The capillary effect is exactly what makes a Zippo work. You’re correct. It’s what makes oil lamps work also.

Get yourself a small ultrasonic cleaner and a little steel mesh tea ball. All the teeny-tiny parts go into the ball. If you've never used one of these cleaners before, prepare for a mind blow because you will kick yourself for working so hard all these years. One very cool technique is to fill the cleaner's tank with plain water, and if you're using solvent such as iso or DNA, pour a little into a small 'snack' sized Ziploc bag, put your parts in it and zip it up, and drop it into the water. It saves buckets of solvent and works just as well as if the entire tank were filled with solvent. These cleaners are available in many sizes and they all work well. The larger ones have a heat option.

I put a rubber gasket on top of the felt pad .Works just the same.

I've conducted extensive experiments on various combinations of insert materials and methods to preserve fuel on several occasions and posted the results on Reddit. The overall result was that it made hardly any difference at all whether you used a rubber gasket or some kind of "bag" trick. Zippo lighters are by their very nature unsealed containers, and the fluid vapors always managed to escape via the path of least resistance. I was hoping to see *something* come of my testing, but it mostly ended up as a great way to waste fuel.
I even conducted tests with alternative filling materials, popular things like Cotton Bacon Prime. All of those things too made very little difference in terms of fuel holding or resistance to evaporation.
All of it basically pointing to the inherent design of the lighter being the most important factor to fuel evaporation related issues, and that pretty much any cotton will work about as well as anything else. Why spend the money on Cotton Bacon Prime when cotton balls from the pharmacy will work just as well.

I like how you said that, this entire channel is a great way to waste fuel!😜✌️

I tried several tricks at once and still can't get one to hold fuel for a week here in the South for outdoor use

I've been wondering about these. Our friend CutleryLover here on YT did a fairly extensive experiment on one or two types of them. Depending on materials some of them shrank...shrinked😂when soaked in ZLF, and the flame performance was affected. Capillary action is solid science. There are lubricants etc that will "climb" up a given metallic surface if you set one end of the object in a container of said lubricant, they will over time "creep" into every available small crack, under nickel and chrome plating and eat the copper, aaaand off comes that pretty shine😂

Yes it did shrink in my zippo too after just the first fill .

Great video. Sweet that you're using it in your T-Man Zippo. I've been using one of these gaskets In a few Zippos now for months, my edc for almost a year. Haven't had any issues.

    Mine keeps leaking

If it leaks then the lighter has too much fuel.✌️
