  • This is my EDC $8 Walmart Street Chrome Zippo that I've been using a rubber gasket in the insert instead of the felt pad. I've been very happy with the results and would recommend these gaskets to others. Make sure to remove the felt pad and pack the insert correctly before using the gasket.

    Try a Zorro the lid to body alignment is almost perfect. The hinge is machined into the two pieces and there’s a rubber gasket at the top to prevent leakage.

      Thank you for commenting. Yup, I have two of the Zorro lighters I believe you are talking about. The ones machined out of one piece of metal, right? If so, I have one of each of the 5 barrel and 3 barrel types. They are great lighters. I really should get one to use as my everyday lighter. I have some videos on this channel where I show some of the Zorro lighters in my collection.

    You were not supposed to take out the factory felt pad when you added the rubber gasket that pad holds excess fluid and forms the seal that cuts down on evaporation, you just needed to use a flat head screwdriver🪛 to push the felt pad deeper into the lighter & then add the rubber gasket on top of the pad to fully seal it once you do that you will see a drastic change in the amount of time before you have to add more lighter fluid..

      Thank you for commenting. Part of why I made a video on these was to discover other people's experiences with these gaskets. My experience with these led me to conclude that taking the felt pad out led to longer fuel preservation due to the rayon being able to absorb more fluid per fill. Either way though, my experience led me to conclude that this gasket was more of a hindrance than anything and really didn't add much time between refills. Stopped using them completely.

      Isn't it redundant since you already have the rubber to prevent evaporation? Also pushing the felt pad further inside will make it harder to replace the wick and the cotton later.

    I recently bought an "Armour" zippo because I like the additional heft. The case walls are about 50% thicker than normal.
    Then, I learned about Zorro lighters! One model is now available on Amazon, and I have one on order. These monsters are super thick, superior hinge, and O-ring type gasket around the top of the case. Comes with its own insert and accepts standard zippo inserts. Too heavy for everyday carry, maybe, but a great tabletop lighter. I plan to test how long fluid lasts with both the included O-ring AND a bottom gasket! Some Zorro inserts have a metal version of the rubber gasket. I'll see what they ship to me!

      I know exactly which ones you are referring to. There are two different sizes. A three barrel hinge one and a five barrel hinge. I own one of each. They definitely are beautiful, and heavy lol, lighters. Definitely worth getting in my opinion. Yes, Zorro lighters are pretty sweet. I own a few of their Ultimate Justice line. I order mine usually through the Aliexpress app. Zorro also makes lighters in designs that Zippo nolonger makes, like the Game of Thrones ones. A lot cheaper in cost as well. Thank you for commenting. Hope you have a great New Year as well.

    Update on mine , no problems , not shrunk and all good, no red or brown ones for sale , left one lighter unused after near 2 months fires first time, other lasts about two weeks none stop, best one i've tried is the Zorrow insert , sealed on the bottom and top , .

      I'm a fan of the Chinese Zorro lighters completely. They have been getting better and better. Zorro ultimate justice lighters and their heavy brass ones with the built in hinges and o-rings are nice as well. I actually own a few Zorro lighters myself. Have made vids about them.

      I also have the Comic Design Zippo. I put a Zippo refillable butane torch insert in it for lighting certain rolled cone shaped cigarettes. I prefer using the torch for that instead of the soft flame. With those two lighters I have all options covered for years. Keep up the good reviews.

    It seems that the purpose of the rubber insert is to prevent evaporation of fuel, thusly saving money on lighter fluid. I went another way and bought a gallon of brand X naptha gas for about 10 bucks and fuel my zippo with that. It seems to work about as good as lighter fluid, I can't tell the difference.

    • @zippolyonsden1623
      @zippolyonsden1623  5 місяців тому

      Yeah, these little gaskets are supposed to be for fuel leak prevention. They don't add much to make them worth using, in my opinion now. Definitely, VM&P Naphtha is a very good alternative for Zippos. Especially since that's what lighter fluid is. Even Zippo brand fluid. Thank you for commenting.

    Can’t beat it for 8.00…I’ve been lucky to find several vintage zippo and Asian lighters in my local antique shops for 10- 15 dollars..I just can’t see paying 25.00 and up for a modern zippo ….

      I fully agree about the prices of modern Zippos. Part of the reason I have been collecting mostly vintage ones. Usually cheaper than the new ones and are better constructed as well. Antique shops are some of my favorite places to find Zippos.

    Hello mate, I'm really interested in this rubber. It looks great. But what about the flame? I heard that the flame became smaller when using this rubber gasket compared to the original felt. Probably due to air flow or something that I'm not so sure about.

    • @zippolyonsden1623
      @zippolyonsden1623  4 місяці тому +1

      When I was using these rubber gaskets, I did not experience any problems with the flame becoming smaller. Just remember that these gaskets are supposed to be used instead of the felt pad, not along with it.

There are 100s of different styles and designs of Zippos to choose from. I would suggest finding one you think is cool and or have been wanting for a while.

    • @zippolyonsden1623

      @Fnino42069 yes, it's because of the model. Just a plain street chrome. Zippo sells them for $20 and they can be purchased for only $15 on Ebay from reliable sellers. Walmart buys in huge quantities and warehouses goods. That's why they can sell them cheap. Like how a ebay seller would most likely buy in bulk, thus getting a better price from Zippo than what you or I would by just buying one.
