Girl With Real Tourette's Reacts To TikToker Faking Tourette's || TicsandRoses Edition PART 4

  • In today's video I address more about how to tell if someone is faking tourettes. A lot of people on TikTok have faked tourettes and it's been really harmful to the community, so I address people like ticsandroses and let viewers know some key signs in how to tell if someone is faking. This video is strictly about reacting to ticsandroses and their faking of tourettes on tiktok. Almost a year later after I made my first ticsandroses video, I decided to make a follow up and showcase WHY the tics they pretended to have are fake. The WHY is so important.

As a girl with Tourette's, I would love to spread awareness and education about my disorder, as I feel it is quite misunderstood in today's society. The media has made it out to be a swearing disorder only, which is far from true. I hope this video will educate you on Tourette Syndrome and tic disorders! Life with Tourettes can be difficult, but just know that we're the same as everyone else...except for the fact we tic like clocks! (:
    Thanks for watching!

In 2007, South Park made an entire episode centered around Cartman faking Tourette’s and how harmful it is to fake a disorder like this. Kyle was even shamed by others for calling out Cartman’s bs. It’s just surprising to me how this topic was already called out and satirized 16 years ago and people like Tics and Roses are out here still doing this for attention.

I'm not implying it doesn't hurt ANYMORE I'm asking GENUINELY has it become less painful

Thank you for speaking out about people faking neurological diseases or any other disease. I have had one since I was 14, which is not Tourette but epilespy; I'm 19 now and a lot of students in middle school back then made gossips about me faking it just to skip school or to get attention. I hated myself because of them. I don't see a lot of people faking epilespy since it's impossible, but there are lots faking diseases to get likes as we can see in those tiktoks, and it's disgusting.

I understand what you mean about people thinking you're faking to get out of school. So recently last summer I got sick and POTS is pretty common to develop with my suspected disease. Now I'm not diagnosed with anything yet. But my doctors are all pretty certain I have POTS. So I had gym 4th period and after being upright for so long I would just get very dizzy, vertigo, feeling faintish, ect. (I had just gotten sick wasn't able to eat and was surviving purely off of pedyliate) My friend at the time gave me so much crap because how convenient of me to get dizzy around gym time. Maybe two weeks later I got kicked out of gym and moved to another class per doctors orders. Now I'm homebound per doctors orders. So obviously we have different backgrounds and different stories but I get it with feeling like crap because you feel like literal crap and you can't do the things everyone else does. Or my friends give me crap about missing school or sleeping in too late. I sleep when I can. Nights because either my body is trying to kill me or I'm too scared to sleep or I'm in too much pain. Sorry for the rant but I get it.

I actually believed T&R at first. I have Tourettes (now mostly motor tics now that I'm in my 20s), but have had "urges" (I'm glad you addressed Impulses!!) outside of tics as a big part of my experience. The urge to stick your hand into a bowl of soup, or a light socket, or do messy, dangerous things: these get in the way of my tasks or even safety at times. Unfortunately, T&R's seemingly never-ending showy behavior treads the water of sensationalizing. If they have real tics, I hope they can find peace.

Wow. As someone who works in Neurosurgery with a background in Psychology, I would like to say: thank you. Thank you for calling out this ridiculous behavior. Choosing your tics, or what they will entail subject wise, is like saying that someone who is suffering from a stroke can choose which side of their body is affected. It does NOT happen. To try and profit from any type of debilitating condition that one does NOT HAVE, should actually be an imprisonable offense. It is fraud, period. 😳

Rest assured, you’re lovely inside and out. I’m so sorry that there are people in the world who would mock, belittle, and attempt to devalue your very personal and bravely exposed experience.

I've always felt uncomfortable with T&R's videos. the trippy hippie has similar type videos but you can tell theirs are genuine because they know that they're having their tics INTERFERE and do have fun with some of it, but have someone with them to help keep them from accidentally hurting themselves while they show how it affects things that a lot of us without Tourette's take for granted, like baking.

