@@carlfilpo7571 it happens over 1 weekend in a village in Warwickshire called Tanworth in Arden. Quite a few people attend.. On the Saturday muscicans get up and perform. Doesn't necessarily have to be Nick Drake songs..

I agree. For me, Josh Turner's voice has this really pure quality that's more reminiscent of Paul Simon. He does a great job with this song, but where he really shines though is with the hyper attention to Nick Drake's guitar playing style and technique. In that? This is like a 600 foot homerun. Very beautiful.

This takes me back to sailing to Catalina Island, and around the Los Angeles harbor. I had a kicking stereo and only a couple of CD's. Nick Drake way to blue and the Byrds Greatest hits. Magical how a smell or a sound can bring back all the sensations. Thank you.

Nick Drake has such a distinctive tone, you can recognize his songs sung by anyone.

In all seriousness, I think that praise should be given in an earnest form. I think that this rendition is heart-wrenching. Josh captured the anguish of life that Nick wanted to portray. That being said, I still prefer the frailty of Nick's original recording (not to mention his voice), but this cover really is stunning nonetheless.
That's what I always think when I come back to a really great tune, go to "like" it, and find that I already did. And I also already commented. So I do the next best thing (as far as the algorithm is concerned) and like comments, or reply to them.

Ya. You nailed it. Genius level player. He nailed Leo Kotke shortly after he started to play guitar. I really couldn't believe anyone could have that kind of instant dexterity. In this clip Josh doesn't even look at guitar. Totally by feel as if he was Doc Watson. He's fingerpicking classical style too.

After your video about Nick Drakes tone and guitar I wondered down the rabbit hole of his albums. I had heard some of his songs before and wondered why and how they were so hauntingly beautiful but never explored the back story. Feeling inspired I read everything I could find and listened to all 3 albums on repeat for 2 weeks. I am so sad to find that there are no video records of his performances or studio time, but this video comes close at least from a musicality perspective. I think he had a deeply troubled head and heavy heart, from the tone of his songs/guitar to his own voice spoken on intermittent tracks. Anyway, thank you for introducing me to this. I have been playing with capoed DADGAD tuning lately and it is so easy to get obsessed with how beautiful and easy great chords can be produced.

Google "roio nick drake" and check out the first result, the Bigozine one. I especially recommend his Hazey Jane 1 solo take, his Guitar Instrumental No. 1, the Sketch V - Guitar, and that Place To Be take. Oh gods. Oh lords.

First heard this on my brother's vinyl record in1976 I reckon. I loved the whole album but this song always mesmerised me the most, and remains my favourite song. I thought it would be impossible to cover well but you have done it magnificently.
I love the way you nailed the picking in the slow tempo part. To m that bit evokes rain being blown upwards and I thought it would be impossible to replicate until now. Great vocal too!

@@belascialoja4812 d'addario nickel bronze strings. He uses them for this tone. You get them and don't change for months. He explains it in his "Nick Drake's tone" video. Probably martin monels would work too.
