josh and Leah but I am very happy for your rendering of the song of my youth. Just subscribing to your channel from Cebu, Philippines.

Just beautiful. Josh, I think your voice gains more maturity every time I hear a new recording. An excellent selection for the two of you! Bravo!
Was just gonna say the same. I came for the guitar but stayed for the vocals
This haunts me.. I come back over and over. I am at once soothed and unsettled. Then this takes days to leave my head every quiet moment. What a song Paul wrote, but man you master it.

God!!! That was beautiful. Josh and Leah please do more of this. Josh you are perfect.
I love you Josh Turner, you have a great future and inspire me as one of few young talents. Keep it up!
Beautiful... Great job! Love the sweetness , simplicity and talent. Thank you.
Every time I watch one of Josh's videos I'm in awe at how talented he is, and the wonderful people he surrounds himself with make me smile.
I am not religious, but this is utterly holy music. Your musical appreciation, and hence interpretation , is staggeringly beautiful.
Bach's "O Haupt Voll Blut Und Wunden" was where the melody is from.
The lyrics are a very powerful political statement. I'm disappointed they hummed the last verse.
Leah's face at the page turn. 😄. She seems like a fun cookie. Awesome as always Josh. Rock the world and tour out to the Midwest someday.
Josh - I'm continuously amazed and entertained by your guitar prowess and your videos. Thanks!

I watched this movie now at least 25 times. Still I am moved to the bone when I see it. Josh, fantastic. Also you girl, very talented, need to hear much more of you!!
Awesome. Gave me chills. You are a true artist and I appreciate all that you continue to share with us!
Everything wonderful... singing, guitar, arrangement, recording... and the beautiful vocal of Leah at the end. Stunning.

Glad that You mention J.S. Bach for the harmonization. Paul Simon, whom I adore, omits mentioning Bach.
Just wanted to say thank you Josh. Your covers keep me going throughout the weeks. Top cover again x
I didn’t think finger-picking would work well with a Telecaster but I was sure wrong about that. Gorgeous work, both of you.
Stunning. From the giggle to the end. Stunning.

Many's the time I've been mistaken
And many times confused
Yes, and I've often felt forsaken
And certainly misused
Oh, but I'm alright, I'm alright
I'm just weary to my bones
Still, you don't expect to be bright and bon vivant
So far away from home, so far away from home
And I don't know a soul who's not been battered
I don't have a friend who feels at ease
I don't know a dream that's not been shattered
Or driven to its knees
But it's alright, it's alright
For we lived so well so long
Still, when I think of the
Road we're traveling on
I wonder what's gone wrong
I can't help it, I wonder what has gone wrong
And I dreamed I was dying
I dreamed that my soul rose unexpectedly
And looking back down at me
Smiled reassuringly
And I dreamed I was flying
And high up above my eyes could clearly see
The Statue of Liberty
Sailing away to sea
And I dreamed I was flying
We come on the ship they call The Mayflower
We come on the ship that sailed the moon
We come in the age's most uncertain hours
And sing an American tune
Oh, and it's alright, it's alright, it's alright
You can't be forever blessed
Still, tomorrow's going to be another working day
And I'm trying to get some rest
That's all I'm trying to get some rest
An Island in American turmoil. Thank you to both of you.
A lovely version. Love Leah's voice as well.
Thanks, you two, for this beautiful version! It really touched me.
Excellent! You make music I want to hear over and over. Thanks!!
I keep finding myself listening to this over the past few days, an earworm for sure, and just sublime pleasure.
Beautifully played, sung and arranged! Heavenly! Made cry like a little child since it's one of my Paul Simon's favorite tune. Thank you for the lovely service to humanity! God bless you guys!
This is a Bach chorale beautifully re-imagined as a modern song capturing the mood of the original
Yes!! Reminds me of O Sacred Head Now Wounded. Just beautiful.
Haupt voll Blut
Unbelievable ! Sung and played so beautiful. Josh, you are a musical genius. I often listen video's of you. Your voice is also getting better, deeper and lower.
A lovely cover of a great great Paul Simon song
Josh´s voice is very good for covering Paul Simon, wonderful sounds of you both!
Absolutely fabulous...... You put all the celebrity, big names in the shade.....
Wonderful vocals. Plus I love the tone of the guitar. Woks perfectly with your vocals.
Fantastic job. This is my favorite Paul Simon song ever. Thank you.
Beyond music... a public service keeping these tunes alive!
Thank you for sharing your amazing talent. Very nice........
I didn't know that an electric guitar, like the telecaster, could be played in this manner. It is unique I believe. Usually, this type of music is played on an acoustic. Tremendous, just tremendous.
Phenomenal. A rare interpretation that honors the original and even adds to its original intention in a compelling way. Wow.
Josh, your voice and pitch on this song are absolute perfection. Do more Paul Simon please. Much more.
Lovely job, especially the allusion to the greatest piece of music ever written.
If I close my eyes and listen, I could almost believe it was Paul singing with a bit of a cold making his voice deeper.
Superb.....a joy to listen to. A melody by Bach....adapted by Paul Simon.....and now adapted further by you two.....it’s how great music evolves.
Finally a good female singer who doesn't sing with the "indie girl" voice! Excellent job!
what's an "indie girl" voice? pls show example
I guess he means the kind of affected, overly emotional voice that sounds like the singer is constantly sighing. It gets used in most of contemporary pop music and is thought of by many to be a sign of a good voice, which is the reason why lots of amateur singers imitate it.
Lol!
Austin Davidson This is highly relevant
An indie voice is am annoying coffee shop bratty crybaby girl or boy that cant STFU.
Quelle maitrise extraordinaire. J'apprécie tout ce que tu fais et là, c'est encore plus fort. Vraiment, tu honores le monde de la guitare. Bravo !
Leah Taub and Art Garfunkel both possess the voice of an angel! Beautifully done.
Can’t stop listening to this. I was blown away by Crazy but this is on a whole new level. Thank You