The teeth-bushing one 2/3 of the way through really shows the insincerity of the supposed afflictions, because she has 4 completely different ticks in under 17 seconds, and all 4 consist of what you would come up with if you were in an Improv class, and you were told to "Brush your Teeth wrong"... She brushes her cheek, her forehead and then (very, very gently) sticks it in her eye. It's like the clumsy people in commercials for wholly unnecessary products.

Something I find is that you can usually tell when someone is ticcing by the way it sounds. I don't have TS but i know lots of people that do and usually it's fairly easy to tell if what somebody is saying is a tic or not, because the tones vastly differentiate - like with your 'I got rice' tic, just as an example. I can tell when it's a tic and when you're just saying it because the tones are so different. It kind of fits into what you were saying about how when you tic, you're not putting conscious effort into it, so you can't imitate a tic when you aren't ticcing.
This was an awesome video, thank you so much. Have a wonderful day/night. You're such an inspiration, truly one of the most amazing people I've seen on UA-cam. Your videos are true, raw, and unfiltered, and that's what makes them so impactful. Thank you.

You explained that very well and the side by side of your genuine tics compared to T&R performed tics highlighted what involuntary really looks like compared to someone who is performing.
A genuine tic basically looks like: if you were to film this video displaying no tics at all, upload it to a computer program and then add in pre programmed vocal and movement tics that randomly interrupt the video for a split second, as if you pushed a button that inserted the tic into the video.
It does look totally effortless, involuntary and spontaneous (I’m sure it’s exhausting though), you don’t skip a beat before transitioning into the tic or after.
But someone who is faking can’t keep the genuine quality of a pre-programmed tic that interrupts as if a tic button in your brain is pushed because they’re thinking about acting natural while preparing to perform.
Also you really did a brilliant job highlighting the little detailed differences for someone faking too. Like taking a breath in before a “tic” presents itself, taking breaths in between and reacting to it afterwards with no obvious transition from the tic back to normal voice because they couldn’t keep the tone and cadence the same when repeating it.
She also looked away from the camera right before a “tic” presented itself, which is also an indication of deception. Whereas you had eye contact with the camera as the tics came and went, only looking away if it was part of the tic.
Thank you for making this video!

I think you explain the fluidity and tone of speech, tics and "tics" very well! :) While they "tic" it's very smooth transition - Not only vocal-wise but also the movements. When you have tics while speaking, the transition is sharp, jerking and you seem to have a short pause to take a breath after a tic before continuing, whereas TicksandRoses has made the "noser/sir..." tic they didn't seem to have a need to take a breather after the last one (of course that could be due editing, but there clearly was no edit between the last "tic" and mentioning "just like that")

I think this era of short content is very harmful overall. There's plenty of good, don't get me wrong, but if someone came across one of her videos on tiktok they would only see this small amount of information and have nothing real to compare it too. Which I suspect is what happened with her getting so many followers. As you said, with longer content people can pick up on the repetitive tone and cadence of each one of their tics, they can pick up on the fact that motor and vocal tics are not conveniently separate as her fake ones were shown to be, among other things that aren't so obvious when in short clip compilations. The baking video is horrendously faked but I may only see that so glaringly after watching Evie Meg and Jade O'Connell's baking videos. They both make messes and break things, and both have been so honest and open to show how upsetting and frustrating it is. This is why I think platforms like tiktok are so much more damaging than they are good. You may only see one person and a few seconds at that. Everyone with Tourette's is so different as I've come to learn but I also have learned just how much they are not different at all. People are seeing but not seeing enough to learn anything.

but I also have learned just how much they are not different at all. People are seeing but not seeing enough to learn anything.

I dunno why but sometimes I just randomly imitate things, like if I’m watching a show and a character says a line, every now and then I end up repeating the line a few times, or if I’m looking at my pet snake and she tongue flicks, I end up tongue flicking back, it’s weird and I don’t know why it happens, and I can try to suppress it but then I couldn’t focus on what I’m doing.

