I'm 61 yrs old my brothers and sisters so you know that I have heard this song many times over the hard course and winding pathways of my long and often sad life. FYI I got my first solo when I was chosen to sing part of Kumbayah as part of P.S. 24's Spring Festival in 1967 in the Bronx. Music has been part of my life ever since then . Also I have been a hobbyist guitarist on and off since 1970. Consequently, I know talent and dedication when I see it.You have both of these qualities in large supply. Additionally, this video- your performance- made this song new for me ( especially the arrangement). you gave me chills and goosebumps. Bravo! God bless all of you 😊🎼🎵🎶🎵🎶🎹😊❤
This is an old melody, first as "Mein G’müt ist mir verwirret" composed by Hans Leo Haßler and published in 1601. Paul Gerhardt wrote "O Haupt voll Blut und Wunden" ("O Sacred Head, Now Wounded") and Johann Crüger set this melody little simplified to that song. Johann S. Bach used this melody in his Oratorios for the Paul Gerhardt songs above, "Befiehl du deine Wege" and "Wie soll ich dich empfangen".
I referred to Paul Simon's "American Tune" in a FaceBook post about the Covid-19 pandemic. Simon's was played during an afternoon vigil during Witness At the Border in Brownsville TX across from the Gateway International Bridge calling-out the Administration's cruelty in regard to the refugees kept from crossing for asylum. The song is very poignant and speaks to these times of not only the border witness, but the Covid-19 pandemic. This is a beautiful rendition and by a high school choir. There are other versions, by Paul Simon as well as choral, quite able to get to the heart of the matter.
Nicely done. Tough tune to do unless you're Paul Simon. First time I heard Rhymin' Simon do it, it really got to me. The Statue of Liberty, sad eyed lady. Home.
"High up above my eyes could clearly see the statue of Liberty sailing away to sea" WAKE UP AMERICA. VOTE BLUE IN 2024!!! We have nothing to lose but Democracy, freedom and our country as we know it

Great job, sung with feeling, expression. I was moved to tears when the choir started. Paul Simon must surely love this. Carry on , guys!

They’re a British choir! But they nailed this absolutely American tune. Brilliant arrangement, beautiful vocals.
This “absolutely American” tune is actually by JS Bach 😂