I have OCD and I’m really freaking tired of people saying they have OCD when they like things excessively clean. It’s kind of in line with faking having it. It turns the whole disorder into a joke. So, in short, I understand how this affects you even though I don’t have Tourette’s. I do have some form of tics (common with OCD) but it’s extremely mild.

That's honestly why my OCD went undiagnosed for so long. I thought it was obsessive cleaning and i dont like to clean lol. I would have obsessive thoughts about needing to check my door nob so many times. If i felt the right side of my body had not done as much as my left i would feel uneven. I would obsess over intrusive thoughts and what they mean. And i always thought that was normal.

    • @devsie11915

@@lexyruse603 yea mine went undiagnosed for a long time also. I don’t like to clean, I don’t even have the lock checking or repeated touching of particular items. A lot of my compulsions are mental. I also do the “evening out” when my body feels uneven. It’s so obnoxious. I used to think I was just “quirky” because, if I stepped on a rock with my right foot while walking, I had to go back to step on the exact same rock with my left foot in the exact right way and keep doing it until it felt right. Obviously that’s not the only example, but anyway, it’s annoying that people don’t know what OCD actually is because of these stereotypes.

I used to fake tourette's/tics during 2020. But, I genuinely thought I had tics. In actuality, I just saw the community in TikTok compilations and was desperate for a situation where I could deviate from the norm in a similar way and be accepted. I wanted to be different to the public, but normal to a friend group (if that makes sense). I was going through a lot at that time and I'm not at all proud of it. In actuality, I was just being impulsive and creating things that were more akin to stims. I even went far enough that I told my parents and got checked by a neurologist. I don't have tourette's or tics, but I do have ADHD and autism, so I do stim (which is kinda similar in a way). I am glad people are being called out for faking though. Especially since during that time, I saw a few Tics and Roses videos and thought they were real tics. Thank you for educating people and spreading awareness to things like this so that situations like mine are less likely to happen with someone else. And thank you for reading my ramblings :)

While my simple motor and vocal tics tend to happen repetitively with varying durations (sometimes just over and over again for one day, sometimes for weeks or months), my complex tics tend to repeat a lot less. Maybe it's also because I can suppress them better so they just don't come out as often but for my complex vocal tics, some tend to stick while I constantly get new ones that change quickly or never repeat

My vocal tic is similar in that it is the same sound. I may attempt to do it more quietly, but I have to focus most of my attention on that. I remember trying to quiet the vocal tic while taking tests in school, but then I couldn't actually focus on my tests.

I wish I could give you 100000 likes; I would really like to find a way to get people together IRL that have TS to discuss it and give pointers and ideas for the management of it, I know 'they' ("scientists" say a group of people with TS will set off a tic fest through the whole group, but those people don't actually understand how it works. I have a BSc degree. It's environmental science, but I did have phycology and physics and chemistry, and I was an EMT for 23 years, so I do have some understanding, plus the fact that I actually have TS, so I have a little bit of an idea about how it actually does work. For some reason in my state SC, the cops here sheriff, prosecutors for the court, and DSS all believe that you shouldn't be able to adopt a child if you have TS because if you have TS, you are automatically assumed to be a pedophile. Plus, the "impulse control thing. they assume it means shoplifting and things like that. Hi. Thanks a lot for doing this. I have TS. It's very difficult for me to live life. I was diagnosed at 7 and I am almost 50 now, I have some things that I use to not tic when I need to be still. I play the violin, I shoot targets at the range, and I'm a very outdoorsy guy. When I'm at work, I rep chicken and steak with a fillet knife. when I do that I don't twitch at all. When I play the violin, I don't twitch. I don't twitch when I do calligraphy. I have been a firefighter and EMT. I can start an IV in the back of a bumpy ambulance without twitching. I have flown planes and don't twitch at all while I fly. When I have to concentrate on something, I don't twitch at all. After I'm done. I have a Twitch Fest. I cook at a taco place. When I cook, I do twitch, but it's not something that makes me mess up. I cook very well. When I use a knife, I have absolute complete control over it. I understand what you are doing here and I thank you for it.
